How to wipe original iphone clean?

How do I wipe all the info from my phone if lost or stolen? I have addresses and personal info that I would not want someone having access to....I have the passcode set on my phone, but I am searching for more security than that if I misplace my phone.
Steve Jobs said it was possible to wipe it clean if you lose your phone, but I haven't seen anything on how to do it.....does anyone know?
Thanks so much for all the help!

The only way to remotely wipe an iPhone running firmware version 2.0 or later is with an iPhone that is accessing an Exchange Account which can be done from the Exchange Server only.
I know the passcode lock is only 4 digits, but unless you are using 0000 or 1111, someone would have to be lucky in guessing your passcode, or have to spend a good amount of time going through every possible 4 number passcode combination.

• How to activate original iPhone (OS 3.1.3)

I have a original iPhone (software - 3.1.3) that has a sim card in it (not the original one) and I would like to activate it without signing up for a 2 year contract with ATT. basically use it as an itouch. I have called ATT and they absolutely refuse to activate it without contract and apple reps tell me that there is nothing they can do since I don't have the original sim in it...:(
is there any hope to get this done?
what would happen if you used a sim from a newer iPhone that currently has service and switched that service to the old phone, got it going and then moved the sim over to the newer phone and swap again.... any complications that I might face?
thank you so much - blaskjar

I, too, have an original iPhone that my son has been using as an iPod Touch. I never had a sim card in it and have never updated it. He can't play some of the games that you can get from the App store some times.
I still do have the original SIM card. when I put the card in I got the sign to plug in and all that. It came up with my cell number and wanted to add some texting so I hit cancel. Does anyone understand that?
Also, I had heard stories of when you updated the original iPhone that it pretty much locked it up. Can you update a phone without a SIM card (stupid question - I know!)
Thanks!

• I've downloaded music on my iphone 4s and went to plug it into my computer and I don't know how to make sure it doesn't wipe my iphone clean when it syncs.

I'm plugging my iphone into my computer for the first time and it is asking me if I want to "set up my iphone". I have already loaded a lot of things onto my iphone directly from the device and want to know if it will all clear out when I sync it to my computer.

• About to sell my macbook, how to wipe hard drive clean

I'm about to sell my macbook (I've upgraded) , how would I wipe the hard drive, the whole computer for that matter, clean of all websites I've visited, passwords etc?
Anything else you can suggest? Like clear all bookmarks, and in Safari pull down menu, I guess 'reset safari' and 'empty cache' too, etc?
And in Accounts under System preferences can I change the name? I see I can change the password, sorry I'm not too computer proficient...I hate to miss something.
Thanks all

Here's what you need to do:
1. Re-install Mac OS (don't choose an option that keeps the old files, wipe it clean!)
2. After re-installing, open Disk Utility, and run the Erase Free Space utility on your newly formatted drive. This will ensure that your old files can't be recovered.
If you want your personal data off of your Macbook, simply doing step one will NOT be enough!!! Erasing and deleting are two different things. (Step one deletes, step 2 erases.)
Also, what chipperz posted should work.

• How to wipe Internet settings clean

Some time back I hooked ethernet (Roadrunner) to my Powerbook. Ever since I am unable to get into my own network over airport. I keep getting that my machine has a self assigned IP address and I can't get Internet. I have tried all the hints here in the forums and nothing works. I even dropped into the terminal using ipconfig and checked en0 for the ipaddress.
How can I wipe the settings on this powerbook and gain wireless access to the Internet again? The funny thing is I can jump on my neighbors network and surf all day with no problem, yet I can't get into my own Internet. I have security on WEP and can get access to the router, but it isn't assigning me a new ip no matter what I do.
I have tried Dlink 524 and the New Belkin G+ routers and all to the save avail... NO internet, yet I can log into the network.
I have reset the Earthlink Cable modem, reset the router, changed routers, created a new user and it is all the same.
Anyone know how to fix this?
I am stumped.
Thanks in advance.
G5 DP 2.0, 20" FPw, Raptor boot drv. & Seagate 160 Mac OS X (10.4.6) S/E W600i

I'd try a few things...
first off.... turn off computer, router, modem, etc.
then unplug the AC power from the cable modem AND unscrew the coax cable from it. Let sit for like 10 minutes.
Then screw coax cable back into box, plug in AC, reconnect to router, and plug in router, etc.
When your mac starts up, test and see if it works.
If not.... then go to Sytem Preferences/Network
then click on SHOW and select Network Port Configurations.
Then DELETE your aiport or wireless settings, etc.
Under the LOCATION tab, do the same...and delete locations...
Then click apply now...restart computer.
then go back to System Preferences/Network.
go to SHOW and select NETWORK STATUS
you may see an option for your internet connection with either a green dot or red dot next to it. Red dot usually means there's no internet connection.
Double click on it.
It will take you to the TCP/IP/PPPoE/AppleTalk/Proxies/Ethernet settings. If your internet setup is by using a DHCP, click on RENEW DHCP Release button a couple times (waiting a few seconds in between each clicking).
Then apply now, once you setup your settings, etc..... Then restart.
Upon restart, check your router settings. Your router may have simply wigged out....may just need to be reset... check your DHCP or IP settings on the router and make sure that WEP passwords are correct etc.
I can't think of anything more. I hope this helps.

Hello sehrimbabes,
I would recommend resetting the phone with this procedure then try again:
Resetting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

• How to wipe an iphone that is offline?

I need to erase it, and since it's disabled, it can't come online. Or can it?

If it is offline, you have no way of communicating with it, so you obviously have no control over it at all.

• How to wipe iphone clean remotely if lost/stolen?

How do you wipe (destroy) all content on your iphone if it is lost/stolen? I haven't lost my iphone, but I want to know how if it is lost or stolen.
I know this is possible because I watched the keynote address of Steve Jobs and he explained that since the iphone has the capabilities of syncing with your computer remotely, you have the power to completely wipe your iphone clean if it is lost/stolen, yet I have not seen any information anywhere on how to do this. Obviously I can't plug it into my computer to wipe it clean if it is lost/stolen, so how do you do it remotely?

Just restore the phone in iTunes and set it up as a new phone.
is there any way to keep the apps I have bought on there?
They will sync back as they are store in iTunes.

Complete procedure for an Erase and Install of OSX Snow Leopard here Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard: How to Erase and Install
I assume that you bought the OSX Lion 10.7 Upgrade at the Mac App Store.
If so, then you can't sell it with your MacBook, since the license is tied to your own AppleID and not to the MacBook.

• How wipe hard drive clean without a disk and reinstall OS?

Running a 15" Mid 2010, OS 10.8.3; after migrating Profile to new MacBook want to wipe hard drive clean & reinstall Mountain Lion 10.8.3 in order to give to daughter as a "new" computer. All I can find in archived discussions is how to do it w/ a disk.

Yes I would.
The iLife Apps, "i" Photo, Movie and Garageband (And "i" DVD and WEB if you Mac came with Snow Leopard originally), are not included with the Operating system. They are separate applications that you need to either download from the Mac App Store, from your Purchases area once you have logged into the MAS with the Apple ID you used to register that Mac with, or from the second System Reinstall Disc, the Applications disc, that came with your Mac if it originally came with Snow Leopard.
So I read you are running a Mid 2010 MBP. In that case you would need to use the second Original System Disc to reinstall the iLife Applications.
That may be a problem for you as the iLife apps that came with that system are 3 years old and may not want to install on Mt Lion 10.8.3.
If you run into problems installing them from that second system disc you may have to start off by first reinstalling Snow Leopard and then the iLife Apps and Then Upgrade to Mt Lion. Making sure after installing Snow Leopard and the iLife Apps you update everything through Software Update before you do the Mt Lion upgrade.
Sorry about the hassle but blame Apple for that.
Hopefully you have the Original system discs but if you don't then you can order a replacement set from Apple for a small charge.
Good Luck & Best Wishes.

• How do I use my original iphone as a music player?

I've upgraded my iphones through the years, but I always kept my first one. It's an 8GB original iphone, and I'd like to give it to my 12 year old to use as a music player with itunes. I tried connecting it to my current itunes (11.0.3.42), and it doesn't even recognize a device is connected. It just displays the icon of a USB connector and an arrow pointing to an itunes icon.
Do I need to install an old version itunes to make it work? Where do I find links to old itunes downloads?
Is there anything else I need to do to make it work?
Has anyone else done this recently? Thanks for any help.

I'm not sure what you've tried already, but have you considered reset, restore or both? I had recently done this to my iPhone-1st Gen for a different reason. After the restore, make sure to give the iPhone-1 a separate name from your main mobile device.
The new name is only so you can recognize the different sync settings and playlists on the older device. iTunes software can tell the difference wheter you rename or not. Just make sure that you always use the correct backup when you sync, reset or restore.
How to Reset
Two Button Reset.
This is the least likely to result in loss of data. Read that again, especially the phrase "least likley."
Disconnect the iDevice from the computer.
Press and hold both the home and the sleep/wake buttons (ignore the red slider) until you see the silver Apple logo.
When you see the logo, let both buttons go.
If this worked, you should see an icon instructing you to connect to iTunes. My guess is that the reset did not work.
How to Restore
DFU Restore
This will very likley result in loss of data.
Connect the iDevice to the computer.
Ensure that it is running the latest version of iTunes and that it has access to the internet.
Press and hold both the home and sleep/wake buttons for exactly eight seconds.
Release only the sleep/wake button but continue to hold the home button for another five seconds.
Let go of the home button, then look at the computer screen for an instructional popup.
The popup should say "iTunes has detected a device in recovery mode. . .(etc)" Click accept to all boxes and let iTunes download and install all of the latest device Firmware and Software.
If no popup appears, repeat the above DFU instructions. If you've never done a DFU, it may take about three attempts to get the timing right.

• How do i go back to my original iphone if i restored it from a backup?i

I just downloaded the new itunes 10. I plugged in my iphone and began to set it up. When i got the the page set up your iphone i clicked on restore from the backup "My Iphone" last updated 1.26.11. SO LONG AGO. What I want here is to set it up as a new iphone but now I have my old one back with stuff on there from last year and its annoying me hardcore. Is there anyway I can go back to my original Iphone or is that lost?
http:/http://cellphones.about.com/od/howtoguides/ss/how_to_set_up_new_iphone_5.h tm
if you click this link you can go to step 5 and see where i screwed up.
Can anyone help me out here?
HOW DO I GO BACK IF I RESTORE FROM OLD IPHONE?

Can you attach a screenshot and maybe post a link?
Use a compressed image type like PNG or JPG to save the screenshot and make sure that you do not exceed the maximum file size (1 MB).
Reset the page zoom on pages that cause problems.
*View > Zoom > Reset (Ctrl+0 (zero); Cmd+0 on Mac)
If you have increased the minimum font size then try the default setting "none" as a (too) high value can cause issues.
*Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Advanced > Minimum Font Size (none)
Make sure that you allow websites to choose their fonts.
*Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Advanced > [X] "Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of my selections above"
It is better not to increase the minimum font size, but use an extension to set the default page zoom to prevent issues with overlapping text.
