How to view song's metadata in xmms?

Hello!
I am using the version of xmms currently available in arch (1.2.10). Everything works well, but I am intrigued about something: how can I see the file's metadata/tags?
If I use mpg321 I get
$ mpeg321 polar.mp3
High Performance MPEG 1.0/2.0/2.5 Audio Player for Layer 1, 2, and 3.
Version 0.59q (2002/03/23). Written and copyrights by Joe Drew.
Uses code from various people. See 'README' for more!

Title  : Polar Bear                      Artist: Ride
Album  : Nowhere                         Year  : 1990
Comment:  00000ECB 000003EC 00004C82 00  Genre : Noise
But if I play the same song in xmms I only see the artist and the song title going by in the small window; right-clicking the window and selecting "View File Info" show all fields blank except for the title one, which show the file name (without the extension).
How can I view metadata in xmms? Is this even possible or should I be using a different programa for that?
Thanks for any info!
Cheers
Mack

It must be a problem with the file, probably it only has the ID3v2 tags or something like that, use a program like EasyTAG and simple open the file and save it again, it should write the info on a way that XMMS actually understands.

  • How to view songs that are not in any playlist

    I am using iTunes 6.04.
I want to be able to view songs in my Library that are not associated with ANY playlist. How can this be done? Please don't suggest to me upgrading to iTunes 7.02. (with every iTunes update, Apple makes is more difficult to do the things Apple doesn't want you to be able to do).
    Thanks
    Ben

Please be patient. If you don't get a reply within a few hours, obviously nobody passed by who knew the answer to your question.
After all we're just fellow users trying to help as these are user-to-user forums.
    I have an answer.
    Run one of these scripts:
Not In Any Playlist will create a text listing of songs that are not in any playlist.
Not In Any Playlist To Playlist will put songs that are not in any playlist into a new playlist.
    Hope this helps.

  • How to view the CIP4 metadata on the exported PDF?

    Hi All,
I've a sample plugin from the InDesign SDK (PDFVT). This plugin writes some CIP4 metadata in the exported PDF.
My question is how can we view these CIP4 metadata using Acrobat?
Is there some other tool/software to view these metadata information on the PDF?
    Thanks in Advance.

By 'CIP4 metadata' I assume you mean JDF, in which case it's usually just an attachment to the PDF. You can view/edit the contents of a JDF file via the Print Production > JDF Job Definitions dialog box. If the JDF is attached to a PDF already, just double-click it.

  • How to view songs that were recently downloaded, but not yet assigned to a play list?

I am using the new iTunes, version 11.0.2. In the older version, there was a category for last downloads. This allowed me to to view all the downloads in one place then assign them to a playlist. Is this hidden somewhere or there is another way to see the downlods then move them?

Thanks for the tip, but I do not see a "recently added" when I view playlist. Above my created playists there is one called "purchased". This reflects those I purchased plus those downloaded from Starbucks. But this is a growing list. Perhaps I need to clear it after I download.
You cannot clear the Purchased playlist unless you delete the songs from your library. It is a smart playlist with all your purchases.
    Create a new smart playlist.
Limit to x items/size by most recently added.

  • How to view song lyrics

for my ipod touch, i added the lyrics to the songs on my itunes and added the songs to my ipod but when i try to view them while i listen to the song i cant get them to pop up and i would like to know how

This will work on an iPad, not sure about an iPod.
Launch iTunes on your computer. Right or control click a song track then click Get Info. Select the Lyrics tab. Copy/paste the lyrics then click OK, sync your iPod.
On your iPod, tap the iPod icon in the Dock. Tap to play the track you copy/pasted the lyrics for, then tap the artwork bottom left side of the window. You should see the lyrics overlay.

  • How to view metadata in iTunes music store

I have to figure out how to view metadata for songs that have been funded by a public funding agency. The artist/record label is supposed to thank the funding agency in the metadata of albums/singles. How can I view this in the iTunes store (without purchasing the songs or album) to see if the text is there?

If you already have the lyrics loaded in iTunes, this free plug-in will display the cover art with the lyrics superimposed. It is actually a visualizer.

  • How can I copy songs with metadata (added in iTunes) from my PC to my new iMac?

I have iTunes 12.0.1 on my Windows PC. I'm about to get a new iMac (hooray!) and I'm beginning the process of transferring everything on my PC to my Mac. I've got all the documents, pictures, files, etc. covered, but now I have to make a copy of all of my music.
Most of the music in my iTunes library is not bought through the iTunes Store (I download most of my songs from the Internet). Then, after saving the downloaded song to my computer, I go into iTunes on my computer and add the song. I also add metadata like artist, album, genre, album artwork, etc. to the song in iTunes. What concerns me is that only the songs in iTunes have this metadata: the original downloaded files I saved onto my computer don't have any metadata.
I really don't want to have to go through the long and tedious process of adding artist/album names, genre, etc. to every single song in my iTunes library on my new iMac. How can I copy songs with metadata (added in iTunes) from my PC to my new iMac?
Thank you so much for any help!

Hello! I'd like to learn more about Home Sharing. To do this, would both my PC (which I hope to get rid of) and my new iMac need to be plugged in?
Also, after Home Sharing with the old PC is initiated, I understand that all my songs would appear on my iMac. Is there a way to copy all of these (with album artwork, name, artist, etc.) directly to the iMac's hard drive and then disconnect home sharing so I can get rid of my PC?
    Thank you!

  • Ideas about viewing/displaying XMP metadata from Reader ?

    Hi,
We are using Acrobat 9 to add XMP metadata to PDF documents.
These documents are viewed by the others employees with Acrobat Reader.
Since "File->Properties->Advanced Metadata" and "Custom Info Panels" are not available in Reader, how can we display XMP metadata ?
Do you know some ways or plug-ins to do this ?
Our custom XMP metadata schema have more than 20 fields, so I don't want to put all these informations in the "Keywords" field of the document properties.
Any idea would be greatly appreciated !
    Thank you !

Michael... what you are describing above is not accurate.  The iPod Classic does NOT have the capability of using the "Album Artist" field from iTunes to sort music.  This particular metadata field is not even available to the iPod Classic.  Only the "Artist" field is available.  (It is the other way around with the iPod Touch, iPhone, and Ipad -- for these iOS devices, the "Album Artist" field is the one that is available, and not the "Artist" field.)  There are numerous posts here in the discussion forums from other folks who are frustrated by the same issue.  The iPod Classic can only sort and group songs together by "Artist" -- that is, the track artist.  And the track artist is often quite different from the album artist.  For example...  I have 29 different Barbra Streisand albums in iTunes.  For all of them, the album artist is "Barbra Streisand."  There are several different track artists however.  Most of them are just Barbra Streisand.  But she also does a duet or two on several albums.  So there are track artists like...  "Barbra Streisand with Kim Carnes," and "Barbra Streisand with Barry Gibb," and many more like that.  After syncing to my iPod Classic, when I sort on the iPod's "Artist" field, I get about 25 different iterations of "Barbra Streisand and .... " as the artist.  Yes, "Barbra Streisand" does appear among them.  But the only songs that are listed under "Barbra Streisand" are those that she sang by herself, and where she is the only track artist.  Given the setup of the iPod Classic as it is now, using firmware version 2.0.4, it is NOT possible to use the Album Artist field to sort and group songs together.

My dad has itunes on his PC. I don't have my own but I recently have an iPad mini and an iPod. I don't know how to get songs onto itunes on the PC, using a different account or at least private/ separate..
So how do I create a separate I tunes on a PC which already has itunes... Or if not can I plug my iPad to the PC and use itunes on my iPad, and drag mp3s from a computer.
I'm not sure what the equivalent of a desktop is on the iPad.. And I don't actually know how to use the icloud either...
Can anyone start me off, given it have a iPad and use of a PC - not mine with existing iplayer
I do have spotify soundcloud so I could potentially use these.. If there is a route of getting either mp3's etc to end up on my iPad or iPod.
    Kind Regards

If you  have iTunes 11 turn on the Sidebar.  Go to iTunes>View and click on Show Sidebar. You can also do a Crtl+S to show the sidebar. The sidebar is where Devices appears. and Control+B to show the Menu bar
To import music into your iTunes library on the computer go to iTunes>Help>iTunes Help>Add items to iTunes and follow the instructions
To sync to your iPod go to iTunes>Help>iTunes Help>Sync your iPod....>Sync You Device and follow the instructions.

  • How to view my music in list view in iTunes 11?

I am largely unimpressed with the new-look iTunes11. Before, I could very quickly scroll through my large music library in list view, but scrolling through the library is very sluggish, as iTunes has to wait for all of the album art to load.
There is a list view option for the movies, but not for music. Am I missing it somewhere?

I know how to view the sidebar. But I'm talking about viewing my songs, artists, etc. in LIST view, i.e. without the album art showing.
The LIST view is available for movies in the sort options at the top of the window, but not in the music section.
EDIT: I figured it out! By clicking on the "SONGS" sort option, then arranging by artist, it is like viewing the music library in list view.

  • How can I read out metadata for captions from a Canon photo

I have to tried to find an answer via Adobe and Google. Still not able to figure out on how to read out XMP metadata for captions out of my photos. Checking the XMP data in InDesign shows info on Camera Make, Exposure etc. But if I use metadata fields from "Caption Setup" like "Camera" the caption shows <No data from link>. Fields where the XMP field name matches (e.g. "Lens") are ok. I need following fields for the caption: Camera Make, Exposure (aperture and speed) and ISO.

    Lets keep it simple then.
If I take my utf file generated and open and view it in notepad I can see the accented characters. But if I open it in Wordpad , the accented characetrs are corrupted.
If I then save the file specifiying type Ascii, then the characters are written out correctly.
What I want to do is to be able to write out the file in ascii format without having to open it in utf-mode and then having to save it in ascii.
Ie I want the file to be opened in ascii format
All the characters to be written in Ascii format
But the source is still a unicode database.
I have gone through using convert and characters get lost. In fact, at this stage, I'm not sure its possible to do What I need to do.
Remember I am using an 8 bit character set which is why I have values above 127.
So basically if you take the word 'Annulé'
if I view it in wordpad it displays as
    Annulé
But if I view it in notepad it displays as
'Annulé' which is because notepad detects that the file has a utf-8 character in it.
When I save it as type ascii I can then open it correctly in wordpad.
So I basically want to open this file in Wordpad and have it display Annulé rather than the garbled characters,
without having to go through the process of opening and saving the file as type ansi.

  • Way to view camera-specific metadata

Is there a way to view camera specific metadata? My camera has a variety of fields that include the mode the camera was using when the picture was taken. This is not part of the standard EXIF/IPTC I believe, so bridge doesn't display it. I know it's there because other programs such as OPANDA's IEXIF does display it.
    Thanks!
    Carlos

    Curt and Jim,
    Thanks for your responses.
I do get all the "standard" fields like exposure settings and focal length. And I know how to set the preferences to display or not display any of the standard fields
    b that Adobe knows about.
However, there are other fields that my camera uses. For instance, my wife often takes pictures in Canon "vivid" mode. I have used the
    i exiftool
utility, and I cantell that the metadata actually has an entry called "My Color Mode" that tells me the picture was taken with vivid or normal. Similarly another entry will tell me whether the picture was part of a panoramic (and even whether it was left to right or right to left) or the fact that drive mode was in "single shot"
In other words, Canon actually puts in there just about every setting the camera has. Not surprising, Adobe doesn't know about all of these settings, and one wouldn't expect it to, given the huge amount of cameras on the market.
The question was whether there is an extension or some other way to "train" Adobe products to recognize other data that may be in the file. Exiftool is great for checking one or two pictures, but its command line interface doesn't lend itself well to working with the actual picture at the same time.

  • How to create OLAP Catalog Metadata from Analytic Workspace

    Hi,
How to create OLAP Catalog Metadata objects automatically from Analytic Workspace, not using CWM2_OLAP_AW_OBJECT package.
    Is there tool for it?

Analytic Workspace Manager is the supported tool from Oracle for creating OLAP catalog metadata (plus the SQL views required for BI Beans). Hopefully this should be out in June as an additional download following the 9.2.0.3x patch.
However you might want to look at IAF Software's "Coaster" product (http://www.iafsoft.com/products/coaster.htm) which also contains functionality to create the OLAP Catalog. We've had a play around with it and have been impressed.

  • View song ratings in iOS 8

I could have sworn there was a way, in iOS 8, to view each track's song (star) ratings, in list view. I know how to view the rating for the individual track that's playing, but is it possibles to view all the ratings in list view?

Please ignore my above post regarding Open IME.....!!! I had a WAV version of a song and a MP3 version of the song. It allowed me to add lyric ONLY when it was the MP3 version. When i was changing the IME it must have coincided with me changing format of song....hence why I thought it was IME!
Advice to other users.....CHECK WHICH FILE YOU ARE DRAGGING INTO ITUNES....AND DON'T DO IT WHEN TIRED!! I have multiple versions of the songs and I didn't bother checking which was which. I now realise I could have saved myself a good few hours instead of messing about..lol!
The other thing I did learn is that once you add lyric and click 'ok'...then you cannot alter it. I had to delete song from playlist...re-add...then add lyrics again. Not too sure why.... maybe a glitch...or maybe I'm just too tired.
Anyway...I think the problem lies with the format of song you import into i-tunes as mentioned in a post above.
Sorry I couldn't be of no assistance....am tired and i want to go to bed...lol
