How to use Clamshell mode in windows 7 via bootcamp

I have a 15" MBP, on SL, running bootcamp for Windows 7.  I need it for work, and doing mostly email and spread sheet.  I have set up like this
---MONITOR 1 ------------- MONITOR 2 ----------- MACBOOK
( USB TO VGA)      (DVI TO MINIDISPLAY)
I can extend my desktops to all three, and have made monitor 2 my "main desktop", and have changed power settings in the control panel for when i close the lid to "do nothing".  Yet when I close the lid on the MacBook to store it away, it turns off monitor 2, and reverts monitor 1 as main display.
Any one else run into the same problem?
Side note: my nVidia control panel says my drivers are up to date, but the only option on the left side is "stereotopic 3D" no other settings

  • How to get clamshell mode with Windows 7 on Macbook Pro?

    Hi,
I am running Windows 7 on Macbook Pro using bootcamp. In OS-X, I can use this cool clamshell feature wherein after putting the MBP to sleep by closing the lid, as soon as I connect an external keyboard, mouse & monitor, I get the display on the monitor and immediately start using the keyboard & mouse too, converting the laptop instantaneously to a desktop.
I am trying to do the same thing on Windows 7, close the lid of the laptop to put it to sleep, connect my external monitor, mouse & keyboard, but however the laptop never wakes up (even after moving the mouse & pressing keys in the keyboard). I tried several things in Windows 7. Under Power Options, Disabled "selective Suspend of USB", but that did not help. Next, in the "Device Manager", for the "Root USB Hub" & "Generic USB Hub", I tried to set "Allow this device to wake up the computer", under Properties -> Power Management, but that option is grayed out. I tried to experimented with Sleep types like S1, S2, S3, but except for S3, the other two are shown as "not supported by firmware" (using powercfg option in command line). Countless hours wasted on google search to get this working with no success
I would greatly appreciate any help on this issue.
    Thanks,
    Sri

    @mkultraviolent,
    Thanks for the quick reply.
That seems to be a useful workaround, but I do not find the option mentioned in Display/ Nvidia control panel. However, I find an option in the "Power Options" which has a "Do Nothing" option in the combo box to select what "Closing the Lid" does. Is that what u are referring to?
Also, one problem in this approach is, if we do not sleep when the display is closed, that will keep the internal display (laptop's display) running in clamshell mode even after the lid is closed? (which will heat up the laptop badly).
The exact option I am looking for is, while the laptop is in sleep & lid closed state, connecting the external keyboard/mouse/monitor and pressing a key in the keyboard or moving the mouse should wake the computer from sleep. If this happens, the internal display won't be running. I am able to achieve this in OS-X.
In Windows7, I have a workaround by which I can almost achieve this result, wherein, while the laptop is in lid-closed, sleeping state, after connecting the external devices (keyboard/mouse/monitor), I open the laptop's lid for a fraction of second, quickly move my finger over the touchpad & close the lid again. This wakes up the laptop, & while it is waking up, Windows realizes that the lid is closed and that external devices are connected and gets into clamshell mode (I have verified that in this state, the internal display is not running).
This workaround was fine so far, but I got this hengedocks docking station for my macbook, and I am no longer able to use the workaround, because, after plugging my macbook into the docking station, I cannot open the lid. So, the only option is to make Windows7 realize that external devices are connected & wake up on external keyboard stimuli (Hence the question).
If my question is not clear, this video kind of explains what I want to achieve:

What are the requirements for TDM?
A Mac notebook or desktop with a Mini DisplayPort or Thunderbolt connection
A Thunderbolt or Mini DisplayPort cable

These options might be dangerous. If someone who knew nothing about the program with this function and he uses this program, it might hurt his system. Since this, it would be better not to post this code in the forum to avoid someone tried the code and hurt
    his system.
    Thanks for your understanding.

  • Using MS Access 2010 on Windows via Bootcamp

Using MS Access 2010 on Windows via Bootcamp
I am wanting to do an online course which uses MS Access 2010. I am using an Apple Mac and thought I could use Bootcamp to set up a Windows partition to use the software.
My query is once I have created a database with MS Access 2010 in Windows on my mac, is the database essentially useless for my future mac work?
    Hope someone can help

I do think converting will end up being complicating. Do you know what Office for Mac is like, is it similar to MS Access? If so, I could do the course using MS Access and then buy Office for Mac and teach myself how to create databases using office.
As I mentioned there is no Access for Mac.  Microsoft never made one. Office for Mac includes Word, Excel, Powerpoint (and Outlook for the Business edition.)  And even these are missing some features of their Windows versions.  (e.g.: Excel macros often don't work on the Mac version of Excel.)
You can bring over your general knowlege of database programming (e.g.: relationships, joins, normalizing,) to any database product such as MSSQL, MySQL, Oracle Database, Filemaker, Alpha5, OpenOffice, etc.  But none of those other database products will open a database file made in Access.  (Or rather, may have very limited ability to open very simple databases, but you'll probably lose the relationship links.)  So your Access training won't be a total loss, but you'll need to learn the specifics of whatever database product you eventually use.

  • How to use 4GB RAM on Windows 2000

    Hi,
We use a third party application that parses weblogs and generates statistics.
The application gives OutOfMemory exception when the weblogs are hugs.
I am wondering if doing "editbin.exe /LARGEADDRESSAWARE java.exe" is going to help.
I have 4GB of physical RAM and I have /3GB in boot.ini in Windows 2000 Advanced Server.
    Thanks,
    Anurag.

How to use 4GB RAM on Windows 2000You are never going to use 4g on a windows box. The maximum addressable space is 4g. Normally the OS reserves 2g. Which means the maximum addressable space for an application is 2g.
It is supposed to be possible to increase the addressable space to 3 gig. And also increase the JVM space. However, there are risks. The following thread suggests a way to do this

  • Macbook Pro 2011 problem with windows via bootcamp

I have macbook pro early 2011  and my disk drive not working.
I tried to install windows via bootcamp by an external disk drive but it failed to boot from the windows install disk.
    how can i install it?

The Snow Leopard Windows drivers are on your Snow Leopard install disk. There is no download for Windows drivers and Snow Leopard.
You should include your computer model and year in your posts. Answers may vary depending on your hardware.
XP is not supported on newer Apple computers. You should install Windows 7.

  • Is installing Windows via bootcamp bad for my hardrive? (It crashed)

    Hello,
I purchased my new Macbook Pro 13" in January of this year, and my hardrive recently completely crashed. I was lucky enough to have Apple pay for a new hd, but I really want to know what caused it. The only thing I can think of that makes any sort of sense is that installing Windows via bootcamp screwed up the hardrive somehow and caused it to fail from getting worked too much from always restarting into Windows / having too much of my hd dedicated to Windows (150 gb of my 750gb SATA hd). I dont know if any of this makes sense, or if I just got really unlucky and got a bad hd from the factory. I have never physically damaged my macbook (like dropping it or whatever) and have never stored it in extremely hot or cold temperatures. The copy of Windows I installed was legit and everything....so I am scared to reinstall windows in fear that my hd will fail again
So my question is this...... is there any way that the bootcamp partition could have cause my hd to fail? Is it safe to go ahead and install windows again?
    Thank you for you time.

I have never heard of bootcamp causing hard drive failure. I think it is more likely that you were unlucky and ended up with a bad drive. Something like 1 in 100,000 fail, that 1 has to land on someone. If you are worried about bootcamping again I would recommend Parallels or VMWare Fusion. They are both excellent virtualization applications and offer a soft cap on the windows partition size because it is a file kept inside of OSX instead of a physical partition. I have been running Parallels for 6 months with no problems.

  • Problem booting after failed Windows (via Bootcamp) installation

    Good Day,
yesterday i recieved my brand new 21" iMac.
I wanted to install Windows via Bootcamp. I partitioned the Harddrive, started the installation and when Windows setup came to the point where it has to reboot (after copying the necessary files to the harddrive during the part of the setup process with the blue screen), it said something like "disc error, press any key to boot from CD. Nothing happend and the only way to start the computer was while holding down the ALT key and selecting the Macintosh disc.
I deleted the bootcamp partition, but still my computer wants to boot windows giving me the "disc error" message. Everytime i have to start the computer holding the ALT key to boot into OSX (it only shows me the Macintosh drive, no more windows drive to select).
    Who can help?
    Thanks!

It is a common error, which i've faced too.
Did you formatted the windows partition when into xp/vista/7 installation?
Boot Camp assistant only partition the hard drive, but you will have to format the windows partition yourself before installing, or you'll get that error when trying to boot/reboot in windows after installation.
You'll just have to start your iMac with the Windows CD/DVD, and redo the installation, this time formatting the partition (not with the fast format option).
    Best regards!

  • Used 60 GB for Windows partition (BOOTCAMP) had less than 25GB free after instalation

Installed windows on bootcamp on my 2012 Retina MacBook Pro (256 SSD). I used 60 GB for Windows partition (BOOTCAMP) had only about 25 GB free after instalation. Why?
If I look at the size of all the folders inside BOOTCAMP it adds up to 17 GB. Where did almost 20 GB go?
I'd truly appreciate any help with this.
    Thank you,
    Matej

Look for two files.  pagefile.sys and hibernation.sys...these are used as swap space and ram sleep image respectively.  You can limit the first as suggested and turn the later off.

    Hi,
I tried to install nvedia Grapics Driver in windows 8.1, but it was neither installed properly instead it just made my display goes blank, just shows the mouse cursor thats it.
    similar to this issue
    http://www.eightforums.com/general-support/35869-windows-8-1-impossible-get-into-safe-mode.html
I log in to windows using safe mode and tried to uninstall the graphics driver it said that all dll's will be removed and I uninstalled it and restarted the windows, initially it got started but then within 2 mins it says those dll files are missing n gives
    the same issue.
Then When I again login to safe mode, I see that the drivers are still showing installed don't know what to do now.
Can you give my any solutions.
As I'm facing alot of issue now.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
How did you uninstall the graphics drvier? From Devices manager or Programs and Features?
Please open Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Programs and Features
And then, search for "NVIDIA Graphics Driver" and then select the "Change/Remove" button to begin the uninstall process.
Next, once the uninstall has completed, reboot Windows so that the other NVIDIA components can be removed as well.
If the issue still persists, since this driver that you recently installed caused problems with your PC, you can restore Windows back to an earlier point in time.

  • How to use trackpad gestures with Windows 8 Developer Preview?

I have installed a Windows 8 Developer Preview on my MacBook via BootCamp Assistant. I found that it isn't support the trackpad gestures! (ex: two-fingers tap to right-click)
So how can I use the trackpad gestures with Windows 8?
    Thank you for all reply.

The BootCamp drivers that you can download and burn to a disc via the Boot Camp application in Mac OS can be installed in Windows 8 (run setup.exe from the disc while in Windows 8, preferably by right-clicking and choosing "Run as Administrator") and will allow you to use all of the current features of the touchpad (including two finger clicking/tapping).  Once you have installed the drivers as described above, you can then click on the arrow in the System Tray and right-click on the black triangle that is for the BootCamp control panel. In those settings you can change how the touchpad responds to your taps, clicks, etc.

  • Problem using clamshell mode with 2010 Macbook Pro

I'm trying to use my mid 2010 Macbook Pro in clamshell mode with my Sanyo TV as a monitor. I have an external keyboard and mouse and I keep it plugged in when trying to do this. I have tried with mirrored and seperate displays, both with the TV as secondary and primary display, and whenever I close the lid the TV suddenly says that the input resolution has changed and is out of the range of the TV. I have tried changing the resolution on both the TV and computer when both displays are active and it has made no difference. Is there a way to make this work or a way to keep the computer from changing the output resolution when I close the lid?

I have discovered that the issue is that the computer won't wake from sleep mode. I still have no idea what the problem is but it also occurs if I put the computer to sleep with the display open.
