How to upgrade version?

I have a Powerbook G4 version 10.2.8 right now. I have not connected the computer to the internet in over a year. I want to update the version to a current version of the system so I can install ILife 06. What do I do?
I have tried to download 10.3.8 from software updates but it says I need 10.3 in order to download 10.3.8. Is there something I am forced to buy in order to become current? I just want to update...not interested in buying panther or tiger or whatever. Is this my only option?

You cannot simply update freely from 10.2.x to 10.3.x. You will have to purchase either the Panther (10.3.x) or Tiger (10.4.x) retail installer package. Free updates are only available for sub-version updates (10.2.1 to 10.2.8, for example.) Major version updates (10.2, 10.3, 10.4, for example) must be purchased.

You can't update to iOS 6. You can only update to the current version, which is 7.0.4 as of this writing.

I am trying to apply support packages using SPAM. But whenever i am
trying to upload the Support Packages through frontend i am getting
following error:
"CAR error message: SAPCAR: can not change date
for /usr/sap/trans/EPS/in/CSR0120031469_0034275.ATT"
I down;loaded again the support package but still getting the same
error.
I tried to uncar the same in the application server but i still got the
error while doing SAPCAR -xvf.
I have got a solution to upgrade the version of SAPCAR. but i dont know how to do it?

You don't need downtime to change permissions...
You can run "/sapmnt/IRQ/exe/saproot.sh" script as ROOT user to set the permissions on Kernel Directory.
OR
Do as follow:
# chown -R irqadm:sapsys /sapmnt/IRQ/exe
# chmod -R 755 irqadm:sapsys /sapmnt/IRQ/exe
# chmod 4755 /sapmnt/IRQ/exe/saposcol
# chown root:sapsys /sapmnt/IRQ/exe/saposcol
After that don't forget to set the permissions of BRTools (brbackup, brrestore, brarchive, brspace etc.) according to below note.

If you are a developer, or have a similar personality, there is an aftermarket EFI-64 "work-alike" program you can load into memory instead of 64-bit firmware. It is too complicated for regular folks.
You must already have upgraded your Memory and your graphics card to use this solution, and your Mac will not operate quite normally. Any problems with it are unsupported.

You won't be able to update to 4.3. Depending on which version you have, you may be able to upgrade to 4.2.1. Check out the Apple articles below for info.

If your Mac is running Leopard (10.5.x) then in order to upgrade further, you need to call Apple and purchase an upgrade to Snow Leopard (10.6.x). I have not verified this myself, but I have been told that you can only purchase this by calling Apple, and it will cost about $20 USD.
Once you have Snow Leopard, you will need to verify if you really want to upgrade further. By going to any newer OS, you will lose the ability to run any older PowerPC based software, as the newer releases of Mac OS do not include ROSETTA, which is needed to continue to run those applications. Also, if your hardware has Leopard, it may not support any of the newer Mac OS releases, so you would want to verify that as well.
After you have installed Snow Leopard, and then updated it to the latest (10.6.8) you can use the Mac App Store to purchase newer OS releases. For right now, you can Buy Mountain Lion directly in the store. If your hardware can't support Mountain Lion, but you still want ot upgrade to Lion, you will need to place another call to Apple to purchase an upgrade code to Lion. With that upgrade code, you can redeem it in the App Store to download the Lion installer.
