  • Is there a tutorial on how to run the new IMovie version 10?

Can someone direct me to video tutorials on how to operate the new IMovie inside Maverick.  As has been the case recently with Apple, this update isn't necessarily user driven.  Help please.

    There's some info in iMove->Help:

  • Voiceover in new iMovie lacks major low frequency and general quality?

Anyone else observing that voiceover in the new iMovie on Mavericks sounds remarkably different?
Me: recording voiceover with the built-in mic on an early 2013 macbook pro - compared audio with previous old iMovie/mountain lion, quite a large difference. Audio previously sounded admirably rich and decent for a built in mic, but now sounds faint, tinny, missing serous low end. I've messed with the new equalizer features for voiceover - the 'Bass boost' setting certainly helped, but it overcompensates and sounds muddy in comparison to how the previous audio was.
Haven't tried using the mic in other applications to see whether the problem is local to iMovie - curious if anyone else has noticed this?
On the plus, the new interface suits me much better, and for some reason rendering movies seems to be taking about 5 minutes compared to previously 5 hours? Ok I'll take that.

I have the same problem. Just tried using iMovie 13 for the first time (have been using FCE). My microphone is a Blue Yeti, which gives superb results in FCE.
Does anybody know what's going on?

  • How to create a new iMovie library from existing events?

I have had the misfortune of loosing my Mac with all of the data on it BUT fortunately I have kept a copy of all my iMovie events backed up so I've managed to save them.
Now I have a new iMac and 500Gb+ in the "iMovie Events" folder. I've copied this folder into my Movies folder (in "home" dir) BUT since I didn't also back up the .imovielibrary file I need to create a new library for all these events. The problem I'm facing at the moment is that I'm not sure how to "import" these events in a way that will maintain all/most of the information. I've tried doing the File > Import Media and pointing it to the Movies folder BUT it looked like it was going to import all the files into a single Event, so I chickened out.
Any suggestions/recommendations? Am I doomed to importing the events one at a time?
    Thanks!

Looks like I may have found a solution.
As mentioned above I've copied the "iMovie Events" folder to the place iMovie expects it to be at. And now I've selected: File > Update Projects and Events
It has recognized that there were a bunch of events that it needed to "process" and has started reading them all.
It looks like all the events are back, I've not done extensive checking yet, but so far it looks very promising.

    Hey baseballgod44,
Great question! The following article outlines how to record video with the FaceTime HD Camera in iMovie (2013):
iMovie (2013): Record video with the FaceTime HD camera
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14675
Record live video directly into iMovie
    1. Do one of the following:
              - To record using the built-in camera: Click the Import button in the toolbar.
              - To record using an external iSight camera: Connect the iSight camera to your computer with a FireWire cable, and click the Import button in the toolbar.
    2. In the Cameras section of the Import window sidebar, select the camera you want to import from.
A live video image from the camera appears in the Import window.
    3. Do one of the following:
              - To choose an existing event to contain the video: Choose the event from the “Import to” pop-up menu at the top of the Import window.
              - To create a new event to contain the video: Choose New Event from the “Import to” pop-up menu, type a name for the new event, and press Return.
    Thanks,

  • How do you compile movie on new iMovie app?

I have been a user of the prior iMovie software.  I now have the newest version and am puzzled since when compiling a new video I cannot figure how to save it into a file which I can burn to a disk which will play on my standard blu-ray player.  When I complete a video in the new iMovie and click on "Share" and select "file" is saves a file in my computer but the file will not play on the DVD.  How do you go from the compiled video in iMovie and get a burnable file which will play on the DVD? (If I click on this file to open it, it will not open.) Is there some other software which is necessary? Thank you for any suggestions?  I did download "Quicktime Player 7 Pro" into my utility folder, but I can't see how this helps.

I'll stay in this chat ... I answered in the other one ... I have a Sony digital Handycam ... from years ago.  I just got the LaCie and I think I formatted it for only to be used on my Mac ... how should I go about reformatting it to be HFS Extended like you said?

  • How to turn off ken burns effect in new imovie

The new iMovie---11--  how in the heck do I turn off the Ken Burns effect? Nothing against Mr Burns but.... I don't want everything to move!
    Thanks!

Go to File/Project Properties and you can define the default behavior for adding stills to your project.
After clicking File/Project Properties, you will click on the Timing Tab. There you will see how to set the default still photo duration and the initial photo placement.
You an set it as Ken Burns, Fit, or Crop. You can always change it later in the Rotate, Crop, Ken Burns tools, but if you are importing a lot, it makes sense to set the default as the one you are most likely to need.

  • How do I create a still photo from a video in the new iMovie?

How do I creat a still photo from a video in the new iMovie?

I'll assume you want to create a still to use outside FCPX, not a still frame within FCPX.  It's kinda hidden in the "share."  Go File/Share/Add Destination.  You want "Save Current Frame."  After you've created that destination, it'll be there for you in the future under Share.

  • Hate the new iMovie how to I revert to the old version?

loaded movie clips thinking the new iMovie with updates would be better than the pervious version....WRONG!!!  New version is much more difficult to use.  How do I revert to the old version??? HELP!! My job depends on getting this video together my MONDAY!! YIKES!

The install of iMovie 10 doesn't remove the previous iMovie version 9 or any of its files.
Look for it in your HD/Applications folder.

  • How do I migrate my old iMovie video files into the new iMovie software version?

When my computer recently updated to the most recent software version, specifically the new iMovie software, all of my past iMovie files filmed and saved under the previous software became 'unplayable' in the new iMovie version. How do I import and update the old files to make them playable and part of my iMovie library?

You have to upgrade your iMovie 9 projects from iMovie 10 before you can use them.  See:

  • How can I fix red flashing tint in new iMovie?

I imported a .mov file into the new imovie version and now I am getting a red flashing tint....how can i fix this??

    dasacom,
In addition to what imagecollection said, the Live Rectangle bug is limited to the MAC versions starting with 10.7 and 10.8, but not 10.9 (Mavericks) or 10.10 (Yosemite). Hopefully, the bug will be fixed soon.
So a switch to Mavericks or Yosemite with a reinstallation might be the way to solve it here and now.
To get round it in each case, it is possible to Expand the Live Rectangles to get normal old fashioned rectangles, or to Pathfinder>Unite, or to use the Scale Tool or the Free Transform Tool.
A more permanent way round that is to create normal old fashioned rectangles, after running the free script created by Pawel, see this thread with download link:
