How to use AirPort Time Capsule 2TB as an external storage hard drive only?

I have a new AirPort Time Capsule 3TB, now I want to use my AirPort Time Capsule 2TB as an external storage hard drive only, how do I it?
I would like to  connect the AirPort Time Capsule 2TB directly to my Mac Pro. using OS X 10.7.5.
I have erase disk and reset the 2TB to factory default, after that, I cannot make it to connect to my Mac.  Please help.

The 2TB Time Capsule needs to connect to your 3TB Time Capsule using a wired Ethernet connection.
Connect from a LAN <--> port on the 3 TB Time Capsule to the WAN "O" port on the 2 TB Time Capsule and configure the 2TB Time Capsule in Bridge Mode and turn off the wireless function on the device as well.
Once that is done, you can connect your Mac directly to the 2TB Time Capsule using another Ethernet cable, or your Mac can connect to the network using the normal wireless network, if you prefer.

TM does not work like that.
If you want files to use later.. do not use TM.
Or do not use TM to the same location. Plug a USB drive into the computer and use that as the target for the permanent backup.
Read some details of how TM works so you understand what it will do.

  • How to use airport time capsule with multiple computers?

I'm sure there are some thread about this but i couldn't find it... so sorry for that but hear me out! =)
I bought the AirPort Time Capsule to back up my MBP
    And so i did.
then i thought "let give this one a fresh start" so i erased all of it with the disk utility and re-installed the MBP from the recovery disk.
I dont want all of the stuff i backed up just a few files and some pictures so i brought that back.. so far so good.
Now i want to do a new back up of my MBP so i open time machine settings, pick the drive on the time capsule and then "Choose" i wait for the beck up to begin, and then it fails.  It says (sorry for my bad english, im swedish haha) "the mount /Volume/Data-1/StiflersMBP.sparsebundle is already in use for back up.
    this is what i want:
i want the "StiflersMBP.sparsebundle" to just be so i can get some stuf when i need them. it's never to be erased.
i want to make a new back up of my MBP as if it's a second computer...
so guys and girls, what is the easiest and best solution?
    Best regards!

  • How to use Airport Time Capsule as a wireless hard drive?

I have purchased the Airport Time Capsule 3TB but I really don't need a backup disk, so I want to use it as a wireless hard disk to be used in my network, how can I do this?  Can someone give me a clear step by step guide of how I can do this?
I appreciate your help and support.

There is no difference between using the TC as a backup or as a network disk.
    Mount the disk in finder.
Copy files to it and from it.. in exactly the same way you copy files between disks in a Mac.
As a file store the TC is not good.
    Store files on the TC.
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/24380694#24380694
This is asked several times a day.. obviously people are struggling with their latest SSD being too small.
The TC is not suitable for network file server.. but many people having no choice press it into service as such.
It cannot be partitioned. It was and is and ever shall be a backup device for Time Machine.
    Major issues.
    1. No backup.. no way Time Machine can backup a network drive. No place to backup to.. So all your files will be at risk. And you will need to buy a third party like CCC to do backup.
    2. The TC cannot be partitioned and mixing TM backups and data is not great.
    3. The drive is slow to spin up and quick to spin down.. there is no controls.
    4. iPhoto in particular can easily corrupt its entire library with wireless networking causing a disconnection to one photo. Even if you do this;;; do not move your photo library... you have been warned!!
    5. iTunes will constantly lose connection to the library. The disk is too slow to respond.. itunes on the computer will constantly spit out errors. Even in the midst of streaming the TC can spin down the disk due to caching.
    6. Do not use any live files on the TC no matter what else you do.. if you edit files in whatever program the file must be on the local hard disk.
    7. The only suitable location for most libraries is a computer. You can plug in an external hard disk.

  • Can I use airport time capsule 2tb the same way as an external hard drive

I would like to know if I can use it as I would an external hard drive by dragging certain files or folders over to my Mac computer and not just as a backing up device. Where as I would only be able to completely add all files and folders without a choice of particular ones. Can anyone please help me. I would like to purchase it but don't know if I should just go with a simpler external hard drive. I do like the features of the airport but  I have noticed a few reviews of people claiming they were not able to select one folder to add or remove. Thanks for the help!

    Yes.

By default your new Time Capsule will broadcast an unsecured wireless network with a network name of something like: Apple Network NNNNNN
Most likely your iMacs will be connected to the wireless network created by the Virgin Media router. However, both should see the Apple Network under the AirPort icon's drop-down menu as another wireless network that they can connect to. Is this not the case?

  • How do I use my airport time capsule extreme as a external hard drive

How do I access files and save files to my airport time capsule like its an external HD.  How do I access the external HD that is connected to the time capsule?Ai

The TC is no different to any other network drive... you mount the drive and copy the files to it.. or copy files from it.
Same with USB drive plugged into the TC.
BUT.. TC is not suitable for live files.. ie files you are actively editing and working on. It is storage.. not working disk space.. and the USB drive more so.. it is slow.. much slower than same USB plugged into the computer by at least half.
And USB 2 wasn't that quick to begin with. The TC itself is slow.. although over wireless it is actually wireless that is the hold up.
Here is what I normally say for this question. It is asked every day.. often several times.
    Store files on the TC.

  • I have used Airport Time Capsule with my iMac for several years. I recently purchased a MacBook Air and when it tried to backup to Time Capsule it couldn't because Time Capsule is full. How can I now use the 3TB Airport Time Capsule to back up both?

I have used Airport Time Capsule with my iMac for a couple years. I recently purchased a MacBook Air and when it tried to backup to Time Capsule it couldn't because Time Capsule is full. How can I now use the 3TB Airport Time Capsule to back up both the iMac and MacBook Air? I don't mind losing earlier backups. I have excluded some items from backing up, but since the Airport Time Capsule is full, I can't even begin to back up the MacBook Air.

    On your Mac.......
Open Finder > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click on the Time Capsule icon, then click Edit in the smaller window that appears
Click on the Disks tab at the top of the window
    Click Erase Disk
On the next window that appears, select the Quick Erase option, then click Erase
The operation will only take a few minutes.
Now you are ready to start new backups of both Macs.  Back up one Mac first, then back up the other.  Do not try to back up both Macs as the same time.

  • My computer is macbook white with iOS 10. 6.8, will i able to use the new Airport Time Capsule 2TB and what does it mean administrate the Airport Time Capsule 2TB ?

my computer is macbook white with Mac OS X (10. 6.8), will i able to use the new Airport Time Capsule 2TB and work properly with Time Capsule on my computer to back up wirelessly?
And what does it mean "to administrate" because it was written in requirement of the Airport Time Capsule 2TB ?

You must use a Mac running Lion (10.7.5), Mountain Lion or Mavericks to be able to set up the Time Capsule and make any changes to the settings.
A recent version iPhone or iPad could also be used for this task.
From the Specifications on the Time Capsule:
    Setup and Administration
iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 6 or later and AirPort Utility 1.3
Mac with OS X Lion v10.7.5 or later and AirPort Utility 6.3

  • How to extend mobile wifi LTE with 2013 AirPort Time Capsule 2TB

At my home Im using HUAWEI E5776 4G/LTE mobile wifi for the internet/wifi connection and its working perfectly
Recently I bought 2013 AirPort Time Capsule 2TB, and Im trying to extend HUAWEI E5776 4G/LTE wifi connection with this Airport Time Capsule
Im using iMac airport utility but it seems there was a "crash" when I had choose the extending option, As it went nowhere
Does this airport can only be used with internet cable ?
I also have an old version of Airport Extreme which i can actually extend HUAWEI E5776 4G/LTE mobile wifi connection
I assume perhaps there is something need to be updated?

    Thanks for your help

The instructions for upgrade install of DD-WRT are very clear.. and simple although you should always take care. I read the instructions and follow them.. It might seem like obvious but 90% of the issues people get themselves into is caused by not reading the instructions.
DIR-632 has a set of specific instructions.
    http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/D-Link_DIR-632
Follow them to the letter deviating neither to the left or the right.
    And good results will follow.
As with any products in the domestic realm.. some are excellent .. some average and some stink real bad.
I have dealt with rotten products from all the major companies. Netgear still have plenty of stinkers out there.
Any universal wireless repeater should work.. be careful though with some products are actually not UNIVERSAL. I do take great care again to find out if people can use the Netgear with products from another brand. All wireless is voodoo .. wireless across brands is like voodoo plus plus.
My current Asus router is one of the best I have owned .. RT-AC66U.. far superior to what went before.
And I usually avoid dlink like the plague, but it is important to realise that amongst the dross there can still be specks of gold.

  • Airport Time Capsule 2TB - Problem with Backups

    Hello everybody,
I´m from Germany but I hope you understand my english. I have got a problem with my new Airport Time Capsule 2TB. I want to use it as a data storage, where all my pictures and videos are accessible via WIFI.
Copying the datas was no problem but now I want to make a backup of all the datas. For this purpose i created a RAID 0 out of two 1TB external hard drives. I connected the bay with these two hard drives in it with the Time Capsules USB interface. The problem is that no drives were displayed in the airport-programm ... Also non of my other USB hard drives were found. Only the Time Capsule´s partition "data" got found...
In the time machine program I can´t see the Time Capsule, so I can´t do a backup on the normal way... Even the "hard drive - program" from OS X didn´t show the Time Capsule.
It looks like they don´t want to know anything about each other ...
So, how can I realize to do a backup of the datas saved on my Time Capsule?
Thank you for your answers and sorry if my english is bad in some cases.

    Ok.. can understand..
You have two problems.. maybe 3.
    1. Time Machine (TM) does not work on network drives which includes Time Capsule.. so you simply cannot backup your pictures from a TC to a backup location using TM. It only works on locally connected drives.. you can use an alternative software like Carbon Copy Cloner .. I did check superduper but in the past it was not able to backup network source drives. You will need to check if the situation has improved.
    2. The Time Capsule will not accept raid array disks.. it must be a standard hard disk on a USB drive that it has drivers for.. and that is far from every model out there. So not all plain single USB disk works.. almost no array disks work.
    3. Your iphoto library if that is what you mean by pictures should not be on a network drive.. apple says it is going to be corrupted.
YMMV.. it is dangerous and only a matter of time.. if the pictures and videos are raw from camera that is fine.. it is only the iphoto (or aperture) library that is at risk.

  • ME177LL/A airport time capsule 2tb

This device (ME177LL/A airport time capsule 2tb) is arriving at my door shortly, and I have the following questions and hope you all could help:
Can I just attach it to my current network at home without doing anything tricky? I have an ISP router that I don't want to mess with unless I have to. Most non-apple routers have a WPS button to do this no?
Where is the configuration software? Is it all based inside the box and accessed via http, like a normal router?
In the case of Q1 above, if I knew how to change the MacID on the time capsule to match the ISP router, ie. spoof the ISP router, I could set it up as my main router, but I don't know how to do that with an apple router. Is it possible?
Assuming these things go well with MBAs, no? How will I know if I am connected via AC vs. N.
    Well, thx!!!
    coocoo

I am sorry but the answer is no to most of this.
Can I just attach it to my current network at home without doing anything tricky? I have an ISP router that I don't want to mess with unless I have to. Most non-apple routers have a WPS button to do this no?
You must plug the TC in by ethernet.. you cannot join the current modem with wireless without totally cripping of the TC.. it will become a dumb client with NO Wireless and NO ethernet.
There is no WPS button in a TC since it is designed to work as main router.. or at least by ethernet.
Where is the configuration software? Is it all based inside the box and accessed via http, like a normal router?
Configuration utility is airport utility available in your Mac. There is no http access.

Sorry this is not possible.. you cannot spoof MAC address on Apple routers.
Assuming these things go well with MBAs, no? How will I know if I am connected via AC vs. N.
The later AC model air will link at 800mbps or higher. N wireless has max link speed of 450mbps.
