How to use Home Hub 3 as a 2nd router(access point...

Hi guys hope you can help; I am trying to add my Home Hub 3 as a 2nd router (ie an access point) to my home network and struggling.
What am I trying to achieve.
I have a fully functioning home network which is working great but the wireless range does not extend to the room above my garage, some distance away from the main house. I currently service it with an Ethernet link from my E4200 router, via the mains wiring, to link to a PS3 there. But I want to extend this to have a wireless network in the remote room so I can link multiple devices - rather than spend more money, deploying a 2nd router which I already have  is preferable.
What have I got.
I have a Linksys E4200 router (nice piece of kit) attached to my ADSL line via a Belkin N1 wireless modem-router set to  “modem only” mode (I was using a DSL modem until yesterday but that went AWOL and digging out the Belkin router I saw that it had a modem only function – and it/they worked first time )
All of my gear in the house is attached wirelessly to the E4200 which is delivering circa 11.5mbps from a maximum of 12.5mbps for the line measured by BT onsite. So  all is  fine there.
What have I done to try and use the HH3
Linked an Ethernet cable between one of the Ethernet ports on the E4200 to a mains plug.
Linked an Ethernet cable from a mains plug to one of the Ethernet ports on the HH3 router.
Ie as the PS3 was linked.
3.  Switched on the HH3 router: the power light is solid blue, the wireless light is solid blue, the broadband light is off
4. Connected my laptop to the HH3 network and loading up a web page on IE9 displays a web page from bthomehub.home/etc etc with title BT Home Hub and a message “Can’t connect to Broadband”. It is the start of a self- diagnostic routine. Answering all the questions I eventually get a Home Hub Administrative Home Page displayed.
Is there a quicker way of getting to this admin page??
5.  I switched off DHCP
I changed the IP address from 192.168.1.254 to 192.168.1.200 as this seems to be what the other threads on this subject did.
When I went to apply the change a message came up telling me that I might not be able to access the HH3. I ploughed on disregarding this and needless to say I could not then access the HH3 via the web interface and trying to access a web site nothing happened.
6.  I did a hardware reset on the HH3
7. Going through the motions again, when I got to the admin pages again, I switched off DHCP and this time left the IP address alone, ie 192.168.1.254.
When I went to apply this  I got the message
“After changing these settings you will need to renew the IP address of all devices connecting to your BT Home Hub. Please follow the instructions provided with your devices.”
I applied the change – but have not yet done any fooling around with IP addresses on my laptop because I don’t want to start mucking around with my laptop
I then tried to access a website, and failed, but on this occasion rather than nothing happening, the Home Hub website came up  again displaying the error message page.
And that is where I stand. All looks so easy when reading other threads on this and other forums but it is not working for me.
Any help greatly appreciated.
The IP settings on the E4200 are
IP  192.168.1.1
Range  192.168.1.100  to 192.168.1.149
Also connection type on the E4200 is POE not POA – as far as I  recall that is what it needed to be to connect to the DSL modem and work.

Thanks for the speedy reply!
I have actually came across this page before - I seem to hit a snag when I connect the repeater hub (my HH3).  As outlined, I have at all times kept the repeater hub connected via ehternet into one of the regular LAN ports to my main HH5.
But when I connect my laptop to the repeat hub (HH3), I am actually connected to the internet somehow (I assuem using the HH5 network) but under my network connections it says I am connected to the HH3.  As a result, when I go to the homehub settings page 192.168.1.254, it brings me to the main HH5 settings page and not the repeater HH3.
According to the instructions it says I should "Ignore the not connected page", but I am connected and I cant seem to alter any of the settings on my HH3 while it is connected to the HH5.
Any other pointers?
Thanks!

  • Home hub 3 as second router (access point) - anyon...

Hi all, I have my infinty connection from the modem to a netgear wndr4500 cable router. I am trying to get a better signal upstairs but using the home hub 3 as a secondary router / wifi point (connected to the netgear with homeplugs). I have done all the necessary changes such as disabling dhcp on the hh3 and changing its ip address to one on the same network as the netgear but outside of its dhcp range (192.168.1.254). uPnP is enabled on both routers. I can log into the settings page on the hh3 and it even tells me the list of devices on the network in its network diagram (all connected via the netgear). I can connect the hh3 wirelessly but cannot reach the Internet. Anyone help me out? Edit: since typing this I cannot connect to the hh3 wirelessly anymore as it will not assign an ip address. Oh and Ethernet cable is LAN port to LAN port.

    Thanks Keith for the guide.
Once I printed it, I just walked myself through and it appears to have worked!  This morning I had a few concerns about accessing a network storage area connected to the main hub, from the slave, but my concerns were unfounded.  I found the same with the printer.  Without the slaved access, the printer's wifi connectivity throughout the house was patchy.  Connected to the slave, it seems back to a solid thing again.
Now just the Sure Signal to sort out.  Does anyone have experience with Sure Signals and this sort of arrangement?  I acutally think the issue with that is the HH5, rather than the master/slave arrangement.

  • Can't figure out how to use home sharing

Since the latest couple iTunes updates, my family and I can not figure out how to use home sharing. Everyone in our household has their own iTunes, and for a long time we would just share our music through home sharing. But with the updates, so much has changed that we can no longer figure out how to use it.
I have a lot of purchased albums on another laptop in the house, that im trying to move it all over to my own iTunes, and I have spent a long time searching the internet, and everything. And I just can't figure out how to do it. So.... how does it work now? I would really like to get these albums from my moms iTunes, onto mine. I would hate to have to buy them all over again.
If anyone is able to help me out here, that would be great! Thanks!

The problem im having is that after I am in another library through home sharing, I can't figure out how to select an album and import it to my library. They used to have it set up so that you just highlight all of the songs you want, and then all you had to do was click import. Now I don't even see an import button, or anything else like it. So im lost... I don't know if it's something im doing wrong, or if our home sharing system just isn't working properly.
    Thanks for the help.

How to Use Home+End Key on new short usb apple keyboard on XP
now i use macbook and new short apple keyboard.
    it hasn't Home and End key. i try to use Fn + -> , Fn + <-
it cann't do that. How can i set the Fn + <- be Home key
and Fn + -> be End key like on my macbook keyboard
    thank you for answer

Easy, no need to be harsh. I might not be a Level 9  Discussions user, but I’ve been an Apple Technician for more than a decade now. So believe me, I know what I’m talking about. Be it OS X Server or emptying the Trash. But even I come here from time to time to learn from others. Well, back to topic and being a little more specific:
The 'My Info' setting always belongs to the first iCloud account you add to an iOS device. In this account you create at least 1 contact, the one you will be using for 'My Info'. You then do the same on your other iOS device using NOT the same iCloud account, of course. You only need to enable contacts syncing in iCloud preferences for these primary accounts. From here on you can use differing 'My Info' on your 2 iOS devices without a problem.
But you may know that you can use more than one iCloud account at a time. Only the primary one will offer all iCloud options like Photostream. But what they all offer is contacts, calendars, etc. So if you intend (and I did) to share these 2 between your devices you can add them using a second iCloud account to both of your iOS devices. This makes it 3 accounts all in all. You could even go further and add another one just for 'Find my iPhone' if you like.
I would’ve used the built-in sharing of Calendar.app instead, but Contacts.app does not (yet) offer sharing contacts with others. That’s why I went with the third iCloud account as a secondary account to both iOS devices.
Apple of course recommends using just one Apple ID for everything to make it easier. But in some scenarios this just won’t cut it, which is even described in one of their support documents.
I hope that now you have an idea what I’ve done…
    Good night
    Björn
PS: It would be nice if people did not insist on being right. They too can sometimes learn something!

  • Using the Aiport Express as a Wireless Access Point on Windows XP

I would like to use my airport express as a wireless access point so that it will connect wirelessly to my router and via an Ethernet cable to my laptop that does not have a wireless card. Also, I have a laptop that I don't have admin rights to, so I can't install the airport express software. I do have another computer in which I am able to set things up on, but ultimately I would like to use the Ethernet port on the airport express as a DHCP device that once configured it will automatically connect to my laptop even after powering off and on any machine with DHCP. I believe that this can be done - but correct me if I am wrong.
So far, I have been able to get the airport express to connect to my router, but I can't seem to get the intenet connection on my laptop. Can someone help? Does the software have to be installed to work even after it is configured?
    Thanks!

I have successfully gotten my AX to connect to my wireless router via the wireless client mode, but I can't seem to get the network connection to come out the either net jack of the AX.
Unfortunately, the wireless client mode will not activate the Ethernet port. The purpose of this mode is to connect to an existing wireless network as a client (just like any other device connecting to the network) and be able to either/or stream iTunes or share a USB printer.
The only mode where the Ethernet port is enabled, would be to configure the AX as either a relay or remote base station in a Wireless Distribution System (WDS). But, unfortunately, your Belkin wireless router may not be WDS-compatible with the AirPorts.
Again, the only Belkin routers, that I'm aware of that are compatible are the F5D7230-4 & F5D7130.

  • How to return Home Hub 2

Joined BT Total Broadband a few weeks ago and due to BT cancelling my original order and then initiating a new order, I received two Home Hubs.
I installed one and need to return the other, at BT's expense. I can find no information on how this should be done. Help Desk say information is contained in the package, but it is not.
Can Mods help please?  A freepost address or a prepaid returns envelope would be most useful.
    Thanks

Hey,  Home Hubs are usually supplied with a pre-paid plastic envelope contained within the shrink-wrap covering the box.  Failing that just call 150 and select the options for orders and advisors and they'll send a baggy out.  It's not unusual to get duplicate kit, I once knew a guy who received four within a couple of days!

  • Faxing using home hub 3

Not sure if this is possible. My set up is Home hub 3 running BT Infinity, computer wirelessly connected. (excellent service managing 35M average).
Can I use the computer to send an occassional fax using the home hub. If so how do I set it up?

I got on to BT and told them of the problem, the lady I spoke to kept saying that it was my Printer/Fax Machine that was at fault. I was talking to her for over an hour trying to explain that a fax machine is basically a phone that sends data over the phone line. I was eventually past on to someone else and had to explain it all over again. He was quite helpful and tested the line while I was doing a fax test and told me to do several tests with the fax machine and to do speed tests as well to see if the broadband speed drops and that he would ring back in the morning. When he rang back I told him that I had the same problem of the DSL light on the router going off then flickering when I pluged in a corded phone. He passed me on to someone else to book an engineer to check the wiring, but the person I then spoke to wouldn't have it that the installition of infinity could have been wired incorrectly and said that if they sent an engineer that I would be charged £90. I told her to forget it. I have had enough of BT broadband and the messing around I've had over the past year so when my contract comes to an end in March I will be switching to a cable company for my broadband so then I will be able to use my fax machine without affecting the broadband connection.
Thanks for all your help, it's just a shame that I couldn't get any from BT.

  • Using Home Hub 4 with TalkTalk after contract

    Hi all,
Sorry if this is an FAQ, couldn't find clarification elsewhere on the forum. Basically I've relocated to my parents' home after living away for work for a while. My housemates and I were in a contract with BT for over a year at my old place, but I now wish to use the supplied Home Hub 4 on my parents' TalkTalk connection; it's simply a better piece of kit than TalkTalk's given router. Will I be able to do this without the BT police knocking on my door or dead contracts being revived etc? Many thanks in advance

if you have bought the hub from Bt and it is a HH4r then that is unlocked and will work with any ISP otherwise the hubs are locked to BT

Make sure your PC and iOS device(s) are running under the same network.
All devices must have home sharing enabled and all should be signed in using the same apple id and password.
After that is confirmed, using the music app and under the "more" option, you should find the "Shared" link.
    Then choose your music library
