How to view downstream / upstream signal strength?

Hello, Can someone please post the method of entering the hidden menu on the Xfinity DVR / Television equipment that displays the downstream / upstream signal strength (dBmV). I am in need of checking these signals for troubleshooting an issue. Thanks!

Update: Directions below, however the fields never populate with answers once in the menu. 1. Hold down exit button for more than 5 seconds
2. Press the down arrow twice
3. Press 2
4. Down to system and select DOCSIS *Downstream received should be between 8 and -8
Downstream SNR should be over 35
Upstream Power should be between 35 and 51

  • I just purchased a wireless connection for my Tivo but the signal strength from my airport express does not allow the tivo to load data. How do I increase the signal strength?

I just purchased a wireless N network adapter for the TIVO premier and am trying to use my apple airport express to connectand it  is in the another room. I am only receiving one  bar of strength on my network adapter. How can I raise the signal strength of my airport express.

There are several things that might help, not all of which would be feasible depending on your situation:  (1) Move the TiVo unit and AirPort Express closer together.  (2) Use another AirPort Express to "extend" the network of the first AirPort Express.  Put the second AirPort Express half way between the first AirPort Express and the TiVo unit.  (3) In the general case, Power-Line equipment might allow the TiVo unit to get a good signal, but it's likely that the Ethernet port of your AirPort Express is probably connected to your broadband modem, so that solution wouldn't work for you.  (4) Changing the band or channel that the AirPort Express is using might help.  If the TiVo unit is connection on the 5 GHz band, try one of the three-digit channels, which are allowed to use higher power.

  • How to view change in signal over specified time

I'm trying to create a .vi that will view an incoming signal (temperature or pressure, in this case), compare it to data over a specified amount of time, find the delta, and if it fits into a set range, output a true boolean.
In real terms, I want to view a temperature over, say, the last five minutes, and if the delta is less than two degrees, light up a boolean.
I know I'll need the elapsed time module, with a control multiplied by sixty for the "time target", and the "time has elapsed" as the boolean control. I'm assuming it will also look at a comparison between the present values and the values stored in an array and if it's outside the specified delta it will output a true value to the "reset". This will also have to reset the array, is my assumption.
I'm new to programming in general, and LabVIEW, so that's about as far as I got in the logic before I decided to see what the forums have to offer.
    Thanks,
    -Ian

Is this steps in the right direction? Seems like it should work, anyone see any flaws here?

  • How to increase Airport Extreme signal strength

I post this in the way of advice, which anyone is free to accept or ignore.
I recently switched to Comcast ("triple play") from an in-complex Ethernet internet system. On my Mac Pro (MP), using speedtest.net, I attained download speeds of at least 22 Mbps. Very fast, I must say. However, I noticed that my Mac Book Pro (MBP) speeds were considerably slower, sometimes only a tenth of those on the MP. I am happy to report that after some reconfiguration I'm attaining almost identical speeds between the MP and MBP. What did I do?
I had initially configured the Airport Extreme (AEx) to operate at 802.11n with 5 Ghz only. Using iStumbler, I discovered that my signal strength was a bit under 60% and the "noise" was 13%. Other wireless devices appearing in the iStumbler window (we live in a downtown apartment complex) showed the "noise" levels at 9%--across the board. I fiddled with the location of my cordless phone (5.4 GHz) and even disconnected it. There was no change in the noise level. I moved the MBP up against the AEx and, while the signal strength increased, upwards of 70%, the noise level remained the same--at 13%.
So, I reconfigured the AEx to 802.11n (b/g compatible). Voila. Not only did the noise drop to 9%, just like the other devices, but the download speeds on the MBP zoomed to around 20 Mbps, or just about the same as the MP.
Too boost the MBP speeds even further I set up an Airport Express (AE) right next to where I use my MBP. I configured it to extend my wireless network.
By the way, I have my MP connected directly to the AEx via Ethernet. The AEx is directly connected to the cable modem. I configured my wireless network as "closed," using interference robustness. I left the multicast rate in default mode, which is 2 Mbps. Transmit power is at 100%.
What I seemed to have learned from this experience is NOT to use the 5 GHz only setting on an AEx, if one wants maximum Internet download speeds. (This seems counterintuitive, I know, because the theoretical limit of 5 GHz is 300 Mbps under 802.11n and "only" 54 Mbps using the 2.5 GHz setting.)

Purchase another Apple AirPort Base Station such as the $99 Express to "wirelessly extend" your AirPort wireless network.

  • How to test my Airport signal strength?

    Hi,
My Airport icon in the top menu bar of my Mac Pro has always been at full bars, but recently it has started dropping, sometimes to 3 bars and sometimes none.
Is there an application or something i can download that tests speed and strenght etc?
I'm running 10.5.7 and recently switched to a BT home hub but i have a sneaky feeling the issues have come after the 10.5.7 update?

After updating to 10.5.7, it killed my wireless connection. At 10.5.5 I was averaging 5 Mb/s download, after the 10.5.7 update it tops out at 1-2 Mb/s and very, very unstable connection. The internet times-out on page almost every 5 mins.
I have tested this thoroughly running different clone backups, adding airport utility updates, etc. Nothing has worked, so for now I have been forced to revert back to 10.5.5
Test your connection under different versions if you can. Use speedtest.net or speakeasy.net
This really s ucks though, cause I want to upgrade my video card which requires 10.5.7. Slow internet or faster graphics If apple doesn't fix this, I the only fix is going wired.

  • How to improve signal strength of TC ?

I have replaced my Linksys WRT54G Router yesterday with my TC 1TB.
Setup was a little bit confusing and not Apple like as i expected. However i got TC running with the following setup:
-) the TC is connected to my broadband modem and my main imac via ethernet. TC stands on the floor in the corner of our dinning room.
-) via airport i connected the MB and my second imac
-) Airport connection is set to "802.11n only 2,4 Ghz" with 22 Mbit/s
-) I get good signal strength from TC via my Macbook (located in the same room)70% singal strength according to istumbler
-) i get only 40% signal strength on my new imac which is located 2 rooms away - doors are usually closed between the rooms, and the roomwalls are 15-20 cm brick walls. On my systemmonitor i see max 2 MBit/s transfer rate sometimes even less.
    Question:
How can i improve the signal strength of TC? Where is the best place to put it in a room ? Should i avoid placing it on the floor ?
    Any other suggestions are welcome

Channel selection can make all the difference, 1 , 6 and 11 are the most widely used by professionals because they have less interference from the other channels. But they are widely used so two AP's can interfere with each other if they are on the same channel and in range of your devices. 2-5, 7-10 are garbage channels, too much interference (can tell from a good sniffer card)...stick with 1 or 11 which ever is less used (or not at all) in your area and mount it as high as you can and centered in the area you are providing coverage for. I found the TC uses its auto-setting pretty well, I have a lot of channels 1 and 6 in my neighborhood and it has always been on 11 when I check its status.
Also walls, doors, metal, windows, coordless phones (2.4Ghz) or 5Ghz) and microwaves all cause signal loss and interference. The density of the material will attribute how much loss there is so yes, brick will cause signal loss.

  • AP signal strength

    Hi All,
How to get the received signal strength of an access point. Is there is any command?. I have 2 APs in bridge mode. I know the transmitted power (100 mw). I am getting intermittent link failure. To analysis the problem I need to know the received singnal power. How can I find the received power of the other AP? Please help me.
    Thanks
    Anand

    Hi,
Additional Info: To view the recieved signal strength using a web configuration utility
go to Cluster > Session and select a item from the display dropdown list
here it displays several fields including the received signal strength as Received Signal Strength Indication
(RSSI) ranging between 0 and 100.

Um, NO. Radio Waves travel at 300,000,000 meters per second, approximately the speed of light, Actually they travel AT the speed of light, which is approximately 300E6 meters per second in vacuum.
Of course the speed of light is itself affected by the medium through which the radiation is travelling, usually meaning that the actual speed will be slightly lower than the speed in vacuum (though I think I read somewhere of an experiment leading in at least one case to a speed faster than that in vacuum, don't know whether that was ever reliably replicated). It seems to me that that is approximately the speed of light--300E6==300,000,000--unless you want to put qualifiers onto it--like STP or in a a vacuum.your post could have been interpreted as stating that radio waves travel at approximately the speed of light and that they travel at 300 million meters per second ;)

  • How can I query signal strength FROM an Aironet 1200 AP?

We are trying to query the signal strength of each connected client on Aironet 1200 APs from the AP.
Does anyone know of a way to achieve this?
We have examined the MIB documentation for an SNMP solution and have not found the reqired OID/MIB. This solution would be preferable, but at this point we are open to ideas.
    Thank you.

Thank you and a follow up ...
Why is no data displayed in the Aironet 1200 SNMP MIB browse web interface when querrying this oid?
When I do a MIB browse from the SNMP web interface on an Aironet 1200 to OID 1.3.6.1.4.1.522.3.12.5.1.9 I do not receive any data in the MIB browse display. The extended statistics in awcTpFdbTable is enabled.

  • 1242AP how to check signal strength

I have a 1242 set up as a bridge tied to a solid dish. About 3 miles away I have 3 yagis set up as a non bridge working fine. I set a forth yagi say 800 ft away from a working yagi and the siginal works for a few minutes and then shuts down so I mounted a 50 ft. tower same problem so i replaced the yagi with a solid dish yesterday and my connection lasted the day and this morning it was down again.
There has to be a way to see the signal strength but I don't see it in the configuration. I swaped the unit with the one at a working location and it works just fine. The only thing I haven't done is try a different cable. I'm using a 100ft premade cable from Cisco.
    Any help is greatly appriciated
    Thanks
    DKD

    show dot11 associations all
typically shows signal strength, and SNR along with a few otehr details when users connect.. While i have no experience with bridges, i would expect that this would have the same effect.
    Hope it works for you.

  • How to measure LTE signal strength?

Ive used LabView for years but have been away a while.  so much is new.    Can the USRP be used for testing LTE mobile signal strength? and decode various fields like mibs and sibs? signal to noise?  CIR?  if not, is there something that is able to?
    thanks

    Hello Bradley,
Here is a short video showcasing one application involving NI Software Defined Radio for an 8x8 LTE MIMO, along with an article describing the application:
    http://zone.ni.com/wv/app/doc/p/id/wv-2864
    http://www.ni.com/white-paper/14311/en
    http://electronicdesign.com/4g/getting-ready-8x8-mimo
There is a lot of additional information about USRP available at the following sites:
    http://www.ni.com/sdr/
    http://www.ni.com/usrp/
    http://www.ni.com/white-paper/8787/en
Note that the LTE application above utilized the FlexRIO with FPGA in their system.  Using the FPGA allows you to fully customize your I/O to match the needs of your application, such as ensuring you have the bandwidth to handle LTE.  USRP products have tunable center frequency options from 50 MHz to 6 GHz, which includes the frequency spectrum of LTE measurements.  What exactly do you want to try and do with USRP and LTE?  Are there any products in particular that you are interested in?
