How to use a second computer just to listen to iPod?

I want to use my computer at work to listen to the music on my Nano, not to manage it. My personal laptop is the Nano's "home" computer. I have iTunes installed on my work computer, but I don't want to transfer my Nano contents to that computer. I just want to use the work computer as a pass-though device to its speakers so I can listen to the music on iPod at the office. Is this possible?
When the Nano is plugged into the computer, I can't see what's stored on the Nano, but the songs will play--in alphabetical order only. Since I can't "see" what's on the Nano via the computer (and Nano's own screen goes to "Do Not Disconnect" when plugged in), I can only scroll through songs blindly using the "next" control in iTunes.
Is there a way to see my playlists and all Nano contents via the computer, without transferring anything to the computer itself? The IT guys will smack me silly if I have a music library on the work computer. I can't afford to buy a separate audio device (i.e., Bose speaker dock, etc.), and since my computer already has great speakers, it would seem redundant to buy a stand-alone speaker thingy just for the iPod.
Am I asking for the impossible?

You have two choices: First, install iTunes on the
computer at work. Then set your iPod to manually
manage and connect it to the computer. It will show
up in iTunes and you'll be able to play the songs
that are on the iPod.
iTunes was installed first, well, second after I saw that WMP wouldn't work with the iPod. I selected "Manually manage," but that doesn't solve the problem. When in iTunes, the Nano shows up as a device over on the left side of the screen, but no matter where I click or what I try, it won't show me the contents of the Nano. If I click on the "play" button in iTunes, the music plays, but as I said earlier, songs are in ABC order. I have to just keep clicking the forward button to get to a song I want. I have over 3 gigs of music loaded on the Nano--that's a lot of blind scrolling!
Second, buy a pair of speakers
for the iPod.
See my first post. No money!

  • Use a second computer as a 3rd display?

    Hi there!
Is it possible to use a second computer (my laptop in this case) to receive video as a 3rd display, through firewire? I think all I need is just a driver or program on the receiving computer to let be recognized as a camera by the main computer.
This thought is to avoid buying (impossible at this moment) a 2n graphic card.
Thanks a lot and if someone found another way to do that please let me know!

    Hey! It worked! Thanks!
I can use my pc laptop as a 3rd monitor. After configuring an VNC program as a client on my laptop PC and started the screenrecyler (as a vnc server) on my mac, a 3rd monitor is detected in os x preferences. Nice!
I'm using a 1Gb ethernet connection and frame rates are quite good.
I don't need that 3rd monitor for high quality video, just to play piano while i'm looking video (I am composer and now I have my keyboard at on side, so I don't need any more to turn my head at right, just the laptop over the keyboard!).
    Thanks again for your replies.

No. You need to buy it for your Apple ID and for the other. You will have problems with updates

  • How can I use a new computer without deleting everything on iPod?

    Hey Guys
I need a bit of help.
My old computer died, it was running Windows XP. I've got myself a new computer running Windows 7.
I have a copy of my iTunes folders from my old computer (taken 2 days before it died)
How can I use a new computer without deleting everything on iPod touch?
I've imported all the folders (music, apps etc) into the new computer's iTunes, but when I sync my iPod
I receive a window asking if i want to sync i need to erase and replace with the iTunes library on the computer.
I particularly don't want to do this.
My wife also uses my iTunes for her iPhone.
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

Make a backup of the iPod by connecting the iPod to the computer and right clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and selecting Backup. Then restore the iPod from that backup and sync as necessary.

  • How to use the second display for installation OS in my vertical lines iMac

My 17" iMac display is full of vertical lines, it is unuseable. Does anyone know how to use the second display for Mac OS X or disable the first display for installation Mac OS x ?

Go to: *System Preferences > Displays* and select the Arrangement tab, then relocate your Menu bar by dragging it to the other display.
Unfortunately there is no Hardware or Software switch to turn off the iMac's Internal Display.

  • Using a second computer as a external midi instrument or DAW slave?

So this is my current setup:
    iMac 24(FW 800 & 400) with logic 8 & reason 4,
Focusrite Saffire Pro 40 firewire (x2) sound card/pre-amp,
Blackbook with MainStage & Reason 4.
& this is what I would like to do:
Use my imac as my main DAW master, (currently tracking to an external FW800 drive & pulling loops from a USB drive), & use my blackbook to run reason as a external midi device or slave.
My Saffire Pro 40 has 2xFW400 ports so I can connect both machines to it.
The idea behind this setup is to pull as many software sounds from the Blackbook & mainly use the imac to run Logic.
Does this make sense? & if so, what's the best way to execute this?
    thanks in advance

    Hello -
I'm not entirely sure that one audio device such as the Saffire Pro 40 with 2 Firewire ports can be shared between two computers. It was always my impression that the second Firewire port was available to "daisy chain" another audio device or hard drive. Before you proceed, you might want to check with the company that manufactures the Saffire Pro 40 and make sure that two computers can interphase with it.
With regards to using a second computer as a "slave machine", it seems that many, many people do have such configurations to help spread the CPU and memory work-load. My happy Mac Pro is set up to work with a potential of two other "slave machines". When I use this set up, it works wonderfully. But, for most of the time, my happy Mac Pro can manage most sequencing projects (mostly orchestral with LOTS of instruments) on its own. Each computer, however, has its own audio device. All are connected to the Mac Pro using the ADAT light inputs/outputs from each audio device (I use MOTU's audio devices) and are managed midi-wise using Music Lab's MOLCP 3.
    Good luck. . .

  • How to use template to print just 1 photo onto CD or DVD?

I know that PSE 11 has a template that allows you to prepare a picture directly onto a CD od DVD.  The templates are much too complicated for what I need.  How do I get to place just one picture & move it a little if necessary?
    Thanks in advance

Are you trying to create a CD/DVD jacket?
You may delete the extra frames (select the layer and hit delete) and just have one for this picture.

  • How to manage library when computer HD is smaller then Ipod HD??

There has to be a way that I can manually manage my music etc without filling up my PC HD. I just got this Ipod and already I am out of disk space on my PC (ok, so its only a 20GB HD). What am I missing? Can't I copy CDs then import them to the Ipod and delete them from my PC?? Any help?

You can delete songs from your iTunes/computer hard drive after transferring them to the iPod, and for this you need to set your iPod to manage the songs manually.
However, this is an extremely risky option because when (and not if) there comes a time to restore your iPod, which is a very common fix for iPod problems, then all the music would be erased. If you no longer have the music in iTunes (or any other back up), then all that music would be lost.
What if the iPod were lost/stolen/needed repair? Again, the music would lost. I strongly recommend a back up, and if computer hard drive space is in short supply, you should seriously consider an external hard drive. They are not expensive, and the cost is well worth it when compared to the loss of all your precious music.
At the very least back up your music to either cd or dvd before deleting it, particularly any purchased music/videos, as this would have to be bought again if it were lost. See this.
How to back up your media in iTunes.
The iPod is not reliable enough to use it as a long term storage device, and these forums are littered with posts from people who decided to use it as such and ended up losing all their music.

Use the Deauthorize All command documented in this article, or if it isn't an option, the 'contact iTunes Store support' link at the bottom of it.

  • How do I use a second computer as a monitor?

    Hi,
I have an iMac and a MacBook Pro. I want to primarily use my iMac and use my macbook as a monitor. I'm a musician and I want to run Ableton on one screen and maschine on another.
For some reason I can't find any forums explaining this, unless I'm just wording it wrong. I'm assuming it's a cord I need, probably a firewire.
    Anyone know what to do?
    Thanks,
    Savanna

Ok, thanks. So my iMac takes a mini displayport cable and my macbook pro takes a thunderbolt cable. Do you know if they make cables with one side mini
displayport and the other side thunderbolt? I tried searching but found nothing. I'm guessing the only difference between the two (since they physically look the same) is the wiring inside, so they can't make a cord with both together.
