How to work Genius Mixes?

Dear Apple Support People,
How do I work the Genius MIxes thing on iTunes? Help! Please help as soon as possible. I need the music to keep me up on my trian rides so I don't miss my stop. If you could back to me as soon as possible that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

When you sync genius playlists, you access them from the genius symbol which appears to the left of the playlists symbol in the iPod App's "dock".
From http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2978: "Genius mixes cannot be synced to your device manually. To sync Genius Mixes to your device, select the device in iTunes, click the Music tab, and select the Genius Mixes you wish to sync in the Playlists section."

I upgraded to the newest firmware and i'm loving the new way to sort applications. but can't figure out how to sync the genius mixes created in my library. basically i'm looking for a different way to fill my tiny 8GB (really 7GB) ipod touch rather than make playlists.

  • How to control Genius Mixes???

Genius Mix created 6 different Christmas playlists for me. Um.. NOT what I would listen to on a daily basis.
Does anyone know how to specify the genre of the Genius Mixes generated by iTunes? Even based on a song or artist? Great idea, but it's not so intuitive (yet?)...

I was getting some weird behavior too. So, I went into each of my genres and added that genre to the grouping. Now, I don't know what the grouping is used for but when I turned off my genius and turned it back on, it seem to group most things better. The only problem I have is that when it compiled a Christmas mix it added some of Madonna to it, and a Soundtrack mix that has Christmas albums. So, I am still confused on how to better control the outcome.

  • How to configure Genius Mixes?

Plain and simple I was wondering if there was any way to tweak my Genius Mixes. I have a huge variety of music but it only seems to make a few (very strange) mixes that only cover very specific music. Ska music with Hardcore Punk? What? An "Old School Rap" mix with albums from 2012? What? Any help would be appreciated.

B-rock, the article you provided a link to had the following sentence:
Genius Mixes can only be synced automatically, so you won't be able to add Genius Mixes to your device if "Sync only checked songs and videos" is checked in the iTunes Summary pane. (emphasis added my me)
I have around 7-8 thousand songs in iTunes, and a 6th gen nano that will hold around half of that, so I sync only checked songs. That said, I have 11 Genius Mixes. Is that an error in the article?

  • How to play genius mix through roku 2?

I have an ipod touch and a Roku 2xs that I have connected to a stereo. The Roku shows playlists I have made but does not show the genius playlists. How can I have the Roku recognize the genius playlists?

You could do this in more than one way. If you have a split keyboard, then both parts of the keyboard could be set to a different MIDI number. This makes it easy to assign one part to the organ & the other to the strings.
If you work without a split keyboard, you could set up some transformers to filter the incoming note pitches. e.g. transformer A would select notes below a given pitch and remove all other pitches. Transformer B would select notes above a given pitch & also remove all other pitches.
One possible cable layout for this:
a new instrument [dummy, for routing & selection purposes only]
from Click & Ports window, make a connection to this new instrument
    connect instrument to transformer A
    connect instrument to transformer B
set up conditions in both transformers; make sure that they are set to 'Apply operation filter non-matching events'
connect each transformer to its synth fader.
You should be able to click on the new instrument in the Arrange window and play on both the string & the organ without having to select them individually.

  • How to make genius mix an actual playlist ...

...that I can put onto my Nano?

Depending on your issue, making an appoint will be offered as an option by choosing "Take in for Service" (see http://www.macrumors.com/2014/11/07/apple-genius-bar-online/).  Of course, you could also just try calling your local Apple store.

  • No genius mixes in iTunes Match

    Hi,
I upgraded my ATV2 with the latest 5.1 version. Now, when I select Music->Genius Mixes it says that there a no genius mixes in my iTunes library. However, in iTunes they show up fine.
Does anyone know how to get Genius Mixes enabled on the ATV with iTunes Match?
    Thanks!

This is what I did and it fixed my three that didn't have working iMatch Genius:
( I don't know what if any fixed this )
I turned off iMatch on only one iPhone, my 5s, I left the 4s and iPad alone.
    I turned it back on.
    Still no iMatch Genious
I clicked on update iMatch on my 15" Macbook Pro.
    Waited
I then made sure iMatch was "on" on all devices.
I opened up iTunes and then Clicked on Genious just to open without clicking on any mix.
I left the phone on, (practised the piano) and came back to it 30 mins later.
I then had iMatch's Genious working.
I did the same, basically to the 4s and the iPad:
opened up iTunes and then Genious, with clicking on any mix and waited (more piano practice)
Now I have iMatch's Genious Mix working on all of the devices that didn't work before.
Did anything I did have anything to do with solving the issue? I have no idea.
But my iTunes on my 15" Macbook, my new one, locks up right away but no locking up on anything else except my ofther Macbook Pro, the 17"er.

  • How do I get new Genius Mixes?

I click Genius Mixes and it's always the same old mixes. How do I create/get new Genius Mixes?

You need to update your genius and you'll get the mix with your new genius results. If it isn't updating there may be an issue with your library that's stopping the error - either 4002 or 4010 errors. I would turn genius on an off in the "Store" menu then update genius. If that doesn't work (it didn't for me) here's what I did to get it working:
Turns out there was an overriding issue with dead tracks for me.
    - Turn Genius off - this will delete the genius results.
    - Download the iTunes script Super Remove Dead Tracks http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/ss.php?sp=removedeadsuper
    - Install and run according to directions
    - Turn genius on
Hopefully this fixes the issues and you'll get genius mixes when it stops updating.

  • ITunes genius mix doesn't work properly

    Hi everybody,
On my late 2006 iMac with iTunes10 Genius Mix doesn't work properly.
After having activated Genius iTunes generates a number of mixes with different music styles.
When I scroll over the squares the play sign shows up, but only work for 1 of the 9 mixes when I click the play sign.
Clicking on the other play signs in the other squares does not do anything.
Does anybody know what is wrong here?
    Thanks!
    PT

I now know what is causing the problem, at least for the singer in question, but I don't know how to overcome it. I now know that the problem started when I downloaded an MP3 album from Amazon. This album contains 25 songs sung by 25 singers, INCLUDING Annette Hanshaw,THE SINGER I'M INTERESTED IN AT THE MOMENT. So, when I do an iTunes' search for Annette Hanshaw, I get her, but I also get all the other singers on this album. This puzzles me. I've downloaded many entire albums, but I've never run into the unwanted linkages before. In other words, I want to keep all of the songs in the album I just downloded, but I only want Annette Hanshaw when I put her name in the SEARCH bar. Is there a way to do this?
Are all the songs in all Amazon MP3 albums linked together in this way?

I cannot get the genius mixes on my laptop to match those on my ipod touch no matter how many time I sync.
I'd love to be able to update the genius mixes on my ipod as they are quite old now.
Any idea what I am doing wrong?
    All advice is appreciated !!
    Thanks,

Is the setting to prevent deletion of the copy on the comcast server: preferences, accounts, and then uncheck "remove copy from server after receiving message"??
    That should work.
You'd just have to forward the messages manually, one by one, as far as I know (there may be a way to script it but I'm not too keen on AppleScript).

  • How do I turn on Genius Mixes?

  • How do you get an Ipod Classic to make Genius mixes using the songs you want?

My Ipod Classic is now about four years old. it's the grey, 160gb model. the hard drive doesn't click, so it's in stable, working condition, as far as I can tell, but lately, I've been having a few problems with it. first and foremost, it's stubbornly refusing to make Genius Playlists for me, using the songs I want. Secondly, it's not playing some songs. now, the second issue isn't new, and I've fixed it before, but that brings me to my third issue.
when opening Klondikes (because that's the only game I play on my ipod out of the three that come with it) the other day, it gave me an error message stating "game cannot be opened because ipod is full" or something like that. I have 160 gigabytes of storage, and all I have on there is music.
anyway, back to the Genius problem.
So I'll tell the Ipod to make a new Genius Mix from a selected song. in this case, I'll use Alestorm's "Keelhauled" for example. I made an edit of the song, decreasing the tempo, and drawing out the length of the song to 4:20. every single time, the ipod will use that instead of the original.
Say I use "I See Fire" by Ed Sheeran (from The Hobbit, of course). the ipod uses the Kygo Remix I have.
Say I use "One Eight Zero" by Grendel. it uses the remix.
Say I use "The Sunk'n Norwegian", by Alestorm. the Ipod uses the Acoustic version.
Say I use "7 Days to the wolves", by Nightwish. it actually uses that song, and not the Instrumental version.
for "Whispers In The Dark", by Skillet, it doesn't use it, or the Instrumental version cause it can't find a match. (not a problem, just extraneous information.)
Say I use "We Can Make The World Stop" by The Glitch Mob. it uses a piano cover.
the trend I'm noticing here is that it only applies to songs with remixes. but as I have 1408 songs on my ipod, and need to be at work in an hour, I'm not going to look through everything to find every single instance of this.
the ID3 tags for these songs are correct.
Now, this is likely just a tagging issue, but the software should treat them as different songs. after all, most of them are stored in completely different blocks of memory. most of these are even different genres than the originals. and in the case of Keelhauled, because I exported the remix from Garageband, I'm listed as the Artist.
can someone please explain to me what's going on with my ipod, or give me some insight into what's going on under the hood?

A "classic" iPod is really a hard drive with a media player tacked on.  Like any hard drive (including your computer's), it can develop data corruption.  For example, maybe you mistakenly or accidentally disconnected it from the computer while it was syncing.  Or you dropped it, while the iPod was trying to access its drive for song data.  Or the hard drive can be getting worn out and unreliable.
The Restore will not fix the problem if the hard drive is becoming faulty.  But if the data corruption was caused by something else, the Restore should fix it by erasing the hard drive to give it a "fresh start," like reformatting your computer's drive and reinstalling the OS.

  • How can I make a new genius mix? Apple has made two automatically, but I would like one based on other genres within my iTunes library. I have tried updating my genius mixes to no avail.

How can I make a new genius mix? I do not want to make a genius playlist. Genius has already created two mixes but I would like another based on other genres within my extensive music library. I have tried updating Genius from Store>Update Genius but to no avail. Thank you!

Hi. The two user tips both describe a sequence of steps that should get your library from the point where it threatens to wipe data from your device to where it is syncing normally, while recovering as much information as possible. It may still be necessary to wipe and reload the device but this should only take place once all the data that can be recovered has been recovered.
Doing step 1 of 8 and then complaining things aren't the way you want them to be yet strikes me as premature...
Since you appear to have all your media content, and we are discussing an iPod classic, not an iOS device, the main worries are already taken care of. What's left is ratings, playcounts, playlist membership and checked status. Since your device holds only part of your library at best you could only recover the missing data for the content that is on the device using third party tools.
Recreating the previous checked/unchecked status of every track in your library from where you are now may not be that easy. Syncing with selected playlists has many advantages, one of which would have been that you would have a named playlist that could have been retrieved by 3rd party software if you had used this method.
You haven't explained what caused your problem in the first place, but if you have a Previous iTunes Libraries folder holding old copies of your iTunes database (generated with each iTunes update) then it would be possible to restore the most recent of these and then update the library with any changes in your media folder.
BTW Apple doesn't offer free support for this kind of issue with iTunes.
