all the icons in the left coloumn of iweb are red - is that important?
the publish icon in bottom left corner is now faded, so unpressable.
for directory path i can type in / or /web and test connection works
i am VERY new at this website making stuff so please use short and easy to understand word!!! like talking to a 5 year old!!!
thanks for your time and hopefully your help x

The icons in the left column will turn blue when you publish successfully using either the iWeb FTP or to a local folder.
Both publishing methods are described here...
http://www.iwebformusicians.com/iWeb/Publish-Website.html
If you are using the iWeb FTP, try using the publishing settings shown on the above page. Leave the Directory/Path blank.

  • Upload Iweb pages with FCKeditor

can i upload html , css and Js using editors like FCKeditor?
where should i embad the JS code ?

can i upload html , css and Js using editors like FCKeditor?
Never heard of that one. Most people upload iweb pages with a standard ftp client or a web editor which has an ftp app built in.

  • Figured out how to upload single pages w/o using .mac

I figured out how to upload or republish only the pages with revisions using a different ftp server than .mac
I hope I can explain this. I am using Fetch as my FTP client. I changed a few things on my welcome page and published the to my folder. Then I opened fetch, opened the main folder with all the pages in it. I then went down and highlighted Welcome files and Welcome.html. I then hit the put button and selected the same to items from the folder on my computer. This replaces the previous files and you can republish w/o having to publish your whole site. I hope this made sense. I am not computer savy. I really love the iweb program. I have a site with about 100 pics and 10 movies and all seems to be going well. I checked and it works on PC's as well.

    Hi theburlaon and welcome!
I initally tried using iMovie but the timeline could not hold the whole tape
Did you try to import the entire tape as one huge clip? Better to set it to, say, 5 minute clips.
I want a single DVD of each tape so later (when I have the time) I could reimport them and make home movies
Bad idea IMO. DVD is the final delivery format, not intended for editing. Converting back from mpeg2 (DVD format) to DV format (what iMovie likes) will result in a substantial quality loss.
Just hang on to the tapes until you are ready to do the job properly, via iMovie and iDVD.

  • HOW TO - Duplicate iWeb Page as a Template?

    January 19, 2006
    Hello:
    Do you know HOW TO
duplicate an iWeb Page I make
so I can use it again as a template?
    Thanks,
    JOHN

    John,
No easy task with iWeb's file structure. It appears the sites are all stored together. If you create a second site, you'll see that it's not a new document, just a new heading in the Site Organizer column. Site info is stored in a package called "Domain" in UserName/Library/Application Support/iWeb. This contains all media. The pages themselves are most likely in index.xml.gz. I'm assuming template info and content have been compiled in the xml docs in this zipped file. Sorry that I have no better news.

  • Uploading iWeb page to Tripod doesn't happen because there are more than 3 levels of subdirectories.

I've used both Tripod and Yahoo as web page holders for many years.  Pages I create in iWeb will FTP to Yahoo, but not to Tripod.  Once it gets to the "Scripts" folder, uploading stops at, "Navbar".  It tells me there are too many levels of subdirectories.  Is there a way to simplifiy the iWeb hierachy?  Thanks

You can cut out one level by not uploading the main folder produced by iWeb...
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/iWeb/URLs-Favicons.html
Or cut out the navigation by building an html version in a text box...

  • How to Change iWeb page themes after the page has already created?

Once you have created a page with a theme and saved it, and then later you want to change it to another theme... How does one change theme without recreating the page?
Also, How does one add background music to a page once it is opened?
    Thanks!
    T.

I too am wondering about your first question, but I have found a workaround for your second question.
First save the audio clip as a mov file in quicktime, then place it somewhere on the page. Make it small and out of the way and hide ot from site.
Now publish the site. Then you will have to change the HTML. Open text edit and select "Ignore Rich Text Commands". Open the iDisk icon on the left and find the Web folder then follow this string Web/Sites/iWeb/<Your Site Name>/<then the page name folder, example: "Home_files">/then "Home.js"
Once opened find the quicktime file use the find feature it will list the properties twice, the second listings are the ones you want to change. Change controller="true" to controller="false". Then autoplay="false" to autoplay="true" and loop="false" to loop="true".
If you change that specific page and republish you will have to do this again, but only if you change that page. You will not if you rebublish and you had made no changes to that specific page.
    Hope this helps.

  • How to delete iweb page that crashes program

I have one page on my web site that crashes the program when i try to open it or delete it.. Is there another way to remove this volatility from the website with out loosing any other site pages?

/Users/yourname/Sites/Home is the folder where the actual pages are stored, deleting one item there will force iWeb to rebuild the site index and may fix the problem ...

  • Uploading iWeb pages to different iDisk

    Hi,
I have a family pack .mac and iLife and want to add a iWeb created site to one of the sub accounts rather than the main account. Does anyone know how to do it?
    Thanks
    eMac(s), 12" Powerbook   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

I don't know if it will work, but have you tried setting up a new account on your machine and working with iWeb from it for the different iDisk?

Enter the IP number in the server address box, your username and password and leave the Directory/Path box empty if you are uploading to the root folder.

  • How to edit iWeb pages in Lion

After installing Lion, iWeb is gone.. searched the forum and many tips for other programs. But I will edit an old site built in iWeb.. Is there a program that can read iWeb projects without problems?

Are you sure the iWeb application is not in your Applications folder? If it is consider the following:
In Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
To open your domain file in Lion or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.
If the iWeb application is not on your hard drive then reinstall it from the disks that came with your Mac.  It will look like one of these:
    Then apply the appropriate updaters.

  • How to upload one (1) page in iWeb

If I have a Web site that has 1000 pages.. and I add 1 page or make 1 change to a page
How do I make that change on my Website without uploading the whole 1000 pages again??
I started to use iWeb publishing to FTP, but seems to only be able to upload the entire
site to the server.. not just the changes to one (1) page or that one (1) extra page
Does this mean I have to return to FileZilla and use that up loader to the server ??
Or.. am I missing something ??
    Thanks

If depends on what you're using to upload the files.  If you use iWeb to ftp the files it can determine what pages in the site are new or modified and upload only those files.  To assure iWeb does that I use the File ➙ Upload Site Changes option.
If you use a 3rd party ftp client like the free  Cyberduck you can still upload only those new or modified files.  This tutorial describes how: #2 - Uploading only those published new or newly edited files when using a 3rd party FTP client.
If you have that many pages, or a lot, it would be more efficient to have multiple sites in multiple domain files.  You can link to another site in the navbar by having a totally, blank page titled so as to match a similar page in the other site with the following code in an HTML snippet on the page:
    <script type="text/javascript">
parent.window.location = "URL TO SITE YOU WANT TO REDIRECT TO"; </script>
Thanks to Cyclosaurus for this code
If your site has sections of similar topics they could be in one site in their own domain file. Web Site Maestro can be used to create new domain files to house the various sites and switch between them.

how long does iweb take to upload to idisk re 11 page site, please

How long is a piece of string? There are so many variables it is impossible to say for sure, how many graphics, videos, what broadband speed you have all have to be taken into account. Why don't you try it and tell us the answer.

  • I want to transfer iWeb pages from my computer to a friends computer. How do I upload the pages to them?

I want to transfer iWeb pages from my computer to a friends computer. How do I do this?

What is the friend going to do with the website?  If he's to edit and publish it follow Wyodor's links on moving the Domain.sites file to the other Mac.  If it's just so he can open the site locally you need to publish your site to a folder on your hard drive and move that folder to his computer.
