  • How to video podcast???!?!?

    Greetings,
I have searched all over the web on how to do a video podcast. The only 'answers' I have found have been sites that want you to pay to learn how, and Apple's own site which basically shows you how to export the video....which is NOT the hard part
    They also have the following....
"You can publish the exported file to the Internet as an enclosure on a blogging service, such as Blogger, and wrapped in a podcast-friendly RSS feed. (Please note: the file must be hosted on a web server such as .Mac.) RSS feed providers, such as FeedBurner, make it easy to create an RSS file from your blog."
Does anyone speak whatever language that is in? If you do please help translate for me I am SOOO lost. (Apple should make a podcasting iApp)
    Thanks for any help!!!
    Ray

All podcasts take RSS feeds. This is a special format language like html for web pages. There are special itunes tags to add if you wish it to show up in itunes.
The raw approach is to upload your audio or video files to an ftp site (or .mac)
Then create an RSS feed using one of the free/shareware programs for the Mac. These will output a file that you can upload to the same site. There are also php files that can do this automatically but this is a web programming language.
A link to this rss file is submitted to iTunes and other podcast directories.
Everytime you add a file you need to update the rss file.
Here's what a lot of people do:
First find a host to upload your video to. That can be .mac or other location.
.Mac is easier to upload but you can use CyberDuck (free ftp program for the Mac) to upload to any other site. Upload a 300 x 300 pixel artwork to this same area.
Create a blog at blogger. (it's free) Create a Post and put in the http://yourmovieurl.m4v in the link below the post. Write a few sentences.
Sign up for feedburner (free once again)
Give feedburner your blogger address and click on podcast.
Go to feedburner area for your site and turn on SmartCast. Fill in info about your podcast.
You now have a feed from feedburner. Use Feemedic and podmedic at feedburner to check.
it is rather round about. (would be great to have one place that did it all)
One nice thing is once it's set up you can upload a file and then create a simple blog with the link. The blog can be your web page where people can read more info or access files directly. Once you create a post on blogger feedburner is autoupdated which in turn updates itunes and other podcast directories and applications.
feedburner also gives you info on number of viewers/listeners.
One item to note with video is you have to make sure the host site handles mime types for your video formats.
.mp4 = video/mpeg, etc Most don't handle mp4 or m4v so check with the hosting company.

  • Can't play video podcasts in the album view box in iTunes 8

I can't figure out how play video podcasts in the album view box (bottom left hand side) in the new iTunes 8. I could do it before w/7 but I don't remember what option I had checked off.
    Thanks in advance

Let me know what you find out. I bought the new 80Gb ipod and I am having the same problem on long podcasts. It just reboots.

  • How to delete video podcast without using iTunes

My Mac is G5 PPC, OSX 10.4.11, so cannot use
iTunes to sync Ipad; so is there a way of deleting downloaded video podcasts from the iPad?
When headphone is connected to the iPad, should the internal speaker not be automatically disconnected like on the iPod?

    makam wrote:
Appreciate suggestion, but does not work. Maintaining touch on the title, highlight the video, no delete check mark appears; letting go start the video playing again.
Kappy's suggestion doesn't work for me either. Just go into the iPod App, click on Podcasts, and swipe to the right. You should get a "Delete" block on the right. That's how it works on my iPad.

  • How do I prevent videos/video podcasts from showing up in my music library?

    You don't.

  • How do I sync my iPod without grabbing the Video Podcasts from my iTunes?

    Hi,
I have searched and could not find the answer to this problem.
Anyway, I have a 5th gen iPod and am running it on a Mac with the latest iTunes. On the iPod options pane, I have selected to update only the selected Podcasts. I am leaving the podcasts that I do not want on my iPod (but want to keep on my Mac) unselected.
Now although it is true that the unselcted Podcasts to not appear in the Podcast section of my iPod, the files are still there and can be found by artist, album, etc.
How can I get around this? Basically, I have a few gigs of Video Podcasts that I do not want to carry on the iPod but do want o keep on my Mac in iTunes.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Try going into iTunes preferences and click on the iPod icon (pod has to be linked up) and choose to "manually" update iPod. Will this help?

  • How do you Chapter Video Podcasts in Final Cut Pro Studio 2

I am in final cut pro studio 2. I have my video setup like I want. I placed Markers and labeled them as chapters. But when I try to export i just get a chapterless video. How on earth do i get this to work. I tried exporting with Compressor and exporting with Quicktime pro. I just want to make a chaptered video podcast why is it so darn hard to do so? I went hunting everywhere on the net and nothing explains just how to do it in Final Cut Pro. Everything is iMovie this iMovie that .... well sorry, but I don't want to use stinking iMovie.
Sorry for venting I'm just really aggravated because I have tried four different things hoping it would work but each export which is two hours of wasted time that I fall more behind.

    Hi Patrick,
My FCP experience is limited - I write software add-ons for it, but I don't edit. I remember this issue coming up before though. QuickTime has the ability to create chapter tracks, but you can't do this from markers in FCP. (I used to do it with the great QuickTime editor in Adobe GoLive.)
The chapter tracks in .mp4 video are similar but different to the QuickTime chapter tracks, so I assume that the FCP markers won't work. Frustrating!
Why don't you try out PodcastMaker free for 30 days: http://www.lemonzdream.com/podcastmaker/ This software is very easy to use and (outside of Garageband) is the easiest way to add chapter tracks to a podcast, and even though it's an extra step, it will help you with the podcasting side of the workflow you'll eventually be faced with.

  • How do I create a self-contained video podcast for download?

I have a series of videos from a conference I taped years ago that I want to make availanble to people as a digital download. I have purchased some training coruses from places like Ripple that send you an e-mail with a link to the download the course material. Clicking on it opens up iTiunes and downloads the entire training course as a Podcast (video). So it is not hosted on iTunes and is self-contianed to download all "eppisodes."
How is this done? How is this created so I can post it on a server and have people download it? Auto-instal to iTunes would be nice if easily acheivable.
    Thanks.

This page explains how to create a podcast:
    http://rfwilmut.net/pc
It's written with audio podcasts in mind, but there's little difference in making a video podcast. Your video files must be .mp4, .m4v or .mov, not .wma or .swf (Flash).
In the 'enclosure' tag the 'type attribute must be as follows for the different file types:
    .mp4
    video/mp4
    .m4v
    video/x-m4v
    .mov
    video/quicktime
Most podcast creation programs or service will handle that for you, so it's probably only relevant if you are handwriting the feed.

  • How do I open a video podcast in a separate window?

I used to have it set so I can open a video podcast in a separate window and then close it and have the main window STILL open in back of it...
Now I don't see and pref for that in 10.4.1
Any idea how to do this?

I haven't figured that out yet.  Each video played in a seprate window seems to take on the size of the video's original size.  You won't have that problem if you choose to play them back in the iTunes window, or full screen. Then, they all play the same size, but you have to click the circled X that appears in the top left corner when you first move cursor into the video window or move it within the video window to see the main window again.

  • How to create a Video Podcast?

    Hi,
I have a question about how to create a Video Podcast.
What I like to do is record what I can see ON my screen. And I don't want to use a Video Cam to make Videos of it.
If anyone knows how to to that or if there is an application I could use it would be great.
What I am looking for more or less is an App like Audio HiJack Pro - well more like a Video HiJack Pro. The question is not about how to do the encoding once I have the Video.
Any ideas? Any would be great. Just tell me how its done and what I need to buy.
    Thanks a lot
    LaForge

    LaForge,
I use Snapz Pro X by Ambrosia Software.
I've made some video podcasts of tutorials of iMovie for my work, and you can see them here: http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=74837876
The video gets jerky when capturing the video within iMovie, but it may be because I only have 512 MB of RAM. But for just capturing stuff like opening folders and what not, it will do the trick.

  • Video podcasts suddenly regarded as music in iTunes: how can I fix this?

    Hi everyone,
OK I've looked around for some time now, but the answer does not seem to be out there.
After a recent iTunes upgrade, all my video podcasts were treated by iTunes as music podcasts.
    What I mean by that:
    - TV icon is missing next to the file in iTunes
    - Right click says "mark as played" instead of "mark as watched"
    - Available Media Kinds are "Music, Podcast, iTunes U, Audiobook & Voice Memo" instead of "Music Video, TV Programe, Film, Podcast & iTunes U"
    - "Part of gapless album" ticking box is not greyed
    - Those files are absent from the "Video Playlists" on my iPod classic
However, video podcasts downloaded after the upgrade behave normally! See image below: first video podcast is fine, the others are not.
This is puzzling me because the old files all have "MPEG-4 video file" as "Kind" and "Podcast" as "Media Kind", just like the new ones.
Anyone knows what's wrong here? and how to fix it?
Thanks a lot for your help
    Romain

Are you talking about using iTunes music for a slide show?  If so you need to go to iTunes, file, library, reorganize files and then it will work.

  • VIDEO PODCAST WITH iWEB-how to deal with huge file size

    Hello folks,
I have created simple website for my video podcast. It all works fine, except one problem. I had used just small video clips for now, just for testing... and it takes long time for website to download. I can't even imagine, how slow it will be, when I have full 15 video episodes within my website. So I am wondering, is there any way of how to maintain that cool iWeb podcast structure (with podcast page, entry page and archive page) but not to embed those videos onto the page, but instead, play it externally? I have tried to just post the link to the video clip, but than "publish to the folder alternative" does not create correct rss.xml feed, because it does not know where those clips are. So it doesn't work in iTunes.
Any suggestions? Thanks for any input or advise.

    Hello,
unfortunately, no answer yet. The only solution I can think of, is to create a Blog instead of Podcast, then post hyperlink to your video file on entry page. That way, the actual video is not embeded on that webpage, but it only downloads when someone clicks on it. That way you probably won't be able to use subscribe button and RSS subscribe button, but you can create your own Feed with Feed For All software (http://www.feedforall.com), put it on your domain, then post it's URL on your website. So if someone wants to subscribe to your podcast, he will copy that address and paste it into the iTunes or some other podcast readers.
I am a beginner, so this most likely is not the best solution, however, it works so far.
    Good Luck

Actually, my guess is that you just haven't enables "Fast Start" under the streaming setting when you encoded your movie with QT Pro (or Apple's Compressor if you're using FCP.)
Try this: Open your original (before compression) movie in QT. Choose Export>Movie to QuickTime Movie>Options
Then below the sound settings is a checkbox that says "Prepare for Internet Streaming". Check it and choose "Fast Start" from the drop-down.
This will allow your movie to begin playing as it downloads. I'll bet currently it is not enabled and iTunes is waiting until the ENTIRE movie is downloaded before it begins playback. This will make it feel like it's not going to play. Does iTunes give you a dialog window that says, "Loading..."?
I just checked with the help file and it says you can enable Fast Start on movies that are already in their compressed format by simply opening the movie in QT, and then choosing "Save As">"Save as a self-contained movie". Apparently when you do this it automatically flags the movie for streaming and saves you the trouble of re-compressing all of your posted episodes. Try it on one of the old episodes and then reload it to your server and test in iTunes!
    Good luck!

  • How to post a video podcast

I have audio podcasts but how do I post a video podcast to iTunes

The same way you do the audio file - just upload the file to your current host - If they support video - and the post the episode just like you would audio.
Some Hosts are audio only - but other podcast hosts - like libsyn.com - do support both Audio and video files.
