The Sound sounds aweful!!! which speakers could I buy myself and replace in my Toshiba Tecra S11 ?

To be honest Im really surprised with your question. Fact is that Tecra notebooks are designed for business purposes and designed for usage in offices, meeting rooms and by customer visiting so the sound is not so important in the whole package. This is not multimedia notebook so you will probably not find any Tecra with high quality speakers inside.
Ok I can understand you and maybe it is not bad idea to have perfec sound on this notebook model but I think this is the wrong place for your question. What you need is professional advice.
I recommend you to contact nearest authorized service provider and ask for help. They have maintenance manuals and know which speakers are inside and which speakers can be built in as replacement. Maybe some high quality speakers from harman/kardon can be used for upgrade but which one is not easy to say.
If you will do upgrade successfully please let us know and share every useful info with us.

How to downgrade BIOS on Tecra S11 - annoying CPU

I have a BIOS which is "solve" the High pitched noise problem about the i5 CPU.
But I have the latest BIOS and since then I cannot downgrade to the older BIOS that "solves" the problem.

They did not replaced the faulty CPU, they replaced the motherboard!!! for no reason. OMG!
Be very careful when you buy Toshiba laptop in Hungary, and its not the Toshiba's fault but the authorized service partners!!

I assume youve got a Tecra S11 PTSE3E
The BIOS for Tecra S11 is compatible with Tecra M11 and Tecra A11
On the Toshiba USA driver page you can find all BIOS versions
The BIOS for Tecra A11-S3541 PTSE3U series should be compatible with Tecra S11 PTSE3E series.

Choose Tecra A11-S3541 and download the BIOS version you want to install.
Unzip the package and check the readme.txt
There you can find info how to flash the BIOS using tradition BIOS version.
I think the win-based BIOS version would not function because youve got already the newest BIOS version installed.
But in my opinion you should not downgrade the BIOS because it looks like many fixes has been added to the new version

Tecra S11 - 2 unidentified device and the sound card

after xp installation my Tecra S11 didn't recognize the sound driver.
I have tried both drivers nvidia and realtech but both didnt work.
How can I solve this out ?
Also I got 2 unknown device in the device manager.
They named PCI Device Bus 0 Device 27 and Bus 0 Device 1
What are they?

You should check the VEN_ID and DEV_ID of both unknown devices.

This would help you identify the device / manufacturer of this device and you should be able to find the driver.

Tecra S11 mini Dsiplayport - sound output

I have read the user manual and I did not see anything about mini Displayport sound output.
Is Tecra S11 supports sound output via mini displayport?
Are there any mini displayport to HDMI cable which supports sound to send video and AUDIO to my LCD TV?

Hey thank you for this info. In the past this port was used for Video signal only.
After your info about working sound Ive found info that audio support was added in 2009.
This added feature allows now connecting notebooks to modern HD TVs using mini display ports to HDMI cable. It is really nice that there is full video and audio functionality.
It is really interesting that just several Toshiba notebooks are offered with this port.

I've installed nVidia and realtek sound driver also. I've got BSOD when I plug in 3.5mm jack headphone. When I want to listen music with my Bluetooth stereo headset I also got BSOD.
I reinstalled nvidia and realtek sound drivers. My Tecra S11 is very slow since I installed latest nvidia video driver from nvidia website.
Windows 7 very very slow since then. Firefox start up time sometimes 20-30sec

The sound card of your notebook is a Realtek one so you have to reinstall the Realtek sound driver that you can download on official Toshiba website.
But as MisterX wrote you should also reinstall the Bluetooth driver because the tosrfsnd.sys file belongs to BT driver so its worth a try ;)

Tecra S11 - Low sound level

I have recently purchased an S11 and as a previous owner of the Tecra line I was quite disappointed in the Audio level. I realize that the S11 is a Business machine and not a multimedia machine, but I have to sit very close and make sure there is no noise in the room to hear the on board speakers.
Is there a way to overcome this? Even 50% more audio would be a tremendous improvement.

Im not a Tecra S11 owner but I cant imagine that the sound level is so low as you described.
What program you use for listening music?
What kind of files you have more music?
What operating system you have?
I can recommend the multimedia player VLC media player. Thats a freeware tool which is really great and play the most audio and vide files.
Furthermore make also sure that you have highest sound level and try updating the sound driver.

Tecra S11 - High Speed Fan

Hi guys,
I need some help on a issue that really puzzle's me.
After I tried to make a bios update to the ultimate (February 2012) version, within windows 7, I've obtained an error message stating that I had no permission to make the update. Since then, the fan starts to rotate in high speed, as soon as I start the computer, just after the logo display.
Since then I've upgraded the bios using the Dos procedure, but the proble persists. It performs like a fully fledge high capacity server regarding the noise fan.
How can I troubleshoot this and solve it?

Thank you for your answer but that is not the problem.
Than Fan rotation starts at Post level, long before the Os kernel starts to execute.
Another starnge thing is that when I put the pc on sleep mode, when it awakes the fan is stoped. If I restart the Pc the symptom restarts.
I tried to update the bios to ver 3.30 using BIOS330_EC200.exe
It could be a EC/KBD problem. When executing from Win7 it states:
BIOS Version : Current Ver.3.30 --> Updated Ver.3.30
EC Version : Current Ver.1.90 --> Updated Ver.2.00
There is need to update EC.

Really there's a problem with the update. Then only way I could do the bios update was preparing a Dos usb device and boot executing Chgbiosf BIO0076T.com and it worked.
when I tried to update the Ec using Chgbiosf EC72V200.BIN it says that the file does not exist.
So, this is the status of the problem. I don't know if anyone can help, but I fear that th Tecra S11 will blow up anytime soon if this continues.

Does anyone know how to upgrade from 4.1 to 4.3 ios?

After being tricked by the fast talking smoothy helper at Apple store in London to buy a micky mouse ipodtouch (fourth generation) two years ago I am stuck at ios 4.1 and find that all the useful applications need 4.3 or more. So I went to the trouble of letting the macbook stay open all night to load yet another micky mouse version of itunes so that I can upload the more recent version of ios and now (since I don't want to continually have a lot of rubbish on the ipod I disabled the automatic sync "feature") I can only go round in circles whereby the only real possibility left is to turn on the autosync feature. I have had messages like "your ipod will be completely erased if you proceed" and "do you wish to fiddle another few days with this nasty system, then click on continue" and so on.
Does anyone know how to upgrade from 4.1 to 4.3 ios?
That would be great (maybe) because otherwise I will toss this children's waste product on the floor and set up my HD camera to show how easy it is to smash the brightly lit screen into pieces and relieve myself of trash which Apple sell to unsuspecting gullible humans who believe that they are not being tricked by such a nice company who produce shiny colourful gadgets which only work for a month or two before becoming 100% obsolete.
Great to hear from those who have wasted many months of their lives and discovered how to trick the system into doing a simple update operation!

1. There is nothing "mobile" under Application Support. For whatever reason.
2. Devious - that Apple has set up iPod to not show in Finder - a red herring and sign that corruption is visible.

and so we are back to where we always land - the user is left in the Apple designed sabotage situation which annoyed me so much initially.

Recheck: Under Application Support "mobilesync" folder has appeared (MobileMeSyncClient has also appeared [while again trying to update iPod] with zero size) - Good news, a Backup file is there, but it is only 3GB while my iPod has 32GB and is close to full (800MB free space).

So it looks like I may have lost all the important pictures documenting various items all around Europe for the last two years - luckily I moved a year ago from the iPod toy camera to a Panasonic real camera with SD card which can be read on any computer. Hence important items lost may only be older than one year rather than the most recent items.
Glad I have changed to Panasonic since they don't try to screw you when you don't use their system.
I will now check the "more information" rather than just click on "OK" since I am of the 3% who "don't accept cr*p".
For full information I quote that the iPod now shows a screen with a USB ikon, an upward arrow and an iTunes ikon (all micky mouse language which reduces transparant, clear and technical discussion and thus covers the trail of "where things went wrong").
The iPod is still attached to the computer but the above MMTALK may mean that the iPod should be attached via USB to the mac. I record much of this activity on Video to be able to later prove EXACTLY what occurred, rather than having to rely on screenshots and opinions. But since I have not removed the USB and keep returning to this message I am able to write for a few seconds (now 30 seconds or more) and the message remains on the screen but not blocking this conversation. It appears to be random but in fact as you can later see from the video, it is not reappearing each periodic number of seconds but as I reach a new comment.
I will try to close iTunes so that this can be stopped (I clicked on OK and it appeared another few times, each time I clicked on ok and now it has left me in peace to write here although iTunes is still not yet closed).
Difficult to log down all the strange behaviour but I think you can get the gist of what is going on.

Should I remove the iPod and stop iTunes? I have a nasty feeling turning to indifference since I have video footage which will verify all the above in a court of law if later required. The truth must always win over any devious attempts at forcing people to do things they don't want to ;-)

How to upgrade xserve to lion

I have an Xserve running Server 10.6.8
In line with company requirements, i have been tasked to upgrade this to Lion Server.
I went into app store on the server and went to purchase the server but it told me that i needed to purchase the lion client and upped the price. I went with it and downloaded.
Now im trying to run the os x lion server download but it fails with the error
You can't use this version of the application server with this version of OS X. You have mac os x 10.6.8. the application requires 10.7
This has left me a bit confused so a nudge in the right direction is much appreciated. If i have downloaded the upgrade to Lion Server then it stands to reason that i would be on the latest version of server release to be able to perform the upgrade yes? Which means that i have to be on 10.6.8 to get to 10.7
So the error is stating the obvious to me, but not really helping me in as much. I have started to look all over and am still not getting a confident answer.
Are there any clear instructions out there as to how to upgrade a server from 10.6.8 to 10.7. Im kinfd of reading out there that the client has to be installed first then the server. Is this right? I have the client downloaded, but not wanting to install a client OS when it is a server OS that im trying to get upgraded.

First, take a backup of your server. Then take a second one.
Then make sure you really need/want to upgrade your server to Lion - a lot of things have changed in Lion Server and you need to make sure it still fits your needs. While most of the underlying server applications are still there, the GUI admin tools have been stripped bare, so if you're used to using Server Admin to manage your server you might be disappointed.
Once you get past that your process is actually to upgrade from Snow Leopard Server to Lion, then to Lion Server. You can't miss that intermediate step, which is what it sounds like you're doing.
The addition of the Lion -> Lion Server upgrade restores the server-side functionality, but you'll need to do some extensive testing post-upgrade to make sure the appropriate services are running as you like/expect.
Also, if you're not familiar with managing your server via the command line you should start learning that process now. Many of the GUI options have been removed (especially from the Mail and Web services) and the only way to manage them now are through the command line. The time to learn the command line is now - before you absolutely need to tweak a broken configuration on a live server.

Tecra S11 - Display display rotation on hotkey

Hi all,
I'm using a Tecra S11 with Windows 7 64bit.
By pressing "crtl + alt + down-arrow" my display rotates 180 degrees.
Unfortunately this hotkey is one of my favorite hotkey in Eclipse, so I need to disable the display rotation hotkey.
after a long time searching I havent found a solution.
does anybody know how I may disable the display rotation hotkey ?

after spending some hours of searching in the internet for a solution for my problem I actually found a solution for it.

Thanks for your tip with the 'graphic card settings' but unfortunately this didnt solved the problem.
After using the "Process Explorer (Sysinternals)" an taking a detail look on what's happening while pushing the hotkey I found out that there is an special utility from toshiba which executes the monitor rotation.
This utility is named: "TOSHIBA 180 Degrees Rotation Utility". After removing it over the system control, the hotkey was not bound anymore and the system behaves as expected.
And if I need "monitor rotation" anytime again, Ill use the nVidia control panel.

Tecra S11 - After HDD replacement I can't update BIOS

My Hard Disk in Tecra S11 died, and I have purchased a new SSD.
Everything work OK, but I can not update BIOS any more. Update utility show an error:
Error: Preparing to update was failed.
You have not given permission to execute the update.
What to do? Please help.

Do you have Admin rights?
Sounds like the issue could be related to missing privileges which are needed to run a update.
You could enable the admin account following these steps:
Choose command prompt (the black box cmd)
In the box type net user administrator /active:yes
Then log out. Usually an additional user account should be visible Administrator.
Now log in using this account and try to execute the BIOS update.
Note: in many cases the VAP (value added package) is needed to run the update BIOS.
Be sure also, that package has been unzipped correctly before running the exe file.

You probably can't because it looks like your MacBook Pro is too old to carry audio over HDMI. You will need to run a separate audio cable from the audio out port on the MacBook Pro to the audio in port on the TV.

How to upgrade First Generation Touch to use Remote for Apple TV

Can anyone tell me how to upgrade the OS for a 1st Generation iPod Touch so that it can use the Remote App from I tunes to control the Apple TV device. It needs to be the 3.1.2 version, but Apple seems to offer only 3.1 I found the 3.1.2 version on a non-apple site and attempted to download and install it but it didn't work out. (Error 14). I was expecting to control the TV with my 1G Touch and am a little disappointed with Apple that the older Touch units seemingly cannot do this. Any help appreciated.

You can buy 3.1 thru iTunes then use it to upgrade to 3.1.3.
