How To Watch .AVI Files

I Was wondering how to get quicktime to read .avi files or if there is any programs out there to use on macs to watch .avi files.
I am not doing anything illegal either, i bought a disc from my local cd store that has music videos on them in .avi format.
Anyone please help?

Try DivX.
http://www.divx.com/
At the bottom, click download Divx. That will take you here:
http://www.divx.com/divx/?src=footercontact_from/index.php
Look for the Mac version.
Download it.
It can work miracles. Though there are still some AVI files you won't be able to read. AVI is only a container. Many variations exist within. Some Windoze produced avi's continue to elude me. I do my best trying to keep up and only know a little. But I know DivX works well.

  • Megaview 561 - how to watch avi files with DC3 audio?

I have a Megaview 561. I love it. I wish MSI supported it with updates!!!!!
Anyway, my problem is watching (or rather, listening) to movies I am trying to watch which use DC3 audio instead of MP3 audio. I know I can re-encode the whole movie, but that takes forever.
Anyone know what the solution is? Any way to get something like AC3Filter to work on a MegaView? Any suggestions appreciated!
    Thanks

most firmware requests that people make, such as the one at the start of this topic, are simply impractical due to copyright and licensing issues
its not a case of MSI not being able to issue firmware updates as and when; if the current firmware code works, then why fix it? i'd feel much more confident buying a product that had no firmware upgrades than one that had loads to fix silly little issues.
there are so many diffferent video and audio codecs out there that to provide support for them all would be near impossible, if not illegal without the relevant license
Hi and thanks for the relevant response. As I stated, I'm happy with the MSI Megaview. And yes, the firmware code works. But clearly there is room for improvement as a movie with a DC3 soundtrack will not have audio. I guess it's in the eye of the beholder if the lack of audio is a silly little issue or a major annoyance. It's not the end of the world...after all, it's just a movie . I guess I was hoping that there may be some way that I could modify something so that these movies will have sound (without having to reencode the entire movie); that perhaps there is a workaround that would not involve a firmware or software update / upgrade from MSI. For example, with Windows, you simply download and install the codecs or something like AC3 Filter or AC3 Decoder. Do you know of any such workaround?
I judge from your response that installing or updating codecs is not possible to do on the Megaview 561?
Thanks again for the help. Cheers

  • How I can watch *.avi files on OS9.2.2?

Can anybody tell me, how I can watch *.avi files on OS9.2.2? I've installed plenty of codecs (DivX, 3ivx) for QuickTime, but have only video WITHOUT sound! Somebody says, that I need AC3... I've tryed install it too, but without result...
My system: OS 9.2.2, QuickTime Pro v.6
    iMac G3 (OS X), Pismo with OS9

Take a look at the DivX Doctor 2 info on the 3ivx site. It has some info on AC3 audio, although I am not sure if it applies to OS 9.

  • How to export/watch .avi files using Quicktime Pro

    Hi there.
I've got Quicktime Pro and I'm trying to convert .avi files so I can play them on my iPhone. I open up the .avi file in Quicktime and then slect the Movie to iPhone option.
It will take about 20 mins or so, but when I open the file all I get is a white screen even though the timer is showing that the movie is playing.
I can't even watch .avi files using Quicktime as all I get is a black screen.
    Could someone please help?
    Thanks

Thanks, but unfortuntately that didnt work. MPEG Streamclip couldn't play any of the .avi files, it still came up with a white screen while playing.
I tried this with a number of .avi files but I had the same problem.

  • How to watch .avi video in iphone?

Hi I use win Vista and I just bought a new iphone. Everything works well. Only one question is : how to watch .avi video in iphone. I download a lot of video in that format but cannot add them into intunes, therefore cannot sync into iphone. I search the web and know the problem is quickplayer doesn't support this video format. Is there any solution to tranform .avi video format to any format which quickplayer support?
Another question is : I bought some TV show DVD ( like Grey's anatomy, House, etc.) How can I sync those films into itunes then sync into my iphone, so I can enjoy it at lunch time at work.
Thanks for you help in advance.

The iPhone cannot play AVI videos. You'll need to convert them before you can load and play them on your iPhone. If you search the Using iTunes for Windows forum for "video convert", you'll find a lot of threads on this subject already.
I bought some TV show DVD ( like Grey's anatomy, House, etc.)
Sorry, but DVDs are copy-protected and cannot legally be converted. It's a violation of the Discussions terms of use to talk about such ripping.

have downloaded flip4mac to watch .avi files on quicktime but still not able to access files. Any suggestions? Thanks L

Flip4Mac plays Windows Media content, not AVI content. The codec needed to play those specific AVI files is most likely part of Perian or VLC but may not exist for Mac OS X.

  • How can I watch AVI files over a network?

It was not without hesitation on my part that I started a new thread—I was convinced there was a large body of information available on this subject. That I was correct in this (for there seem a plethora of articles and links) was unfortunately no help to me.
After suffering the humiliation of my PC-championing roommate show me how to connect to another computer so I could access some AVI files, I ran into the problem of not having my Quicktime player compatible with them. I attempted a number of downloads, including a DivX player, the VLC player, as well as adding XVIDD and on2vp3 components to my Quicktime library folder.
Currently, none of these have worked. Anyone have a clue about what I need to do?

Phillip, AVI Files are infact for Windows Video and for you to be able to acsess them and play them you will have to download a Windows Media Player and you will probably have to choose it when you want to view them. Quicktime is your default player on your Mac you will have to change that when you download the windows player, I would leave it as Quicktime and choose the windows when you want to view them.

Here is where you can download there player.

  • How to import .AVI Files to IMOVIE, or burn them to DVD directly.

I downloaded a .avi video file from the internet. I want to burn it to a DVD so I can watch it on my DVD player. So what do I do? Can I burn it directly to a DVD? if so, how? Or Do I have to put it in IMOVIE and burn it from there? If it's through IMOVIE, how do I get the .avi file in, because I tried to, and it says its to big I need to cut it in segments using Quicktime pro, which I don't have.
Please someone help me, let me know what is the easiest thing to do.
    Thankyou

    Rats.
OK, bring it into iMovie. This will convert to DV (usually making the file much larger). iDVD reads DV files.
If the movie is longer than about 9 minutes, you may need to split it:
