How to upgrade to OS X Leopard from OS X 10.4

I want to upgrade my Mac from OS X 10.4 to OS X 10.5 Leopard, but I can't find a program to download to upgrade my Mac.
Where can I find it?

You posted in Intel iMac so I'll presume you have one.  You would probably be better off upgrading to Snow Leopard.  It will be cheaper and a lot easier finding the disc (buy it from Apple online).
Get more information about your computer. Go to the Apple in the upper left corner of any window, then "About This Mac", then "More Info..."  Copy and paste the information here, but omit the serial number and Hardware UUID (if present).

Connect your iPhone to the computer via the USB cable. Open iTunes, click on your iPhone's name under Devices. Normally it will search for updates and prompt you automatically. If it's not working, click on Check for Update.

  • How to revert back to Snow Leopard from Lion?

Foolishly I just jumped straight in, downloaded Lion and installed it, and well... I really don't like it.  It's not a patch on SL.
So I'm trying to work out the best way of reverting back to Snow Leopard.
    I have:
    My Snow Leopard install disc.
A SuperDuper, bootable backup from 48 hours pre-upgrade.
A Time Machine backup from 48 hours pre-upgrade.
I'm fairly sure that just putting the SL install disc in, isn't going to work.
I think I have a couple of options.
    1. Erase the hard drive completely, and then do a fresh SL install, then restore the last TM backup.
    2. Boot from the SuperDuper backup, then restore the last TM backup.
I'd prefer option 1, as this gives me a clean install (I hope).
Before I go ahead, can anyone:
    a) See any problems with carrying this out, or
    b) Suggest a better, safer method?
I'm a bit concerned that SL was an upgrade to an existing OS, rather than a complete OS in itself, so I'm very wary of what might happen if I wipe the drive then put the disc in, hoping it'll give me a nice new version of SL.  Might need to go and do a bit more reading up.
    Thanks.

    For ref.
Dragged and dropped copies of important files (Docs, Pictures, Downloads, Movies etc) to a spare drive.
Printed off any docs that I absolutely could not afford to lose.
    Shut down Mac.
Attached USB drive with SuperDuper backup, and powered up drive.
Powered up Mac, and immediately pressed the option key.
From the window that popped up, chose my USB drive as the boot disk and pressed return.
Mac powered up running Snow Leopard from USB drive.
Started Disk Utility, and erased the disk labelled 250.06 GB Fujitsu.... etc  In the 'name' field, entered 'Macintosh HD'
Started up SuperDuper! and copied my backup over Macintosh HD.
Incidentally, the first step it took was to erase Macintosh HD anyway, so I could probably have skipped the first erase.
Let SuperDuper! do it's thing for 90 mins.
Once it had completed, closed the machine down (it wouldn't let me eject the USB drive, as presumably it was still using that as the boot disc).
Detached and powered off USB drive.
Pressed Mac power button and crossed fingers...
And goodbye annoying Lion, hello again, good old Snow Leopard!
Didn't even need to restore the last Time Machine backup.
I may take another look at Lion again, further down the road, when hopefully Apple will have realised that OS X and iOS are two completely different animals, and that we don't all want our Macs behaving like our iPads.
For now though, I'm sticking with SL.

  • How do I revert back to Leopard from Snow Leopard?

I've been searching for days on a way to do revert back to Leopard from Snow Leopard (install Leopard over Snow Leopard).
I recently upgraded to SL and have had enough problems with applications that at this point I want to just revert to Leopard and wait a few months until I permanently upgrade.
I tried placing the Leopard install disk in and got as far as rebooting. Once it rebooted to begin installation it did this weird grey screen and force me to restart manually - it continued this in a loop until I removed the disk; which allowed me to boot back up in SL.
Is there a way to do this other than doing a full uninstall wiping all my data? If that is the only option, is there a easy way to transfer my data (Time Machine maybe or something else?)

I would transfer my data manually to a partition on an external firewire drive. Then, I would clone my SL installation to another partition of the drive. Next, I'd start up to my SL installation DVD and use Disk Utility to erase my internal. Afterward, I'd quit Disk Utility and quit the installer. Then, I use my Leopard install disk to reinstall Leopard. Since you are having app problems, I reinstall my apps using, among other things, the app disk that probably came with Leopard. Copy your data back, and you are good to go.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
From your post, I cannot quite tell the specific process you are attempting...so I will give you everything...
The simplest way is to, on a PC (you cannot do this on MAC):
    1) Make sure you have a current and complete backup of your BB...you can find complete instructions via the link in my auto-sig below.
    2) Uninstall, from your PC, any BB OS packages
    3) Make sure you have the BB Desktop Software already installed
    http://us.blackberry.com/software/desktop.html
    4) Download and install, to your PC, the BB OS package you desire:
    http://us.blackberry.com/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
It is sorted first by carrier -- so if all you want are the OS levels your carrier supports, your search will be quick. However, some carriers are much slower than others to release updates. To truly seek out the most up-to-date OS package for your BB, you must dig through and find all carriers that support your specific model BB, and then compare the OS levels that they support.
    5) Delete, on your PC, all copies of VENDOR.XML...there will be at least one, and perhaps 2, and they will be located in or similarly to (it changes based on your Windows version) these folders:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader
    C:\Users\(your Windows UserName)\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML
    6) Disconnect your PC from the internet and turn off all radios on your BB (consider also removing the SIM...not likely necessary, but just in case)
76a) For changing your installed BB OS level (upgrade or downgrade), you can launch the Desktop Software and connect your BB...the software should offer you the OS package you installed to your PC.
7b) Or, for reloading your currently installed BB OS level as well as for changing it, bypass the Desktop Software and use LOADER.EXE directly, by proceeding to step 2 in this process:
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-Device-Software/How-To-Reload-Your-Operating-Syste...
Note that while written for "reload" and the Storm, it can be used to upgrade, downgrade, or reload any BB device model -- it all depends on the OS package you download and install to your PC.
If, during the processes of 7a or 7b, your BB presents a "507" error, simply unplug the USB cord from the BB and re-insert it...don't do anything else...this should allow the install to continue.
Good luck and let us know!

  • How do I revert to Snow Leopard from Mountain Lion? I do not have the setup disk that came with my MacBook but I do have the Snow Leopard software.

I upgraded to Mountain Lion and very much regret this move.  I cannot use Parallels or Bootcamp for Windows XP which I need for some of my 'older' accessories.  How do I revert from Mountain Lion back to Snow Leopard?  I have the Snow Leopard software but I do not have the original setup software disk that came with the MacBook (leant to a friend and never seen again).

If you do revert to Snow Leopard, be aware of this "feature" I used with my 2009 MacBook Pro:
When it had the original OS (Leopard, I believe) I set up Bootcamp with Windows XP.  I also installed Parallels and use the Bootcamp partition for Windows XP within Parallels.
I then upgraded to Snow Leopard and all was fine.
I then upgraded to Lion and still my Bootcamp partition works for Windows XP and also for Parallels.
I have not upgraded to Mountain Lion so I cannot speak to whether or not the Bootcamp paritition of Windows XP will continue to work.  If you do and it works, LET US KNOW!

  • Upgrade to osx snow leopard from 10.4.11

I have heard that upgrading from 10.4.11 to snow leopard can be done, without the purchasing the useless 'box set', but my question is if i upgrade my os will i lose or keep all my programs, applications, documents and- most important- my music ??? also could someone please confirm that all i need to upgrade is the £25 osx snow leopard disk from apple ... cheers now ryan.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions, Ryan.
Yes, you are correct about the the £25 upgrade DVD.
No, you should not lose anything. But a good backup is always recommended, I prefer SuperDuper or CarbonCopy Cloner.
EDIT: If you want to check compatibility of your apps...

  • How to restore iTunes library in Leopard from a specific backup date?

I want to restore my iTunes Library from a specific backup date. I am using OS X Leopard and can't go back to the specific date in TimeMachine. What I do?

The backups were made, bro. It happens that I did the backups with Snow Leopard, but I had to reformat my iMac and restore it to its factory settings. I am currently using Leopard and I am waiting for Apple to deliver me a copy of Snow Leopard because I have lost my copy and can't upgrade. But all the backups were made, I used to check everyday to see if all files were there. I can see all the backup dates on Time Machine but when I click on them they don't display.

  • How to install OS X Snow Leopard from OS X 10.4.11

So I have a Mac OS X 10.4.11, and I am trying to install Snow Leopard on it. My computer meets all the system requirements, but the disk always pops out for no reason. I have tried cleaning the disk drive, and everything else possible. Someone please tell me how to install from there.

Download from Mac App store and follow instructions.

  • How do I revert to Snow Leopard from 10.7.4?

I have a Time Machine back-up of all my files on an external HD but, unfortunately, done AFTER installing 10.7.4 (which is a REAL BUMMER!).
If I reformat my MacBook Pro and do a clean install of 10.6.8, will it allow me to recuperate all my mail and docs backed-up in 10.7.4?
I mean, at a certain point, will it ask if I want to get my stuff from some other disk of from a Time Machine back-up?

That of course did not answer eve the begnnning of my question, since Mail in all the windoz-like "lions" is NOT compatible with Snow Leopard Mail, and a MAJOR workaround is needed.
Anyway, I solved ALL of my problems and UPGRADED TO SNOW LEOPARD, a much faster mac-like system that doesn't eat your RAM, you battery and is much less intrusive than BOTH lions, which are windoz-like, slow, eat memory and battery and...it's your falut, just like in PC H*E*L*L*...

  • How to upgrade/downgrade an existing Arch from external media?

    Hi there!
After last upgrade of kernel and video drivers i got a blank screen with no tty console.
I read couple of threads in » Pacman & Package Upgrade Issues
I found out that the solution would be "to boot from external media, chroot and downgrade kernel to 3.9.9"
    Questions:
    1.How would i do that?
2.Should i downgrade or upgrade (if with  the new kernel the issue is fixed)?
    Thank you!

    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Chroot
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Downgrade
If the new kernel is fixed, that's the best answer by far. If it's not, downgrade until it is.

Late 2008 MacBook. I don't need to back up, just to go back from Yosemite to Snow Leopard without a working optical drive.
    Thank you.

If you have a Time Machine backup from Snow Leopard, then use it to restore from. Other than that, you will need to get an optical drive and run your install disks that came with your computer. Of course, you will need your Snow Leopard updater if you still have it since you can't get it from the App Store.
I may be wrong about it not being available. I found a like from apple where you can still purchase it. It may still work.
