When you download something from the iCloud, it is a brand new licensed copy. Your iCloud account just contains a notation that you have this app. It isn't storing an actual copy of the app from your Mac.

With using any version of iTunes, whenever I import songs into my library using the "add to library" function, iTunes adds those songs in songs' alphabetical order. This is pretty annoying since it does not preserve the logical track number or even the album sort order (for example when adding 2 albums stored in a unique folder). Anyone has any ideas ? hi i had the same problem today when i updated my itunes to latest version. however, i have just found my songs in the 'itunes media' folder. this was accessed through 'my music'  then keep clicking through until you find itunes media and all my library songs were in there and i then just added these files to my library and all were restored however, i have lost all my playlists but at least my 700 songs are back. very dissapointed with apple that they have let this happen with their latest update, the previous version was miles better than this one . hope you find them. stevo

How can i transfer my music library in itunes to my phone, all the music was on my phone until i did an upgrade then I lost them.

Connect your phone to your computer, click on the name of your phone on the left side of iTunes, then do the following:
On the summary tab of your iTunes sync settings check "Sync only checked songs and videos"
In your music library check all the songs you want to sync to your phone
Confirm that there are no exclamation points next to any of the songs you want to sync to your phone
Confirm that you have authorized your computer for all Apple IDs for purchased music you want to sync to your phone (in Store>Authorize This Computer)
Check "Sync Music" on the Music tab of your iTunes sync settings
    Sync your phone

  • What is causing this?  The file "iTunes Library.itl" does not appear to be a valid iTunes library file. iTunes has created a new iTunes library and renamed this file to "iTunes Library (Damaged) 4".  This happens everytime I start iTunes lateley.  Help!!!

  • Invalid iTunes library/damaged iTunes library

I created a library for all my media with the option key and iTunes on my external hard drive. All my music, TV shows, podacsts, etc. is stored there and all is intact, except I launched iTunes like normal and I get the message
"The file 'iTunes Library' does not appear to be a valid iTunes library file. iTunes has created a new iTunes library and renamed this file to 'iTunes Library (Damaged)'"
I've read other threads. I can't seem to rebuild the library with the .xml file. I tried the drag your library to the desktop thing and that doesn't work.
All my physical data is fine, but I need the library back so I don't have to spend weeks recreating it by hand.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thank You!

Indie, I don't understand this part. Do you just mean re-creating your playlists and reassigning star ratings and that kind of thing? I took your "having to play all the files" literally and don't know what that has to do with anything.
I hope the Apple Store folks advised you to make regular backups of the critical iTunes Library file. Some people are wise enough to keep a backup of their iTunes Music folder. Fewer make a backup of the iTunes Library file, but that's how you can recover from an incident like yours with the least amount of work.

Locate the iTunes folder from the user profile on the rescued drive, typically at X:\Users\<User>\Music\iTunes. Delete the "empty" iTunes library from your current User's Music folder and copy in the originial library in its place.

  • How to use one I-tunes library with multiple windows users (family) on 1 pc

On our family pc we log in with different accounts. We want to use I-Tunes but all have the same library. I tried to create a library not in the users directory, but in the All Users folder that is accessible for everyone. However, when I import the music in the library for one user and set the same location for another user, I-tunes does not recognize the library. So everyone has to create it's own library.
What are the best practices to overcome this?

Keep in mind that what you have done now is you have multiple iTunes libraries accessing the same media folder. Meaning, that each account can have their own ratings, playlists, etc. but more importantly, each account does NOT know what the other account does, so if your daughter adds a CD to her account, it will go into the shared folder, but it will NOT automatically go into your wife's iTunes library. She would have to add it manually. Likewise, if one account deletes music from their library and tells iTunes to remove it to the trash, the other accounts will not know and iTunes will still try to access the file from the shared location even though the file is now trashed.
Each account has their own database files (.itl files in the iTunes folder) which stores this stuff.
If you want to have everyone use the exact same library which means the same ratings, playlists, etc. then you need to move the database files into that same location and set each iTunes account to read the same data.

  • How do I sync a large library in iTunes 11?

    Hi
I am using iTuness 11 on a PC, iTunes Match is NOT being used.
My Library is too large for my iPod Touch so it won't sync.
What can I do to sunc part of my library?
    Peter

Obviously, you need to "choose" only some of your library to be Synced with the iPod.
One idea is to create some Smart Playlists which would automatically remove songs from the Playlist after playing, and then put them back after a set period of time. You then Sync Selected Playlists instead of the entire Library. By usijg several Smart Playlists, you can have whatever you want from yuor Library, on your iPod.
Have a look at my suggestions in these two threads, whhich may help you understand how Smart Playlists work:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/21033384?ac_cid=sa123456#21033384
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/21003495#21003495#21003495
In both threads, the intention was simply to reduce the possibility of the shuffle sticking to the same songs, not to reduce the number of songs on the iPod. However, you could create a similar Playlist, but by using Sync selected Playlists, the "removed from the Playlist songs" would also be removed from the iPod, until the elasped time you specify has passed. Then they get put back, and replace other recently played songs, thus keeping the number of songs on the iPod to a reasonable size.
It doesn't have to be recently played, there are other ways to reduce the number of songs being Synced.
If the idea appeals, but you need help creating suitable Smart Playlists, let me know.

  • How can I change "iTunes Library" to "iTunes Music Library"?

i use iTunes as my muisc-pool and a DiscoXT as DJ-programm. There is the possibility to use my iTunes Music Library there in form of the "iTunes Muisc Library.xml". now iTunes created a new Library called "iTunes Library.itl" and  "iTunes Library.xml". The "iTunes Music Library.xml" now is not actauized since Dec 2011. How to come back to the "iTunes Music Library.xml" as actualized in iTunes and so also actualized in Disco XT?
How can I create this in iTunes?
    I need some help!
    Thx for this
    Dhwani

You cannot change the name of the .itl file iTunes creates. Attempting to do so will almost certainly cause iTunes to fail. And iTunes automatically creates the XML file and there's no way to change the name of the file it creates.
If Disco XT uses the XML file, as most such applications do, you could probably make a copy of the iTunes Library.xml file and rename the copy as necessary. That copy will probably then work, though you'll have to make a new copy any time you make a change in iTunes. Otherwise, the developers of Disco XT will need to change the application to look for both versions of the file name, if they have not done so already; consult with the developer's support.
    Regards.
