How to use ZoneView in a JTextArea or JTextPane?

i would like to view an large file (25MB with about 600.000 rows) in a JTextArea or JTextPane. As I know the JTextArea creates for each line of the document at least one object, due to this fact it consumes about 330MB (for the file mentioned above) of memory and is useless. Now i found the ZoneView/AsyncBoxView for displaying and consuming memory only for the zone which has to be displayed. But how can i use the ZoneView in a JTextArea? Any examples?
Thanx,
Oliver

Hi Folks:
I would like some examples of using ZoneView as well. I read 1Mb files and convert them to strings and them attempt to render that entire string onto a JTextPane. As I understand it, ZoneView will improve the time to render the string on the JTextPane.
My code is something like:
final String fileToString = readInput();
textPane.setText(fileToString);
//readInput() is a file reader method
The files (or strings) have upwards of 1000 lines; this takes a coupla minutes to render on a text pane.
Hopefully they will post an example of ZoneView soon. Or maybe put it on the Question of the Week?!

    you can also redefine the textarea's TAB Key behaviour. The tutorial has a good example for that - better than i would be able to describe :-)

  • JNI - How to use the error reporting mechanism?

    I've developed a C++ DLL which is loaded from a commercial Win32 application (not written by me) as a plug-in for external calculations. On its initialization the C++ DLL launches the Java VM via the JNI invocation interface. When the DLL functions are called by the application, they forward the calls to Java objects inside the Java VM, again via JNI invocation interface.
    This works well, but I have encountered a weird error.
    From Java I open a JFrame containing a JTextArea as small console for debug output messages. If I turn output to this debug console off (my printToConsole routine checks whether a boolean flag is set), the string concatenation operator may lead to a crash of the Java VM.
    For example, if in one of the Java functions called from the
    DLL via JNI invocation interface the following is the first statement,
    it leads to a crash of the Java VM and the application that loaded the C++ proxy DLL.
    String test=""+Math.random(); // String test not used later
    Interestingly, if I comment this statement out, the Java code works fine WITHOUT any crash. I've already thought about potential races and synchronization issues in my code, but I don't see where this is the case. And the string concatenation error fails as well, if I insert sleep() statements in front of it and at other places in the code. However, if I turn on log messages printed to my JFrame debug console (containing a JTextArea), the String concatenation works without problems.
    So maybe the JNI interface has a bug and affects the Java VM; I don't see where my JNI code is wrong.
    One problem is that I do not get any stdout output, as the C++ proxy DLL is loaded by the Windows application, even if I start the Windows application from the DOS command line (under Windows).
    Does anyone know how to use the error reporting mechanism?
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/guide/vm/error-handling.html
    Is it possible that the JVM, when it crashes, writes debug information about the crash into a file instead of stdout/stderr?
    My C++ proxy DLL was compiled in debug mode, but the commercial application (which loaded the DLL) is very likely not.
    I do not know hot to find the reason why the String concatenation fails inside the Java function called from the C++ DLL via JNI.

    Yes, I've initially thought about errors in the C++ code too. But the C++ code is actually very simple and short. It doesn't allocate anything on the C++ side. It allocates a couple of ByteBuffers inside the Java VM however via JNI invocation interface calls of env->NewDirectByteBuffer(). The native memory regions accessed via the ByteBuffers are allocated not by my own C++ code, but by the program that calls my DLL (the program is Metastock).
    The interesting thing is that everything works fine if output to my debug console is enabled, which means that in the Java print routine getConsoleLoggingState() returns true and text is appended to the jTextArea.
    static synchronized void print(String str)
    { MetaStockMonitor mMon=getInstance();
    if ( mMon.getFileLoggingState() && mMon.logFileWriter!=null) {
    mMon.logFileWriter.print(str);
    mMon.logFileWriter.flush();
    if ( mMon.getConsoleLoggingState() ) {
    mMon.jTextArea1.append(str);
    Only if output to the JTextArea is turned off (ie. getConsoleLoggingState()==false), the crash happens when the FIRST statement in the Java routine called via JNI invocation interface is a (useless) String concatenation operation, as described above.
    String test=""+Math.random(); // String test not used later
    Moreover, the crash happens BEFORE the allocated ByteBuffer objects are accessed in the Java code. But again, if console output is turned on, it works stable. If console output is turned off, it works when the (useless) String concatenation operation is removed in the Java routine called from C++.
    I've already thought about potential races (regarding multiple threads), but this can be ruled out in my case. It almost appears as if the JVM can have problems when called by the invocation interface (I tested it with Java 1.4.2 b28).
    All the calls between C++ and Java go ALWAYS in the direction from C++ code to Java. Unfortunately, there is no special JRE version with extensive logging capabilities to facilitate debugging. And the problem is not easily reproducible either.

  • Using JCheckBox, JButton and JTextArea with JDBC

    Hello shlumph and SoulTech2012.
    thanks for the reply. Im wondering do any of you have links to web pages that include tutorials and source code on using JCheckBox, JButton and JTextArea with JDBC. would any of you who have experience with using JCheckBox, JButton, JTextArea and JDBC together be able to give me a few tips on how to select certain data from a table using JCheckBox, JButton and display the data in a JTextArea? examples of such data could be CD/DVD/Game data - i want users of my video library system to be able to view CD/DVD/Game information by name, age category, type and year. Users should be able to click on a check box (e.g. view by name, age category, type or year) and press a button. What would happen then is that data from the Product table would appear in the text area (which could be placed beneath the check box + button inside a frame and/or panel).
    Thank you very much for your help.

  • How to use Toolkit.prepareImage()??

    hey,
    I was wondering how to use the prepareImage() method in the Toolkit class. So far i've been using the method just before I paint an image to the screen. Is there any better usage for it. Is my way slowing the painting proccess down?
    here's some sample code
    Image image;
    Toolkit tk;
    public void paint(Graphics g){
            tk.prepareImage(image, 32, 32);
            g.drawImage(image, 0, 0, this);
    }Thanks,

    Do you really want to load the images asynchronously or are you willing to wait?
    If you can wait, javax.imageio.ImageIO is a simpler way to load images.
    And even if you load in a seperate thread, you can do it with ImageIO:

            JTextArea area = new JTextArea(24,80);

  • Can't figure out how to use home sharing

    Since the latest couple iTunes updates, my family and I can not figure out how to use home sharing. Everyone in our household has their own iTunes, and for a long time we would just share our music through home sharing. But with the updates, so much has changed that we can no longer figure out how to use it.
    I have a lot of purchased albums on another laptop in the house, that im trying to move it all over to my own iTunes, and I have spent a long time searching the internet, and everything. And I just can't figure out how to do it. So.... how does it work now? I would really like to get these albums from my moms iTunes, onto mine. I would hate to have to buy them all over again.
    If anyone is able to help me out here, that would be great! Thanks!

    The problem im having is that after I am in another library through home sharing, I can't figure out how to select an album and import it to my library. They used to have it set up so that you just highlight all of the songs you want, and then all you had to do was click import. Now I don't even see an import button, or anything else like it. So im lost... I don't know if it's something im doing wrong, or if our home sharing system just isn't working properly.
    Thanks for the help.

    Batch processing usually involves using actions you have recorded.  In Action you can insert Path that can be used during processing documents.  Path have some size so you may want to only process document that have the same size.  Look in the Actions Palette fly-out menu for insert path.  It inserts|records the current document work path into the action being worked on and when the action is played it inserts the path into the document as the current work path..

    Now i want to do a new back up of my MBP so i open time machine settings, pick the drive on the time capsule and then "Choose" i wait for the beck up to begin, and then it fails.  It says (sorry for my bad english, im swedish haha) "the mount /Volume/Data-1/StiflersMBP.sparsebundle is already in use for back up.

  • ** How to use TO_DATE function in Stored Proc. for JDBC in ABAP-XSL mapping

    Hi friends,
    I use ABAP-XSL mapping to insert records in Oracle table. My Sender is File and receiver is JDBC. We use Oracle 10g database. All fields in table are VARCHAR2 except one field; this is having type 'DATE'.
    I use Stored procedure to update the records in table. I have converted my string into date using the Oracle TO_DATE function. But, when I use this format, it throws an error in the Receiver CC. (But, the message is processed successfully in SXMB_MONI).
    The input format I formed like below:
    <X_EMP_START_DT hasQuot="No" isInput="1" type="DATE">
    Value in Payload is like below.
    <X_EMP_START_DT hasQuot="No" isInput="1" type="DATE">TO_DATE('18-11-1991','DD-MM-YYYY')</X_EMP_START_DT>
    Error in CC comes as below:
    Error processing request in sax parser: Error when executing statement for table/stored proc. 'SP_EMP_DETAILS' (structure 'STATEMENT'): java.lang.NumberFormatException: For input string: "TO_DATE('18"
    Friends, I have tried, but unable to find the correct solution to insert.
    Kindly help me to solve this issue.
    Kind Regards,

    (But, the same is working fine if we use direct method in ABAP-XSL ie. not thru Stored Procedure)

    Hi Sinha,
    Thanks for your reply.
    I used the syntax
    <xsl:call-template name="date:format-date">
       <xsl:with-param name="date-time" select="string" />
       <xsl:with-param name="pattern" select="string" />
    </xsl:call-template>
    in my Abap XSL.  But, its not working correctly. The problem is 'href' function to import "date.xsl" in my XSLT is not able to do that. The system throws an error. Moreover, it is not able to write the command 'extension-element-prefixes' in my <xsl:stylesheet namespace>
    May be I am not able to understand how to use this.
    Anyway, I solved this problem by handling date conversion inside Oracle Stored Procedure. Now, its working fine.
    Thank you.

  • Sender Mail Adapter - S/MIME - How to use it?

    Hi guys,
    I am trying to figure out how to use the S/MIME security parameter of the Sender Mail Adapter in PI 7.1.
    Could anyone point me to some useful documentation/examples/blogs ?
    Or perhaps explain what steps are involved when configuring this parameter?
    We are pulling emails from an Microsoft Exchange server.
    Many thanks,
    Aldo

    First of all one sender mail adapter has to be tight with a specific sender email address.
    The email has to be decrypted as whole, you cannot decrypt parts of it.
    Then you store certificates to secure store in J2EE server and point to it in send agreement, this should be equal to HTTPS setup
    Check security guide:
