How to upgrade to Ps CS5 on new iMac

Hello-
I'm anticipating my new iMac i7 anyday. I want to upgrade to Ps CS5 to the new system, not my current old iMac which I have CS2 on. Since this is an upgrade will that be possible? Can I buy CS5 & install directly to the new iMac or do I have to install it to the old iMac where it will overwrite CS2?  I don't know how I will move it to the new system if I have to load it to the old.
Thanks-
Rhobes

All Adobe upgrades are full installers.  All you need is to have the serial number from the previous versions handy when the installer prompts you for it as well as the new serial number.

  • How much faster or better is the new iMac... really?

    Hello all,
I have a 20" 2.33Ghz C2D iMac w/256Meg video RAM, and 3Gig of RAM. I understand that many factors come in to play when you compare the over all speed of a computer. How much faster, over all, is the new iMacs over the system I have? Has anyone tested the two next to each-other yet? I am sure the new one is faster in some ways, but is it really lots faster in over all performance, or just a little?

    Hi Patrice,
Within Apple’s slim new 21.5- and 27-inch iMacs are NVIDIA GeForce GPUs, based on our new Kepler-class architecture, which helps make them up to 60 percent faster than last year’s models. This follows news in June that Apple’s 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display uses Kepler GeForce GPUs.
The new 27-inch iMac offers the GeForce GTX 660M as its base GPU, with even faster GeForce GTX 675MX or GeForce GTX 680MX GPUs available. The 21.5-inch model comes with the GeForce GT 640M GPU, with an available upgrade to the GeForce GT 650M GPU.

So, any Apps that use the GPU to assist GPU should be much faster.
Though I don't see it listed here, it may be too new, I suspect it may be supported...

Hmmm? A quick google search for external optical readers turns up many in the $20-$40 (USD) range. Didn't convert to £ or include any VAT charges, but you should be able to get something significantly cheaper than £70. That's your simplest solution.

  • How much RAM should I install for new iMAC ?

    Hi,
How much RAM should I install for new iMAC* running Logic Studio? It comes with 4 GB - is that enough? (can you run in 64 bit mode..)
    *(The 21.5" 3.06GHz Intel Core 2 Duo)
Also, I was planning to get the stock 1 TB Hard Drive & save projects to an external drive.
    Does that sound reasonable?
    Any other recommendations?
    Thanks,
    Wm Heart

Unless you plan on running huge projects with enormous sampled instruments, 4 GB will do (very) fine. And your disk plan is sound. Choose an external Firewire drive, rather than USB. FW is easier on the CPU and can handle more tracks than USB.
What you should get, instead of more memory, is a (24 bit) external audio interface, if you want to do serious recording and playback.
What type of audio interface you'ld need, depends on what you want to do with it and of course your budget. From decent to brilliant costs from roughly 100 to several 1,000's of europounddollars. Avoid the 16 bit ones, they're worse than the inbuilt audio chip of your iMac. You can recognize 16 bit Audio Interfaces (in webshops) by their prize (often under 100€£$) and the lack of mention of their bitrate.

How to know if your mac is using the latest Haswell architecture processor or not? and how to know the difference between the new imac and the 2012/13 imac?

Sorry to reopen an old post, but I've just purchased a 2nd hand late-2013 iMac (or so thats what the seller said).
I'm always sceptical though, and just wanted to know if there is a way to check if my iMac is indeed the late-2013 model that included Haswell?
I've attached screenshots of the About This Mac section hoping it may help shed some light.
Thank you in advance for your help!
PS - I can't compare to the iMac specs link you posted above because its now showing the late-2014 models.

  • Upgraded hardware, and went from XP to Win7 - how do I transfer/install CS5 onto new SSD hard drive?

I recently upgraded all my computer internals; new mobo, Samsung SSD (solid state drive), CPU and ram. Also went from XP Pro to Win 7 Pro, with Win 7 Pro now residing on the new solid state drive. I still have the old 1TB Serial ATA hard drive connected as a storage device, and this is where CS5 resides. But of course, my CS5 applications are now unusable.
Can someone please give me some guidance as to how to transfer the CS5 installation from the old HD (XP Pro) to the new SSD (Win 7 Pro)? I started doing some research, and read about first "deactivating" CS5, but I cannot open any of my CS5 applications to "deactivate". So I am stumped. I am reticent to attempt a new install from my CS5 disks until I learn the proper process..........
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • How do I load CS5 onto new iMac?

I purchased a new iMac, which doesn't have a spot to insert my CS5 disc. How will I be able to install my CS5 onto my new computer?

I get this message: "install" can't be opened because it is from an unidentified developer.

  • How do I get my CS5 on my iMac 1 onto my newer iMac 2?

I got Creative Suite 5 in 2010, downloaded it from Adobe.com onto my Late 2006 iMac (OS X 10.7.5 Lion). I am buying a newer (it's a year and half old now)  iMac (OS X 10.7.5 Lion) from a friend. I have my serial number for CS5. How can I get my CS 5 Applications also onto my new iMac?
    1) Is there a place on Adobe.com where I can download CS5 after inserting my number?
    2) Is there some other way?
I am not technically experienced, so any simple-step guide is welcome.
    Thanks!

Same here for Creative Suites, amazingly enough. I just checked my own orders.
I see download links and serial numbers for point products but no serial numbers nor download links for Creative Suites from CS4 onwards.
In the line entries for Creative Suites, I only see the unhelpful advice to "Please find your serial number inside your product's packaging". Most people would use My Orders because they cannot find the serial number in the packaging!
In my experience, Adobe's record-keeping has an inconsistent and less than helpful approach for managing details of my past orders. It's a crapshoot at times so I've stopped relying on them for my downoads and serial numbers.
I have always found the prodesigntools link to work reliably for downloads so you should be OK with that, provided you have got your serial number. But I do keep my own multiple backups of everything I purchase online.

  • How to transfer files from an iMac without upgraded Migration Assistant to a new iMac that doesn't have a firewire port?

    Hello.
I just purchased a new iMac. He's awesome. However, he didn't come with a Firewire port. (Bummer, because I have one from the last time (2007) I had to transfer stuff from my iBook...)
When I turned him on, he wanted to use Migration Assistant to transfer files from the older iMac; she doesn't have the most updated Migration Assistant, though. (She works just fine, but she only has Snow Leopard.)
Okay, so what I'm wondering is if I just have to use a huge external hardrive to move everything? If I do that, will my programs (Microsoft Office) move? I fear they won't move/transfer that way. Ugh.
    PLEASE HELP.
    Ideas? Advice?
    Thank you in advance!

Firewire 800 (what the new iMac has) is 9 pin. FireWire 400 is 6 pin (what your old iMac has).  Hopefully you didn't damage your new iMac by trying to insert a FW400 cable into its FW800 connector. The numbers are important in the case of the ports. They don't interchange!!! Get the proper cable or risk damaging your new iMac.

  • Attempts at installing Lightroom and Cs5 on new iMac

I just purchased and received a new iMac.  I have used one for a few years and had purchased Lightroom 3 and Cs5 for it.  Now that I have a new computer, I would like to use both programs with it.  But when I insert the cd's to install, nothing happens.  Usually, an installation window appears to step me through the process.  I tried a Mac software (iWork) that I had used with my other computer and did not have any problems so it's not the computer.  I am hoping that I can use these two programs with the new computer, especially since I have several hundred dollars invested in both.  Can anyone tell me how to solve this issue?  Thanks!

Does your DVD for the installation of the Adobe software works on the Different computer ?

  • Indesign CS4 and Indesign CS5 on new imac TOGETHER!

    Hi,
I am purchasing a brand new imac (27in., quad core i5) which comes with the Apple Snow Leopard OS.
I am also purchasing the CS5 master collection.
A company that I freelance for is still using CS4 and wants me to create print layouts for them with indesign CS4 (they don't trust the .inx route).
Will I be able to run the entire CS5 master collection AND just indesign CS4 on my new imac?
Are there any issues or difficulties that I should be aware of?
    Thanks!!!

Yes, you will be able to, but make sure you install CS4 first, get that going how you want it, (i.e. at least make sure it's working!) and then install CS5.  If you ever have to uninstall and reinstall CS4 you're in for a bit of fun unfortunately, the only clean way to do it would be to uninstall the whole Master collection first... Having said that heaps of people do exactly what you're describing with no problems.
On thing to be aware of is that once you have installed CS5 all your CS4 Indesign files will automatically open in CS5 not CS4.  You will not be warned about this until you have worked on it (Murphys law states that this will be for a long time) and go to save, upon which it will ask you for a new save location. The icons are slightly different so you could rely on that to alert you, and just use File > Open from CS4 or drag the files into CS4, or you could look at Soxy, which is a far more elegant solution, but IMHO is still not perfect, although apparently it's better on a Mac than on Windows.

  • Is it a mistake for not upgrading the hard disk of new iMac to 1TB Fushion Drive

I have just bought a new iMac 27" in Fortress in HK for Video editing by Final Cut Pro X and Motion 5, may be After Effect later. I am thinking if I have made a mistake for not upgrading the driver to Fushion Drive. The followings are my spec:
    Intel qual core-i7 3.4 GHz
    16 GB RAM
    1TB SATA
    GTX 680 MX
Because my budget was within HKD 20,000, so I am considering if my decision for the upgrades were correct for video editing. To be honest, I really want to try Fushion Drive

I don't think it is a mistake. The Fuse Drive is a combination of both a Real SSD and a spinning mechanical hard drive. With that system if either drive fails you lose all your data.
There have been many articles on how to Make a Fuse drive, when there is both an SSD and Spinner installed in the system, and how to Break one up so you can use both drive independently, SSD and spinning drive as 2 separate drives.
The reason Apple came up with this system is for people that have no concept of how to use 2 separate disks in their systems. It allows them to still have the speed of a SSD along with the storage capacity of the large spinning hard drive without knowing how and where to store the data they have or may accumulate over the life of the system.
Also the way Apple want the user, almost Forces users, to store there files is in the User area that is located on the Boot drive. That will fill up a SSD very fast (depending on how much data the user or users have).
It does have overhead that will slow the system down compared to a system with independently accessed SSD and spinners.
Not sure what model iMac you bought as I didn't think the newest 27 inchers were out yet. But you should be able to add your own SSD so you can use it for the OS and program files and store your data on the mechanical, spinning, hard drive. And you can do that for much less them what Apple charges for a SSD. You could also combine them into a Fuse drive if you like. Just do a Google search for "Make Fuse Drive".

  • Upgrade mac pro or buy new imac

Really need some help here.  My base machine is a quad-core Nehalem Mac Pro running at 3.33 with 8Gb of RAM and using a ATI Radeon HD 5870 video card.  My choices are:
Buy a new iMac 3.4 Ghz quad core i7, 16 Gb RAM, nVidia GTX 680MX, 750 Gb SSD drive (about $3500)
    OR
Buy 16 Gb RAM, nVidia GTX 680 (about 900 dollars)
Is there much of a performance differece between the 2 to justify the difference in cost?

The Mac Pro you own has way more headroom to upgrade for short money.
The 2009 and later can upgrade RAM DIMM modules by the each -- don't buy new memory modules for these Macs smaller than 8GB per module (cheaper than two 4GB). These are as cheap as US$70 + shipping from Mac-Centric vendors such as Data Memory Systems:
