How to view movies in full screen?

i have a video i want to see in full screen that i made in imovie.. unfortunately when i view it in full screen.. the movie doesnt fit the screen... there are black borders around the clip. so how do i view the video in full screen?

hey there Samirziz,
are you wanting full screen on your Mac or your TV? is your TV 16:9 or 4:3? is your movie 16:9 or 4:3?
4:3= almost square, old technology analog
16:9= widescreen, newer technology ready for digital
pillarbox = bars on side
letterbox = bars on top & bottom
David is right on in what he says, uultimately it will depend on you making the movie & it's DVD(if you burn it to DVD) fit your TV.
4:3 movie > 4:3 DVD = full screen on a 4:3 TV
4:3 movie > 4 :3 DVD =pillar box on a 16:9 TV(if you can't tweak something on your TV-like Zoom, still may cut off a bit on top & bottom)
16:9 movie > 16 :9 DVD = full screen on a 16:9 TV
16:9 movie > 16:9 DVD = letter box on a 4:3 TV (afaik, there's no way to tweak the TV)
iMovie & iDVD work together well & iDVD kinda "auto detects" if your movie is 4:3 or 16:9, then opens in the appropriate format.
good luck, hope this helps

  • Screen goes to sleep even when viewing movies in full screen mode

Hi, I have adjusted my settings so my screen goes to sleep after 5 minutes which is ok. But it also does this when viewing movies in full screen mode.... Is this a setting somewhere? Thanx!

    Welcome to the Discussions!
"When the computer is inactive" or "idle" means when YOU, the user, are doing nothing, neither using the keyboard nor the mouse. So you have to increase that 5 mins in Energy Saver.

  • 1. How to view my work full screen? 2. How to make "F" keys behave proper?

    Hello All,
Two softball questions for FCP batting practice:
    1. Somewhere along the way, I came across an explanation on how to make my canvas full screen. I found a post mentioning View, External Video, and something about cinema (not in front of it right now). I don't have an external monitor, so how can I accomlish this on my laptop?
    2. Speaking of laptops, many of the "F" keys don't work as described in the manual. For example, F12 brings up a dashboard with weather in Cupertino, CA. Not exaclty conducive to my workflow. Is there a place to tell the MacBook Pro that when operating this application, default to the "F" commands within the software?
    Thanks All.

    Hey Steve,
Point well taken. In the past week, I purchased a camera, Final Cut, MacPro, Mic, Lights, Tripod, etc. I have purchased two books that were recommended on this site (both excellent), and a CD tutorial. I have been out shooting every day, doing tutorials and editing (to the best of my ability) every night. All of that being said, it's a tremendous amount of information, and some of the finer points get lost. I am pleased to say that I have completed my first piece on hunger experienced by seniors in our community. Very gratifying.
So, I fully appreciate the apparent laziness inferred from my post, but trust me, I'm fully engaged, just overwhelmed.
Shane, thanks for "pinch hitting". Both solutions worked.

  • Unable to view movies in full screen

I am unable to watch movies in full screen mode. When I try and select it, I am simply taken back to the itunes window, but the movie audio continues. I can watch the movie at any other size. What's going on?

There are several possible causes for the Black Screen issue
    1. Permissions in the Library: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to check and repair permissions.
    2. Minor Database corruption: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
    3. A Damaged Photo: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show File (or 'Show Original File' if that's available). (On iPhoto 11 this option is under the File -> Reveal in Finder.) Will the file open in Preview? If not then the file is damaged. Time to restore from your back up.
    4. A corrupted iPhoto Cache: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto folder from HD/Users/Your Name/Library/ Caches...
    5. A corrupted preference file: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    If none of these help:
    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

  • Viewing videos in full screen or at least 2x

I watch a lot of streaming video on Safari (I don't have a TV). CNN, Jon Stewart, etc. On a Windows PC, I am able to right click an select a zooming choice (full screen. Do I need to download IE or Netscape for MAC?
Another question, somewhat related. Is anyone else watching Frontline PBS online and not able to use the Real Player link (the audio is fine, but the video plays more like a slide show)?
    Thanks for reading this.

I just found an interesting apple support document that says that in mobile me, videos published by imovie and final cut etc can be viewed full screen , but ones published by aperture 3 cannot. So this implies that aperture has a problem with full screen video.... I think.
So for now, the way I found , which is to make the move a slide show, and then view the slide show seems to be the only way to view movies in full screen in Aperture 3... But it is very odd to have to do that!....

  • How can I create a full-screen view of Keynote slide in Snow Leopard?

How can I create a full-screen view of my Keynote slides in Snow Leopard?
I'm going to be importing into ScreenFlow to create a video.
    Thank you!!

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
Do you want static screen captures or motion video of slides as titles, bullet points, and the like are presented?
Run the Keynote slide presentation in full-screen mode, then...
    Static full-screen captures - use Command+Shift+3.
Static partial-screen captures - use Command+Shift+4 and use cursor to select the area of the screen to capture.
If you want motion video as builds occur, why not use Keynote's built-in Share, Export function?
    (I'm on iLife '09.)
Also understand that the default slide format for Keynote is 1024x768, not full-screen MacBook 1280x800 screen size, so you'll have wide black borders unless you change the default size or crop the finished screen captures.

iMovie crashes when i try to view the project full screen and export it. How do i fix this?

Close out of the camera app, double tap the home button and completely close out of the app.
Then do a reset, no data loss.  Hold down the home/sleep button together until you see the apple logo and then release, then wait for the phone to boot back up.
Then check your camera roll again.

  • Possible to view quicktime in full screen on external monitor?

    Hey All!
Im wondering if there is any way to view quicktime movies in full screen (or use front row for that matter) on an external desktop set up us as an extended desktop (as opposed to mirror). This seems like quite a dumb thing to not be able to do.

This is a problem for most software on the mac, especially games. My experience has been most software uses the primary - in this case the macbook lcd - as its display monitor. There are a few ways to fudge it to force it on another screen, but quite frankly I find that the only way to use a macbook pro and external monitor is with the lid closed.
This is generally the best solution as the menu bar is always stuck on the primary anyway.
To use the macbook closed simply wake the computer from sleep with an external keyboard or mouse the laptop and the primary will now be the external monitor.
The only real downside is how do I now use the isight????

  • Can´t view photos in full screen after loading photos to dropbox? what to do?, can´t view photos in full screen after loading photos to dropbox? what to do?

after loading photos to dropbox i can´t view them in full screen in iphoto ... i can only view them small ... when i click on them this sign "!" appears... do you know how to fix this????

If you're loading photos to drop box why do you expect to see them in iPhoto?
The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
Remember: we cannot see your machine. There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 8 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS.  So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Basic things like :
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For instance: 'iPhoto won't export' is best explained by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted?
    - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.
