How to view Playlist assignments in main Music Library

When viewing my entire Music Library in iTunes (Mac OS), I would like to see what playlist(s) each song has been added to. There are dozens of View Options (name, album, genre, etc.) but I can not find a way to view playlist assignments in the Music Library window. I have an extensive music collection and many songs have not yet been placed in a playlist. I am looking for an easy way to determine which one's aren't in a playlist yet. Also, this would simplify determining if a song is in an inappropriate playlist and reassigning it. Is there an automated iTunes feature for this? I'm trying to avoid having to manually enter playlist information for each song in my Music Library.

You might try Doug's Scripts. Sorry, not at my home computer right now so I don't know the exact web address but if you seach for "Doug's Scripts" it should be near the top.
Just out of curiosity, why do you need to put every song in a playlist? Are you familiar with the browser function in iTunes which will allow you to view your music by genre, artist and album? Not for me to judge how you organize your music but perhaps if I knew a little bit more about what you're trying to accomplish, I might have some other suggestions.
Best of luck.

  • Having tremendous difficulty with the new version of iTunes.  Moving from a playlist to the main music library has iTunes using 100% of the cpu and listed as not responding.  Not sure this new version was ready for release!

OK, issue seems to be when I've selected "Albums" as the view.  Moving to "Songs" is OK.  This problem just appeared with the new release.  Anyone else having difficulty?

well nobody bothered to give me a hint on what to do, maybe because the problems with the new version of iTunes are really a lot, there is an enormous amount of people out there that have all sort of different problems including mine  so I have decided to return to the previous version which works fine and wait untill the apple people come up with a decent product ....

If you are on Version 11.0.1 rather than 11 Apple put it back in
    View > Show Duplicates
Option + View > Show Exact Duplicates
so if you are on 11 upgrade to 11.0.1 and you will have it

In iOS 7 how did I search songs in my music library?

How stupid is this design?!  Unless you happen to be positioned the top of the displayed list (song, artist, album, etc.) there's no way you'd find the search (aka, spotlight) option.
Why not put the option in a non-scrollable area of the screen, so it's always visible?
As iOS 'evolves', it's interface seems to be becoming less intuitive. Sad.

  • How can I find tracks in itunes Music Library that I have NOT copied to my

    HI,
I have more tracks in my iTunes music library than will fit on my iPod. for each track in my iTunes music libary I'd like to see whether or not that track is also on my iPod. I know I can do this track by track by looking up each track in the iPod directory but that could take months. What I want is to be able to filter or sort my iTunes music library by this attribute so I can visually scan down the list and see what I'd like to move over to the iPod (after making space on the iPod by deleting songs I'm tired of)
How can I do this and what version of iTunes is needed.
    thanks -- Dan

The .xml file is basically just a playlist of your entire Library. You can create one by going to your main Library List view and click File > Export.. - then just save a new .xml file to the desktop (or wherever).

  • How do I link to a different music library?

When I dock my iPod, iTunes states that my iPod is linked to another music library? Do I wish to link to this one? I have no idea how my old library got deleted or misplaced, but I know the music still exists in the various folders within "My Music". I have tried to find where the path to the Music Library exists to change it, but cannot find it. I would really hate to have to re-import all of my songs into the library again and have to make additional playlists. Help anyone?

  • My imported music only appears in playlist and not my music library

    Hello,
I have recently reinstalled itunes on my PC. I am trying to import my music into itunes but it is appearing as a playlist and not in the music folder (i.e. I have 100's of playlists listed on the left playlist pane but nothing is appearing in the music library folder. Does anyone know how to fix this. The steps that I am performing so far are:
    - File
    - Add Folder to Library
....this is where the trouble starts
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I'm having the same infuriating problem! I added an MP3 file to my iTunes Music Library - and it doesn't appear! I also purchased an MP3 album from Amazon, added it to the library - and it DOES NOT appear!
I can right click the file (Windows Vista 64) and select "Open file with..." and it will play on iTunes. I can even add the file into a Playlist, but it still will not appear in the general Music Library!!!
I've searched everywhere for a solution and no help. Yes, I do have it selected to Copy File to Library.

  • Backing up Playlist (Or the Entire Music Library) on a Second Hard Drive

I know there are many solutions for this subject online, but neither suits my needs. I have already read many tutorials on how to backup your entire music library using your ipod as a hard drive, but I have a different matter. I have all my music stored on my second hard drive (witch has a capacity 80 Gigabytes), the size of the music folder is about 49 Gigabytes; my ipod has a capacity of 30 Gigabytes, and my first drive (where Windows runs has a capacity of 20 Gigabytes.) On my current library I have all my playlists the way I like them. My problem is that I constantly need to re-install Windows for testing matters, so I would like to keep all my playlists, my ratings, and my play counts when I reinstall windows. I can not use my ipod as a hard drive, because all my music won’t fit. I have also read that it is necessary to have the option (Keep my Itunes music folder organized), but I am not able to do that also, because of the lack of space on my 1st hard drive. What would be my best option to backup my library?
    Thanks in advance,
    Dirk Breeuwer

    Dirk Breeuwer,
It sounds like you may have your songs stored on the external hard drive, and linked to the library on the internal hard drive. Is that correct?
You can move your iTunes Library folder to the external drive, and then tell iTunes to keep the library organized. This article discusses creating a different library, and how to switch between them. (This is a feature that was added as part of iTunes 7)
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304447
The initial configuration of that option may take a while, but once setup would be the easiest way to accomplish keeping the library intact through reinstall of Windows with the songs stored on a second hard drive.
Personally I would try this if you have sufficient space on the second hard drive free for all the music:
    1. Copy the iTunes folder from My Documents to the external hard drive
    2. Hold down shift when launching iTunes as directed in the article above
    3. Select that iTunes folder on the external hard drive.
    4. If you music doesn't have !'s next to it when you try to play songs you know are on the external hard drive, then go to Advanced->Consolidate library.
    5. Consolidating library will copy all the songs into the iTunes folder on the external hard drive, as long as the links were not broke by copying the library to the external hard drive.
    Hope this helps,
    Nathan C.

  • Playlists empty, no iTunes Music Library file

Is it possible to recover songs from a playlist?
I was reading over some posts on the subject, which mention moving the iTunes Music Library file. I see the iTunes Library file, but not the iTunes Music library file.
    Thanks for any help!

I don't know exactly what you mean by recover songs from a playlist. What are you trying to do?
The two library file terms are the same, just differ with iTunes versions.

  • Playlists gone after moving music library

I moved the 'My Music' folder from one harddisk to another, and now all the playlists in Itunes are empty? Anyone know who to restore/repopulate the playlists? Note, the playlists are still intact on my ipod. If I resync my ipod will it put my playlists back, or erase them on my ipod?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions, SJUBRIT!
I moved the 'My Music' folder from one harddisk to another,
It sounds like that's the cause of your problem right there.
As you can see by looking at this article in the Apple Knowledge Base, if you want to move the location of your iTunes Music Library, you should only move the
    i iTunes Music
    folder,
    b not
    the
    i iTunes
    folder, let alone the
    i My Music
    folder.
As the article states, it's important for the
    i iTunes
folder with the iTunes Library files to stay on the C drive.
    I'd suggest you move the
    i My Music
folder back to its original location and then follow the steps described in the Knowledge Base Article.
    Good Luck!
    Any further questions, post back.
