How to view MAC addresses on the network?

I can log into other non-apple routers via browser and see a list of MAC addresses of equipment connected to the network, but I don't see how to view them if using my Airport Extreme and going in through Airport Utility.
Any thoughts?

If It's the same Mac that can see the PC, it's already set up correctly. Something must be wrong somewhere.

How to backup Mac Lion over the network

I have a client who asked me to set up a Lion email server for 20 users. It is running open directory for the user accounts and has a wiki set up on it as well. I have been researching backup solutions for it. The server runs in a remote data center environment and it is the only mac on the network. There are other Linux and windows machines on the same network as well. I would like a backup solution for the email and open directory database that doesn't require stopping the email service (if possible), and I would like to back up over the network (if possible).
What would be the best way to back up this server considering it needs to be in service 24/7? I am open to both free and commercial solutions. Any thoughts or comments would be very much appreciated.

As the server is in a (remote) data center the first more normal approach for backing up over the network would require you to have access to a second computer in the same data center this would require additional hosting costs.
The next (network) approach would involve backing up from the server in the data center over the Internet to perhaps a machine at your own office, or another site, or a third option to use a commercial Internet based backup service.

If your backing up to your own Mac over the Internet you will need to setup a VPN link. You could in theory as one possible example, have the Mac mini in the data center also act as a VPN server so you can fully access it, then mount the volumes over AFP, then use any standard backup tool to copy that to a local volume. Retrospect would be able to do this as one example. Another way is rather than using AFP, use FTP to download everything. However unless you protect FTP behind a VPN it is these days considered very insecure.
Another approach is to use Rsync which is designed original for Unix/Linux for this exact purpose but like all Linux originated software is far from friendly. See http://www.rsync.net/resources/howto/mac_rsync.html

What is your router model? How are you trying to access the router?
Default credential when typing 192.168.1.1 on your browsers address bar is to leave username blank and use admin as password. If that does not work, then you'd have to reset and reconfigure your router.

Hi Bruce,
Out from what I can find on this network card is it not possible to get the mac address without a OS. I would recommend you to get/burn a Linux/Ubuntu live CD/DVD and run a Ifconfig in there.

I have just bought a Humax PVR and Humax W-Lan dongle to connect to my Airport Extreme. I have put the mac address into the AE. The installation screen is picking up my network name no problem but it won't connect to the internet. Can anyone help please?

have you made sure that the network setting in the system preferences is set up to use dhcp? if not i would try changing it so that it shows that it is getting its address by dhcp

I am trying to install 2T time capsule as my main router. Telus my internet supplier allows me to in install the MAC address for the static ip that I am going to use. But where is the MAC address on the cube or how do I get it?

On the bottom label it should list the MAC address.
If you happen to still run the original.. ie decent airport utility it has all that info right in front of you.

How do I assign a fixed IP address on the network?

I have a Brother HL-2070N Laser Network printer connected to my Airport Network via an ethernet connection to a switch which is connected to the Airport Extreme Base Station. The Airport is set up as a DHCP server.
I am having a problem with the printer not waking from sleep when I issue a print command. According to Brother tech support, they suggest I change the printer set-up to an IP printer but to do that I will need a static IP address on the network. They have provided the instructions on how to assign the address to the printer but how do I set up the Airport to assign the same IP address to the printer if it has to be restarted, etc?

You need to assign the printer an IP address ending in 201 or higher. These are addresses outside of the range used by the DHCP server in the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS).

How to map MAC address to Logical name

Hi all:
Is there any command to get the logical NIC name according to MAC address?
The 'ifconfig -a' command only list the network information for these plumbed network card.
But how to get the logical name for these unplumbed network cards if I know the MAC address?

I have tried to use "prtconf -v > output_file" and search under /dev and /devices method. It couldn't find the unplumbing network name.
Is there any other suggestion?
And also I think I should describle more clear about my question.
I want to configure IPMP group automatically by scripts after OS (spac system)installed. For the script, only the MAC addresses(which network card is not unplumbed) are passed as parameter for IPMP group setting. You know for IPMP setting. it needs to written setting in /etc/hostname.<interfacename>.
So I need to map the MAC address(which is not unplumbed) to logical name(interface name).

I only configure one network card on this OS. But after the OS installed, the "ifconfig -a" doesn't work to find all these network interface. It is only show the configured network interface.
I don't know why the behaviors of "ifconfig -a" command are different between before OS installed and after OS installed.

Hello Kiran,
The inline-vlan-pair itself is tied to a particular interface. So you're really asking for the MAC address of the interface associated with the inline-vlan-pair.
The MAC address of sensing ports will be added to a "show interfaces" via CSCse84414. You can currently view the MAC address of sensing interfaces by doing an "ifconfig -a" from the service account.

ACS V4.1 How to separate MAC addresses in an Authentication rule....?

I'm configuring Agentless Authentication based om MAC addresses sendt from the access switch using MAB (MAC Authent. Bypass). I got it up and running, but with just one MAC address configured in the Authentication rule. When I try to configure more than one address in the rule, I get an error saying this is not a MAC address. How do you separate the MAC entries in the same Authentication rule. The doc says you can configure 10.000 addresses in one rule.

The ACS can authenticate MAC addresses sent from an AP/Switch. A properly configured AP/Switch will attempt to authenticate a MAC address using Secure-PAP authentication with the ACS. The MAC addresses are entered into the ACS as users, with the username and password being the MAC address.
1. From the ACS main menu, click on the USER SETUP button.
2. In the USER text box, type the MAC address to add to the user database. Use no dashes, periods,
or any other delimiter.
At the USER SETUP screen, enter the MAC address in the SECURE-PAP PASSWORD text box.
3.Click the SUBMIT button.
Adding the AP/Switch to the ACS server
1. From the ACS main menu click on the NETWORK CONFIGURATION button.
2. Click on the ADD ENTRY button.
3. Configure the DNS name of the AP, the IP address of the AP, the RADIUS shared secret and the
Authentication method.
4. Make sure to select RADIUS (Cisco Aironet) in the AUTHENTICATE USING drop down menu.
5. To complete, click the SUBMIT+RESTART button.

If you have not updated your OS you can use the following command.
sudo ifconfig enX ether xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx
You will need to replace the X with your network number and the xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx with the mac you want to have.
Then run
sudo ifconfig enX down
sudo ifconfig enX up
This change will last till your next reboot.

Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
5. Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
    •    Launch Settings app

    •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
    •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button
