  • How to upload and publish a non iweb site to mobile me

How do I upload a website I made from a flash template to my mobile me server, I had a iweb website published there, now I want to use my same domain name and publish the new flash site I created to the mobile me server and disable the iweb site.

Just log into your MobileMe account and go to your iDisk and delete the iWeb site that is there.
You can load your other site there by simply dropping and dragging your files for your new site to the Sites folder on your iDisk. Alternatively, MobileMe uses webdav so you can use Cyberduck to publish too.

  • Using iWeb for non dot-mac sites

    Hi all,
I own a number of domains that I'd like to use iWeb on. Am I able to utilize iWeb for a non .mac domain, or do I need to use something like Dreamweaver?
    Many thanks.
    -Hugh

No, in fact I have a sneaky suspicion that not using dot-mac sites will eliminate a lot of problems other people have. You will also lose some of the effects like the nicer slideshow etc.
I have never used dot-mac and never encountered any of the uploading/publishing problems that are so often mentioned on this forum.
    Here is what you do:
After editing your website you choose :Publish to a folder.
This lets you choose a location on your hardrive into which all the necessary files will be compiled/rendered. In this folder you will find an htlm file plus a folder with the necessary files for easch of your pages.. This publishing is done lightning fasy pecause it is done locallly and not trhough your internetconnection like when you published to dot-mac. Also post-editing is easy and hassle free.
For editing and uploading my website I use "Transmit" but there are lots of other applications like "Fetch"
    What to upload?
Well I believe the jury is still out on this.
I just upload the contents of the published folder and that works for me. Other publish the whole folder plus the dummy "Index file" that is generated outside that folder. You will heve to find out for your self.
If any changes or editing has to be done afterwards, I republish and then just upload the altered files.
There is one more thing I do, and I believe others don't. I keep my domain file in the same folder where I keep the Published folder.
E.g. there is a festival website, so I have a folder "Festival" in which I keep the domains file, and the published "Festival website" folder.
This way it is easy to keep various different websites.
When you want to edit one of them, go to that folder and double click the domains file, this will start iWeb with the right website for you to edit.
    Really very easy.

  • How do I upload iWeb-site without using 'Flie Publish' feature?

Due to corporate firewall restrictions I cannot use iDisk, Sync or iWeb to connect to .mac, which presented a problem when I wanted to Publish my iWeb site.
I have uploaded the site [via webdav, with Transmit] to the Sites folder of my iDisk, but I can't find my site when I enter my .mac URL into my browser (http://web.mac.com/myusername or http://homepage.mac.com/myusername).
Theoretically, is this the right way to upload to iDisk without using iWeb? Is there anything else I need to do to link my URL to the files in iDisk/Sites?
    Thanks in advance, Lee.

Ok, my member name is leepaulvickers.
    I've tried
    http://web.mac.com/leepaulvickers
    http://web.mac.com/leepaulvickers/iweb
    http://web.mac.com/leepaulvickers/leepaulvickers
    http://homepage.mac.com/leepaulvickers
but just get the 'we can't find the HomePage you've requested' 404 error.
BTW I've used Transmit to upload to my iDisk in the past, such as files and photos with no problems. I assumed there would be no trouble with iWeb's files...

  • Uploading iweb site to path within a directory

I need to upload my website to a certain path within a larger directory. My iweb site is not the main site. The main site though uses php and well iweb doesn't. Is it still possible to upload my iweb site to a path in this directory and it function correctly? If so, how would I go about doing this?

Okay, so firstly, you CAN't have an iWeb account - iWeb is an application that is on your Mac and you can use it whatever if it is there - there is no account that is needed.
You will not now be able to get a MobileMe account if you don't already have one, as they are not taking any more subscriptions as it will not be here from June next year, iCloud having replaced it.
You say that you have a "url" or do you mean domain name from GoDaddy?  If you do, then to be able to upload a website you also need to purchase a hosting account from them.
Not having a hosting account would be one very good reason why you would be getting the error messages' cannot connect to server' - this is because you have no server/host to connect to because you don't have a hosting account.
Go to GoDaddy and purcahse a hosting account from them and you will then be able to upload your site.

  • Uploading iweb site using filezilla

I am using filezilla right now to upload my site I have created on iweb. Everything is working fine other than the fact that it seems that everytime I make a simple change to a page or something I then have to go and upload the whole site all over again which can be very time consuming. So I was wondering if any of you had any tips or ideas on how to get around this. Thanks for your help!

i am struggling to even upload using i web / filezilla - i am a novice!!
To get help, you need to explain what your problem is in more detail. In the meantime try Cyberduck and see if these instructions help:

  • Publishing to a non dot Mac site

I'm trying to make a slideshow in iWeb and upload it to my usual web pages which are not dot mac sites. Nothing is working, so I wonder if maybe that's not an option and iWeb can only be used to publish on Mac.com pages.

Big sloppy gooey mess. I published it all to Dreamweaver and then I got into the icky sticky html and managed to make the slide show on a black background, but the timing didn't exist and I couldn't reduce the screen size to allow for any text or hyperlinks. So, I thought I'll just do it the old way in Dreamweaver, but I have the 30 day trial which doesn't seem to permit me to use my older DW. Now, the shockwave and flash don't work any more. I suppose that's so I'll buy more stuff. Discouraged? I sure am. It seems all this software has little things planted in them that scream Buy More! Now I'll see if there's a free trial on Flash, but it's getting more confusing. I like the simplicity of iWeb, but I need more control. I like the control of Dreamweaver, but it's sloppy.

  • Upload iweb site?

I need to upload the iweb site i made to a .com i know i can save the project to a folder and do it that way. My problem is this. I have a website now that i pay for I have the domain i need through internet account manager. the domain is paid for i can cancel the domain and free it up or use the site to host my domain.
anyways i need to know how to turn my iweb website into a legit .com It need to be professional like anew.com i cant have those long addresses that i get when i use mobil me to host my website where its [email protected] can someone show me where i can go or how i can upload my iweb site and have it be simple.com style i dont mind paying for the service. please help i needed this site up last week.
    thanks

To be able to have a web mail address like [email protected] you need to upload your files to a commercial hosting account rather than MobileMe.
You can upload the files using the iWeb FTP or, better still, an FTP application since you will want to publish your site to a local folder first to add tags for SEO.

Once your files are uploaded, you can forward the domain name using Cname by going into your domain registrar account or, more conveniently in the long run, switch the domain name registration to your hosting company.
Web mail is set up in your hosting account control panel and it can be any name you like @yourwebsite.com and forwarded to any number of email addresses.

  • How to transfer iWeb site to another Mac in Lion

Does anyone know how I can move my iWeb site from my Macbook Pro to my iMac.  I've transfered the files, but iWeb doesn't see the data.  I've copied the data to the iWeb folder in my User Library thinking that would help as I've read others have done in Snow Leopard.  This doesn't seem to work in Lion.  thanks for the help.  I'm using iLife 11

In Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
For opening your domain file in Lion for the first time or to switch between multiple domain files  Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
Just launch the applicaiton, find and select the domain file you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
You can download an already compiiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.

  • How to create iWEB site from OLD iWEB site? (Hosted)

Okay, so the domain is corrupt.
I have the site hosted and downloaded it via FTP, wondering two things, well one really, is there a way to rebuild the site since I have all the folders, assets, html pages, and images? If so, how?
I suppose I can rebuild it page by page but want to change the theme and since I have the folders, was wondering if there was a way I can take the downloaded pages and somehow drag them to iWEB or some other MAC WEB program.
Please advise, also, any other cool programs for iWEB or web design similar to Pulp Motion, Banner Zest, and how to make a site use flash without flash?
Am also curious what else there is out there so the site doesn't look so iWeb and have the ability to change the fonts on say, WELCOME< ABOUT, HOME, and also use flash.
Have used dream weaver, not to inspiring albeit the standard.
    Thanks

If you decide to rebuild with iWeb Chapter 2.3 of this iWeb FAQ site has tips on using some of the published files in the reconstruction of the site.

  • How to move iWeb site with missing Domain.sites file

I've been asked to host a friend's iWeb site now that MobileMe is no longer an option.  The problem is that the MacBook it was created with is long gone and the only original files remaining are the image files for the site. No Domain.sites file.  They are also not sure which version of iWeb was used, if that even matters.  Initially I was thinking we could just access the existing site using ftp and go from there - upload the site to my hosting account and use Dreamweaver to maintain it, but everything I've read seems to point to 'Not gonna happen that way'.
Is there a way to transfer an existing iWeb site hosted on MobileMe to a new hosting account and be able to work on it with another editor, all the while not having the original Domain.sites(2) file?
    Thanks much,
    Mark

Quite a few people are moving to other drag and drop style editors like Sandvox and RapidWeaver although they aren't really any better - just more expensive.
I advise people not to use iWeb for new sites and just to keep it going to update existing ones until they are defunct or rebuilt some other way.
I quit using iWeb about a year ago due to the fact that it, and similar apps, can't create responsive designs for mobile devices although I did figure out a stop gap design for iPhones...

  • Problems uploading iWeb site, keychain issue

    Hi
I updated my iWeb site yesterday and uploaded, everything fine.
I have done some amends this morning and then tried to upload. I get kicked backs with an offer to learn about MobileMe, which I already have. So I click the sign in button and it tells me I have a Keychain error which prevents access.
    All looks fine in Keychain.
I have gone to system prefs and tried to access my MobileMe account. I am denied access.
I have tried deleting the plists from my library, no effect.
    Anyone got any thoughts?
    Thanks
    Jon

Jon ~ Try this: Quit iWeb. Then  menu > System Preferences... > MobileMe icon > Account tab > click on Sign Out... Then enter a garbage name and password and try to sign in. This apparently clears the MobileMe preferences. Then enter your real username and password. Once signed in, quit System Preferences, open iWeb and see if you can publish.
If that doesn't help and no-one else chips in here with a suggestion, MobileMe live chat support is now 24/7 — see this announcement.

  • Uploading iWeb site to internet.

Error message "cannot connect to server" when I try uploading my iWeb site to the internet (godaddy.com url). I saved the html file to my local hard drive (on the desktop) and tried uploading through FTP on iWeb, FileZilla, and GoDaddy's. Similar error messages on all three. Solutions? Fixes? Better ways to make and get my website up?! Also, not sure if it makes a difference but I don't have an iWeb account or a MobileMe account. I just happen to have the software on my MacBook Pro so I thought it'd be an easy way to make my first website.
    Thank you!
    Miri

  • How To Resore iweb Site?

The hard drive in my ibook crashed and needed to be replaced. I used backup on .mac and did a full back up and I have the folder with my iweb site backed up. My problem is, how do I get it back into iweb? My site works fine when I go to it on the web, but I can't get it to come up in iweb so that I can edit it. Does anyone know how I can restore it back into iweb?
    Thanks, Ken
    I-Book G4   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

Your iWeb data is stored, not in your actual html files, but in a file called Domain.sites which is stored in your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder. You should backup this file whenever you make big changes to your site, because if it gets lost or damaged, you will have to start all over.
Did you backup your Home folder from before? You might luck out and still have your domain.sites file.

  • How t:  import iweb sites into go live?

Is it possible/ easy to import the iweb domain file

    deeper knowledge of go live?
You can't use the iWeb Domain file with anything but iWeb.
You can probably edit published iWeb sites with GoLive and modify and save them. Whether that would make your site more acceptable to IE I have no idea. I don't think GoLive is a simple program. You can probably download a trial from Adobe and play with it and ask questions on the Adobe forums.
