  • How to access Oracle Enterpise Manager from outside my VM

    Hi,
I've Oracle VM VirtualBox version 4.1.2 installed on the host Windows XP and pre-built Database App Development VM (Updated Nov. 2011) worked on it.
Everything is OK, I have NAT network and can run Enterprise manager inside my VM on URL https://127.0.0.1:1158/em
    Pleas, describe shortly:
1.How I can access enterpise manager from outside VM ?
2.What I have to write (HOST, PORT etc) in my tnsnames.ora file on the host system for the VM Oracle server to connect it from the host system ?
    Sincerely,
    Alex

    Hi Alex,
the host and port depends on your network setup of your VM.
Do an ifconfig -a and see what IP adress your guest has.
With this IP address you should be able to access EM from outside your VM (but on the VM host, not from outside the network) with the same port.

    What's a "doggle?"
It's a box like device on the end of a short USB or Ethernet cable usually designed for copy protection purposes for software.
The original Quark X Press came with one, we used to mess with co-workers by pulling it out slightly so it didn't make contact.
Edit: Ah, looks like the terminology has changed
The term "dongle" was originally used to refer only to software-protection dongles; however, currently "dongle" is often used to refer to any small piece of hardware that plugs into a computer.
Followed by a picture of what appears to be a USB looking thumb type drive, but it's likely not if it's got electronics inside to provide copy protection.

Lion of course doesn't come on a dongle, it comes on a USB thumb drive. But the method is to hold the option key down and select it to boot from and then run the installer.
OP should backup all data off the machine first before proceeding with their Lion's dongle. LOL

Application partitiion is what you will be upgrading from 3.1.(10 to 4.0(8).
MP - maintenance partition is supposed to be 2.1.2 or above which is the same requirement for 3.1.x so, you will be good there.

  • Help! Need advice on how to upgrade to Windows 7 from Windows 7 Evaluation Copy: Build 7100

I am on an HP Pavillion Media Center m8200m PC.  The computer came with Vista on it and did not come with any Vista operating system installation discs when I bought it.  I did make a set of two system recovery discs from this original Vista operating system,  About 3 months ago, I decided to put on an evaluation copy of Windows 7 (Build 7100).  In order to do this, I had to remove Vista completely from my computer and then install the the Windows 7 evaluation download from Microsoft.  It has worked fine since, but will expire shortly.  I now want to put on a permanent installation of Windows 7, but am unsure how to do this.  Can someone please explain the procedure to me.  I have read that I cannot upgrade to anything directly from the Windows 7 evaluation copy.  Do I need to recover the computer and install Vista from the recovery discs  (providing I can reinstall Vista from these recovery discs), then upgrade to a permanent version of Windows 7 (from a less expensive Windows 7 upgrade).  Or, will I have to buy a full version of Windows 7 and start from scratch?  Also, is there a way to retain all my data on this computer during this new installation of Windows 7, or will I lose averything including programs, data, etc. and have to reinstall it once I have the new permanent operating system on the computer?
I'm usually pretty good with this stuff, but can't seem to get a straight answer.  I want to do this as soon as possible, so would greatly appreciate a straight, clear explanation of what to do.  I would truly appreciate it.

It is possible to upgrade the evaluation version to the RTM version with some fiddling as shown here.  It would be better to do a clean install.

  • How to upgrade device version's from BES

    Hi Guys,
I was wondering if you could help, i've been searching the techincal support section and the forums and could someone point me in the right patch to upgrade blackberry handsets via BES v5.
I can find the software to upgrade via desktop manager but i want to deploy this through our BES 5.0.1
also I have BES 4.16 which i am migrating the users onto the new BES via the transporter tool, but i've found our IT Policy creates issues with device version 4.3 and needs to be reactivated when migration is complete.
So i would also like to upgrade the devices on the old BES before migrated them across.
So is there a way of upgrading a device version from BES 4.1.6 if so could you also provide instructions?
Is there any issues when upgrading device versions? would i need to resend the service book? it policy? re-activation?
thanks in advance, i really appricate this.

If you wish to upgrade from 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard) to 10.8.x (Mountain Lion), first make sure that your model meets the minimum hardware requirements (http://support.apple.com/kb/sp654) and then download ML by purchasing it from the Mac App Store.

  • How to upgrade 10.4.11 from a 10.5.6 DVD

I've been programming since 1961, but Apple's EZness and lack of documentation is driving me nuts. It's "like insert disc and follow the on-screen instructions." Moreover, most posts assume there is NO 10.5.6 on DVD and so one is using Software Update. Since I bought the 10.5.6 + iWork09 + iLife09 combo box, I've got a DVD.
    1) Backup 10.4.11 -- That's EZ.
    2) The first DVD to insert and run is the Tiger Install disc or the new 10.5.6 disc?
    3) Run Disk Utility to check permissions.
    4) What DVD goes in next?
    5) I want to do Archive and Install. Is the Archive folder put on your computer's disk or on a FireWire drive? How much space is needed?
    6) According to the Apple Docs, the "System" is archived. From a UNIX point of view, that is only OS X system components -- not anything else. According to an Apple Genie, "don't worry, it saves everything and after installing 10.5.6 it will automatically put everything back." Which would seem to require a huge amount of disk space -- which makes me doubt the claim.
All I want to know are the Application and Users folders preserved? What about all the System Library content that relates to applications?

The best way to upgrade from Tiger to Leopard is by Archive and Install. See,
How to Perform an Archive and Install
An Archive and Install will NOT erase your hard drive, but you must have sufficient free space for a second OS X installation which could be from 3-9 GBs depending upon the version of OS X and selected installation options. The free space requirement is over and above normal free space requirements which should be at least 6-10 GBs. Read all the linked references carefully before proceeding.
    1. Be sure to use Disk Utility first to repair the disk before performing the Archive and Install.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported, then quit DU and return to the installer.
    2. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
    3. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
    4. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
    5. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.

  • How to upgrade to Mountain Lion from older model?

My  computer is running slow.  The genius suggested upgrading to Mountain Lion.  I am on 10.5.8 so it doesn't seem to allow me to do that.  How can I upgrade? Thanks!

The Apple Support Communities are an international user to user technical support forum. As a man from Mexico, Spanish is my native tongue. I do not speak English very well, however, I do write in English with the aid of the Mac OS X spelling and grammar checks. I also live in a culture perhaps very very different from your own. When offering advice in the ASC, my comments are not meant to be anything more than helpful and certainly not to be taken as insults.
RAM needs to be physically upgraded by you or you can pay someone to do it. RAM is pretty cheap compared to the past, so upgrade to as much as you can afford. Mt Lion will thank you for it. I would go to OtherWorldComputing.com, they have great RAM and guarantee their RAM to work on your Mac.
    If the disc you buy for Snow Leopard does not have 10.6.8, here is the updates link;
Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.8 v1.1 update combo
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
Frankly, I find the Genius advice a bit incomplete as Mt Lion is a RAM hog compared to Leopard.
