How to use airport express wired and wireless at the same time

Hi,
I currently have FiOS with Verizon, they ran a coax cable to the Verizon router. I didn't ask them to switch to CAT6 cable since I have an airport extreme base station and an airport express base station (both are the newest generation). I ran a CAT6 cable from the Verizon FiOS router to my AEBS (extreme) to make it the default wireless router. The Verizon router and extreme are in one room. Now, the Airport express is in my living. I'd like to extend the wireless network from the extreme. However, I can't seem to find a way to use both wired and wireless from the airport express at the same time. It's now either via wired, or wiresless. So is there a way to get both work?

Can you tell us if you used Apple's instructions for a "roaming" network?

Although the instructions picture a 2nd AirPort Extreme in the illustrations, the setup instructions would be exactly the same for an AirPort Express.

  • Airport extreme wired AND wireless at the same time?

Very sorry for this newbie question. Can i have my iMac wired to my computer with ethernet and wireless at the same time?
If so, what ports to i plug what into?
My guess is modem-wan port on extreme and a cable going wired from the ethernet port on the extreme to the iMac?
Do i need to do any configuring?
    Thanks!

The operatibe word here is EXPRESS
To the best of my knowledge the ethernet port on the express is for ethernet IN not out
http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/AirPortExpressSetupGuide.pdf The pertinent diagrams are like page 20 - 25
Now you can actually do what you are talking about with an extreme.. an extreme can, in theorey operate as an remote/relay taking incoming signal giving you one - four out bound ethernet ports
that info can be found in the manual on setting up a WDS
the only thing to remember is .. the weakest leg controls.. if your wireless signal to the relay is poor. any thing using the relay for access will also be poor
I have found out the hard way about that
hey you can get good price on bulk cat 5

  • Can i do this? (wired and wireless at the same time?)

    Hi all
My first time on these boards, Iam hopefully setting up a wireless network at home very soon. At the moment I have a cable modem that is 'hard wired' directly into my G5 imac that has no wireless cards installed. simple (so far)
Now... Iam getting a laptop very soon and wish to go wireless roaming the house etc so i will purchase an airport extreme at the same time.. is it possible to have my laptop on wireless and the G5 'hard wired' from the airport station providing 2 connections at the same time one wireless, one hard wired?
If not, what kit do i need to make this happen? apart from a wireless card for the G5 which id rather not do as id like that connection 100% stable and as fast as the 10mb will go..
Any help and advice would be appreciated.
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

The default settings of the AEBS works with most cable modems without any configuration changes needed.
The AEBS is a NAT router, meaning that it will be "seen" by your ISP as a single device. In turn, the AEBS will distribute private IP addresses, on the local network, to all of the computers connected to it (wired or wirelessly) because it has a built-in DHCP server. So in this case, each of your computers would be assigned an unique IP address.

  • Can I use HP Pro 8600 with usb and wireless at the same time

Can I use HP Pro 8600 with usb and wireless at the same time?  Sometimes I cannot get the wireless to work, it seems to be my laptop.  It would be nice if I could use the usb, but it doesn't work.  What should / can I do, if anything?

    Hi,
Same physical printer but when connecting to SAME computer using both USB and wireless it becomes two (logical) printers. Probably your default prnter is the wireless one, you have to select the right printer before print .

  • Can you use a roaming network and wireless extender at same time?

Greetings community - I've been struggling with an attempt to extend my wireless network for some time now. Please forgive my ignorance on the topic - I realize how 'simple' this is for many of you.  Let me summarize:
    What I have functioning:
    1. Comcast telephony modem
    2. 5th gen Airport Extreme as main wireless router connected to modem via Ethernet (corner of floor 3)
    3. 2nd gen Airport Express as wireless extender (hooked to a stereo on floor 2)
    What I want to accomplish:
    1. I have poor wireless signal on my sun porch (corner of floor 1 opposite side of building as modem)
    Extra equipment I have:
    1. Another 5th gen Airport Extreme
    2. Another 2nd gen Airport Express
What I have tried (and failed at):
    1. Initially I set up the second Airport Extreme as a second wireless extender and placed it at a further point away than my first wireless extender.  I quickly realized that set up does not function appropriately and one cannot connect to the further extender (I read about that on the apple forums).
    2. I tried placing the second Airport Extreme in a different part of the house at equal distance from the main router as the first wireless extender.  It's capability to extend was minimal if any.
    3. I tried connecting the Airport Extreme to the main router via an Ethernet cable with the hopes of creating a roaming network (which I read about on the apple forums). I would have to come up with a way to run the Ethernet through the house but I'm willing to cross that bridge later.  Once I got that set up, the 2nd gen Airport Express which was previously set up as a wireless extender is no longer recognized. Argh!!
    Questions/Theories/Suggestions:
    1. Is it possible to have a wired extender (via Ethernet) function at the same time as a separate wireless extender all connected to the same router?  If so how do I do it?
    2. I thought about keeping Airport Extreme #1 wireless connected to Airport Express #1 and call that Network 1.  Then plug Airport Extreme #2 directly into the modem to create Network #2 and use Airport Express #2 as wireless extender.  When I tried plugging both Airport Extremes into the modem, they both stopped functioning.
    3. Do I get a second modem to put somewhere else in the house and use Airport Extreme #2 and Airport Express #2 in that fashion?  My guess is Comcast will try to charge me a separate internet access fee to do that (boo!!).
I know there are a lot of brilliant folks out there.  I'm sure someone can read this and see the 'obvious errors' in my ideas and attempts.  I'm certainly open to new suggestions as well.
Thank you in advance for your time and advice.

Is is possible to rename the AEx 2 a different network name from the AEx1 and AE 1 (even though they are all connected to each other)? And say it is possible, would that potentially preventing the jumping?
No, in extend wireless the names must be the same..
However since you are creating a network on AE2 which is extended by AEx2 then you can indeed use a different name.. but it must be both,, AE2 and AEx2.
    2. Even more crazy - if I did (could) give the AEx 2 a different network name, could I use my AE 2 as a wireless extension to that second network?  Or is this just getting out of hand now?
You have lost me now.. there are ways and means.. but let me recommend a better solution.
Use EOP (homeplug in US) adapters if you cannot run ethernet. Multi-storey houses where you have heavy concrete construction are never going to work well with wireless alone. You are much better getting ethernet properly installed (which is the only 100% guaranteed method).. or buy a set of EOP adapters and give them a try.. they work in some cases and not others.. but better than wireless when they do work.
Otherwise I think you need higher power wireless routers.. but I can suggest you do the setup in a more controlled manner.
In other words do not use auto as per the airport utility.. use very short wireless names, different for both bands.. and fixed wireless channels.. then test which band works better.. Then you can do a link.. which will be slow but might give you better performance.
    So..
Link1 Main AE1---- AEx1 This is wireless extend.
Link2 AEx1--ethernet--AE2. AE2 is in bridge mode and is also set to create a wireless network. (Use different wireless name here to prevent confusion).
    Link3 AE2-----AEx2 Second wireless extend.
This overcomes the Apple limitation on multiple extends. It is not great setup but might get wireless to where you need it.. And better speed than you can get now.
NOTE>. I would personally never do this.. I will run ethernet forevermore.. having tried and tried in various places and using all kinds of equipment.. my conclusion is.. wireless is not suitable.. unless you can get enough signal in from one AP.. everything behind it must be ethernet.
It is much more expensive in some cases.. but ethernet works.. nothing else can be guaranteed to work.

  • Officejet Pro L7780 Wired and wireless networking at same time

I have an officejet pro L7780 printer that I would like to use wired and wireless networking at the same time.  It that possible.  The printer is connected directly to the network by ethernet, but I would like to print wirelessly with an ipad or iphone using HP ePrint Home and Biz.
    Thanks,
    Maurice Hawley

The bad news: no it is not possible to have two connections active on your printer at once.
The good news: the router will connect any device to the printer regardless of how the printer or the devices are connected.  So your iPad can print to a printer that is wired (with Ethernet) to your router.
If it does not work, restart your router by pulling its power plug momentarily.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • Using AExpress with mac and PC at the same time?!

I spent all day with this issue, not resolved some...but
I am getting a blinking amber light after reseting my airport express, but yet it is the only way it connects my mac and my pc together on the device at the same time, without shutting one out,
How can I get them to share the base station and have the normal green light? if they have a green light it disconnects my pc wirless connection. Are there shared settings somewhere?
    windows xp pro sp3
    wireless usb card: belkin F5D9050
    mac macbook 10.5 osx
    airport card/utility
airport express downloaded 5.4.3 version for windows

    Thanks Tesserax
well, after 12 hours and trials I solved it myself, but I am considering more people have this issue, so I will share.
(make sure any adapter you buy is 802.11g/n/b compatible)
    I had a Belkin F5D9050 USB card,
so install the latest updated driver for it, not the one with the cd!!!
    found here: http://www.belkin.com/ca/support/article/?lid=enc&pid=F5D9050&aid=13773&scid=223
depending on your OS, pick one...but install driver first, then connect the usb card.
Then install the latest Airport Utility (*NOTE: there are alot of old ones that do not work out there!) Only use this one!
    Airport Utility: 5.4.2 June 2009
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/AirPortUtility_5_4_2Windows
If the AE utility doesn't detect your base station, press the reset button (until amber light flashes quickly), and then try re-scan again! do this until it shows up, then the installer will begin, if the amber light keeps blinking you need to reset again, once it works the lights will alternate between green and amber, then stay green.
IF YOU HAVE A MAC HOOKED UP: uninstall your airport base station from the unit for now, you can install it later after you configure your pc! The PC is sensitive and will not share the network, but mac will after.
Once the green light stays on you will be connected to wireless internet. Now you can connect your mac again.
I stumbled through this setup through trial and error, so do not quote me, but it worked for me.
If you have a password for it, write it down, you will need to enter it to connect to your base station again. This is the best way to stay online, and not have others stealing your wireless, or files.
You can share files to your PC and vise versa, just be sure to read up on sharing in Mac Osx.
If all goes well, now your PC and mac can be on the same base station at the same time.
If it works with amber light flashing it does, but is NOT connected right.
The light should be solid green.
TRUST ME, NO ONE HAS GOOD TIPS OUT THERE, AND CHAT SUPPORT DOES NOTHING!
I am sure I am forgetting something, but if you have an issue...just message me.

  • Airport Snow Network and Ethernet at the same time?

Here's the setup. I've got a new Intel MacMini (10.4.6), G4 Sawtooth (10.3.9), iBook G3 and a Dell all using wireless on the Airport Snow router. I'm in the process of moving files over from the Sawtooth to the Mini. The Sawtooth and the Mini are within 2 feet of each other.
Would I get better file transfer speed with a Ethernet crossover cable between them rather than the wireless network? Can I use the hard wire connection and the wireless connection via the router at the same time?
    Thanks in advance.

    Yes
Can I use the hard wire connection and the wireless connection via the router at the same time?
The Mac will use one OR the other if they are both connected.

  • Evdo and wireless at the same time?

    Hi,
I cannot get my T500 to connect to the internet via internal mobile broadband card AND a local wireless network at the same time. When I connect to the wireless network (via Windows connection not thinkvantage) to use my printer or squeezebox, the internet connection disconnects.
I am using Windows wireless connection to the wireless instead of Thinkvantage. Soapbox: thinkvantage is too domineering. I can't control my own computer because thinkvantage is like Hal and just takes it over. That being said, I just updated to the most recent version in hopes that this wireless/mobile broadband problem would be resolved. But no, the evdo still drops when I connect to use the wireless.  It's not immediate - I might get 3 or 4 minutes of dual connectivity  but it ultimately drops the evdo every time.
I've picked the brains of the linksys folks. They gave it a really good effort. We went through all kinds of configuration gyrations but no luck. Here is that discussion if you want to review: http://forums.linksysbycisco.com/linksys/board/message?board.id=Wireless_Routers&thread.id=149718 .
Can anyone over here help me? Many many thanks in advance!

    Thanks for your reply.
I am using thinkvantage to connect to WWAN. Vzaccess is really clunky. I suspect that this is the problem so I would like to connect to the wireless via thinkvantage. I realize I'm probably asking for a lot: use TV for one connection and Windows for another...

  • Use sound output hdmi and bluetooth at the same time?

    Hi
Im using a Mac mini and its connected to my magnifier and then to my TV.
I just bought a new speaker that I placed in my kitchen. I would like to play the same music in the livingroom and in the kitchen at the same time, is it possible?
My speaker got bluetooth and AUX.
I tried using midi but it doesn't work, is it because of the hdmi?

    Brian
Regarding the HDMI and Optical, yes they are both active, I have HDMI to TV and OA to soundbar, both work simultaneously and stand alone too.

can i use a track pad and a mouse at the same time

If you mean can you have them both connected at the same time, then it's a yes. I have both connected and use the mouse for some functions and the trackpad for others... works a charm.

  • Can psc2510 work connected and wireless at the same time?

My PSC2510 all-in-one is connected to my desktop the old-fashioned way.  Can I get my laptop to print wirelessly from the same printer?

I'm pretty sure that USB and wireless connections can work at the same time on this printer. Just make sure the same PC is not connected by both USB and wireless. The software will get "confused" as to which way to communicate with the printer.

  • Can I use the HP 4630 with both the USB Connection and Wireless at the same time?

Setup the HP 4630 and the wireless connection from the laptop works fine, but the USB connection on the desktop won't print.
The printer is recognized and says it is online. When I unplugged the USB the priner status went to off-line, plugged it back in and said it was ready. Tried to print the test page and nothing. Tried to print from Word and nothing. Rebooted and shut down the printer. After reboot gat the same issue. Any suggestions?

  • How to use two different versions of Firefox at the same time on Snow Leopard?

I recently upgraded to Firefox 4.0 on my 27" iMac running Snow Leopard 10.6.7.
Previously, I was using Google's "Page Speed" along with Firebug in Firefox 3.6.15 to optimize images in my web pages, and to find other areas to optimize.
Page Speed is not yet compatible with Firefox 4.0. I wrote to Google about this some time ago -- no answer yet.
If I run Firefox 3.6.15 in order to use Page Speed, I run into a few problems afterward when I start using Firefox 4.0 again, since they both use the same "Firefox" folder in my "Application Support" folder.
How can I set it up so that I can have two separate "Firefox" folders in my "Application Support" folder?
Or is there an easier way to use two different versions of Firefox simultaneously, even if one has extensions and/or plug-ins installed which are not compatible with the other version?
    Thanks for a great browser!

Please disregard my question. I just conducted more web search and learned how to use Firefox's profile manager in order to make a separate profile for Firefox 3.6.15.
You can find instructions on this page:
    http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Managing%20profiles#os=mac&browser=fx35
    '''A small tip:'''
If your Firefox app is named anything other than "Firefox" -- say for example "Firefox 3.6.15" -- when you follow the instructions at the above link, make sure you escape the blank space that is before the version number by adding a backward slash before it, when you type the command string in the Terminal. In other words, in that string, you should use this:
    Firefox\ 3.6.15
    I hope that helps someone.
