How to wake mac every 20 minutes
Hello
I have a simple goal and I think I found a 3rd party solution but it's overkill for my needs.
I need the mac to wake from sleep every 20 minutes or so and trigger OpenDNS updater.
I can't find anything in google and a Calendar automator script failed to wake the mac.

I happen to own a 27 inch i7 3.4. It uses 142W per hour, that is much greater than an energy efficient light bulb.
I am afraid I really do need a power manager of sorts, I have to play around with Power Manager 4.1.3 for now. It would appear to wake my mac at a designated time of my choosing, open OpenDNS Updater and then go back to sleep.
Ideally, the router would be able to submit it's public IP address to OpenDNS dashboard but not apparently.

Safari crashing on my mac every 10 minutes.

and also that you follow the instructions closely, such as closing ALL applications first before installing. You must also carry out a permission repair after installing anything from Adobe.

.Mac mail to iphone not occuring every 30 minutes as set
I have the phone set to retrieve mail from .Mac every 30 minutes. It is not doing this. When I go into Mail, that is when it starts to retrieve mail.
It seemed to be working a few days ago. I wonder if this stopped with the 1.1.1 update?The difference between POP and IMAP are the difference in how the two protocols work. Essentially, messages are removed from the email host's servers (in your case swbell.net) when using POP, wherease IMAP leaves a copy of the messages on the server for later. You will notice a difference for instance, if you had another machine you wanted to set up a mail client on or if you had to perform an erase in reinstall, you'd lose all emails if you used POP without making the client leave the messages on the server since they only exist on your mac.
In Mac Mail's Preferences -> Accounts -> Account Information, you can tell Mac Mail to stop deleting the message from the server so your iPad and other devices can also grab the messages as well.
As far as mailboxes, with a POP account, those mailboxes are created locally, so they only exist on your mac. If the account was IMAP, you'd have the option to create the mailbox on the server, which would allow you to not worry about losing messages in the event of an erase and reinstall, especially if you didn't have a backup.
The iPhone and other devices will only be able to grab what is set up on the server, so in my opinion, IMAP is the superior protocol, as it has less chance for data loss than POP, even if you don't have a backup. Providers such as GMail and Yahoo offer both, but most Gmail accounts are IMAP, and it simply depends on your account if your provider is Yahoo.
iCloud is completely different; It is an IMAP email server provided by Apple. Think of it as another email address you have. Unfortunately, it will do you no good unless you start using it for email as you do with your current one.

My mac pro (SL 10.6.8) wakes up every minutes when I use wake on lan and I share one of my Hard Drive.
When I unplug the ethernet cable it doesn't wake any more so I suppose that some thing wakes it up on my network ( 1 printer canon MP620, 2 mac books, 2 iPads, 2 IPhones and 2 time capsules !) ...even when all these devices are "sleeping"

I have an iMac, and have a Verizon DSL account (3 email addresses). Recently, my Mac Mail keeps requesting the passwords on my accounts every few minutes, and will not allow me to send messages using Mac Mail (the message says that the outgoing server was rejected. I cannot edit the outgoing server, and the keychain will not save my passwords (the ports are valid). How can I change the outgoing server to send emails, and how can I avoid having Mail request my passwords every 2 minutes? Verizon, as usual, will not provide support to iMacs.
Is there an email saved in your drafts or outbox folder? I suspect that Mail is continually trying to send it, and each time Google is rejecting the email message.
You can open the message and then delete it from your Outbox folder. Then try removing all @gmail email addresses from it and seeing whether you can send to the other folks. I suspect that will work.
With email, if an SMTP server *can* verify email addresses, sometimes it will and it will refuse to send messages. If a message has to be relayed across servers, no verification is done, and you'll get a bounce if an email address is bad. -
How to resolve every 5 minute logout issues from macbook after updating to Mac OS X 10.8.5?
After updating my macbook from OS X 10.8.4 to OS X 10.8.5, I have been experiencing automatic logout and quit all applications every 5 minutes specially during idle period. Although, the password requires to be activated after sleep or screen saver begins from General Tab of Security & Privacy pane is 1 hour. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
There is a preference to log out after a certain amount of time. Check Security System Prefs. I think it is buried in there somewhere. I'm on an iPad at the moment, so can't check for it.
I don't know how it would have been activated with the update. It shouldn't have. -
My podcasts stop every two minutes - how can I fix?

I'm hoping someone may be able to suggest how I can fix this annoying problem:
When I listen to podcasts on my iPod nano, they stop every two minutes. I have to then press wake button and then the play button. Then it stops again after about two minutes as if it had gone to sleep. So I repeat the above steps ad infinitum. Only had it a few days and don't think this is normal or know how to fix or if should take it in for a serviceperson to look at. Can anyone with similar experience or any advice please respond. Thanks Ben.The most likely problem is that the headset jack is not fully inserted. With the 1.1 update,there is a feature that senses when a headset is inserted. If there is not one, it pauses playback when the screen goes dark to preserve battery life.
Many folks have had an issue with not fully inserting the headset. When the headset is fully seated, you will hear and feel it click into position. You should not be able to see ANY of the silver of the plug when the headset jack is fully inserted, if you can, it is not in far enough. If you have have pushed it in as far as you can - as hard as you can, then there may be debris in there. Any debris could cause this, since the sensor that tells the nano that the headset is seated is at the bottom of the hole for the headset jack

Is there any mac/iOS app or feature I can use to alert me every five minutes?
I need an app or a feature on Mac, iPhone, or iPad that will send me a push notification or some kind of alert every five minutes.
I would rather not set up a million calendar alerts or alarms, as I will have to be using this a lot.
It will need to run in the background, especially if it's an ios app.
I would rather not use an iOS app that makes noise but doesn't send a push notification.
An iOS app is preferred, but anything works.
System alternatives will be accepted as well.
And no, I cannot simply ask Siri to do it, as I have tried in the past, and she says she can't do alerts that frequent.

How to stop Calendar app from asking for my icloud password every 5 minutes
On Mac OS X 10.9.5
Recently the Calendar app pops up a window every few minutes asking for my iCloud password. I am sure I am entering the correct password, and selecting Remember password in my keychain - but it doesn't help. I have tried switching off Calendars in my iCloud settings, waiting then switching it on again. I have restarted my computer (several times). Nothing seems to help. The problem started since setting up 2-step authentication for my iCloud account. Any help much appreciated - It is really annoying!I found this on the Flexibit website.
Why does Fantastical ask for my iCloud password after enabling two-factor authentication for iCloud?
Apple recently made a change and now requires app-specific passwords when using two-factor authentication with iCloud. Please read this on how to set it up: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT6186.
If you've set up an app-specific password and Fantastical is still not accepting the new password, make sure that you aren't accidentally pasting in a return with the password. iCloud's website will include a return at the end of the password if you copy and paste the password directly from the iCloud website, which will cause the app-specific password to be rejected. -

Thanks for the response gakker, but I've double-checked the camera / iPhoto / Image Capture scenario, and I'm 100% positive it's got nothing to do with that.
Plugging in my iPhone has no effect on anything related to this.
The other thing I should have mentioned is that when iTunes on my Mac is NOT running, then nothing happens on my iPhone screen when I plug it in to my Mac. I only get the "Sync in progress" message when iTunes IS running.
It's interesting though that you say you also get this "Sync in progress" message, albeit only for a second or two though.
Can I just double-check something with you however... When you say:

do you mean the iTunes on your Mac? Because the problem I have is that the iPod-playback on my iPhone is interrupted.
So can you clarify that for me, please? If you have music playing on your iPhone, and you then plug your iPhone into your Mac when iTunes is running on your Mac, does the music playback on the iPhone get interrupted? -

Yes, you have to connect the iPod to that computer and go to the Photos pane for the iPod in iTunes and uncheck sync photos and the click on synce/apply. In the future do not check sync photos.

- Settings>Messages>Send and receive and sign out your ID and sign into hers. Make sure that only her ID email address is listed.
- Settings>FaceTime sign out of your ID and sign into hers. Make sure that under You can be reached at only her ID email address is listed
- Settings>iCloud and sign out and sign in with hers
Contnue to use the commpn ID/account for Settings>iTunes and App stores. -
Mac Mini Connected to TV Causes Blank Pauses every ten minutes
I hope someone can help with a small but frustrating issue I'm having.
I have a Mac Mini (2011) hooked up to a new 1080p television. The mini goes via HDMI straight to the TV, no adapters. The mini is also connected to a regular computer monitor simultaneously, set to mirror.
Until this week, I had an identical setup with an older, smaller hd television, where the mini was connected to the TV with an HDMI -> DVI adapter and also to the same second monitor. The TV was off most of the time, I only turned it on to watch a movie off my hard drive or whatever.
Here's the problem: When the new TV is OFF, every ten minutes or so with the monitor goes blank and resets, as if someone unplugged the HDMI connection and then plugged it back in the quickly. While this happens the Mac is frozen for about 5 seconds. I can reproduce the same effect by actually unplugging the HDMI wire. It is also the same pause that happens when I change the monitor and TV displays from mirroring to non-mirroring (side-by-side).
This only happens when the TV is off. If the TV is on, there is no issue.
I'd like to be able to sit at my desk using the monitor without the TV screen on, as I was able to do with my older television. I never had this problem with that TV over many months.
Is there any kind of setting change that might help?
I'm guessing the TV being off causes the HDMI connection to be occasionally lost and then the MAC resumes/redetects the TV, triggering the display to reset, but I think it is odd that this only happens after the thing has been off for ten minutes (and then repeats regularly). I've fiddled with the power options and energy saving settings on the TV, none of them seem to have any effect. Is there anything I can do on the Mac side? The only other option I can think of is to actually unplug the TV when I'm not using it, but that would get old fast.
Any advice would be appreciated. I've tried turning off mirroring, turning the TV off while not having the HDMI input active at that moment, and turning off all power saving options on the TV. I expect this is more a "tv problem" than a Mac problem, but it can't hurt to ask.
BrettI couldnt get it to work even though I tried disconnecting an connecting the modules again. When I replaced the 4gb modules with the ones that came with the computer it started working perfectly.
Does this mean that one of the modules might be damaged? I am going to try connecting one of the factory ram and one of the ones I bought to see which is the one that doesn't work and see if I can replace it.

So how does this work on Mountain Lion? I cannot seem to ignore the iTunes 11 updates, which now seem to appear every 5 minutes!!
Fantastic! Didn't work at first so restarted App store and tried again. This time it asked 'ignore update'. All gone!

Every now and then (every 15 minutes-half an hour or so), my internet fails. It says in the Diagnostics that the internet and server have failed. Happens on my sister's mac as well. Is this our modem? Our PCs don't do this so it has something to do with the macs.

I'm starting to think it's either an AirPort card issue or something to do with the Mac OS. I have stopped using wireless as much as possible in my home (have wired up several new Ethernet outlets), and it sure is nice having Internet run at the speed it's supposed to all the time, and with no drops. Might be something to consider.
In the meantime:
Open System Preferences > Network > select AirPort > click on Advanced > TCP/IP > Configure IPv6 > Off > OK > Apply > Turn AirPort Off > Turn AirPort On
Open System Preferences > Network > select Ethernet > click on Advanced > TCP/IP > Configure IPv6 > Off > OK > Apply
(FOR LION: If you can’t see an option to turn ipv6 off, set it to link-local only.)
