How to use TC as backup in fiber network?

I've just got a new fiber network installed at home and I'll use the wireless functionality. And to that I would like to connect my TC. I do not want the TC as a base station only for backup and as a hub for my printer. How do I do?

Just bridge the TC and plug it into your main router.
You can also turn off the wireless although there is nothing wrong with using the wireless as it is probably faster for backups to connect directly to the TC.

  • Downgrade to 10.6.6, then how to use Time Machine backup?

Due to multiple problems I'm having with PDF files, Word 2011, and printing, I've now decided to downgrade back to 10.6.6.  I don't know the best way to do this.
    1) If I use a TimeMachine backup, I know I can restore the system back to when I was still running 10.6.6, but how do I retain all the email, documents, apps, etc that I've saved or installed since that time?  And is there an easy way to tell which backup was the last backup done while still running 10.6.6?  In other words, how can I use TimeMachine to roll back to 10.6.6 without losing anything else?
    2) If I use my SN install disk to reinstall the OS and then run the 10.6.6 Combo update, will all the user files be retained?  If eveything would work properly, would I lose anything other than 10.6.7?

Instead of downgrading, maybe updating would fix your problems? A Snow Leopard Font Update was released earlier this week: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4605

  • How to use an old backup file to restore iPhone 4s?

Hello everyone and thank you in advance for any help that I may recieve.
I synced and backed my iPhone 4s via iTunes and then accidently restored it.  I tried using the most recent backup to get everything back how it was right before the accidental restore, but it was not found under itunes.  However, I was able to locate that backup in my files (library>application support>mobile sync>backups) but have no idea how to use that backup as the source to the restore.  On itunes (under preferences>devices) I see some backups that were from a couple months back, which are someone useless considering I want the backup right before I accidently restored my phone.  Is there any way to obtain the backup from my file onto iTunes so that I can use the file for the restore??
    Thanks once again!!

Hi, I have seen that post before however, the iPhone I have didn't have a Sim card. It used a cdma/gap number I guess? It's the Verizon/Sprint version.

  • How to use AirPort Express over a dorm network

    Hi,
I used my AirPort Express at home to add wireless to my existing home network and it worked well.
However, I can't get it to work here so I'll give you every detail possible in order for you to explain me how to configure it. A million thanks in advance. (I'm giving you the specific address just to illustrate it better)
I can only use one IP address on the network which is 192.168.1.25
    The subnet mask is 255.255.255.0
    The default getaway is 192.168.1.1
    The preferred DNS is: 195.235.113.3
    The alternate DNS is: 80.58.32.97
Do I have to put the AirPort Express IP address as 192.168.1.25? And can I use any range of DHCP IP addresses or I must use 192.168.1.x?
    Thanks for helping me guys

You need to use NAT in order to share the single IP address.
If you had two (one for the AX and one for your computer) then you wouldn't need to use NAT.
On the Internet Tab use the following.
    Connect using Ethernet
    Configure Manually
    IP address 192.168.1.25
    Subnet mask is 255.255.255.0
    Router Address 192.168.1.1
    DNS 195.235.113.3
    80.58.32.97
    On the Network Tab
    Check Distribute IP addresses
Share a single IP address using DHCP and NAT
    I would use 10.0.1.x addressing
    On the Airport Tab
    Change Wireless Security
    Use WPA
    Use a password like this
    45fs6ue6v1d5fg7d55dsg555
You may need to add the DNS addresses to the clients in order to access the internet.
This may not work, and I would in fact advise talking to your campus network people instead.

  • I want clear instructions on how to use Sync to backup my single Firefox computer

All I want is for my FF bookmarks etc to be sync'd to your server so when I need to reinstall my system, they are easily reloaded. But how????? Syncing seems obsessed with multiple computers. That's not how most users use it. They want to backup their single computer.
I have an account but when I go to tools/sync I'm asked to setup sync or pair a device. I don't want either, I want to see what my backup is like, how up-to-date it isa and check it is all there before I reinstall my system.
If this is not what sync is for, where is the option to backup my Firefox settings, bookmarks and history please?
And for God's sake stop going on about pairing a device!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh and when I click the option to automatically collect info on my setup a pop-up says Firefox has blocked Mozzilla.......

Alternatively, you can use the [https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/febe/ FEBE extension] to back up your bookmarks, passwords, and more. Just remember to save that backup somewhere outside of your computer (like on a flash drive or an external hard drive) before you reinstall your system.

  • How do I do wireless backup without wireless network?

My school dormitory doesn't allow LAN, hence I can't extend my network through Time capsule (TC), which acts as an airbase.
Nevertheless, I can sign-on wirelessly to school network, so I don't really need to get online through TC.
However, I do wish to wirelessly access TC content, and be backup via TC.
I read from couple blogs that mentioned how, through internet cable, I can set up TC
and choose manual set up - extend network, and do a auto sign-in with school network.
But with my school, it doesn't really allow that.
Therefore, I'm here inquiring, is it possible for my computer to automatically detect my TC and be back up
even when TC doesn't have internet network.
    Thank you.
    Tai.

    thanks, the problem indeed is,
there is no ethernet jack available. that's what i meant by, "doesn't allow lan"
There is an ethernet jack in the TC.. 3 of them for LAN and one for WAN to be precise. Assuming you have a MBP i hope it is one that still has a jack.. therefore there is a jack on both.. all you need is an ethernet cable between them. Get internet by wireless.. and TC connection by ethernet. Do both at the same time by using a different IP range and fixed static ip on the Mac. You will cause no interference or issues to other residents. Just turn off the wireless in the TC.
ah, the problem sounds so desperate.
Why can't my macbook just talk to my TC directly, and wirelessly...?
Of course you can connect to the TC directly (that usually means by ethernet btw).. and wirelessly,, yes of course. just not at the same time as the internet.. because your internet service is designed by geniuses for idiots.. who would connect up dhcp servers and bring down the whole network.. who would setup wireless routers in every room of the college when there are precisely 3 available non-overlapping channels for wireless.. at 2.4ghz.. yes, only 3.. so figure out how well that goes with all the residents packed together in little rooms.
Apart from interferring with the network your college provides.. will cause so much interference with each other.. they designed a login web page system that requires a computer to login.
You can do it.. even simultaneously to the internet system.. use a usb wireless stick.. but use 5ghz.. and you will probably need a different AP to prevent the TC revealing your presence. Since running it is not allowed. And any decent admins will have you tracked in no time.
If you can live with the consequencies.. and no need to treat fellow residents as important at all as long as you get connected to your TC.. go ahead. Having done IT admin.. that is why we give up.

  • HT4515 how to use face time on 3 G network

How do I use the Face time option?  What if I'm on the 3 G network and away from home and the other person is either on the same thing or at home with a wireless network at home?

Yep, on Sept 19th iOS 6 will bring FaceTime to Cellular networks if your carrier supports it.
Here in the United States, it looks like AT&T is the only carrier that is actually charging you more to use it, you'd have to get one of their new mobile share plans to use FaceTime over Cellular.
Keep in mind it does use your data plan if you're on 3G so it could eat through some of that data limit pretty quickly.

  • Use Time Machine Backup with Akitio Network Devices

    Hello,
Does anyone knows if I can use any of these two devices so to setup a wireless network backup ?
Anyone used them for this purpose ?
Akitio Cloud Hybrid or Akitio My Cloud Mini.
    Thanks in advance!

A third-party NAS is unsuitable for use with Time Machine, especially if it's your only backup.
Apple has published a specification for network devices that work with Time Machine. None of the third-party NAS vendors, as far as I know, meets that specification. They all use the incomplete, obsolete Netatalk implementation of Apple Filing Protocol.
If you want network backup, use as the destination either an Apple Time Capsule or an external storage device connected to another Mac or to an 802.11ac AirPort base station. Only the 802.11ac base stations support Time Machine, not any older model.
Otherwise, don't use Time Machine at all. There are other ways to back up, though none of them is anywhere near as efficient or as well integrated with OS X. I don't have a specific recommendation.

  • How to use AirPlay on a 802.1x network

I'm trying to connect an AppleTV 3 to an 802.1x network, but I failed to use Airplay: no Airplay buttons appear on proper apps on my iPad 2. Only if I join a commercial ADSL network, anything works well, but this solution is not applicable to my aims (using Keynote from iPads to our interactive whiteboards).
May I install a profile configuration (link) to my AppleTV? This would solve all my problems... I tried, unsuccesully .
You can find a description of the network I tried to join here (in Italian).
I don't need to play any movie downloaded from iTunes, so I shouldn't need any Internet connection, should I? The captive portal described in the link above in necessary only for Internet, not to join the internal network.
I'm available for any further explanation and I hope to have been clear...

    Thanks Daniel,
    I'll try the suggestion asap!

  • How to use Lr and Ps on a networked storage media?

I am using Photoshop & Lr3 in my daily work.  I have been for a long time desperately looking for a way to store and work on my images on a network environment, and could not find any!!!!
I need to be able to color correct the images on Lr and do the design on Photoshop and then print the images back from Lr.
    Please I need your help.
PS: I not the only user on the LAN.
    Thanks

There is nothing to stop you using files on a network in either LR or PS. In the case of LR the catalogue can't be on a networked drive, it must be on a drive physically connected to the machine, however the files can be on a networked location. Just import them from the network location, using ADD as you would any other files.

  • How to use 10.9.8.y/24 network?

I just bought an Airport Extreme Base Station, new model and upgraded to the latest software and firmware. I've had a home network for many years, through many routers, and have always used the 10.9.8.x/24 network. The new Airport is set up and working but unfortunately it doesn't want to let me tell it to live in the above network and hand out DHCP addresses in same. In the Airport Utility Internet/DHCP tab it allows me to choose between 192.168.x.y, 172.16.x.y, and 10.0.x.y. But I need 10.9.x.y. This is perfectly legal - according to one of many Google hits I just looked at:
    Q. What are private IP addresses?
    A. The Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) has reserved the following three blocks of the IP address space for private internets (local networks):
    10.0.0.0 - 10.255.255.255
    172.16.0.0 - 172.31.255.255
    192.168.0.0 - 192.168.255.255
So why won't it let me at 10.9.x.y and is there a workaround? I really don't want to have to move my network IP range - there are a lot of static IPs involved, host files, services, mappings, etc.
Mac Mini Mac OS X (10.4.10)
Mac Mini   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

Interesting idea. I can't try it now because I had to swap out the AXBS in order to get some work done since this is a showstopper. I may get another window tomorrow. I do seem to recall that the IP-address-setting page shows "10.0" as clear text followed by the 3rd octet as a dropdown and the 4th as a text box. So I don't think the GUI has a way of modifying the 2nd octet at all. If there was some way to telnet or ssh in to it I suspect some file could be modified but that may be the only hope. I just wish I knew why this artificial limitation exists. Maybe it's their way of making sure nobody ever tries to manage an IP space larger than 2**16 (which I don't want to do, I want a regular /24 space starting with 10.9.8).

  • How to use Integrated 10/100 Base-T networking interface

I am new to Solaris, in fact I just installed it. I assumed that I would be able to connect to the internet immediately, but that isn't the case. I have an HP a1610n media center pc, and it comes with an Integrated 10/100 Base-T networking interface. Do I need to install a driver to use this network interface?

Can Solaris 'see' your device? this tool wil let you know. [Sun Device Detection Tool 2.1      |http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/hcl/hcts/device_detect.jsp]
If it doesn't see the controller, there are links on the device detection tool page that should help you find a driver - if one's available - for your NIC.
