How to view actual size as in real life at 100%?

I am designing the user interface for an iPhone app using Adobe Illustrator CS4. The screen size of the iPhone 4 is 640x960px, which I have entered as the artboard size. The problem here is that at 100% zoom in Illustrator, I do not see the actual iPhone screen size as how it would look like in real life, rather I see it much larger (around x3 if not more). The resolution of the monitor I am working on is 1680x1050. Does this issue of getting the actual size of 640x960px have anything to do with my monitor resolution/size? How can I see the actual size of 640x960 on my monitor at 100% without resorting to manual methods such as placing a ruler on the monitor, etc.
Please advise, I would greatly appreciate your help.

I believe it actually calculates your screen resolution and then displays the the illustrated profile as actual size.

  • View Actual Size in Adobe Programs

I noticed that viewing images in Actual Size in every programs appear smaller that what they are supposed to be. Is there a work around for it? I'm printing a packaging and I really need to see on screen what it will actually turn out to be like in real life.

The problem is that there is usually no way to calibrate the on-screen rulers to real world inches. The one app I know that provides a way is Photoshop. If you open Photoshop's preferences, and go to Units and Rulers, and plug your Screen Resolution into the provided box. To determine your Screen Resolution you must divide the width or height of your screen by the number of pixels. This will result in a Pixels per Inch number, which is what you plug in. Once that is done, you can use the View/Print Size command in Photoshop and it will size correctly.

  • Viewing "Actual Size"

    HI,
I've always wondered why, if I set the screen view to "Actual Size" or even 100%, that if measured against a ruler put up to the monitor, it does not correspond. Is there a view or setting that can do this without me zooming in or zooming out and measureing with a ruler every time? (I'm feeling this might be so simple I'm going to once again be embarrassed....
    Thanks.

You are totally misunderstanding me. The units ID uses internally are postscript points which are 72 per inch. It makes no difference what ruler units you use, at 100% ID is going to base the view on showing you the equivalent of 72 postscript points in the size it "believes" represents one inch, which is calculated by checking the number of pixels being displayed and dividing by the reported system resolution (I'm making a presumption, here).
Two different monitors may both be running at 1920 x 1200, for example but if one is a 24 " and the other is 27" the apparent size of what is on screen is going to be very different, even though Windows or OS X is using the same value for resolution in the OS. ID can't tell the physical dimensions of your monitor, so it displays the rulers using the same calculations on both monitors, and the size will be wrong, but differently wrong, on each one, unless the the "true" resolution of the monitor -- the number of pixels displayed divided by the physical size of the display -- is exactly 72.
In order to find the correct zoom level for a lifesize view you need to calculate that "true" monitor resolution and divide it by 72, the number of postscript points you want to display in one real inch of monitor space. It has nothing whatever to do with 72 ppi or 96 ppi beyond what those numbers may be doing to affect the size of the pixels on the screen, and you don't need to know what number the OS is using.
The second post was probably my misunderstanding you. Again, I don't believe the system resolution is particularly relevant. It's a constant, or at least can be treated as a constant, and your display depends on the physical size of the monitor and the number of pixels it displays. I keep hearing that Windows uses 96 ppi, and I don't understand where that number is even useful, if it has a real meaning, or is simply a relative value and not truly tied to a physical dimension (which is what I suspect). The number of pixels that will be displayed in an inch in your browser will still be determined by the same monitor resolution value/physical size calculation, modified by any zoom factor.
The same 600px wide image displayed in the same browser using the same settings will use the same proportion of the screen regardless of the physical dimensions of the screen if two monitors are set to the same resolution. If you change the monitor resolution setting, the image will be rendered larger or smaller and will take up a greater or lesser part of the total browser window.

  • How to print actual size in CS3

Hi I am interested to print my figure which is fully scaled to millimeters units. When I open my figure in photoshop it looks perfectly scaled. but when I sent this figure to print, first I uncheck SCale to Fit Media and scale to 100% so that no further scaling will be done... Now when I send this to print , it gives me very small size.
Scaling is critical in my case as I MUST have to print what is the actual scale.. Even decimals in millimeters cause error to me..How can I do this help me please
    Please please please help me
    Thanks

It was the 3rd "please" that pushed me over the edge.    Just kidding.
How far off from proper size is your print coming out (actual measurements vs. expected)?
Are there any settings in the printer driver itself (available through the [Print Settings...] button) such as "borderless print" or other scaling options that have inadvertently been set?
Are the values for Height and Width exactly what you expect, considering the type of unit (e.g., cm or mm) displayed in the Units field?  For me, an image listed as 4.75 x 5 with Units: inches prints exactly at that size.
What kind of printer is it?  Are any updates available for the driver from the manufacturer (e.g., on their web site)?

  • How to view image size compared to Page size

In previous versions if you clicked the bottom left onthe frame of an image where the document size is you would get a small popup of an outline of the image size compared to the current page size. I cannot figure out how to see this in the new CS4 version. I've tried everything, help!

    Hello Heiko,
I don't know, if it is possible, but I would say,
it's not implemented yet. Maybe you can change the picture size and use then the pictures, that might be a workaround, if you can't change the height and width in VC.

  • How to view file size of imported photo

i plan to import a number of large photos from iphoto. i hesitate because each photo is between 20 and 50 MB. Will iweb scale this file down while importing? How can i find out about it? I did not find file information on the imported photo nor do i know the file location of the website project on my mac harddisk.
Do I have to use third party software like Photoshop to scale the size down and afterwards import them into iphoto and iweb?
    Thank You,
    Harpo

I think you should DEFINITELY scale your images down before importing them or dragging and dropping them into iWeb! If your images are in iPhoto, then you can use the "Export" command in iPhoto to export your images and specify what resolution they should be scaled to.
One of the issues I have with the iPhoto export function is that you have no control over the amount of JPG compression in the exported photos, which has a direct relationship to the resulting file size. So I like to use a program called "Downsize" http://www.stuntsoftware.com/Downsize/ which will allow you to specify maximum image dimensions as well as JPG compression. You will also then be able to check how large the resulting files are in the Finder before using them in iWeb.
Whenever you are scaling photos for use in iWeb, it's important to realize that any additional changes that you make to the photos in iWeb will cause the image to be converted from jpg to png. This may impinge on your ability to control the filesizes directly. The way to get around this is to scale your photos to exactly the size you want and then after dragging them into iWeb, click on the "Use original size" button in the Inspector Metrics tab. Also, don't apply any other effects to your images like rotation, frames, drop shadows... If you want these, you should do these in external applications as well. These are my recommendations only if you want to have complete control over your filesizes. It's certainly not required.
But as far as your 50mb images go, definitely scale them down before bringing them into iWeb. Otherwise, iWeb will rescale the images for you, but it will ALSO throw a copy of your 50mb file into your Domain file to refer to in publishing. This would cause your Domain file to balloon in size quite rapidly. To put things into perspective for you on this, the Domain file for my entire site is only 80mb.

  • How to view actual email address in inbox

In the From column of my inbox, for the most part I just get the name of the person or place sending an email. I want to be able see their actual email address. I cannot find in view or settings anywhere that I can enable this. I only use Gmail. If I go directly to Gmail (not using Apple Mail) then I can see the email address. Can someone please help and let me know if this is possible. I have tried searching but no luck.

  • Exchange 2013 - EMC 2013 - View Mailbox Size With Column In EMC - How To View Mailbox Size Exchange 2013?

Is there a way to add a column to show each users mailbox size in the EMC for Exchange 2013 under recipients > mailboxes?
Such a simple tool would be so much easier for administrative purposes.

    Hi,
There is no way to add the column of mailbox size back to EAC in Exchange 2013, I don't know why this option is removed and there is no official document explaining this issue.
To get the mailbox size, we can use commands to get it.
    Thanks for your understanding.

  • How can I actually talk to a real human being who is willing to listen to my issue instead of trying to tell me I need to update all three of my phones or buy new ones?

I was a perfectly happy verizon customer for the past twenty years or so, including the wireless phone service at my home where I have lived for the past 14 years. Several months ago the service at my home just went to crap. We can no longer use our phones inside our home at all, we have to go outside to make or receive calls and even then they constantly drop. Incoming calls to our phones roll straight to voice mail and the phones never ring. Even when we do go outside to talk, we get one or occasionally two bars, but the signal is mostly one bar or none. We used to get awesome reception for many years.  It is not our phones, my daughter cannot use her verizon phone at our house, my mother cannot use her verizon phone at our house, my sister cannot use her verizon phone at our house (she works for Verizon, Hawaii). I have tried for months now to get past the basic "you need to update your phone software", "you need to go to a store to have your phone checked", and "you need to buy new phones".
I would like to also add that we live in a rural area with no recent construction or anything else that might cause interference. We do not have any problems with our phones if we drive a mile down the road toward local tower. Something has happened that reduced the service at our home. I am now patiently waiting for my contract to end so that we can move to T-mobile or ATT, both of which which pick up very well in our home, unless someone has a solution to our problem that is not one of the three already mentioned above.

I understand the importance of ensuring you have reliable service at all times Big_Bubba. Allow us to get to the bottom of your signal concerns. Unfortunately, with any carrier we can not guarantee signal inside a home, building, etc. due to home infrastructure. However, we do offer an accessory that may help boost signal in and around your home. For further information regarding our Network Extender click, http://vz.to/1vV6qON

  • How set document spread view as  Actual Size ?

    Hi Experts
When I create my InDesign file on MAC OS, It is not in actual size.
I want to set its View Actual Size using script.
    I try
    #target indesign
    var myDocument = app.activeDocument;
    var MyLayout=myDocument.layoutWindows();
    var MylayoutWindow=MyLayout.lastItem();
    MylayoutWindow.zoom=2053206906;

  • How to preserve original size when converting to PDF in Preview.

I'm using Preview in Snow Leopard.
Trying to create multipage PDFs from document scans.
I'm finding that when the scanned image (tiff, png, jpg) is converted to PDF in Preview the size reduces.
Selecting 'View actual size' shows the image with sometimes drastically impaired quality.
This does not always happen. I have some images that stay the same size and quality.
What factors cause this reduction in size in some images but not in others?
I'm not sure but this could be only images that have been scanned by me. If so, what do I need to do to prevent the problem?
These are not large images, just standard size pages.
I have all the preferences to view at 100%
This is not for printing, only for viewing on-screen.

    Please!!
    I'm not silly...
As I said, selecting View actual size shows the image with sometimes drastically impaired quality (regardless of the window size).
I also said I have preferences set to view at 100%
It now seems as if this is only happening with scans I've made here.
Images downloaded from the internet are converting indentically, no problem. But my scans are being resized when converting.
I wonder if anyone with a bit of technical know-how can give me some clues as to why this is happening. It would seem to be something to do with the file itself.
(There was another post on here with the same problem but for some reason its been 'archived' though the last posting was this month and the query was not answered. So I've posted the question again.)

  • Displayed page size - Actual Size

    Hi,
When I set View > Zoom to "Actual Size", the Zoom factor is shown as 100%,
but Pages displays my page smaller than the actual size (about 66% width).
When I change the Zoom factor to 152% Pages shows the real page width.
BTW When I export this page to PDF, open it in Preview and select View > Actual Size
I see the page in its real, correct size.
I'm still using Pages version 4.3 (1048). Is it the same with a later version of Pages?
    Many thanks.
    27" iMac (2560 x 1440 pixel)

Thanks, this works, but I see the page now in 152% zoomed view (though this should be the actual size = 100% view).
After inserting a small image (PNG file, 29 x 20 pixel) in this view, the image is also displayed
152% larger than required, even though the size under Inspector > Metrics (shown as 1.02 cm x 0.71 cm)
is described as "Original Size" (the "Original Size" button is shown grayed).
So in thisview (which I need), what can I do so that my image will be displayed in its original size (29 x 20 pixel)?
(Manipulating the image's dpi (PNG or TIFF) didn't help.)

  • "actual size" isn't in Pages

In pages, when I view "actual size" I get about 75% on the monitor (measuring the rulers). Can this be calibrated? Thanks.

Actually size isn't actual size anywhere in computing devices.
Nobody has done it yet but what is needed is a system file that calculates real world dimensions from the set resolution of the device screen and then adjust the UI accordingly.
Apple could lead the pack here and should because it has extremely high resolution monitors on the iMac 27" which are causing the UI in Finder to be ridiculously small.
