How to use a bluetooth dongle instead of built-in BT?

Just got an "Ultra Long Range Industrial" bluetooth dongle (BTD Bluetooth Dongle BT-6610).  I want to use it instead of the built-in bluetooth because it has a much longer range.
How do I disable the built in bluetooth and enable the BT-6610?
The dongle shows up:

Hi X42:
Your last paragraph intrigued me as I had the same impression:
  I thought unlicensed BT devices were legally limited by the FCC to about 30 feet (3 meters)
Actually, 30 feet is 10 meters.
Anyway, I researched and found this as part of a Wikipedia item:
Bluetooth is a standard wire-replacement communications protocol primarily designed for low power consumption, with a short range (power-class-dependent, but effective ranges vary in practice; see table below) based on low-cost transceiver microchips in each device.[7] Because the devices use a radio (broadcast) communications system, they do not have to be in visual line of sight of each other, however a quasi optical wireless path must be viable.[2]
Class
Maximum Permitted Power
Range
(approximate)
mW
dBm
Class 1
100
20
~100 meters
Class 2
2.5
4
~10 meters
Class 3
1
0
~5 meter
The effective range varies due to propagation conditions, material coverage, production sample variations, antenna configurations and battery conditions. In most cases the effective range of class 2 devices is extended if they connect to a class 1 transceiver, compared to a pure class 2 network. This is accomplished by the higher sensitivity and transmission power of Class 1 devices.[8]
Apparently there are BT devices that will transmit about 300 feet.  I did look at the FCC site, but quickly became confused in the technbabble.

  • How can I tell whether my Mac Pro is using the bluetooth dongle or not?

    I got myself a bluetooth dongle to get around the terrible internal BT signal. When it's in use, it alleviates all my troubles and I can actually stroll halfway down the hall and still type accurately.
    However, it seems that every time I reboot, it must stop using the dongle and use the internal, because I then get the terrible signal of the internal antenna. The only way to convince my computer to use the dongle, is to unplug and plug it back in. Then I have to delete all my bluetooth devices and pair them again!
    So yes, I am seeking a two-part solution.
    Firstly, I'd like to know if there's anywhere in System Profiler, BT Preferences, Terminal, etc that will just inform me of WHICH bluetooth my computer is using.
    Secondly, I'd ideally want to set it to default to the dongle. If this isn't possible, at least the first part would let me know when I need to arduously re-do my settings.
    Thank you very, very much. Usually this isn't that big an issue, as I only rarely need to move my peripherals off my desk, but I got a Magic Mouse earlier this week and its extremely clear it doesn't have as strong an antenna or whatever as the Mighty Mouse, and it starts going erratic if I move it so much as a foot from the Mac Pro tower.

    I have the same problem and I cannot find any way to turn off the internal bluetooth without killing all bluetooth including the dongle. If someone has a way to turn off the internal bluetooth I want to see it.
    Thanks

  • How to use a bluetooth cellphone for audio input and output

    Hello, I was wondering how to set-up my Mac Book so that I can use my bluetooth cellphone for audio in and audio out. Ideally, I would like to use my handset for talking on iChat and Skype. Has anyone had any luck doing this? When I bond my cellphone these optiosn do not appear. I know that this is easy to do on a Windows machine but I am not sure about how to do it on my Mac Book.
    Thanks!

    Yes it should do what you want.
    Go to "Audio Midi Setup", and go to the Audio menu and click "Open Aggregate Device Editor". The interface is pretty simple but if you do get stuck, just use the help function in Audio Midi Setup, as it has a step by step guide.
    Then when you return to logic, go to the Preferences>Audio>Drivers section and select Aggregate Device as the new driver rather than either the built in sound or the tascam. Then the inputs and outputs will apply to BOTH devices.

    Hi,
    You canr use text modules in script. You have to use standard texts .
    Standard text are maintained in SO10 transaction.
    you can create translation text for other languages also . So based on logon language it will print translation text.
    go to SO10
    give textname it say Ztextname  id as ST and language as EN
    say create, then you will get editor there maintain your text and save it . then come back . Now change language (say for german DE) say create and eneter translation text and save it.
    so now you have created a text called ztextname which you can use in your script.
    Inorder to insert the texts in your script do as below
    go to any window editor and   select path
    Insert->texts->symbols->standard symbols
    then you will get popup  in which you have to mention all the parameters that you have created earlier.
    after inserting just change language EN to sy-langu
    Reward points if useful
    About text elements Sravan already given some informatiomn

  • How To Use External Bluetooth Adapter?

    My desk is about 15' from my Mac Mini (running 10.8.2). I'm using an Apple Bluetooth Keyboard and Magic Mouse. The keyboard works pretty well but the mouse is awful. It frequently drops the connection and is erratic most of the time when it is connected. Signal strength is low, varrying between -75 and -84 dBm according to the Connection RSSI graph in System Preferences. In hopes of improving the situation I got a USB extension cable and a USB Bluetooth dongle with the thought that I could find a location for the dongle that would give me better signal strength.
    So far, I'm not seeing much – if any – improvement and I'm wondering if I'm actually using the external adapter. Does anybody know of a way to tell which adapter is being used? Of if this strategy will even work?

    Hi
    Can you please tell me which USB adapter you try to use? Please send the PAXXXX number.

  • How to use URL in actionscript  Instead of services-config.xml?

    Hi Alls,
    I would like to set my service's url in actionScript (I don't
    want to use compiler option -services witch need to recompile swf
    if you change service's url).
    I search for a long time on google but I found nothing, and
    adobe documentation isn't very clear.
    Thank for help!!!

    If you are relying on a services-config.xml file, then this
    must be provided
    at compile time because the compiler uses it to generate
    code.
    If you're not using <mx:DataService>, you can actually
    avoid compiling against
    a services-config.xml file. This is because for the other
    services, such
    as <mx:RemoteObject> or <mx:WebService
    useProxy="true"> or <mx:HTTPService
    useProxy="true">, the main thing the compiler does from
    services-config.xml
    is to generate the code to instantiate the set of channels
    that should be
    used to contact a destination in LCDS.
    Well... you can do that programmatically in ActionScript...
    something like
    this:
    import mx.messaging.ChannelSet;
    import mx.messaging.channels.AMFChannel;
    private function channelInit():void
    var channelSet:ChannelSet = new ChannelSet();
    var channel:AMFChannel = new AMFChannel(null, "
    http://{server.name}:{server.port}/mycontext/messagebroker/amf");
    channelSet.addChannel(channel);
    myRemoteObject.channelSet = channelSet;
    Just make sure you call this initialization code before you
    make any service
    requests. If you're proxied WebServices, be sure that you use
    the ActionScript
    API instead of the MXML tag so that you can delay when
    loadWSDL() is called
    because you'll want to setup the channelSet first.

    Pete

  • I have no idea how to use the new "messages" instead of ichat

    i have recently got my first macbook. it isnt the first time i used one.  my friend has the macbook pro as well.  she has the "ichat" app for connecting with her friends.  but i have the "messages" app and i have no idea how to use it.. i cant find the buddy list to add friends... i dont know how to sign in to my account.. and when i try to send a message to someones id it says they arnt registered with ichat.. i have no idea what to do or where to begin!

    Hi Alexaaa,
    Open the Messages app and under the Messages menu go to Preferences>Accounts and set up your account using your AppleID and password.
    Once you have your account set up, then open the messages window. Next to the Search window you will see a little square with a pencil in it, click on that to start a new message. The cursor will be in the "To" line, and at the end of that line you will see a ". Click on that, and your contacts list will come up. Find the contact you want to send a message to, and select either their email or their phone number to send a message. Type in your message in the little message window at the bottom and press Enter to send.
    Hope this helps! Let us know if you have any other questions!

  • JCA Classpath - How to use library from rar instead of from WLS

    We have a stand-alone resource adapter that uses the apache commons net library, and relies on features added in version 2.0.
    When we deploy to WLS 10.3.2, we get a class loading error when invoking the adapter. Method org.apache.commons.net.ftp.FTPClient.setConnectTimeout(T)V is not found.
    WLS 10.3.2 includes an older version of the library: com.bea.core.apache.commons.net_1.0.0.0_1-4-1.jar.
    Despite paclkaging the proper version (2.2) in our rar, the older and incompatible 1.4.1 version from the system classpath is used.
    Is there a way to use the version packaged in our stand-alone rar file? I have seen a way to do this for a war file (prefer-web-inf-classes in deployment descriptor).
    O know we could to modify the system classpath in the weblogic startup scripts to use the newer library. We prefer not to do this, since we don't know how WLS uses the library internally, and what might be affected by a different version.

    unfortunately, standalone adapter has not prefer-web-inf-classes or similar feature support.

  • Activesync doesn't work - How to use Windows bluetooth driver?

    Well, I have nearly given up on trying to get the Toshiba Bluetooth stack to work with my QTek PDA Phone. The reason for this is that the stack does not correctly enumerate all the functions of the device and therefore I can't configure the activesync program to use the correct com port.
    Frankly, I'm disappointed that Toshiba chose to ship their own ad-hoc bluetooth implementation for Windows when Windows has their own.
    So the question I have is, is there a "Correct way" to completely remove the Toshiba provided bluetooth stack (without using the Ghost image I made before installing it) and get a proper Windows bluetooth driver?
    As for bluetooth security, the only added security I've seen using the Toshiba stack is that you can't actually make it work with anything so you aren't at risk.
    P.S. I've tested with other Windows CE bluetooth devices as well, same problem.

    Well I don't like it because it doesn't actually enumerate the serial port devices of my telephone and therefore I can't configure Microsoft ActiveSync to work with it since there is only one com port configured instead of 2.
    I need the Microsoft Bluetooth stack so that I can have a standard configuration.
    So it's more than just removing the Toshiba stack, it's also about installing the Microsoft stack, or getting the Microsoft stack to recognize the hardware.
    Thanks for the info so far, but do you know if it's possible to enable the Microsoft stack?

    Bluetooth can only be used on iOS devices to connect to speakers, headphones, keyboards and a few other items. It cannot be used to transfer files between different devices. Hi
    You should check this Toshiba BT portal and the HowTO section:
    http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/bluetooth/?page=howto
    There you can find this document:

    It says that you have to use the BT stack/driver from your notebook manufacturer!
