I turned it back on, then it said restoring previous version of windows, then died. No when I start up all that happens is a black screen with mouse and nothing works exept BIOS options. Please help!

Hi xXSkyK1llerXx, Welcome to the HP forum! Thank you for you post, I will do my best to assist you. I understand  you tried to upgrade to Windows 8.1 , but before it completed, the unit overheated and shut down.  When you restarted the unit, you received a message, it was restoring the previous version of Windows and died. Now when you startup, it goes to the bios screen.  I suggest you restore the bios  Restoring the BIOS to start, then do a system recovery.Performing an HP System Recovery (Windows 8).This should bring the unit back to factory. Here is document on updating Windows 8 to 8.1 to assist you with the upgrade. Updating Windows 8 to 8.1. Please let me know the outcome.

You need to boot the computer from another source, e.g. a CD or an external drive. Then run Disk Utility, select the drive you want cleaned up, and run Erase. Note the security options: "write zeroes" will erase the drive completely.

  • How to disable sound card on A20m...Is there a BIOS option?

I'm trying to use an after market sound card but I think I'm having conflicts even when disabling the Crystal sound in the device manager.  Anyway to disable it in the Bios?

    Welcome to the forum!
There is no BIOS option for disabling the sound card, but you can:
    a) Un-install the drivers for it and see if it helps.
    b) Change the IRQ setting to see whether that removes the conflict you were referring to.
Good luck and let us know.

  • Satellite A665-147 - How to unlock BIOS option?

    Hello,
I have a A665-147 and i want to change cpu voltage and other things to improve my battery life.
But in the BIOS you can do nothing . I remember on my old PC you could unlock advanced mode by pressing alt+F1.
    Could anyone help me ?
Sorry for my english i'm french

There is big difference between BIOS options on desktops and notebooks. In notebook BIOS you will find pretty general options. Due to specific design and construction I presume that notebook manufacturers dont allow too much control over installed hardware. They just want to prevent eventual damage that can be caused by changing certain BIOS options.
You want to reduce power consumption but other people want to have more powerful machine.

  • New Mac PRO - Windows 8 Pro Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's bios menu

    Hello all,
I got a new Mac Pro 2013, and am trying to install windows 8 using the Boot Camp Utility.  It creates a 200GB partition, partitioned in FAT.  Having done this on my other computers, I usually hit advanced options and then reformat the partition as NTFS.  I then install.  When i format, I still get this error:
Windows 8 cannot be installed - ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's bios menu.  I'm not sure how to get past this step.  I am trying to boot from the windows 8 CD and run setup after I partition the drive.  I have the USB key with the apple setup files on it.
    What am I missing?

Apparently installing via an ISO fixed this issue for me.

  • How do I reflash my BIOS?

I have contacted HP customer support previously about this issue. A local PC repair company installed a pirated copy of windows 8 on this PC last year, and HP sent me a set of recovery disks to revert this PC to factory defaults. This has failed every time we have tried it, using different configurations, legacy mode, etc. We have sincre replaced the hard drive ourselves, to no avail. I have been told by a technician that I need to "Reflash the BIOS." I am unsure on how to do this, as I cannot access the computer or even boot it up properly, the operating system fails to boot every time with the error code 0xc0000001, and tells me to"use recovery tools such as installation media," and as I stated earlier, no matter what we do, they will not work, returning me to the exact same screen. How can I Reflash the BIOS when I cannot access this PC beyond the boot menus?

i would flash the bios if i were you. but for the scenario you might want to try the following until you get teh recovery discs to boot:set the bios to default > rebootforce boot thru f9 >  boot to the ODD by selecting it under legacy boot device <usually its SATA1 or SATA2>go to bios  > to to secure boot options > follow the prompts then disable secured boot and enable legacy boot <this applies to windows8 compatible mobos>force boot thru f9 >  boot to the ODD by selecting it under legacy boot device <usually its SATA1 or SATA2> * if you get the loading screen for the recovery manager then your on our way to getting the os reloaded* if not then the unit needs to be picked up for reimaging < you would need to have that check if its avalable thru phone>* if not then you definitely need a set of recovery disc ordered thru 3rdparty  sites like computersurgeons*if not then last course of action is to get a retail OS  <i hope it doesnt go that far> cheers!

  • BIOS option to "permanently disable" Computrace

    Hi,
In the T500 BIOS Setup is the option:
    Security:Computrace: Computrace Module Activation
    with 3 possible values:
    Enabled (default?)
    Disabled
    Permanently Disabled
I think I understand how Computrace BIOS works: on boot the BIOS checks and makes sure the necessary drivers/services are present in the OS filesystem before the supported OS boots. The Computrace service then runs "hidden" in the OS and periodically phones home.
What I'd like to know is what happens if I select the BIOS option "Permanently Disabled". Is the Computrace checker/loader deleted from the BIOS? Is it possible to ever turn Computrace back on at a later date, perhaps by flashing the BIOS?
    Thanks,
    Frank

This field lets you Activate or Disable the BIOS module interface of the optional Computrace(R) Service from Absolute(R) Software. The Computrace agent from Absolute Software is a service solution designed to help track assets and provide recovery services in the event the notebook is lost or stolen. The Computrace agent communicates with the Absolute Software Monitoring Server at programmed intervals to provide the tracking service. By activating the service, you consent to the transmission of information from and to your computer and the Absolute Software Monitoring Server. The Computrace service is purchased as a separate option and the monitoring Server will enable its agent security module through an interface provided by the BIOS. The Computrace tracking agent can only be used in the US, UK, Canada, and Australia. Computrace(R) and Absolute(R) are registered trademarks of Absolute Software Corporation.
Disable = Permanently block the Computrace module interface.
Deactivate = Block the Computrace module interface (default).
Activate = Permit the Computrace module interface.
The Absolute Anti-Theft solution is presently Deactivated. Note that the Activate or Disable options will permanently Activate or Disable the feature and no further changes will be allowed.
Also, if people are wondering about the service - for home users you can get info here: http://www.lojackforlaptops.com/learnmore.asp
For all of the software solutions - the info is here: http://www.absolute.com/
do you have renter's or home owners insurance? if so, it isn't worth it.
second, it only works if someone is going to use it on the internet.
third, you should read the terms for recovery http://www.absolute.com/PDF/EULA.pdf
which means that even if they recover the lappie, they do not cover the fact that it may be damaged or data lost. you must also always have it automatically loaded to connect regularily...if you are travelling and using dial up that may mean extra phone expenses. once lappie is located, the cops have to get the lappie...if it is outside recovery territory, your loss. it is recovery and not insurance in case of theft. and the nice catcher that if you didn't take precautions to safeguard against the theft, then it doesn't guarantee the recovery nor pay the $1000 if they cannot recover it (para 8.9). another important note, is that $1000 is max, and decreases annually (para 9).
    prices are:
LoJack for Laptops - 4 year term US$119.99
LoJack for Laptops - 3 year term US$99.99
LoJack for Laptops - 2 year term US$79.99
LoJack for Laptops - 1 year term US$49.99
if you have insurance, i think it is absurd to buy these things. it is like buying lojack for a car, rather useless.

  • How do I fix corrupted BIOS? tx2500

My tx2500 gives the double LED flash that signals it has a corrupted BIOS.  According to this URL you can "restore BIOS from onboard backup (jumpers)."  If anybody has an idea what this means and how to fix my computer I would be very thankful.

    Select BIOS / Firmware Management
Option - Download the BIOS file from your notebook's own webpage -- Software and Downloads section
Extract the contents and put the files onto the root of a USB thumbdrive
Connect the thumbdrive to a USB 2.0 port on your system
    Connect the AC power adapter.
From a complete shut down condition (all off),
    Press the power button and
Immediately hold the Windows key while tapping on the "B" key

  • How can I get all the options of Field Point Explorer 3.0.2 in Measurement and Automation Explorer 3.1?

I am a student using LabVIEW and Compact Field Point to implement a
senior design project in Electrical and Computer Engineering.  We
have LabVIEW 7.1 and a cFP-2020 and additional modules.  We are
trying to use the CTR-500 module to output a pulse train to drive a
stepper motor.  We have found instructions online of how to do
this, but they all use Field Point Explorer.  The instructions
make use of options in Field Point Explorer that are not included in
Measurement and Automation Explorer (the software included with the
    cFP).
I have downloaded Field Point Explorer 3.0.2 and followed the
directions.  Now, in LabVIEW, when I using the newly created .iak
file, I get a dialogue asking to find the SubVI: 'FP Read (Float Array
-IO).vi'.  Included with LabVIEW are subvis for FP Read, but not
with the float array part.  So I figure I cannot use Field Point
Explorer created .iaks with LabVIEW 7.1.  So how cannot I access
the same options in Measurement and Automation that I was able to find
    in Field Point Explorer?
    Thanks

    Hi,
FieldPoint Explorer is no longer used to configure FieldPoint systems. However, I do not think that the configuring your system in FieldPoint Explorer is causing the error.
FieldPoint systems are now setup in Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX).  Information on setting up FieldPoint systems in MAX can be found in the MAX help under: Installed Products>> FieldPoint. Also, I recommend upgrading to the latest FieldPoint driver and version of MAX.  The FieldPoint VI's will be slightly different when you upgrade, so there is a good chance that this will eliminate the error.

I think it's QuickTime player causing the problem, when I try to open it I get the windows error that an error has occured
Let's try swapping out your QuickTime again, taking a few extra explicit precautions this time.
Head into your Add/Remove programs. uninstall QuickTime.
Next, we’ll manually remove any leftover program files and folders.
    1. On the Start menu, click My Computer (or double-click My Computer on the Desktop).
    2. In My Computer, open Local Disk.
    3. Open Program Files.
    4. Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.
    5. Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\.
    6. Remove the files QuickTime.qts and QuicktimeVR.qtx. (If “Hide filename extensions for known file types” is enabled on the PC, then those two files will appear as “QuickTime” and QuickTimeVR”.)
    7. Restart your computer.
Now download and save a copy of the latest standalone QuickTime installer to your hard drive. (We'll run the install from there rather than online.)
Latest Quicktime Installers … get the one that doesn’t mention iTunes
Switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the install. Start the install by doubleclicking the QuickTimeInstaller.exe.
If that install goes through okay, restart the PC and try launching iTunes again. Does your iTunes launch properly now?
(If you get an error message on the QuickTime uninstall or standalone reinstall, let us know what it says. Include error message numbers if you're getting any.)

  • How to enter flex 10 bios?

Ok, seems like a daft question, right?
I bought one of these a few days ago and I cannot find a way of getting into the bios, other than via windows 8.1 itself. If this goes wrong, and I cannot boot it, I need to know how to get into the bios from the off state.
As far as I can tell there is no novo button to talk of, and I have googled the hell out of trying to find an online solution, all to no avail. I refuse to believe that there is no way of getting in to the bios on a computer, so, does anyone have any idea how it's done?
I don't want to actually change anything at this point, but at some stage in the future I may, also, I see this question has been asked before but without an answer.
