How to use Nikon D810 Photoshop Raw?

Hi, I downloaded the update and moved it to the right location, but I still can't open RAW D810 files.. Not sure what else I can do..?

Which version of Photoshop are you using?
THe D810 requires Camera Raw 8.6 or later which requires CS6, CC or CC 2014.

  • RC 8.6 Issues with Nikon D810 NEF RAW files

RC 8.6 does not correctly process Nikon D810 NEF RAW files. See the following blog article for some details:
Nikon D810 vs D800E ISO Comparison

This is very helpful. My current workflow, until ACR 8.6 and LR fully support the Nikon D810, are to use the DNG converter and import the resulting D810 DNG files into my LR catalog.
I have not yet tried this (traveling right now), but I assume I can still make a custom profile using the X-Rite ColorChecker Passport and it's associated software for my D810 using the RC 8.6 DNG files. This is my normal workflow for all of my other cameras in LR, but the process is direct from native RAW and not DNG (to produce the custom profile).

Until Lightroom gets D810 support, you will need to use the ACR plugin in order to see the profiles. The DNG Converter always uses Adobe Standard, and embeds it into the DNG. Lightroom 5.5 doesn't have the D810 profiles.

  • Which Mac to recommend using Nikon D810 RAW files, New iMac or MacPro?

I am still working with a MacPro 1.1, Lightroom 5 and a Nikon D4 + a D600. I am about to buy a D810 and i know the RAW files on my old Mac are just too large.
So i will need a new Mac.
Anybody have experience with the latest iMac and the D810? I think my only problem with the iMac is the glossy screen… The MacPro is about twice as expensive, mmhh
Looking forward to hear some suggestions...
    Marc

Clarification: this is a user forum; you are not addressing Adobe here.
The answer to your question as phrased is: never.
CS5 is history and it is not longer supported.  There will not be any updates or bug fixes for CS5.
You need to convert the raw NEF files from your D810 to raw DNGs using the free, standalone Adobe DNG Converter 8.6 RC (beta), the first version ever to support that camera..

  • How do I set up Premiere Elements 12 to open Nikon D810 NEF, RAW files?

I'm running a Windows 8.1 computer with Premiere Elements 12.  New Nikon D810 RAW files will not open in program.  Is there a plug-in or other fix for this?

    gsorozan
You cannot import Nikon D810 nef files into Premiere Elements 12. For that you need to have Camera Raw at least 8.6 which is supported by Premiere Elements 13. So, if you want to import Nikon D810 nef files into Premiere Elements, you need Premiere Elements 13.
However, if you convert your Nikon D810 nef files into dng files with the DNG 8.6 converter, you can import those dng files into your Premiere Elements 12.

  • Nikon D810 9mp raw files won't open

Apple released an RAW update for Nikon D810 cameras. How long until the 9MB RAW files have an update?

Yes, you are correct about the small RAW files.
The primary problem that I have is that I have already taken the photos. In other words I'm looking to edit/process photos that I have already taken. The shoot is done. Finished. And I can't open them in Aperture.
Once I figured out that the smaller raw files can't be opened with Aperture, I switched to the full sized raw setting. So I'm good for processing future photos.
Anyone have any news about raw update for small, 9mp d810 raw files?

  • How to open Nikon D610 NEF (RAW) in iPhoto 11 on Mac Os 10.6

Is there a way to open Nikon D610 NEF (RAW) in iPhoto 11 on Mac Os 10.6 ?
    Thank you.

The RAW support for the Camera is built on Mt. Lion,  see:
OS X Mountain Lion: Supported digital camera RAW formats  - Apple Support
and requires *Aperture version 3.4.5 or later, or iPhoto version 9.4.3 or later.  You'll need at least to upgrade to Lion, to be able to run these versions of iPhoto or Aperture.
How about installing a newer MacOS X version on a separate disk? This way you can keep Rosetta, but upgrade your photo library to a newer MacoS X version?

  • Nikon D810 software - Raw files

Photographs taken with the latest software in Nikon D810 cameras in Raw (NEF) format cannot be read by either Preview or Aperture, rendering Apple computers useless to even see the pictures taken.  What to do ?  Is there a solution in sight ?

What  are your camera RAW settings?
Apple supports only the uncompressed RAW format "RAW L" for the Nikon D810.
See:  OS X Yosemite: Supported digital camera RAW formats - Apple Support
    †Nikon RAW L format only.
Latest software is a bit ambiguous - have you upgraded to Yosemite and Aperture 3.6?  The RAW Support for Nikon D810 requires at least Aperture 3.4.

Lightroom 5.3 should be able to open D600 RAW photos.
The problem is most likely that you used some version of Nikon software to transfer the photos to your computer. This interferes with Lightroom's ability to read the files. If the files are still on your camera card, use Lightroom to directly access them from the camera card. If they are not on your camera card, you can still fix the files, see http://forums.adobe.com/message/6181267#6181267

  • How to use layers from photoshop in final cut?

I am googling, but not coming up with much updated info. I would like to use layers from a Photoshop stills file within Final Cut. Any good tutorial videos out there?

may I use keyframes etcetera and eventually animate separate layers?
Ummmm .... yeah. That's the whole point of being able to open the PSD in its own Sequence. Each layer will be on a separate track so you can manipulate each layer individually. Wait ... I've said that already.

  • My Nikon D810 NEF/RAW File Size

I'm wondering if the 72mg file size is normal or is it something I have set up iinadvertantly. My D800 has a 36mg file size. Thanks. BTW, I also cannot read these files in Lightroom 5.5 for Mac. I hope a fix is coming soon!

There is support in the release candidate for Camera Raw 8.6 as well. So that should be an indication that native support for your NEF files will be available in the next Lightroom update. I would guess that update should be available soon, probably within the next few weeks. But you will just have to wait for the update. If you keep in touch with this forum you will know when the update is available as soon as anyone else does.
I understand your need to have Lightroom support your NEF files. But, in the meantime, (I'm going to mention it again) that DNG converter release candidate will enable you to work on DNG copies of your files so that you can evaluate how things are going. You'll still have the original NEF files that you can go to as soon as Lightroom supports them. I know it isn't the solution that you want or need, but it will at least give you access to your raw data now.

  • How to use lz4 compression for RAW file inside DNG ?

I know DNG supports zip compression. However, I want to use lz4 compression, as I am saving the file in realtime, and I cannot see any zip library matching the performance of lz4 for 16-bit RAW.
In my case this is 12-bit data with 4 bits set to zero.

Is there a study that compared the encoding speeds of the 3 algorithms available for RAW files ?
    LZW, Packbits, Deflate.
I think Lossless JPEG can also work with 1 plane setting.
Also, looking at the dng_validate code, and the calls to relevant libraries, I see that the code seems to deal only with byte boundaries.
Are any of these algorithms optimized for 10,12,14-bit RAW data ?
I am trying to encode 203 MBps of data. Intel IPP would be an option, but its obviously nicer if DNG SDK can provide whats needed for free with some tweaking.

  • How to use 3D in Photoshop CC

So I have a Macbook Pro 13" from around 2011, and I don't have access to the 3D options, it says there isn't enough vRAM detected. What do I do to fix this?

If the hardware isn't up to snuff, there is no way to enforce 3D.

  • Nikon D810 not reconised

    Hi,
I have LR 5.6, and use Nikon D810.  My LR does not reconise my camera, when I use 'camera filter', the D810 is not shown, and when I tether, again no Nikon D810.
(my camera is connected by HTML cable).
    Suggestions?
    Cheers

You need Lr 5.7 for tethering.

  • I have Photoshop Elements 12 for both PC and Mac (I use both). I have a new camera, Nikon D810. I downloaded the latest version of Camera Raw, 8.8. My D810 is listed as a supported camera model. However, when I try to open a raw photo in Photoshop Element

I have Photoshop Elements 12 for both PC and Mac (I use both). I have a new camera, Nikon D810. I downloaded the latest version of Camera Raw, 8.8. My D810 is listed as a supported camera model. However, when I try to open a raw photo in Photoshop Elements, I keep getting the message "Could not complete your request because the file appears to be from a camera model which is not supported by the installed version of Camera Raw. I have tried reinstalling Camera Raw many times, and have tried to open many different raw files in Elements, and still get the same error message. Please help.

How did you try to install ACR 8.8.  The only way I know of that works with Elements is to use the Updates Choice on the Help menu.
There are two charts supplied by Adobe that explain your RAW dilemma.  This one tells you what your camera needs:  http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html   This one tells you what version of software you need:  http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/camera-raw-compatible-applications.html
In your case, the Nikon D810 needs Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) 8.6 or Lightroom 5.6.  (Congratulations on buying a new camera!)
To get to that level with Photoshop Elements, you will need to replace your Photoshop Elements 12 with version 13.   Adobe caps ACR updates on version 12 at 8.5.
The most convenient way to get around it without spending any money is to use the FREE from Adobe DNG Converter.  Download and install it from here for FREE:  http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/thankyou.jsp?ftpID=5855&fileID=5890  Once it is installed you can convert your D810 raw files to an Adobe RAW version with the .DNG file extension that most, if not all, versions of the various Adobe software programs can use.  That includes old versions of Photoshop, Elements and Lightroom.  DNG converter can be used as the tool to move your files from your memory card to your computer, is efficient, will convert in batches and is completely lossless.  There is no risk of any image quality degradation or RAW functionality.
