How to view "From" header field in OUTgoing messages in Mail? Frustrating.

In Mail v.4.3 (in OSX 10.6.4), I need to view the "From" field in my outgoing messages as I am composing them. However, there seems to be no setting in Mail which allow this.
I find this very frustrating because in Eudora (which I used to use), the "From" field in outgoing messages is visible by default. But in Mail, not only is it not visible by default, there seems to be no way to make it visible.
In the "Customize..." button to the left of the Subject field in outgoing messages, one has the option to add as default outgoing message fields "cc," "bcc," "Reply-To," and "Subject," but none of those are what I want. It allows one to also view the address of the mail server, but that also is not what I'm looking for. What I want is to see my outgoing +email address+. And nowhere is there an option in the Preferences to turn this on. (At least as far as I could tell.)
In fact, the only way to see the identity in the outgoing "From" field is to go to Preferences, then click on Accounts, and look there; or send oneself a test email. Both of which are a hassle and should be unnecessary.
In case you're curious as to why I want to see my outgoing "From" header field:
I have several different "personas" online, each of which uses a different email address: My work address (with a work-related domain); my family/personal address (with a different email address than my work address); an online avatar I use in various gaming sites (also with its own address, since I don't want to use my personal name/address in the gaming community); and so on. However, I have all incoming emails to all accounts auto-forwarded to the same central email account. Most of the time I'm just replying to business emails, so my outgoing "Full Name" and "Email Address" (in Preferences>Accounts) are generally set to my business name and address; but on occasion when I want to reply to a non-business email and not have the recipient see my business email address, I go in to Preferences>Accounts and change "Full Name" and "Email Address" (i.e. what is displayed to the user) to something different. And when I'm done with that, I change it back to my business address.
However, sometimes I forget if I've changed it back or not, or forget what I've changed it to. In Eudora, All one needed to one was create a new outgoing email and it would display the "From" field so I could instantly see my outgoing identity. But in Mail, there is no "From" field in outgoing emails, so I'm constantly nervous and wondering which outgoing identity I may have changed to and accidentally forgotten to change back from.
(Yes, yes, I know that if a recipient wanted to be snoopy, they could look at the "full headers" of any incoming email and see the name of my email server, which may different from my displayed email address; but we're not talking about spy-stuff here, I'm just trying to not confuse people and keep business separate from personal.)
So: is there any way for me to see the outgoing "From" field in the emails I send? Or am I condemned to constantly (and mostly unnecessarily) checking "Preferences>Accounts" to see what I have enetered there?

Thanks for replying.
What is the "compose window" to which you are both referring? I could find no reference to such a thing in the Mail menus or Help.
Do you mean the "Composing" pane in the Preferences? I don't see what either one of you is referring to there, but I did notice there something that could function as an awkward workaround: If I click on the "Automatically CC myself" box in Preferences>Composing, then when I start a new email, my email address is displayed in the "CC" field -- and luckily, Mail allows me to then delete my email address out of the CC field, so I don't have to spam myself with duplicate copies of all my emails. This way, I can at least briefly see what email address I'm using, before I delete it from the CC field. Pretty awkward and unnecessarily laborious, however -- still not a perfect solution.
Or, by "composing window," are you referring to an outgoing email? As I said in my original comment, I do see what Ernie called "a small box with lines and an arrow at the bottom left of the header box." This is what I had to say about it:
+"In the "Customize..." button to the left of the Subject field in outgoing messages, one has the option to add as default outgoing message fields "cc," "bcc," "Reply-To," and "Subject," but none of those are what I want. It allows one to also view the address of the mail server, but that also is not what I'm looking for. What I want is to see my outgoing email address. And nowhere is there an option in the Preferences to turn this on. (At least as far as I could tell.)"+
In other words, when Ernie says, "click the box beside From," I can't do that -- because there is no such option. That's the whole problem in the first place. If there was a "From" field beside which I could click a box to make it appear, I would have done so! But there is no "From" field in the "Customize" section of the "small box with lines and an arrow at the bottom left of the header box."
I find it completely mystifying that both of you seem to be able to see a "From" field available to be added to the header of outgoing emails, yet no such option is available to me in Mail. What possibly could be causing this? 10.6.4 is freshly installed on my machine, and Mail seems brand new and uncorrupted. And I'm using Mail 4.3, the latest version.
Are you saying that everyone else can see an option to have a "From" field in their outgoing messages, but I uniquely don't? Very very very strange.

  • How to make a DKIM signature for outgoing messages in Thunderbird (SMTP-server does not support DKIM)?

SMTP-server does not support DKIM signature.
How to make a DKIM signature for outgoing messages in the Thunderbird?

I'm not familiar with this particular use of the terminology.
Thunderbird has S/MIME support built in. You can add PGP support via the Enigmail add-on. Both offer the means to sign and encrypt messages.
I see add-ons to support the checking of DKIM-signed incoming messages, but haven't found any yet for signing.
Is it something that an email client is entitled to do? The Wikipædia entry says
<blockquote>Both modules, signing and verifying, are usually part of a mail transfer agent (MTA).</blockquote>
and that means a server, as opposed to a client (MUA).

  • How to view SOAP header generated from XML Gateway  ?

    Hi All,
I am using XML Gateway integrate EBS and trading partner using web services.
Currently I am having problem with including wsse authorization information in the outbound message of EBS.
I am able to view the payload in the transaction monitor but not able to check the SOAP header of message.
How to view the current SOAP header generated by EBS and/or include the wsse information which are required by recipient trading partners ?
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Regards,
    Ram

No, this XML is the whole XI message and it is not sent by the SOAP (axis) adapter. If you want to see exactly what is sent, try checking it with the TCPGateway tool as advised on the SOAP FAQ note
    [Note 856597 - FAQ: XI 3.0 / PI 7.0 / PI 7.1 SOAP Adapter|https://websmp230.sap-ag.de/sap(bD1wdCZjPTAwMQ==)/bc/bsp/spn/sapnotes/index2.htm?numm=856597]
Under question "Q: How can I trace the whole message?". Otherwise, on SXMB_MONI, try selecting the PAYLOAD item on the left menu and, on the payload on the right, right-click and select "VIEW SOURCE".

  • Add data to table view from input fields in a page

    Hi
I am developing a BSP page which will be called from SRM shop transaction. After user enters the line item data, data will be passed back to shop transaction using OCI interface and the page attributes (URL).
       (1) How can I add data from input fields to table view on a page on a button click? I am able to add first line but I could not retain first line data when I try to add the second line.
I am able to add multiple lines to table view if I use view and controller by adding to the line data to static attribute of the controller. I can’t use the controller and view because I can not set the attribute to Controller automatically.
       (2) Is there a way to pass an attribute (URL) to controller from SPRO? Like we pass an attribute to page automatically (Automatic page attribute).
       (3) How can I call a controller and view and pass the page attribute to the controller on a button click from a page with out controller?
    Thanks

  • How to modify "From" header when certain condition met on "Return-Path" header

We are activating TLS enforcement (STARTTLS) between our customer domain (@tls.customer.com) and their business partner (@tls.partner.com) on internet MTA (Cisco ESA C370 running AsyncOS 8.0.1-023)
Customer is managing their internal mail infrastructure and have user mail domains based on country. So for example user X in Switzerland will have sender address: [email protected]
My understanding is that their are using IQ Suite software to re-write sender address into [email protected] to be able to enforce TLS based on this domain.
So far so good until the business partner at receiving end mentioned that they receive reply-to: [email protected] but from: [email protected]
And this will interfere with the policy at their end that require both sender header fields to be the same.
My customer mentioned that they have modified both "From" and "Sender" fields using IQ Suite but somehow on our IronPort we are seeing both appears on "From":
    From: <[email protected]>, <[email protected]>
And on message tracking I can see DKIM matching on [email protected] rather than on [email protected]
Message 218480027 (51299 bytes) from [email protected] ready.
10 Feb 2015 09:13:27 (GMT +01:00)     Message 218480027 matched per-recipient policy DEFAULT for outbound mail policies.
10 Feb 2015 09:13:27 (GMT +01:00)     Message 218480027 is not signed. No domain key profile matches [email protected]
    10 Feb 2015 09:13:27 (GMT +01:00)     Message 218480027 successfully signed. DKIM ch.customer.com-DKIM matched ch.customer.com.
    10 Feb 2015 09:13:27 (GMT +01:00)     Message 218480027 queued for delivery.
So I suspect that customer internal mail still has [email protected] on "From" header and [email protected] on "Return-path" header.
The question is how can I modify "From" header to match that on "Return-path" before sending it to partner.
    Appreciate the feeback.

    From my tests and knowledge.
We cannot manipulate the From: header to use the variable of the return-path/envelope sender.
However if you know specifically what to re-write then we can specially re-write the From: header to a specific address.
    This is done as;
Content filter or message filter condition set
    Action would be:
    insert-header("From", "[email protected]")
This is all i can think of for this type of request

  • How to group from two fields?

    Afternoon all,
Any ideas how to group a report by using two fields in one formula?
I have two fields in a table
    1: Stock_Code
    2: Misc_Code
I need to group my report by Stock and Misc code combined. How would I be able to do this by using formula?
    Regards
    Jehanzeb

See I tried that already pandabear however for some reason it doesn't bring the results from both fields. It is only bringing results from one field.
    The report criteria is
    {lab_credits.date_created} in date(2007,01,01) to date(2007,12,31) and
    {lab_reasons.reason_code}={?Reason_Code}
the formula I used initially was
    {lab_credits2.stock_code}+{lab_credits2.misc_code}
    but then tried
    {lab_credits2.stock_code}+ " " +{lab_credits2.misc_code}
however both didn't seem to work under the above conditions.
    The output should be
    5-760
    7-240
    7-250
    7-821
    AR
    CARR
    GLAZE
    TINT
    U-113
    U-114
Where 5-760 and U-113 data is coming from stock_code field and AR to TINT is coming from Misc_code field.
The output is ignoring the Misc field values under the given criteria.

    Hi experts,

Then, i want to show this information (the formula) only one line (the first one). But, it's impossible to make a seletion from formula field and it's impossible to make a calculate key figure with "SUMGT" too.

  • How to stop the subject field displaying in list of mail?

Sorry for the spelling I am dyslex..
I like the new layout all virtical in mail 7 BUT in the list of messages it shows the "subject field" how do I stop this field from showing up?
In the clasic view I can change what fields show up (menu "View" - "Message Attributes" and click the fields I want to see) the only problem with the "clasic" view is the horzontial arangments of two of the panels.  I used to use "widemail" plugin to get the arangment of panels in the mail program in Snow Leopard.
Apple have made a big thing of seeing the "subject field" in the mail list pannel but for me I have the preview panel open and so the subject and most of the message is displayed there two so I see this info in two places and it all looks a bit crouded.
Can any one help and in the mean time I will be posting this in the feedback site.

  • How to send bcc to mailbox in outgoing message?

Is there any way in Mail to include a mailbox (on my Mac) as a blind copy when creating and sending a message?
Eudora permits including a mailbox as an fcc (file copy) so that a copy of the message is filed in the mailbox you specify from a list of your mailboxes. In Mail, I could bcc myself on every message and then create elaborate rules to file each copy in a specific mailbox, But unique outgoing messages don't always lend themselves to filing by rule. Typing the mailbox name in the bcc field or dragging the mailbox name into that field would be much, much easier.
    Any ideas? Thanks!

Addressing blind copies to specific mailboxes seems like an obvious feature. Sorry to hear that it's not (yet) possible. Thanks for the news, Shoes.

  • Applescript and the "reply to" field of outgoing message

I have a useless script that works.
    tell application "Mail"
set newMessage to make new outgoing message ¬
    with properties {content:"My name <[email protected]>"}
set visible of newMessage to true
    end tell
I also note from the Mail dictionary that an outgoing message has the following properties: content, sender, subject, content, visible, message signature (signature), id .
I'm puzzled: why aren't there more properties? In particular, I would like to set the Reply To: and Account: fields with something like the following script.
    tell application "Mail"
set newMessage to make new outgoing message ¬
    with properties {sender:"[email protected]", reply to:"[email protected]"}
set visible of newMessage to true
    end tell
I've discovered (with that second script) that the sender property corresponds to the Account: field. But can I get the Reply To: field visible and filled with AppleScript? Or with something else? Automator?
PowerBook G4, Cube   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   Also running 10.2.8 on a Cube, hopefully 10.3.9 soon

Applescript only has access to the objects and properties in the various dictionaries; for mail, as you have discovered, this does not give access to much for an outgoing message. In particular, you cannot access headers such as date or priority or reply-to. If, as in your script, you are making the outgoing message visible before sending it, then you can fill in the reply-to field by hand, but short of trying some gui scripting you can't change it via applescript.
I suggest you use OS X Feedback to complain.

The exact directory name that you're "cd" (change directory) into will depend upon your account name.
Try this (enter what's in quotes)
    "cd ~/Library/Mail"
    Then, type:
    "ls"
This will list the contents of that directory and you'll see a directory named something like "[email protected]@imap.gmail.com".
Then, cd into that directory by typing "cd " and the name of that directory, exactly as you see it.
    Then, you can
    "cd .OfflineCache"
Type "ls" one more time to make sure you're in that directory (I saw files named '1', '2', '3', etc. Don't type the next line if you're in the wrong place.
    And last,
    "rm *"

    Hi y'all
    - Yes I did try to search and find the answer but all I got was guff about quicktime.
I have upgraded from an ooooooold mac running OS X 10.3 and am now up to speed with a Macbook Pro running the latest OS X and iCal Version 2.0.5.
On the old iCal I set up the preferences thus :-
Day starts at 07:00 day ends at 22:00 show 12 hours at a time.
When I opened old iCal it started from 07:00
On the new iCal any part of my day not specified is greyed but it now opens from 00:00.
Not a big deal but only having a 15" screen it means I have to keep scrolling down to 07:00.
I don't need the default view to start from 00:00 as I know what I'm doing - sleeping or clubbing.
If I have set iCal to display 12 hours then why does it display 24? How can I get it to just display the hours between 07:00 - 22:00?
    Appreciated.
