How to view logs of web application deployed in oc4j

Hi,
I have my oc4j server running, I have deployed a web application under instance DCG.
Please let us know, where can I find the logs of my application.
Thanks,
Nagesh.

Usually while deploying a application through "Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Application Server Control" we specify the log and configuration path needed for developed application provided developer has developed the application to store the logs. by default all logs will be there in opmn logs.
you can have a look on following locations
+$ORACLE_HOME/opmn/logs/DCG~OC4J* <OC4J name>+
or
+$ORACLE_HOME/j2ee/<OC4J>/log/<OC4J>/oc4j/log.xml+
Hv a good day!

  • How to create different log files for each of web applications deployed in OC4J

    Hi All,
    I am using OC4J(from Oracle) v1.0.2.2 and Windows2000. Now I want to know
    1. how to create different log files for each of my deployed web applications ?
    2. what are the advantages in running multiple instances of oc4j and in what case we should run
    multiple instances of OC4J ?
    3. how to run OC4J as Windows2000 Service rather than Windows2000 Application ?
    Thanks and Regards,
    Kumar.

    Hi Avi,
    First of all I have given a first reading to log4j and I think there will some more easy way of logging debugging messages than log4j (If you could provide me a detailed explanation of a servlet,jsp,java bean that uses log4j and how to use log4j then it will be very helpful for me). The other easy ways (if I am not using log4j) to my problem i.e creating different log files for each of web applications deployed in oc4j are
    I have created multiple instances of OC4J that are configured to run on different ports and so on each instance I have deployed a single web application . And I started the 2 oc4j instances by transferring thier error/log messages to a file. And the other way is ..
    I have download from jakarta site a package called servhelper . This servhelper is a thread that is started in a startup servlet and stopped in the destroy method of that startup servlet. So this thread will automatically capture all the system.out.println's and will print those to a file. I believe that this thread program is synchronized. So in this method I need not run multiple instances of OC4J instead each deployed web application on single instance of oc4j uses the same thread program (ofcourse a copy of thread program is put in each of the deployed web applications directories) to log messages on to different log files.
    Can you comment on my above 2 approached to logging debugging messages and a compartive explanation to LOG4J and how to use LOG4J using a simple servlet, simple jsp is appreciated ...
    Thanks and Regards,
    Ravi.

  • How to load objects in web application context during oc4j startup?

    Hi
    How I can put some objects in application context during oc4j application startup?
    I'm using oracle as10g j2ee and web cache edition.
    Thanks

    An idea would be to write your own OC4JStartup implementing class and have this thing create the objects you want and bind them to JNDI.

    Hello.

    I've added this, and now get a deployment error:

  • How to find out how many concurrent users using web application?

    Hi all,
    I have a web application deployed using 9iAS. I am trying to find out how to find out how many concurrent users are using this application at any one time. According to Oracle there is no way to see this information using the enterprise manager interface.
    Does anybody out there know how I can find out this information in real time? Failing that, are there any good analysis tools out there that display usage to the minute (all the tools I have found show usage by hour which is not sufficent for my needs).
    Any help would be much appreciated,
    Caroline

    I know I haven't heard of any software to do this, but this also sounds like a really hard problem to try and really analyze well.
    The trick is, you might "infer" how long a user is using an application based on when cookies are set and when they're set to expire. If that's a long time, though, that could count far more "concurrent" users than are actually there. A user could simply close the application at any time and stop using the application; you can't really detect that because the server isn't "told" when the user closes their browser or goes somewhere else.
    A good perl script might be able to read the Apache access log and tell you how many unique IPs asked for a given directory in which various applications are stored in any 5 minute span of time... that could be something like an indicator of "concurrent" users.
    If you don't know Perl, I'd suggest getting the O'Reilly & Associates book on Perl and learning it, because the more I think about this, the more this sounds like a textbook example for applying a Perl script.

  • WL 7.0 and Web Application Deployment - HELP

    I've got a problem with WL 7.0 on Windows 2000.
    I messed up a Web Applications deployment. I was having problem with
    an example of an application I installed. Someone suggested I do the
    following:
    Shut down WL
    cd c:\bea\user_projects\AppDomain
    mv BuyServer BuyServer-ORIG <<< BuyServer is the name of the WL
    domain server this web app is deployed to
    Restart everything
    They said this would undeploy the web app. Yeah, right ....
    Well, the web app still showed up. So being a dork I tried to
    Undeploy it even though the BuyServer directory wasn't there anymore.
    This obviously didn't work.
    So I did a fresh deployement of the web app. This actually worked. A
    new BuyServer directory was created by WL. BUT in the Deployment
    Activities screen for the web app, there is a Activity I can't get rid
    of. The first listed activity is the deployment activitiy with a
    status of COMPLETED.
    The second listed activity says:
    Activity: Activate application buy on
    BuyServer Running
    Status: RUNNING
    Begin/End times are blank
    And there is a CANCEL button on the far right. I'm pretty sure this
    is the attempted undeploy I mentioned above. Pressing this button
    doesn't do anything. I can repeated undeploy and redeploy this web
    app but that second activity keeps coming back.
    Where does WL keep these Deployment activities stored ? Its putting
    them somewhere in storage. Is there anyway I can delete this failed
    activity ?
    Any thoughts appreciated.

    I am sure you "sovled" the problem by now but...

    They said this would undeploy the web app. Yeah, right ....Sorry someoned fed you the wrong info. Buyer beware. ;)
    So when you "deploy" an applicaiton, it goes into config.xml
    $DOMAIN_NAME/config.xml
    It looks something like:
    <Application Name="mywebapp"
    Path="E:\weblogic\dev\sandbox\griffith\apps\output" TwoPhase="true">
    <WebAppComponent Name="mywebapp" Targets="myserver" URI="mywebapp.war"/>
    </Application>
    You should be able to "undeploy" this thing in 3 ways.
    1) by starting the server and "deleteing" it with the little trash can icon in
    the Application/module list.
    2) don't start your server, and removed the <Application tag
    3) start server and run weblogic.Deployer
    java weblogic.Deployer -name mywebapp -remove

    A

    And there is a CANCEL button on the far right. I'm pretty sure this
    is the attempted undeploy I mentioned above. Pressing this button
    doesn't do anything. I can repeated undeploy and redeploy this web
    app but that second activity keeps coming back.Sorry sounds like you have hit a bug. :(
    Deploy from the command line.
    java weblogic.Deployer <url/user/pass> -name mywebapp -source PATH_TO_EXPLODED_DIR_OR_EAR_OR_WAR_FILE
    -activate
    If it fails to return, then post the server's log file.

    Where does WL keep these Deployment activities stored ? Its putting
    them somewhere in storage. They are only in memory for duration of server run, if you restart they go away.
    Is there anyway I can delete this failed
    activity ?
    Any thoughts appreciated.Cheers

  • Error while web application deployment in NetBeans5.5

    Error while web application deployment in NetBeans5.5. I am always getting Tomcat deployment error. using Netbeans 5.5.1 with bundeld tomcat. But in some machines its working fine.
    regards
    jossy v jose

    What is the error message you see?
    Are there any stacktraces or other relevant messages in the ide log file? (The ide log file is [userdir]/var/log/messages.log. On userdir: http://blogs.sun.com/karthikr/entry/jse_directories)
    You can also check the server log file to see if there are more detailed messages.
    You can also try setting ant's verbose level to debug or verbose (Tools | Options | Miscellaneous | Ant | Verbosity Level) and check the output.

  • Web Application Deployment Problem...

    I'm having an issue where with an exploded directory web application deployment
    on a UNIX server. It doesn't seem that weblogic is finding the JSP. I'm getting
    Error 404.
    - porting from wls 5.1 to wls 6.1
    - got it ported on Windows 2000
    - iPlanet as the web server
    - wls 6.1 as the application server
    - all JSPs under
    /data/current/weblogic_files/applications/prodssl
    - for the WebApplication, I have the following settings:
    - Name = webap_prodssl
    - URI = prodssl
    - Path = /data/current/weblogic_files/applications
    - in the prod_access.log, I do see that weblogic gets the request
    Any ideas? I have not made any security changes. Basically, I installed wls
    6.1, created the servers, created the Web Apps and targeted the Web Apps.
    Thanks for any help. Later...

    Hi,
    Did you actually try to look at the Oracle Hyperion Enterprise Performance Management System Installation and Configuration Guide for instructions as suggested ?
    To redeploy a component, run the configurator that can be found in the start menu under Foundation Services. Then select "modify an existing instance". Then for Calculation manager, check the box "Deploy to application server".
    Thanks,

  • Best practices on how to implement logging in custom application

    In the Enterprise Manager it is possible to display/browse the content of different log files generated by the application server modules.
    I have some custom web applications which currently use the log4j framework to write to log files. Is it possible to make these log files accesible for the Enterprise Manager ?
    Or what is the best practice on how to implement logging in custom applications which can be browsed in the Enterprise Manager (I do not want to use system.out)

    I thought that this could be done. An ex- colleague did this - but he didn't tell me how to solve this.
    But as it just took 10 minutes to solve this I believe it's fairly easy.

  • How to add log to an application

    Hi,
    Can anyone give me the procedure for how to add logs to my application
    Regards
    Padma

    Padma. My understanding is that logging is the same way in Web Dynpro as in a normal J2EE app.
    Maybe this section in sap.help will be of use to you.
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/fe/4f5542253fb330e10000000a155106/frameset.htm
    I haven't personally used SAP's logging because we ported our apps from WebSphere and we were already using log4j. We evaluated SAP's logging and didn't find that the work involved to switch or bridge log4j to SAP's logging was worth it.
    Good luck

  • OC4J: log level for application deployment?

    Hi,
    i have a application that can be deploy to co4j in window xp but not in AIX, and
    the error message print is not so helpful.
    i want to get more detail information about the error. (print more detail debug message)
    Is there something like -Dxxx=debug to set the log level for application deployment?
    thank you.

    Most likely application is trying to display a prompt, run your app in full visibility mode and see if it goes through.
    Sometimes, when app is receiving incorrect license key it will also hang like that. The only way it's going to fail is once you run out of time, which by default is 120 minutes I think.
    Other times, app needs mapped drive etc, there might be many more reasons.
    SCCM logs will show you what is received from app. If nothing is received, then logs are useless and you need to use application level logging or take a look at windows logs (system and application) - they might be useful too.
    As a last resort, you can use psexec and run installer as system account to mimic what SCCM is using and see if app installs or also takes its sweet time.

  • Are there applications deployed on OC4J ?

    Are there applications deployed on OC4J and running live with 100+ users on Production. I know WebLogic and WebSphere does..but not sure of OC4J.

    Yes there are!

  • How to store reports on cr server 2008 and view them from web application

    Hi, I want to store my rpt files on the crystal reports server, under "Folders", and then from my web application use  "CrystalReportViewer" control to show these reports.
    Now I setup a crystal reports server 2008 on my server, and install crystal reports 2008 on my client develp machine. I have searched some sample codes from Internet, but many Business Objects dlls they used I could not find from my computer, for example, I can not find infostore dll and  Business Objects.sdk. It seems I have to install some sdk to use these objects.
    Could you tell if which sdk I have to setup to achieve my goal, or if can give me a sample would be highly appriecatied.

    Q. From your information, it likes this function above can not be done now?
    A. At the moment, the only way you can view reports stored on CR Server 2008 are with the Java SDK or OpenDocument.
    OpenDocument may be a nice option for you, as there would not be much programming involved. Please see this documentation for information how to use this. Please note that in CR Server 2008, you will be using Java OpenDocument.
    http://help.sap.com/businessobject/product_guides/boexir31/en/xi3-1_url_reporting_opendocument_en.pdf
    Q. can use CR server XI instead, this version has been a while, so certainly has .net sdk available for realize this function, does'nt it?
    A. CR Server XI has the .NET SDK. You can find .NET samples here:
    https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/boc/businessobjects-sdklibrary
    Q.  I download CRRedist2008_x86.msi and install it on my develope machine, from the instruction said it will install lots of .net dll on my computer, but I just can not find them, do you know where they are?
    A. It should install the necessary files to C:Program FilesBusiness Objects
    You can find more information about the Crystal Reports .NET distributables in the CR .NET help file, in the deployment chapter:
    https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/boc/crystalreports-sdk

  • Configure Log File for each web application deployed in weblogic server usi

    Hi All,
    How do I configure Log4J to log separately for each web application? i.e. Assuming, I have a web application "AWeb" and a web application "BWeb". I need a log file to be created for AWeb Separately and BWeb Separately. i.e. All the log information for "AWeb" web application will be stored in AWeb.log and all the "BWeb" web application will be stored in BWeb.log
    Do you have any sample code and configuration details for the above-mentioned requirement?
    Thanks in Advance,
    C R Baradwaj

    You do not need to do anything strange, just use log4j the usual way with the exception that you do not need to init log4j (this is not necesary when using a log4j.xml.)
    A minimal sample of a log4j.xml is
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>
    <!DOCTYPE log4j:configuration SYSTEM "log4j.dtd">
    <log4j:configuration xmlns:log4j="http://jakarta.apache.org/log4j/">
    <appender name="ConsoleAppender" class="org.apache.log4j.ConsoleAppender">
    <layout class="org.apache.log4j.SimpleLayout"/>
    </appender>
    <root>
    <priority value ="debug" />
    <appender-ref ref="ConsoleAppender"/>
    </root>
    </log4j:configuration>
    You just have to be sure that you have different log4j.xml in your classpath for different web applications.
    Regards,
    LG
