How to view rating stars on pictures in browser or split view

On an Imac aperture v3.2 I cannot see the rating stars on the pictures in browser or split view. I can only see them if i open the metadata for each individual picture. Does anyone know how to turn this feature on? My husband has a Macbook pro using the same software and he can see them.

The ratings are part of the Metadata Overlays (link goes to User Manual page with full instructions). There are seven different Metadata Overlays. It is helpful to customize each of them. The customization is done via "View→Metadata Display→Customize".
The Browser Metadata Overlay is toggle on/off with "u". "{Shift}+u" will toggle the Browser Metadata Overlay between "Basic View" and "Expanded View".
What is most likely is simply that either your Browser Metadata display has been toggled off. Try each of the toggles above, and see if that doesn't bring back the ratings. If it doesn't, you'll have to add them back to the Metadata View using the customize command above.

Please follow the below steps to add ratings.
If the list or library page is not already open, click the name of the library on the Quick Launch. Or, click Site Actions, click View All Site Content, and then under the appropriate
section, click the name of the list or library.
In the ribbon, do one of the following:
For a list, under List Tools, click List, and then click List Settings in
the Settings group.
For a library, under Library Tools, click Library, and then click Library Settings in
the Settings group.
Under General, click Rating settings.
Under Allow items in this list to be rated, click Yes.

Aperture shows pictures in browser, not in viewer

My pictures appear no longer in viewer, only in browser (>20000 pictures, Aperture 3.2.3). (Aperture starts just with the menubar, no window. After trying to import, window appears, but only browser shows the pictures, not viewer)
I tried already "repair permissions", "repair database", and "delete the user preferences.

have you tested, if this is a system wide problem or only occurs when working from your current user account? Try to open Aperture from a different user account, e.g. the guest account.
If Aperture runs without problems from a different account, then there probably is something wrong in your account, try how Aperture works with a new test Aperture Library.
if Aperture does not work from a different account, you probably have a system wide problem, either with the Aperture installation, your OS, or your hardware. Then I'd try to reinstall Aperture.

No 'Viewer' view in fullscreen only Browser and Split

I'm not sure if I am doing something stupid here. I installed the 3.1 update and launched Aperture and I have lost the full screen 'Viewer' view. Pressing V toggles between Browser and Split view. All three views are selectable in the non full screen view.
I'm following the Aperture 3 Pro training series book, so it's possible that I have changed something but I'm pretty sure it was fine before the 3.1 update.
Any ideas?

Split View: Should be easy but...

Ok. So I have a Split View. It looks a bit like this:
Split View
- Tab View
- Scroll View (Text View)
A vertical Split view displaying two things: the Tab View on the left, the Text View on the Right.
I want to change this.
Is there any way of switching the sides? Making the Tab View go to the right and the Text View to the left? and once my app is compiled, is there any property/method/code that would allow the user to change this at runtime?

To switch the sides in Interface Builder, the easiest thing to do is unembed the views from the split view, move the views, and embed them in a split view.
1. Select the two views in Interface Builder.
2. Choose Layout > Unembed Objects.
3. Move the views.
4. Select the two views a second time.
5. Choose Layout > Embed Objects In > Split View.

Question: How to display rating in SURVEY VIEW

I've been using Lightroom for years. I love to use the SURVEY mode. But today, I couldn't see the rating stars under each photo in Survey mode; I only see the flag status. Now, it's probably something I did, like hitting a shortkey or something... but for the life of me, I can't figure out how to bring back that visual information. After searching online + fiddling around with the settings, I finally thought I'd come here and ask if anyone knows...

PS. Lightroom 4.3RC (why 4.3 RC, because I'm one of those plagged with a super slow Lightroom in develop mode, especially with my D800 files! I'm crossing my fingers with each RC update that the software will be faster... )

your screenshot pointed me in the right direction. It just happens that I had changed the background color of the Survey View, and the stars rating were now blending with the background, creating the illusion of them not being there.

HT3805 In my split view, the viewed picture is all the way to the right- only a sliver is visible. How do I get it to be centered and viewed in total?

How can I get the picture in my split view to move back to the center where I can see it all?

there should be. Are you perhaps looking in the system library?
The User Library should appear in the Finder's "Go" drop down menu, like this:
If your system is Lion or Mt. Lion, you will have to hold down the option-key ⌥ to make it appear in the menu.
Then look in the folder Preferences for "com.aperture.plist" and remove it.
Don't forget to quit Aperture before you do this.

Drag the Library from the Pictures folder to the Users/Shared folder. I would point out that folks doing this on 10.6 and later frequently meet permissions issues. You might do better moving it to an appropriately formatted External Disk.

The iphone//ipad/ipod is not a backup/storage device. The sync is one way - computer to iphone. The exception is itunes purchases.
There is no free, or Apple supported, way to extract any other music.
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer. Use your backup copy of your computer to put everything back.
Iphone sync with one computer at a time. Syncing to another will erase the current content from the iphone and replace with the content of the new computer.

is there a way of applying both the five-star rating, AND the green color label at the same time, with one keyboard shortcut, or otherwise?
If you need to do this in exactly one action, then I don't think there is a way to do this. Of course, if you want to accomplish this in two actions, you can select all the 5 star images, and then apply the Green color label to them all in one step, but that isn't what you asked for.
Is there any way to make my five-star rated photos more visually prominent in the grid view?

ANother thought is to create a smart collection of your 5 star images, and then you can use the smart collection to view the 5-star images (none of the other images will appear)

Thanks, Eric. I'm not sure what I should be checking using your suggestion--as I said, I'm an utter novice with the iMac. However, I saw a reference to problems with the Library entries, so I checked mine and the iWork files were missing, something confirmed when I checked the crash log. In desperation, I did another software update, and that seems to have fixed the problem completely. Now wondering if I dare upgrade to Lion!

There are several possible causes for the Black Screen issue
1. Permissions in the Library: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to check and repair permissions.
2. Minor Database corruption: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
3. A Damaged Photo: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show File (or 'Show Original File' if that's available). Will the file open in Preview? If not then the file is damaged. Time to restore from your back up.
4. A corrupted iPhoto Cache: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto folder from HD/Users/Your Name/Library/ Caches...
5. A corrupted preference file: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
If none of these help:
As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

Hmm.
I don't know what I did wrong before, but now when I tap 'back' button it gets back to chat.
Seems like I have found solution, but I am pretty sure that before it it went back to previously opened application, not chat. Will keep testing
