How to use modem port on WRT54GS

Hi,  I have a network like this:
ADSL -> THOMSON wired modem -> LinkSys SR2016 wired switch -> LinkSys WRT54GS wired/wireless router
My problem is with the connecction between the SR2016 -> WRT54GS.  As you probably will know the WRT54GS has 5 ports, one is called 'INTERNET' and the others are numbered 1, 2, 3, 4. According to the documentation of the WRT54GS it should be possible to configure the internet-port (the 5th connector on the back-side) so that it can be connected to another router.I can't get this to work.
My current workaround is to sacrifice one of the 4 router ports to connect to the SR2016. This works well, but takes up 1 wireless channel.
I would like to hear if there are any tips or experiences in this forum to get this working.
Solved!
Go to Solution.

If the purpose of the WRT is to provide a wireless access point for your LAN (and not create two separated and protected LANs) then you have to connect the WRT through one of the numbered LAN ports. You also have to turn off the DHCP server on the WRT.

how we can use com port to communicate to the device like Pole Display(output device) or fixed scaneer (input device) having serial port(Input device) in oracle forms.

For web forms you will probably need to create a PJC and/or use webutil and make calls to the device's API.

  • How to use thunderbolt port with disks and DVI-display

    Hello,
today I use a 15" MacBookPro and have attached 1TB LaCie with FW800  (for time machine) and DVI-Display using Mini-port.
Need to add more external disk space and look for Lacie 2 TB with thunderbolt connection (for storing mass of pictures in Raid1 version)
Is it possible to connect the new disk, the other disk with an Thunderbolt->FW800 adapter and the DVI-Display to one thunderbolt port?
What are the options I have, to get all three to work at the same time?

No, or at least not without additional hardware. You have too many end-points for one Thunderbolt chain.
You also have the problem that the Thunderbolt->FW800 adapter is not yet for sale.
If the new disk you get has two Thunderbolt ports (which not all do), you could daisy-chain the Thunderbolt->FW800 adapter behind it, but that adapter has to be at the end of the chain. The Mini-port->DVI adapter likewise needs to be at the end of a chain.
So, you can probably get all three connected at one time by connecting the "1TB LaCie with FW800  (for time machine)" to your FW800 port, while connecting the Thunderbolt->FW800 adapter (when available) to the second port of the new disk. I say "probably" because nobody has the TB-FW adapter yet to try it.
As for doing it on one Thunderbolt port with additional hardware, you might look into third-party docking stations being released in the next few months. The announced prices are in the low-to-middle hundreds. I won't mention brand names, as this is an Apple forum, but they aren't too hard to find by web search.
The highest-priced solution would be the Apple Thunderbolt Display, which gives you a FW800 port for your 1TB drive, a pass-thru Thunderbolt port for your new disk, and of course a 2560x1440 display (plus ethernet and usb2 ports you may not need). It's available now, in the uppermost hundreds. There are some refurbs in the online Apple Store at the moment at 15% off.

  • How to forward/open ports for WRT54G?

Hi. I recently bought a WRT54G because my old router was destroyed by lightening and thunder. I have managed to set it up, and got the interent itself to work with static IP adress (192.168.1.101 for my PC).
However, even though I have tried to forward/open ports for applications like uTorrent and DC++ as well as Limewire, I have no luck. When I test if the ports are indeed opened, I get the result that they are not. Here are how my port forward setting looks like for utorrent. The port in the settings image is of course the same as in uTorrent.
    http://www.pictub.com/quickupload/01/untitled-1mb4wd.jpg
I can't seem to open any ports, even though I have followed tutorials like the ones at portforward.com. I have the latest firmware for my router, as I flashed it when I got it. Help .

    Yes, I did .
Anyways, look what I found in the uTorrent FAQ:
1.7 Special note for users with Linksys WRT54G/GL/GS routers, there are severe problems with them when running any P2P application
To fix it, they say one has to flash with a unofficial firmware, but I will rather get the money back and buy another router tomorrow. Thanks for the help anyways .

  • X201 - how to use the port replicator??

    Hi,
I've just received my x201 with the dockingstation. Monitor and speakers are connected to dockingstation and everything works fine.
But, I cannot use the builtin dvd player or any of the USB ports on the dock, what do I need to do to get these working?
    Thanks in advance,
    Mattias

Yes, the ultrabase. I'm using windows 7.
When I open my computer I don't see the DVD. Nothing happens when I plug something into the USB ports. The light above the DVD is green.
    What am I doing wrong?

  • How do I unblock Ports? (WRT54GS)

There is no application on my computer associated with the Router, if someone could help me it would be much appreciated. Thanks.

The application that allows a user to configure the router is your web browser, either Internet Explorer (in Windows), Mozilla Firefox or Safari on a Mac. Typically, the router is at IP address 192.168.1.1.
To unblock the ports requires access to the router. However, the only time ports have to be unblocked is when you are serving the application to the internet and internet users need to connect to it. For example, if you were running a web page server on one PC, internet users outside of your local network couldn't reach the web pages on your server unless you configure your router to open port 80 on the router and direct requests for port 80 to the correct machine.
Is that what you are trying to do?

  • IMac11,2: How do you use internal modem without a modem port?

This is driving me nuts. How on earth do I dial up somewhere from my iMac, or even send or receive a fax, when there is no modem port to connect my modem lead to, and thus connect the Mac to a phone line?
I rang Applecare but they didn't even seem to know there was an internal modem on the Mac, or even how it used to work with a direct connection to the phone line. They seemed to think I could attach the modem lead to my router. But I rang BT re my Home Hub 3 and they didn't know either. There is no modem socket on the router.
So I searched Apple Support and found a reference on page 11 of the following manual:
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/iMac_Early2009_UG.pdf
    saying:
"To use a dial-up connection, you need the external Apple USB Modem, available from the online Apple Store at www.apple.com/store or from an Apple Authorized Reseller. Plug the Apple USB Modem into a USB port on your iMac, and then use a phone cord (not included) to connect the modem to a phone jack"
But when I rang the Apple Store they said they didn't sell Apple USB modems. They, too, didn't seem to have any idea of what I was talking about.
I cannot be the only person in the world who wants to dial-up places from their Mac. There are three reasons for wanting direct dial-up:
    1) Sending and receiving faxes
    2) Connecting to a company server via dial-up (and I am talking a major national newspaper here, not a small outfit)
    3) Using a dial-up internet service when the broadband goes down
All very good and important reasons for needing to be able to connect the Mac to the phone line, I am sure you will agree.
But how on earth do I do that now?
    Thanks
    Sarah

    Hi Niel,
    Thanks for the speedy reply.
But my iMac does seem to have an internal modem because it shows up in Network prefs under the list of available connections, and there is still a fax option in System prefs too.

I am a new user for  labview.I develope my program with FP 2000 but I have some problem
1 How can i browse FP 2000 via serial port same use Ethernet port(RJ 45)? if it can Tell me please.
2 If  I use GSM/GPRS modem via FP 2000 rs 232 port (I under stand how to send AT command) and leave it stand alone
Can I dial modem and browse file in FP 2000 same as use Ethernetport?
Someone please help me.Thank you very much.

    Hi!
First, I can say that your project involves many things, I cannot describe all features in the forum, and I'm not used with GPRS modems (my modems are base band serial modems...).
Anyway, I would say that in your project you should proceed like this:
          1) Configure your FP 2000 module via MAX and ethernet connection;
          2) Download an embedded application to your module (build in LabView Real-Time)
          3) In your application, you should build a kind of serial port manager, and by the means of serial port you send/receive commands from PC.
The commands from PC can include "Tell me the about the FP 2000 file system ", or "switch on line X", or anything you need.
I think it would be difficult to use Internet exp, because you use IE with TCP/IP, and TCP/IP is over ethernet.
I know that for Windows you can find some wrappers that make you "see" the serial port as an ethernet, but these wrapper do not exist under filed Point, and you shoul build one yourself!!!(and that's not easy).
For example, to browse your files, you should build a VI that searches through your file system, and reports, via serial, the files present in a directory (it's an example....).
About communication between GPRS modems and FP2000, I know nothing.  I suppose that these modems accept serial inputs, so you'll have to configure your serial port on FP 2000 with the correct baud rate, parity, and so on..... and you send your data to the modem.  The modem will transfer data in its way, no matter on how it does.
To send data to your modem you shoud take a look to some Serial communication examples.  What I suggest you, first, is to connect the serial port of FP2000 to a PC, and test communication between PC and FP2000, without modems. Just direct cable connection!  If you're able to do this, insertion of modems is the next step, and should be quite easy.  If you're not able to make the PC receive strings of data from FP2000, over  RS232, adding modems is a further complication, and you won't come out of this mess!
So, what I say, is just build, for now, a simple embedded application for FP2000, that, using RS232, sends data to a PC (you should see data sent with use of Hyper terminal).
To build this application, use Instrument I/O --> VISA commands (VISA open, VISA write, and Property node should be enough, for now).
Please, let me know if this helps......
        Have a nice (programming) day!

How to use the same OC4j server with different port numbers..?
I have to OC4J installed on my machine on different hard disk drives....

is it possible ..it yes then how..?
for that i have changed the port number of one server...
but when i am trying to start the other server with different port number..it says that JVM -Bind already...
    Is there any clues...?

    In the config directory:
default-web-site.xml: Change the port the HTTP listener listens on
jms.xml: Change the port the JMS service listens on
rmi.xml: Change the port the ORMI listener listens on.
Or, you can add another web-site.xml file, and deploy your applications to 1 server, and bind the web applications to the different web sites. This way you only have to deploy your applications to 1 place.

  • Windows NDIS filter - how to check if port is used by operating system

    Hi,
I am writing a windows NDIS filter driver (for versions 6.0,6.2.6.3) and would like to be able to query from inside the kernel about the status of a tcp port (is it in use?).
The function: FilterReceiveNetBufferLists is called when I receive a packet. Afterwards the tcp header of the packet is  extracted. I want to check if the destination port which I've extracted from the header is being used on the local machine.
Can I use WSK Network API, WFP or some other API to check if a port is being used by the operating system? and if so how do I do it?
    Thanks in advance!

This won't be easy, but you can get the address table by sending IOCTL_TCP_QUERY_INFORMATION_EX to \Device\TCP as documented
here. You'll need to spend some time looking at TCPIOCTL.H in the SDK, too. If you search the Internet for IOCTL_TCP_QUERY_INFORMATION_EX, you'll find some hints on how to use it.
