How to use window programs on mac

im new at using mac and would like to download a program online, that is only compatible with windows.
what do i need, and how can i get the program to work on my mac?

windows programs will only run in a windows environment, and Mac applications will only run in a Mac environment.
To do what you want, you need to install a windows environment on your Mac like parallels;

and then install into it, a windows OS like XP, and then you can run your windows program; which seems a lot of trouble to me, but you can do this.
On the other hand you could just buy a windows laptop, or find an application (that's what Macs call programs) that does the same thing that is written for the Mac.

You have a few choices. Boot Camp from Apple is free and here is the info. You have to boot from boot camp to run windows. It cannot be running at the same time as OS X

The other is parallels. It is not free but has the advantage of running at the same time as you are running OS X. There are still some issues with USB drivers but thye are always working on it. It is not free but worth the cost in my opinion.

I use both to run windows. I use bootcamp for some of the windows games I have that won't run under parallels. I use parallels to check formating and other web based info in internet explorer. I can make a change in my editor and view it easily in windows without having to reboot.
If you are adventuresome there is another option.
Crossover allows you to run a windows program from OSX without windows being installed.

I'm buying a new imac and for the first time i want to run windows programs - specifically an emailer program such as 123hiddensender, absolutefuturity rapid-emailer etc. Do i need any special software to make this run on a mac? What sort of problems am I likely to find? Although i've used macs for many years i'm a complete technophobe. I've been told it's really easy to use windows programs on macs now but how easy is easy? Any advice gratefully accepted.

Then there are VNC clients for Mac/PC that also allow you to actually control the other machine, if they aren't in the same room and you just need to check something quick that can be handy, it's kind of slow though for regular use.
The main benefit of partitioning is being able to have different versions of bootable OS on them. You can try out Leopard on a new partition, while keeping your Tiger partition intact, you can have a XP/Vista partition for parallels or BootCamp, etc... other than that drives are pretty much fast enough, having smaller partitions probably won't realize any significant speed ups over searching the whole large drive.

An external drive is not necessary. There are several options.
One is Parallels
Second is VMware
Third. Partition the hard drive using Boot Camp
Boot Camp Assistant is pre installed on your Mac in your Applications > Utilities folder.
If you use Boot Camp, you will need to purchase a Windows install disc.

Which is a free application similar to Parallels or VMWare. Windows (any version) will run as an application (if that makes sense). Speed can be an issue, as you will be running two OSes, eating a ton of memory.
Bootcamp is ideal if you have a lot of things you need to do in Windows- however, I would HIGHLY recommend finding Mac applications that suite your needs and replacing Windows altogether... I believe that Scheme is not a language natively supported by Xcode. Maybe there is a way to write a plugin for it, but I don't really think so and in particular I haven't seen one for LISP or Scheme.

Came to know that by using program RHMOVE30 it can be done, but can anyone tell me how to use this program, I mean what are the inputs to be given and how to get the transport request.

Yes, normally transports will be moved from DEV to PRD and hope the same configuration is there in u r setup. But if you want to move the transport from PRD to DEV there is a way, but for this you may need to open the client restriction in u r production system (which is not recommended or u have to do this when no user is logged on to the production system).
First make changes in the client settings for enabling transport request generation and execute the program RHMOVE30 and give u r inputs and generate a transport request. Once the request is generated it wil create two files(cofile and datafile folders) in trans folder (/usr/sap/<SID>/trans or <drive>:\usr\sap\<SID>\trans)
Based on the request number copy the cofile and data file from production system and paste it in the same path in development system. Then login to development system from SAP and go to the import queue of development server and then choose EXTRAS->OTHER REQUEST->ADD and this will add that request to development queue and u can transport it normally.
