How to use AppleTV to mirror my iMac?

Hi! I have just got an AppleTV and I am having troubles to use it to mirror my iMac screen
According to the instructions I should be using airplay which I only managed to activate on iTunes
The version of my iMac is mid 2011 which sould support airplay and thereby allow mirroring
Can anybody help?
Thanks
Valentina

Looking to your Mac OS X version, you don't have a compatible OS X version with AirPlay Mirroring (you need OS X Mountain Lion to get AirPlay Mirroring). See > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5404
You have two options:
1. Open the App Store and upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion. Make a backup of your data and check that your apps are compatible > http://www.roaringapps.com After upgrading, the AirPlay icon will appear in the menu bar.
2. Stay with Mac OS X Snow Leopard and use a third-party application as AirParrot > http://www.airparrot.com

Be on same network, apple id with homesharing on for ATV and Mac or iOS.  Always try a reboot of router and ATV with all cables out for 30 Seconds too.  Mirror icon should appear near clock IF you have a mid 2011 mac or newer (early 2011 for MBP) AND are running OSX 10.8 Mountain Lion or newer.
Oler mac or OS can 'mirror' with a third party app called airparrot.

  • Since loading IOS 7 I can't use AppleTV to mirror my iPad on Go To Meeting or Fuze. Any ideas to solve

I Use appletv to mirror my iPad Fuze meeting and Go to Meeting presentations. Since IOS7 I cannot see airplay when transmitting the presentation

From what I've ready, Fuze should already be compatible with iOS 7.
Have you tried restarting your iPad? Press and hold the Power and Home buttons simultaneously. Don't release until you see the Apple logo. Try again and see if that helps.
If not, try restarting your Apple TV and wireless router.
If all that fails, reset all your network settings on iPad. You will lose your passwords for Wifi, but you can easily enter those. Look in...
Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings
You will be asked for your passcode. Once reset, log back into your WiFi network and try again.

  • How do I improve Airplay mirroring? (iMac to AppleTV)

Airplay Mirroring was working great, and then the display quality really went down.  Text used to be quite clear, but now it's almost unreadable.  Nothing had changed with my setup, so I'm not sure why this is happened.
    Things I've tried:
    1. moving my router
    2. using ehternet rather than wireless on AppleTV
    3. switching to 5GHz network
Any ideas what might have happened?
    hardware:
    iMac 27" 2.7 GHz Intel i5
    latest AppleTV
most up to date software on both

It might have been the last appleTV update.  I can't recall when the update came out...
    iMac is almost idle.
I ran iStumbler, and my signal is at 69% with 9% noise.  There are no new sources of electromagnetic interference.
I'll add that when use airplay mirroring with my iPad2, the image is perfect
    Thanks

  • How to use a microphone with my iMac?

    Hi,
I recently purchased a headset to use in Ventrilo for communicating with my clients. I've plugged it into the line in and line out ports on the back. I can hear audio play just fine but when I select "Line In" as the input source in System Preferences, no sound is picked up.
From searching through Google, I'm lead to believe that the input port on the back of the iMac is expecting a stronger signal, such as the one generating by the output of most audio generating devices and the microphone's signal is too faint. Is that correct?
I see various $80+ Mac-compatible USB headsets out there but I just can't justify spending that much money on this project. If a regular headset won't work with the line in port, can anyone out there recommend a cheap headset that will work with my iMac? I'm not looking for fantastic sound, just legible voice communication.

You're correct: the line in jack needs to be fed from a mixer or hi-fi equipment: the output from a microphone is much too low. You have two easy options: one is simply to use the built-in microphone - the quality is usually quite clear and good enough for this sort of use. Or you could get a USB headset such as this one.

  • How can I wirelessly mirror my iMac to 3 different displays?

I work at a school and they have digital picture frames set up on 3 floors that just run a slide show of images stored on the attached USB drives, but they are horrible quality and one just broke. I'm trying to find a solution that will allow me to replace these digital picture frames with monitors that can be placed on each floor and all be running the same slide show mirrored from one computer, wirelessly.
At first I thought maybe just get apple TV boxes and use airplay to mirror the iMac, but I there has to be a better way, designed specifically for that purpose.
    What is the best solution?

For schools , most technicians connect these TVs to a computer via DVI or VGA and create a video of the pictures.
If you were to do this you could setup a simple FTP (File Transfer Protocol) server on your main computer with the video stored on it. Then use each of the client computers (Ones connected to the TVs) to play the video on a loop and update the video every time you want new pictures.
This would be reletivly cheap to setup if there are any old computers that are not in use that have LAN access.
If each computer had WLAN , you could connect them all together with a cheap router.

Which ever WP app you are using, most if not all have their own Help in their menus and/or tutorials.

    About AirPlay and Airplay Mirroring
AirPlay Mirroring requires a second-generation Apple TV or later, and is supported on the following Mac models: iMac (Mid 2011 or newer), Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer), MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer), and MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer). For non-qualifying Macs you can try using Air Parrot.

  • How Do I Add 2nd Monitor using AppleTV?

    I use a mid - 2012 Mac Pro; run Mavericks MacOS X 10.9.5.
    1. I would like to know how to connect my SONY TV as a second monitor wirelessly using AppleTV.
    2. Once 2nd monitor is connected:
    3. What do I do to use the cursor and keyboard on the 2nd monitor?
    4. How do I reply to an answered question for more info, or to thank someone?

    Hey again Angel,
    It is the latter:
If your Mac supports AirPlay Mirroring, an AirPlay Mirroring status icon appears in the menu bar when an Apple TV is on the same network as your Mac.
OS X Mavericks: Wirelessly mirror your Mac screen to your HDTV
    https://support.apple.com/kb/PH14375
So the AirPlay icon will only be seen on your Mac when an Apple TV is present on the same network as your Mac. You may also be interested in more information about AirPlay, which can be found here:

I will try that. Thank you.  I am hoping to buy a wifi hotspot, but wondered what type of data plan I should get if I were to use it consistantly for 8 hours a day (only on saturdays and sundays).  A great tool for work & presentations!!
It will use minimal internet bandwidth unless your content is streaming from web>iPad>AppleTV.
Local network comms for content already on the iPad (eg presentations) will not generally use internet bandwidth apart from protected iTunes material that requires brief internet authorisation.

  • How can I share printers using a non apple router, imac to ipad?

Newbie in osx, but experienced in linux.
My new imac has 3 printers setup for sharing, but ipad 2 / iphone 4 fail to see them.  I am using the belkin router that I owned already, instead of buying an Airport.
    I found a solution at askubuntu.com Q 26130 at http://askubuntu.com/questions/26130/how-can-share-my-printer-so-that-i-can-use- it-with-airprint
I setup a linux machine on the network, with no physical connection to any printer. The 1st, an hp fax psc has a usb to imac, as the 2nd, an hp psc, the 3rd printer is an epson wireless, which is only connected on the network by wifi to the belkin router. I'm certain the imac "sharing" is properly setup, because the linux machine has no trouble finding the printers.  Only the ipad / iphone have a problem.
Once I put the linux machine (with the above changes) on the network, everything works as desired.  I can print on the ipad / iphone to any of the 3 printers, using the built in Airport printer routine (not the epson or hp apps). And the imax and linux machines can also print on all 3.
So, I suspect the imac isn't telling the router to display the printers on the network in a way that iOS can see them. I know it would work if I owned an Airport, but I'd rather not spend that much right now.
I'm sure someone knowledgable in OSX might have an idea where to stick an Airport definition file, created from the python script in askubuntu, that could solve this without having to run the linux laptop all the time.  Any ideas?
    TIA

It's possible to use free software (Virtualbox and Ubuntu) to fix the broken iOS 5 Airprint printing with non supported printers.  Here's a fix that works on my imac, but should also work on even a windows pc.
My setup is a lion imac with 2 non-airprint supported usb printers attached, a belkin wifi router that provides network connectivity for my imac, ipad, and iphone.
Install ubuntu 11.10 in a virtualbox vm.  Specify to use the "Bridged Adapter" with "en1: WiFi (AirPort)" for the network hardware.  Make sure the imac's usb printers are setup with sharing.  On ubuntu, select System Settings > Printers and add your imac's shared printers to the list.  Then start ubuntu's firefox and set "localhost:631" in the address. On the administration tab, under the Server section, check "Share printers connected to this system" and hit Change Settings button to activate it.  Go back to ubuntu's printer setup, and right click on each printer and check that the properties Policies tab does not have any messages about it being unshared. If so, then go back to firefox and make sure the Server sharing checkbox is enabled. It may help to reboot.
Fire up virtualbox to be able to use AirPort printing to your imac's usb printers, when you want to print from the iphone or ipad. This also works on iOS 5.
Only problem is error message from iphone to check the printer for errors, even though it actually prints ok.

  • Okay so I set up my Time Capsule already and is now backing up 2 of my iMacs. Works great. What I want to know is how to use the TC to directly store files? I want to do this to delete some files but still have them on the TC for future reference..

Okay so I set up my Time Capsule already and is now backing up 2 of my iMacs. Works great. What I want to know is how to use the TC to directly store files? I want to do this to delete some files on iMac 20inch but still have them on the TC for future reference..eg some movies on iTunes. I want to directly save them on the drive so I can delete them from iTunes and gain some storage. (Ps on iMac 20 inch (it's almost full - 320 GB) when I enter time machine, a tab comes up on finder which reads "Time Machine backups" it's able to be ejected like a disc or a connected device. On the iMac 20 inch, I dragged some files onto there as if using it like a hard drive. Is this the correct method? Then I went to my 27inch iMac and saw the "Time Machine Backups" hoping to see the files I dragged from the 20inch iMac. But the files were not there except a folder that said "Backups.backupdb". Can someone help me?

It's not a good idea to use a network disk for both Time Machine backups and other things.  By design Time Machine will eventually consume all the space on its output disk, which will then cause problem for your other files.  I'd store those other files on an external disk connected to the Time Capsule.  The problem with that is that Time Machine will only back up files that are local to your Mac.  That means that you'll only have one copy of the files on or attached to your Time Capsule.
