How to use iCloud for documents

This is what Apple should tell you, but won't.
iCloud automatically keeps your documents up to date across all your devices. (Important exceptions apply, additional requirements sold separately)
iCloud is already seamlessly integrated with the Apple iWork apps for your iOS devices — Pages, Keynote, and Numbers. And we’ve given developers the tools to make their apps work with iCloud, too. So you can do things like paint a masterpiece, edit stock lists, and more — and have it all with you on all your devices, including your Mac or PC.
This is blatantly misleading. Read on.
iCloud makes it easy to move Pages, Keynote, and Numbers documents between your computer and your iOS devices. Just sign in to icloud.com/iwork in any modern web browser, and all your iWork for iOS documents will be there — complete with your most recent edits.
Unless the most recent edits were done on your personal computer. Then you have just downloaded an out of date version unless you first uploaded the version from your computer the last time you worked on it.
Click a document to download it in iWork ’09, Microsoft Office, or PDF format. You can also drag and drop any iWork ’09 or Microsoft Office document from your computer into one of the iWork apps (SOLD SEPARATELY) on icloud.com, and it automatically appears on all your iOS devices (note: this does not include your personal computer), ready for you to review, edit, or present.

Thanks Bob, that was my intent but I could find a forum for every Apple product and software imaginable...except iCloud. I'll repost it there.
The point is, my post is correct. Apple intentionally makes the highlight of of their pitch "iCloud automatically keeps your documents up to date across all your devices." Which is not true. Key words are, "automatic" and "all devices". My computer is not a device then.
Most of the text of my post is from Apple's website about iCloud. The important points of how to make it actually work are added by me gleaned from various sources.
For a company that prides itself on stuff that "just works", this doesn't and to make it worse, they fail to explain exactly how to make it work. And don't even get me started on the multiple Apple ID debacle that Apple forced upon all former MobileMe users just to further complicate the issue.
Thanks for the heads up about the proper forum.

  • How to use icloud for calendars

All of a sudden my calendar dates are not going to my iphone anymore.  Well some did and then I had to manually enter them in my phone then there were duplicates and I dont know which claendars are applicable.  Should I select all calendars or Icloud calendars??  I am up to date on all software and the latest operating system but icloud has confused me no end!! is there a easy way???

Only the iCloud calendars are synced with your iCloud account, and via iCloud, to your phone.  Copy the missing calendar events to your iCloud calendar, then you can deselect the other calendars and you should see duplicates any more.

  • How can I use iCloud for storage without duplication problems?

I recently set up iCloud to use on my Mac and PC.  With the exception of a single data file that I have stored in the cloud (as a working data file) that I use both on my Mac and PC....I want to use the rest of my 20 gigs of space on iCloud for storage/backup purposes only.  However, I have very little experience with iCloud; and it doesn't seem entirely intuitive to use iCloud.
For example, if I store all of my music and pictures on iCloud, how do I stop Itunes and iphoto from duplicating the results of each music and picture file in those programs?  I ask this question because I have seen iTunes act up way too many times (in other circumstances) when it creates duplicate music files.
Just to be clear, I want everything to remain on my local hard drive.  I only want to use iCloud for storage/backup only.  So, again, how do I stop iTunes and iPhoto from reading music and photo files once I successfully get them on iCloud?  (I am thinking I have to hide the archived files once I get them in iCloud, but unsure about how I go about doing that).  And here's my second question.  To upload my personal music and picture files to iCloud, can I simply drag and drop them into the iCloud drive on my computer and assume they will be successfully uploaded?
My second question seems kind of basic too.  But, once again, iCloud does not seem entirely intuitive to use for a beginner.  For example, I recently purchased some music from the Itunes store.  And while I have it downloaded on my harddrive (like I wanted it)......I don't see it on the iCloud drive (on my computer)....nor do I see it when I log into icloud.com on the web site.  Thanks for any replies.

If you have a Mac signed into your account running iPhoto, you might want to check iPhoto>Preferences>iCloud to make sure Automatic Upload isn't checked.  If it is checked, all new photos added to iPhoto are automatically added to your photo stream.

  • I am using MS Office 2010 and Windows XP Professional, can I use iCloud for backup of my files and documents?

I am using MS Office 2010 and Windows XP Professional, can I use iCloud for backup of my files and documents? I am planning to transition to a Mac so using the iCloud seems to make the most sence.

No, it is not a backup method at all.  If you delete a sync'd file on any device, you delete it permanently from iCloud.  That by its very essence is not a backup solution therefore.  A backup solution does not automatically and simultaneiously delete the file everywhere when it is deleted from the original source.
iCloud is strictly a syncronization tool for using files on multiple internet connected devices.

  • Can i use iCloud for pages documents iMac?

can i use iCloud for pages documents iMac?

    Hi lmdavis72,
    It looks like you can.
From "iCloud: Documents in the Cloud overview"
You can download a document from icloud.com/iwork to your Mac or Windows computer, edit it, and then drag the revised version to icloud.com/iwork. It’s then automatically updated on all of your iOS devices. You can also drag an iWork ’09 (Keynote, Pages, and Numbers) or Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, and Excel) document created on your computer to icloud.com/iwork.
So it looks like it can go between iOS devices and your iMac.

  • Ai changed my email for my apple id, but i can't change my iCloud ccount because i can't remember my old password, and now i need to use iCloud for my new IPhone but it isn't working, how do i fix that?

i changed my email for my apple id, but i can't change my iCloud  account because i can't remember my old password, and now i need to use iCloud for my new IPhone but it isn't working, how do i fix that?

If the old ID is yours, and if your new ID was created by editing the details of this old ID (rather than being an entirely new ID), go to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iDevice, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll.  When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

  • How do I get my contacts to sync using iCloud for iPhone and iPad.

I can sync my pictures using icloud on my iPhone and my iPad however when I try to do the same for contacts having no luck. Also when I type a callander event on my iPad it comes up on my phone however when I type entry on iPad on calendar it does not come up on my phone.. Can anyone help.

Yes I agree with iamjeremie above. I am a newbie and had some trouble with this myself over last few days but now sorted.
You can also select existing cal entries, edit them and change calendar to correct one (iCloud cal in your case). Yes you need to set iCloud cal as default in settings. Also it may be worth disabling other unused or unwanted calendars in other accounts if you only want to use iCloud. Make sure to accept the prompt and save existing entries to device when disabling accounts so you do not loose or switch off your existing entries. Less confusing that way. Remember you can change entries to another cal in the future if you wish.
Keep it simple. I now have 2 calendars set up on iPhone and one on iPad.
Exchange cal for work. On exchange server at work and work stuff syncs with windows PC and server at work.
Hotmail cal for personal stuff that syncs with work iPhone, home PC and personal iPad.
I would have used iCloud for all but work iPhone and personal iPad are on separate iCloud accounts.
This was a work around and works great for me and enables me to enter synced personal cal entries on my work iPhone.

  • HT204161 I want to use iCloud for every thing else except for Messages. I do not want to send an iMessage and receive it on both my iPhone and Mac.

I want to use iCloud for every thing else except for Messages. I do not want to send an iMessage and receive it on both my iPhone and Mac.
    How do I do that?

    Howdy kingtonz,
If I understand you correctly, you want to limit to limit your use of the Messages application to non-iCloud sources such as text messaging through your phone carrier, is that right?
You can turn off the use of iMessages in Settings > Messages > iMessage. See this help article -
    Messages settings - iPhone
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

  • HT4847 How to use iCloud as virtual storage

Sorry for my ignorance but does anyone know how to use iCloud as virtual storage for music n photos that I don't want on almost full iPhone? I have an iPad too and don't mind if these items are on there. Thx!

You can't. It doesn't have an option that allows you to not have a copy of the data on your Mac. You can make the suggestion to Apple at https://www.apple.com/feedback/icloud.html

  • So when I try to update or download an app it says I don't have enough storage. I don't know how to use iCloud and stuff soo what do I do? Help! I don't wanna delete any pics either.

  • TS4006 Can someone please tell me how I use icloud to find my ipad

Can someone please tell me how to use iCloud to find my iPad and lock it out as well?

Simple I was led to believe I could store stuff in iCloud without the need for a Mac thereby making space on my laptop. You live and learn.
You can, iPhones/iPads and Macs work, as do PC's once there is an open account.
This is typical Apple to be honest. The only reason I use iTunes is for my iPod. Perhaps I need to find another mp3 player.
You do not need iCloud for iTunes, I am sorry that you misunderstand but iCloud and iTunes do not require each other.
I'm certainly not paying the inflated prices that Apple charge for their laptops that are quite frankly no better than my Dell.
I've had Dells, they are worth what you pay, no more.

    hi
    Quality Agreement;
Quality aggrement document type is used in Quality Info Record. If you maintain control key regarding Qaulity Aggrement you must maintain the Qaulity agg otherwise PO or GR wil be blocked.
    Technical delivery:
Technical dele term are maintained in Material master-->additional data -->documents.
if you select the control key which has reference of Technical dele term you have to maintain this in MM otherwise PO or GR will be blocked.

  • HT201317 To use iCloud for photo storage do I have to share all images between devices?

How to use iCloud to backup photos?

You can't. iCloud is not a photo backup service.
It can be used as a conduit for transferring the last 1000 photos between devices and your computer for 30 days.
