  • Firefox 6.0 w/ win media player plugin 1.0.0.8 enabled ALWAYS asks if I want to open a .wmv file with Win Media Player.

Firefox 6.0 would not open .wmv files, so I downloaded and installed M/S windows media player firefox plugin, ver 1.0.0.8.
I have checked using the plugin mgr that it is installed and enabled, but firefox still will not open .wmv files - It still brings up a window asking if I want to use Win Media Player to open the file.

    Flash Player.plugin 0x1a89d53e FlashPlayer_10_0_45_2_FlashPlayer +
You have an outdated version of Flash installed.
Uninstall the current copy of Flash then reinstall, instructions here.

And, you have the Community Toolbar installed. That has to go.

Open a Finder window then select MacintoshHD in the Sidebar on the left. Then open the LIbrary folder then the Application Support folder, the Input Managers folder and the Scripting Additions folder.
Move all the files above in bold print to the Trash.
Relaunch Safari after you have re installed Flash and deleted all those files.

  • How do I force Safari to use Windows Media Player as my default WMV player.

I am subscribed to a educational program called "the Epson Online Experience", and the entire program is in Windows Media Player videos. I was using Safari and Mac OS 10.3.9 with no problem what so ever, until Quick Time updated itself. Now I can't get WMP to play at all in Safari, or in Camino or IE either. The browsers just keep trying to play the link in Quick Time.
I did download Flip4Mac, but with no luck. The links now appear to open, appear to be downloading the buffer, but will stay on that screen for hours if I allow it.
Does anyone know how to make Windows Media Player the default media player in Safari? or for that matter, in Camino (or if I MUST, I guess I would be willing to try it in IE too if I could make it work.
    Thanks for the help!

Welcome to Apple Discussions. Your post seems to have been lost in a sea of Safari problems.
Usually items triggering media players create a file, which is downloaded into your system. Check your download folder for the file. If you can't find it, access the same file again via Safari.
Once you locate the file on your HD, click on it. Then, command key + I will bring up the info panel for the file (or simply select "more info" in the preview panel if you're in the finder's column mode). Go to the bottom where you'll see "open with". There, you see "quicktime" listed as the app. for opening the file. Click on the drop down menu and find the Windows player and select it.
Back to the info. panel - select "change all". This will revert all files of this type on your HD, plus future files to the Windows Media Player. Double click on the file to activate the video. Future selections in Safari will automatically open the correct media player. One other note, for the player to open automatically, you must check "open safe files after downloading" in your Safari Preferences>General panel.
    Post back with results.

  • Cannot listen to online radio streaming using Windows Media Player

Online radio websites that use Windows Media Player - opens up the player in new window but instead of buffering, says that it is playing but no output/sound. Definitely not security/pop up/firewall issue. Windows Media Player works fine playing CDs etc.

    Hi there,
so, you definitively have a machine whichs plays sound and you can establish a internetconnection. I think its a pure mediaplayer problem (softwareproblem).
    You have the following options:
    1. Reinstall your mediaplayer or update it.
    2. install another mediaplayer software like winamp or some other jukebox
    3. ..no further options
Give some feedback, so I can maybe help you with your problem. ;)
    Cheers

  • How to move albums that were saved using windows media player

I have a number of albums that are saved on my computer using windows media player. These were saved before I got itunes. I tried moving some of the albums into itunes but they don't show in tunes. Is there a way to do this rather than read all of the cd's into itunes.
    Thank you

    Sure thing.
In iTunes, go to File -> Add Folder to Library or Add File to Library. Select the folder which contains your music, or select individual tracks.
If in your iTunes settings you have iTunes copy music to it's folder and manage it for you, will then make a copy of the music, and put it into the iTunes location for music. It will even convert WMA files for you, into whatever file format you have under Import Settings in your iTunes preferences.
If in your preferences, itunes does NOT make a copy of your media, then it will simply reference the location it is in currently. If this is the case, then do not move the location of the songs from WMP. However, by default iTunes does make a copy into it's own directory, and if this is the case, you can actually delete the older files, as now you have a copy of these files in your iTunes directory.
    Does this make sense?

  • MP3 plays fine in Win Media Player, but won't import in iTunes

I have this MP3 file in a folder on my hard drive. It plays fine in Win Media Player.
If I "Add the Folder to Library" all other MP3 files in the folder come though fine but this one is left behind.
If I use "Add File to Library" there is just a screen "flicker" but the file is not added.
What could cause this? and how do I get the file into iTunes?
    TIA
    Gert
    Windows XP SP2

Are you certain that the files in question are in fact MP3 files and not some other format?
iTunes can play plain old MP3 files, but it cannot play proprietary schemes with digital rights management built in, and it cannot play WMA files.

  • View IPTV using Windows Media Player

I have a customer who does not want to install Cisco's IPTV viewer on their clients PCs. They would prefer to use Windows Media Player to view both scheduled and VoD streams from their 3427 Broadcast Servers. Is this possible and if so how is it done?
    Thanks,
    R2

    R2,
Couple of things. If you want to stay away from the installed program, you can use the IPTV plugin, which works fine.
Also, the latest versions of IPTV (I think beginning with 5.1) support the Apple Darwin (QT Streaming server) which will allow you to use the QuickTime plugin for the browser for streaming support and is also free.
If you absolutely must use Windows Media, you can do that through the integrated ACNS/IPTV package, but that's not, let's say, fully baked yet.

  • Having trouble using windows media player in a browser

Everytime I try to open streaming video in Safari I get an error message, sometimes I get "Cannot open the file. Verify that the path and filename are correct and try again" and sometimes "error creating unique tmp file". I have installed wmp I don't know how many times but I just can't get rid of this. I tryed this in my friend's mac and it worked fine but mine is giving me trouble. I have also tryed this in other browsers like Omniweb, firefox and even Internet explorer (internut exploder), what can I do?

I do not know why it works on one Mac and not another. From a Microsoft Bulletin:
    Playing protected files
Content providers can protect Windows Media files from unauthorized playback by using a technology called digital rights management (DRM). A Windows Media file that has been assigned digital rights is called a "protected file."
To play a protected file, you must obtain a license (a kind of electronic key) from the content provider. In many cases, the Player can acquire a license for you automatically when you attempt to play the file. In other cases, the content provider may not issue you a license until you pay a fee or provide additional information.
Although it is usually possible to play protected files by using Windows Media Player 9 Series for Mac OS X, in some cases you may encounter one of the following issues:
    * The Player displays the error message "Cannot open the file. Verify that the path and file name are correct and try again." In this case, verifying the path and file name will not solve the problem.
    * A Web page is displayed that informs you that you should upgrade to a newer version of the Player. In this case, you already have the latest version of Windows Media Player for Mac OS X, so upgrading will not solve the problem.
In both cases, there is no way to resolve the issue, and you won't be able to play the file.
However, I have sometimes been able to extract the url for the media file from the page source and put it directly into WMP and then been able to listen to it.

  • Problem using Windows Media Player 10 to put music on my Muvo V

    <FONT face=Century size=3>Please Help
I hvae just bought a Creative Muvo V200 GB. I have tried using Windows Media Player 0 to load songs onto it. It goes through the motions and syncs ok and when I check 'removable' on Windows Media it shows that the songs are on there. However when I turn the MP3 Player on it registers 'no music'
I tried wiping the player by downloading the firmware and starting from scratch but still get the same problem.
Just don't like the layout of Creative so would really appreciate some advice on how to fix Windows Media.

Thanks for that piece of information. Player is definitely working as I have about 20 songs on it through realplayer.
Put a folder of new songs on desktop and a shortcut to my Muvo V200 but when I try to drag and drop it won't let me. All songs on the Muvo are in the root folder. Am I doing it the proper way? I'm afraid I'm a bit moronic when it comes to computers so if you can be patient perhaps you might like to send it again to me idiot speak.
    Really appreciate it

  • Using Windows Media Player, but my phone automatic...

Sorry the description is so confusing.
I have used Windows Media player successfully several times to transfer music to my Nokia 7510.
However, now whenever I plug into my computer, rather than allowing me to choose from 3 options, one of which is "PC suite" another "Media," and I'm not sure the third, it automattically chooses PC Suite. This makes it impossible to download songs.
How can I make it so that I have these three choices at the beginning again?
    Thank you very much
