How to use vst's in external monitoring?

Hi,
3 years ago or something I had Windows Vista installed on my notebook and used Revalver to record my guitar tracks in audition. I haven't recorded anything now for 2 years and now I have Windows 7 ultimate on my notebook. But now I only get the clean signal and not the distorted signal from Revalver from my guitar when I try to use Revalver as vst and I don't know why or what I'm doing wrong. But when I click on play after recording, there's the normal distorted signal. And this is what I need while recording because I can't record metal songs when I just hear the clean signal from guitar...
If I remember right, all I did in the past was open audition, then I clicked on options>monitoring>extern.
Then I clicked on the record symbol in multi track session, clicked on the fx symbol> fx on>vst>Revalver
I think that was all. Do you know if I'm doing anything wrong?

Edit: Have to add something... Maybe it has something to do with the following thing... I just rememberd that, when I used Revalver the first time in audition, I could hear my playing (the wet signal) and it also worked when I clicked on record. But when I clicked on play after recording, I had to change something in my output to hear what I've played. Now when I record something, I don't have to change anything.
Maybe this has something to do with latency. If I understand you right, the signal's going through the sound device twice and that causes in latency. So did I managed it 2 years ago to record just the dry signal somehow (but with live monitoring to hear the distorted signal)? And then alter effects afterwards? Or is it just ******** what I'm talking at the moment?
Well, if you had to change anything at all to hear what you'd just recorded in Audition, then you absolutely weren't monitoring through it! And yes, you are quite correct - the signal is going quite a long way around - it has to. Audition only ever records the dry signal - short of routing the effected channel to a spare output on your sound device, and re-recording that on another input, there's no way to do anything different. But whatever you do, the wet monitor signal, whatever you do with it, is going to have a comparatively large latency delay.
The only thing that you might have managed (and this is a trick that's worth noting) is to monitor the guitar input signal directly, and mixed the latency-delayed effect signal coming back from Audition with it. Under these circumstances you won't notice the delay, because there isn't any on the direct monitoring, and the effect will kick in in a far less noticeable way. It does involve having reasonably comprehensive monitoring controls on your sound device (or an external mixer) to do this, though.

  • Satellite U200-122: How to use Pivot function on external Monitor?

I have a Satellite U200-122, would like to use the external monitor in pivbot function.
But I do not find where I can have the display rotate, so that it will be displayed in portrait format on the external monitor and accept resolution 1024x1280.
    Any ideas?
Graphic driver: Intel Chipset 945GM express
    Thanks
    Isabel

    Thax for the tipp, but:
That is exactly my problem: the intel graphics acceklerator DOES NOT offer any rotate functionality! I wonder why because I have read in many forums that it should have, I know it can be seen on the right part of the intel graphics accelerator window, but nothing is there.
So i wonder, if in the U200 there is possibly a different graphic driver or management sofwtare, which just does not support this? Could it be that a graphic driver does not offer pivot???
    Shortcuts do not work either.
Btw: when i put the laptop on a kensington workstation, then the kensington graphic manager -display -link - is used, and then with many workarounds i do get the monitor to show pivot in necessary reolution. but i want a to use a pivot monitor also at home without dockingstation...

  • I dropped my macbook pro and the screen is broken can i still use it with an external monitor? Or can I or how do I transfer hard drive files to my mac mini?

I dropped my 17" macbook pro and the screen is broken. Can I still use it with an external monitor? When I plugged it into a monitor I had used it with before, I'm not able to see anything on the macbook screen to control it. It came on but I just got the blue screen with nothing else after typing in my password. (Didn't see the password form just assumed it was there somewhere and it did go from space to blue screen but no desktop icons, files, dock strip at top or anything else, just blank blue screen) so I can't access the system preferences.
Or can I / or how do I, transfer hard drive files to my mac mini? If not salvageable as is can I pull out the hard drive and make it an external harddrive? In otherwords is anything salvageable? It seems it's coming on I just can't access anything. BTW I was told it would cost aprox $1000 to replace the screen! I paid almost $4000 for this thing and it was running great - makes me sick to lose it!

I'd like to promise you that everything will be fine if you just get the monitor going - but it's hard to know what the hardware damage might be. It might be the monitor, or the damage might be greater.
Your best solution would be visit your local Apple Store and let them know what your situation is. They have access to diagnostics you don't, and they might be able to the best way to save your data and keep you computing. It's still not covered, but they can tell you what your current options are.
Um, you might consider investing in a backup drive.
And there other repair options, too. Powerbook Medic http://www.powerbookmedic.com/xcart1/pages.php?pageid=67 offers reliable repairs, and quotes prices well under Apple's.

  • How can I set up an external monitor to extend my screen in windows 7 bootcamp?

How can I set up an external monitor to extend my screen in windows 7 bootcamp?  I have updated bootcamp to the latest version.  The monitor I have works while I am using Mac OS X. While in bootcamp the monitor is dectected and I am able to select the settings and displays however the external monitor remains alseep.  I hooked it up using a mini display port to VGA adapter.  Any suggestions?
    Thanks

On your Windows desktop right click and select Screen resolution from the menu. You should see a window like this:
Make sure you select Extend and then set your resolutions for each monitor.
If this does not work for you try asking on a Windows forum about extending displays to a second monitor.

  • Use G5 iMac as external monitor/display for Intel iMac?

I have a 24" Intel iMac and a 20" G5 iMac (which is sort of mothballed now).I was wondering if it is possible to use the older iMac as an external monitor, mainly to save the expense of buying a "proper" external display when there seems to be a perfectly usable one sitting there in the G5 iMac.

    translate.google.com.
Actually, it didn't translate very well. But the instructions are basically how to wire up an adapter cable. The G5 iMac appears to use standard DVI signals, so you just need to make a DVI cable to plug in to the internal connector. The table between pages 7 and 8 is what you want. If you've used a soldering iron around electronic devices before, that table is pretty much all you need. The picture of the backside on page 9 is neat. Using the ethernet connector hole to route the wiring. Almost looks like it came from the factory that way.

  • Using Boot Disk with external monitor?

Does anyone have any idea how to boot from the OSX install disk while using an external monitor?
My powerbook screen and HD are both busted and I can't install the OS on the new HD. I can get to the point where it has booted up and is using the external monitor as a second screen but I can't see what I'm doing! HELP!

Do you have another Mac at your disposal? If you have installed a new HD into the PB and need to put an OS on it, you could put the PB into firewire target mode and attach it as a second drive to another Mac. You can then install an OS onto it.
It might also work that, when you have the PB booted and the external monitor is acting as the second screen, close the lid and put the PB to sleep. Then, wake it up by plugging in a USB mouse or keyboard and the external screen should become the primary screen. You need to have the PB plugged into the AC adapter to perform this trick.

  • USING A 16:9 external monitor with an X31

I have just purchased an Acer X243HQ 23.6" monitor but have found that I can't adjust the profile of the X31 to cope with the 16:9 profile of the screen.  Hence all I get on the external monitor is the computer display profile stretched out.
Any ideas on how to fix the problem?

So are you trying to get the X31 to display on your external LCD only? Have you tried download the newest version of Presentation Director and using that?
Another thought might be the Mobility Modder program. This takes the standard ATI Catalyst drivers and mods them to install on an OEM system like a ThinkPad. Definitely try at your own risk - could have unforseen problems. Make sure you know how to get into safe mode and uninstall the new drivers in case they cause any problems. I also recommend having DriverCleaner handy to clean out the old driver before installing the new one.

  • How to connect a MacBook to external monitor

I have a MacBook that I am trying to hook up a external monitor to.  I have a HDMI cable that goes from the monitor to a adaptor that goes to the mini display port and the USB port.  I have tried with and without the USB cord.  I have tried messing with the display preferences and nothing works.  I have hooked my MacBook up to my HD TV before using the same adaptor and it woks just fine.  Can someone please help me?

HDMI is kind of a flakey technology as there are several different standards. Thats why Applle never adapted it. I'd look at using a mini display to DVI adapter instead.

  • Can i use a hdmi to mini display port cable to use my iMac as external monitor for a windows laptop?

Does anyone know if a hdmi to mini display port cable can be used to link a  windows laptop with an 27 inch iMac to use the iMac as an external monitor. Or are there other options to connect my DELL latitude 6430?

Is the 3.5mm-to-optical cable any better than using a standard 3.5mm?  I don't know too much about this stuff.  My thought process was that if the source of the connection is a 3.5mm jack, does it make a difference using a cable that starts as a 3.5 and converts to optical?
Chances are excellent that if your receiver is less than 20 years old it has an optical input, this is a digital signal which will sound MUCH MUCH better than using an analog 3.5MM to 3.5MM connection. I recommend using the cable suggested or one with the same connections but of a different length if your needs warrant it.

  • Use of 15 pin external monitor socket query

I want to record my display to a VCR machine using a 3 RCA phone plug input which I currently use for my DVD player using Red/White and Yellow RCA lead - have tried using a VGA to RCA lead plugged into the ext. monitor skt. But the lead I have has Red/Green and Blue phone plugs which doesn't appear to work and when the VGA plug was connected caused the size/layout of the laptop display to change with no apparent connection to the vcr - is there a lead connector that will work?
    Any help appreciated.

    Hi maxstick1949,
I agree with Andrej. Your posting is a little bit confusing and I also dont know what you want to do now. Did you read your posting after writing?
I can only say that the VGA port on your notebook is an output port. That means you can use this port for an external monitor but you can record movies because its not an input port.
