How to use iMessage better. - Issues

I want to send a group message and is there a easy way of selecting all the contacts in one go?
Why does deleted iMessages on the iPhone reappear on the iPad? It starts downloading all the history all over again? I want it sync only the unread messages, not the deleted ones.

just send that person a text.   about imessage http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3529

  • Syncing issue - formerly used iMessage Beta on Mac

    Hello,
    I have a MBP, a iPhone 4 and previously had the iMessage Beta app on my Mac prior to the upgrade to Mountain Lion... Nothing syncs.  I'm very disappointed with Apple on this; for me, the main downfall of Macs is that when things don't work it's nigh on imposible to resolve it by tinkering on your own and always have to resort to forums, the store.
    Anyway, I was hoping someone could help:
    Messages on my iPhone won't sync with my Mac however I've seen a message sent from my Mac has appeared on my phone... I'm using my Apple ID as the account in Messages settings on my phone, no other email accounts are linked to it.  My number is set as my caller ID in messages settings and I would like to keep it like that to avoid my friends and work colleagues suddenly receving messages from an email account as opposed to my phone number.
    On my Mac, I only have an iMessage account using my Apple ID (guessing configured from before the upgrade?).  iMessage Beta from before my upgrade never worked for me. The same Apple ID is used on my phone, and for iCloud.
    Weirdly, Reminders has synced fine, but Notes hasn't synced.
    If anyone can help, it'd be hugely appreciated - the Cloud syncing was the only reason I paid for the upgrade, and at the moment it's about as useful as a chocolate fireguard!
    Cheers,
    Mark.

    Okay - quick update:
    Changing my Caller ID to my email makes it work for Messages and Notes... This is no good IMHO and is a very poor user experience as a conversation switching from my phone to my mac via Messages will be seen as two threads from the perspective of the recipient.
    Both Messages and Notes do not sync old content, only new... Again, a very poor user experience as the same content is already backed up onto the Cloud.
    For me, I'll be going back to using trusty old Skype, Google Calendars, Dropbox etc.  I don't know how this update has been heralded as something awesome: We already had most this cloud type functionality with 3rd parties who offer cleaner, more simplistic, open-for-all services.
    I know it's tabboo to say, but I've had this mac for a year now, am a technical person by trade, but think that once the allure of how cool Macs are wears off, they're actually quite ****... Unless someone can prove me wrong and show me how to fix these two issues?!
    Cheers,
    Mark.

  • Need Help Understanding How To Use iMessage Between Two iPhones

    I have an iPhone 4 and my wife an iPhone 3GS.  We both have iOS 5, but I have discovered something about iMessage I need to make sure I understand correctly.  As I understand it iMessage can send text even if our voice carrier service is unavailable.  I tend to loose signal inside the building I work in.  I usually can get texts in and out, but sometimes not.  But in testing the two phones sending iMessages, I've noticed is that if I have one of the phones with iMessage turned on and the other with iMessage turned off, the two phones will not be able to exchange text.  Is that how it's supposed to work?  Even though one of these phones can receive an iMessage doesn't mean the other one send one back.  Can't the system detect when one phone is connected and another one not, and the one that is not gets sent SMS messages instead?  I don't want to try to send my wife an iMessage because I can't get a voice signal in my building, but her have iMessages turned off and not able to get any messages from me, iMessage or SMS.  I guess I need help better understanding how this actually works between the two phones so I can always get texts back and forth between my wife and I.  My other misgiving is that this iMessage thing consumes my data limit.  My wife gets unlimited because she had her phone before the limits were imposed, but I got on board after, so I am hesitant to use iMessage all the time because of it.  I have no intention to send picture mail through iMessage, but the thing is if I wanted to switch to SMS to send picture mail to save data, but my wife's phone is set to iMessage, she won't get it.  If this is how this thing is supposed to work, I'm not really impressed.  Some insight would be appreciated

    I think you are making this way too complicated. Why are you turning iMessage off? If you are at your office connect to the WiFi there and send your wife messages that way (unless your office is blocking the port iMessage uses). When possible the two phones will use iMessage but will revert to SMS is iMessage is not available if that option is set that way.
    I would not worry about using up your data plan if you have the 2GB, text iMessages are going to be very small and MMS (picture) ones are not very large either. Unless you are sending hundreds of picture iMessages a day you will have a hard time using up your data.
    If you are near an Apple Store you should explore signing up for an intro iPhone course and have them run through iMessage options.

  • How to use iMessage for all the iOS devices registered on one apple ID

    I have 5 iOS device for my family on my appleID. But I want have different ID to use iMessage for all devices. Is it possible? How?

    Sign in with whatever Apple ID desired on the device in iMessage setup.
    This has no affect on the Apple ID used for store purchases or iCloud.

  • How to use iMessage on Mac with continuity?

    Hi,
    Recently started using continuity on my iPhone 6 and iMac (Late 2013 running Yosemite).
    When I use iMessage on my mac i can easily send texts to new numbers that are not similar to my contacts, but in fact, if a new number i enter is similar to anything in my contacts it will auto suggest it and correct it to one of the contact suggestion whether i like it or not!
    According to the picture, i can never send a message to 204 as iMessage will auto correct it to the first suggestion or the second.
    Is this just another glitch like the 1000 other ones that apple has? Or am i just doing something stupid?
    I can send a text to 205 as i do not have any similar contacts associated with those digits.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    It will suggest and look like it will auto-complete until you type further.
    As 204 is unlikely to be the full number the issue does not arise.
    For instance if I start typing my name every option that I have listed with my name over three Contacts card (for my three computers) and some Accounts not linked to Address Cards are listed
    Of course this lists also shows cross connections between the accounts making the list longer.

  • TS4268 How to use iMessage with 1 apple idea across 3 devices (iMac, 2 iPads)?

    I am using iMessage across 3 devices with 1 apple id. This has worked sofar. Currently the iPad 3 refuses to accept the apple I'd. How can I solve this?

    Dear AnaMusic,
    Actually it did not solve my problem. But I probably did not explain it correctly. I want all my devices to get the same messages. At home I have an Imac and an Ipad and then i use one ipad at work. They were set up with one Apple Id and used to work perfectly on that id. However suddenly the Ipad at work rejected the apple id  and I thus do not get any messages. The Imac also stays inactive. I have checked the apple id and nothing is wrong. It all works well. Except imessage no longer functions. Any suggestions?

  • How to use iMessage

    I just downloaded Mountain Lion.  So far everyting is working ok but I don't know if I am using iMessage correctly.
    If I am sending an iMessage to my wife at her apple ID (on her iPhone), it goes to her account.  It does not go to my apple ID (on my iPhone).  I am sending it from my Mac and it shows up there.  If I send an iMessage from my iPhone it goes to her iPhone but not to my Mac. I sorta got it working but not sure if this is the way it should work.  This is what I am doing:
    On my Mac in the To section I put her name and my name.  When I send the iMessage it does go to both her iPhone and my iPhone. On my iPhone i do the same her name and my name and the iMessage goes to both her iPhone and the Mac.
    Is this the way it is suppose to work
    I look forward to hearing from you.

    Here's the article describing in detail how iMessage works:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5395
    I believe when you send a message to, say, your wife, it should behave as you describe -- it would go to all her devices and none of your other devices.  If she were to reply, however, that would send the message to all your devices.

  • How to use iMessages with icloud account

    Hi,
    I'm thinking about using iMessages on my Mac. Is it possible to use my icloud account (@me.com) for it and not my apple ID?
    Thank you for your help.
    Regards

    An icloud account IS your apple ID. you need an apple id to have icloud mail. simply log in using the apple id and use your icloud mail. when it asks you what email to use to recieve messages, enter your icloud mail.

  • Singletons - How to use it better?

    The web application has Actions <--> Services <--> Implementations. The user comes to the UI, changes some settings (pagination size, show/hide properties), and these settings are saved in an XML file. The XML file is read/written by a 'UIConfiguration' class and settings are stored as a bean. My singleton 'ConfigService' instantiates this UIConfiguration. The code is like this (how do I post code here?)
    public class ConfigService {
    private Configuration uiConfiguration;
    private static ConfigService instance = null;
    private Map<String, ConfigBean> uiConfig;
    private ConfigService(){
    init();
    private void init(){
    uiConfiguration = new UIConfiguration();
    try {
    uiConfig = uiConfiguration.getConfigurations();
    } catch (Exception e) {
    public String getServerUrl(){
    return "http://"+ uiConfig.get("server.hostname").getValue()
    + ":" + uiConfig.get("server.port").getValue();
    public String getUIProperty(String propertyName){
    return uiConfig.get(propertyName).getValue();
    public static ConfigService getInstance(){
    if(instance == null)
    instance = new ConfigService();
    return instance;
    public void updateUIConfig(Map<String, ConfigBean> configs){
    uiConfig = configs;
    public Map<String, ConfigBean> getAllUIProperties(){
    return uiConfig;
    **Things that I think that I am not doing right are:* *
    1. I have ConfigService.getInstance() in the contextlistener.
    2. Also, everywhere in the application I do ConfigService.getInstance() whereever I need a UI property.
    3. I do ConfigService.getInstance().updateUIConfig(configurations) in my UIConfiguration class when I update the properties.
    Is this a right way to do this? Is there any better/clean way of doing this. I also use Spring to inject services into my action classes. Can that help to better the behavior anyhow?
    Please help me here.

    3. I do ConfigService.getInstance().updateUIConfig(configurations) in my UIConfiguration class when I update the properties. There's nothing necessarily wrong with either of those.
    On the other hand, if you have a lot of getInstance() calls in the same method or class, you might want to make a local or member variable and just assign it once, rather than repeatedly calling the method. This would be more for simplicity and clarity, but if you have a lot of activity there across many threads, it's possible that lock contention (if you go with lazy instantiation and a synchronized getInstance() method) could have a performance impact. (Do NOT assume that it will and then munge up your code just based on that. Only make performance-related changes if you have measured and found that to be a bottleneck.)
    One other issue is whether you should even have a Singleton in the first place. There's been a lot of backlash against Singleton lately. It's true that it is overused and abused, but, IMHO, the backlash has been just as over the top and knee-jerky as the initial "let's use singleton everywhere" approach. There are cases where singletons are appropriate. Yours may be one, or it may not. I don't know enough of your design to comment on it one way or the other, and I'm not interested in pursuing that question. I just want to raise the issue to you as something to think about and possibly research further.

  • How to use imessage on ipod touch-messages going to email

    My son has an ipod Touch current generation that we have updated with ios5 and I have new iphone 4s.  We are trying to get imessage to work so I can text him and he me on his ipod touch.  He can text me via imessage fine, but when I respond, it goes to his email, not into the imessage app.  it makes having a "conversation" a little challenging.  we each have apple ids that we are using, but I can't seem to figure out how to stop the messages from going to email vs. the imessage app.  thanks for any help.

    Well, something might be wrong with my iPod. I added a contact to my iCal on the computer and check-marked the sync part in info. After I plugged my iPod to the computer it sure enough showed up on my iPod. However, when I try to add an event to my iPod it shows up twice for a split second with a red dot next to it then disappears. Can anyone suggest what might be wrong?

  • HT1688 How to use iMessage with only one apple account.

    I updated my iphone4 and my husbands iphone3s and my ipad2 to iOS6. I have one apple account for all of them....well now my email, which is my login, is hooked to all 3 for imessage. So if I send my husband a imessage it sends it to all 3 of them....I have shut off iMessage on our phones but would like to know how to unlink my husbands phone at least..I never had a problem before the upgrade....an suggestions.

    Ok..I figured it out. I had to go to settings on my ipad and go to messages. Then click on send & recieve...I had to then uncheck my iphone number and my husbands number and only have my email address check for the ipad....now its all back to normal again.

  • How to use imessage from my ipod and have it come up as my phone number, not my email?

    how do i get it to use my phone number and not my email?

    If you have an iPhone with Messages enabled, on your iPod touch open Settings > Messages > Send & Receive, and tick your phone number and unmark your email address. Doing this, you will send and receive messages from your phone number, so you will get the same messages as on your iPhone at the same time

  • How long use with BETA drivers

    2_08_0002Beta driver has been a ok driver!! But when will we get a full retail driver? A company like Creative should and could make real working drivers you think?
    I want new drivers for my Audigy 2 card, and yes i know there are 2_07_0004 drivers out, but they are originally for X-Fi! So please creative... make me a happy costumer!!

    The most reliable way would be to load each driver (and all code using it) using its own classloader.
    But that would likely be overly complicated.
    The most viable solution will likely be (especially as this is a short term project, you say it's going to be retired soon) to ensure a commit after every smaller subset of the total data volume and keep using the Oracle 8 drivers.
    Try forcing a commit after say every 100 records and see if you still have the timeout problems. Most likely this will take care of your problems at the cost of a slight performance decrease (but better somewhat less than optimal performance than risk database corruption or crashing applications, right?).
