How to upgrade RAM or add VRAM

Bought a refurbished MacBook Pro with
OS X 10.8.4
2.4 GHz Intel Core i7
4GB 1333 MHz DDR3
and interested in purchasing ProPresenter, which recommends using:
Processor: 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor or better
OS: MacOS X 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard) or later
RAM: 2 GB RAM (4 GB recommended)
Graphics Card: Dual display with screen spanning capability (a dedicated graphics card with 512MB VRAM is recommended)
Since my hubby and I just made "the switch," (he got a new iMac 21.5" with superdrive and I got the refurb MacBook Pro), I want to make sure we will be good with the software purchase, or if we need to purchase additional hardware.
LOVE the new Macs!!

1 - can't answer your hardware question unless you provide information about the exact MBP model and/or what graphics processor (GPU) it has.  To identify the exact model, open Apple > About This Mac > System Information > Hardware and look for "Model identifier"
2 - You can probably upgrade RAM but again it depends on the exact model MBP you have
3 - There is no way to add VRAM in a MacBook Pro
Overall, given the specs you cited for ProPresenter, I would expect it to run fine on an i7 MacBookPro.

how to upgrade RAM in iMac 2013 models. I know one can ask for RMm upgrade while buying iMAC from online store. Is it advisable to upgrade the RAM by self or from some professional?

Even if you do get the 27",  RAM installation is a PTA to install.  Prior to setting up your computer on your desk, you must lay it it face down on a soft area (couch).  Then you have to maneuver your hand & fingers either around or under the pedal to pop open the RAM door.  When putting the RAM into the slots you need to use all of your God given muscles to get them in there.  Otherwise, while you are seating one RAM, the one next to it will pop right on out.
When you hear the "snap," the RAM is seated properly and it's neighbor(s) will not pop out.

  • How to upgrade RAM on the HP Mini 110-313?

It says the HP Mini 110's are user-upgradable RAM to 2gig.
    How would I do this?

There should be a little door on the bottom of the machine where the memory chip is. Just order the memory and pop the old one out and put the new one in.

  • How to upgrade RAM on HP Pavilion dv6000 ?

    Hello!
I am using a HP Pavilion dv6000 notebook, with a 32-bit Vista business, 2 processors of Genuine Intel with 1.73GHz each, and only 1GB of RAM.
I would like to upgrade the RAM to 4GB, but I don't know if that's possible, and/or how to do that. I hope you guys can help me.
    Thanks.

We need to know the exact model number from the tag on the bottom of the laptop. You can then just check by model number with Crucial at crucial.com to check max memory specs. Some of the dv6000s max at 2 gigs as you likely already know. 2 gigs is dirt cheap and would be a major improvement. With 32 bit Vista even if you install 4 gigs only 3 will be available for Windows to use. So 2 gigs is your best bet anyway. The difference between 1 gig and 2 is huge, the difference between 2 and 3 is negligible, in my opinion.

  • How to upgrade ram on mac mini 2009

    Hi
How do I upgrade the RAM on my Mac Mini Late 2009 Model

OWC has a YouTube video on how to do this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5KaHNLR6Aac

  • How to upgrade ram for iMAC 21.5" i5 mid 2011

I recently purchased a 2-4 8GB ram kit for my iMac. Unfortunately, I ordered the wrong kit, one for a mid 2012, rather than one for my mid-2011.
I'd like to get some advice before I buy another kit.
My mid-2011 iMAC came with 4GB (2x2). That is nearly full now (~3.8 GB). I had thought an 8GB update (a 2x4 kit) would cover my needs. Unfortunately, I ordered and received the kit intended for a mid 2012. Okay, chalk it up to excerience. Experience also tells me to ask for help--HELP!

It also answered my first question.
Now that I'm feeling a bit more confident, I'll ask one more:
Maybe instead of adding two  4G sticks, I'd like to considder replacing the existing 4G (2 2x2s) with four 4G sticks. Is there a limit to how much ram the rest of the computer can support?
Thanks again for the prior reply, And thanks to OWC for the clear and simple video!

  • Aspire E15 - how to upgrade RAM?

I can't seem to figure out how to get the case for this E15 open. There aren't any youtube videos yet, other than a bunch of First Look type videos. The support agent I chatted with said he doesn't have any information on how to open the case up.

I took the best picture I could quickly. The little clips are what I've higlighted in red. This is the laptop upside down, and from the rear, with the battery removed.  That link one of you guys posted above is basically right but seems to be without much useful detail. My laptops have DVD drives. There are little clips inside the case on the sides that you have to release carefully to open the case. Holding the laptop face up (as if you were going to power it on and use it), a very small screwdriver inserted separately on the right and left, almost parralel to the desk but kind of from the top, then slowly, gently levering the screwdriver up should release them. It is a really strange design for a laptop that is listed as being RAM upgradeable, that's for daggum sure. When I did this the first time, I had the screen all the way open to be out of the way, in spite of how I've taken this picture.

I have an iMac 5,1 with an Intel Core 2 Duo. I'd like to Lion, in order to use iCloud, but the specs indicate I don't have enough memory. How much memory can I add? And will this upgrade allow me to install Lion?

I believe your model iMac can address 3 GB RAM; the minimum for Lion is 2 GB - however, that is an absolute minimum for very light use. You would be much happier with a minimum of 4 GB.

(You can install 4 GB, but it will only be able to address about 3.1 - 3.2 GB)

  • How To Upgrade My VRam On A MBP

    Hy There
I am using a MacBook Pro and I was wondering if it would be possible for me to upgrade my mac's VRam from 256mb to 512mb of VRam. I am currently running on 8gb of RAM (Just saying if RAM is needed for upgrading my mac's VRam).
    PLZ HELP

This model has 2 gpu's - an embedded Intel Graphics gpu plus the dedicated nVidia 9400m.   While you cannot upgrade the 9400m VRAM, you can increase overall RAM in your MacBookPro.  Since the embedded Intel Graphics gpu utilizes shared RAM you may see some improved graphics performance by upgrading system RAM.   I noticed a substantial improvement when I upgraded from 4GB to 8GB RAM.
I have the same model MacBookPro, and I must say that after monitoring performance over the years, I have not found any situation where the 9400m improved graphics performance over the embedded Intel gpu.  But the 9400m does make the MBP run hotter and decreases battery run time.  Needless to say, after time i decided there was no benefit to running the 9400m.  (And I do use Photoshop, Aperture and Final Cut.)

I have a Mac Mini 2014 and you can't upgrade RAM in it. Is there a way to make my RAM faster?

    iMovie_Maker wrote:
Do you think 4 GB is enough
    Enough for what?
The engine in my car puts out 200 HP. That's more than enough given the power to weight ratio of the vehicle and considering the type of driving I do with it commuting to work and the occasional road trip. If fails miserably when attempting to drag race the guy down the street with the Dodge Viper putting out somewhere around 660 HP.

I would like to upgrade the operating system on my 2009 iMac from OS X Version 10.5.8 to 10.9.5. Is it something I can do on my own since AppleCare expired and I am not able to go to an Apple retail store to speak to a Genius? Where can I get the V. 10.9.5 for free? Thanks.

I see. In this case, I will go to the capital city to buy the 10.6 DVD.

  • Want to upgrade RAM on HP Pavilion dv6000

    Computer currently has 2GB RAM.
    Runs Vista 32-bit
    Looking upgrading RAM.
    Had a couple of questions:
Is it a matter of adding or replacing?
    Is there a max?
Is it a farily easy DYI porject?
    Thanks,
    Sid

    Hi:
I have attached the link to your service manual. Page 1-2 states you are already at the max with 2 GB.
    http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01035677.pdf
If you know someone who may have a 2 GB PC2 5300 chip, you can remove one of your 1 GB chips and see if it works, and reports 3 GB. If it reports 3 GB, then it would report 4 more than likely.
The chipset supports up to 4 GB of memory, but the BIOS may not allow it, and there are no BIOS release notes that add support for 4 GB of memory, so it would have to be an experiment on your part.
Installing memory is relatively easy. read Chapter 5 of the service manual for how to do it. Specifically chapter 5, starting on Page 5-12. Remember to remove the battery and A/C power before taking anything apart.
