How to work with Logic Express 8 and Garageband 11 v.6.0.4?

I just installed Logic Express 8 and I don't know what it's done to my existing Garageband files - they seem to have been overwritten into Logic folders. I don't seem to be able to open them in either program. I'm sure there are answers buried in the files here, but I'd appreciate a quick How To, please! Can't work.

You need more to be sure the Digidesign core audio drivers are installed for your MBox, which are separate from the firmware upgrade.

While I'm glad to hear you're using Logic, your iMac should have no problem running ProTools LE. The current version, 7.3, has universal binary support for the new intel Macs .... dependign on the version you have, though, you may need to pay a small amount to upgrade to 7.3 The updaters for 7.3 also include the core audio driver package I mentioned above, and the ProTools LE 7.3 updaters can be found at:

The M-audio techs were unable to tell me if Quattro would work with LE8, so I've been wasting my time and money trying to make it work.
They also gave me conflicting opinions as to whether or not "tip" polarity was an issue when using an after-market adapter. One said definitely yes, one or two others said definitely no.
Their phone tech line has a 20 to 40 minute wait when I call. The online support system is confusing, which even they admit. I don't think my next interface will be from M-audio.

I have just spoken to two supervisors and 4 underlings about this exact concern and they ABSOLUTELY REFUSE TO BUDGE in regard to a sidegrade or smaller upgrade fee. I have been a loyal Mac user, ****, an EVANGELIST since 1990, spent well over 100 grand on the apple products I needed and I tried being super polite, explained that I had barely had a chance to learn a thing about Express since I bought it in the store after realizing that there was no way I could afford the Logic Pro 9 box sitting next to it.

How can I get an old Casio CTK-593 to work with Logic Express?

Title pretty much says it all.
I have a Fast Track USB from M-Audio to connect it to my pc but I don't know how to get it working with Logic.

Did you check your connection with the audio-midi-setup.app in the programs/utilities folder of your MAC (not "pc" pls)?
If you have a working MIDI connection, you'll need to open up a software instrument track within Logic to play Logic's instruments via your keyboard.

Help Required Please with Logic Express and Yamaha O1X

Hi, I'm a new Logic and Mac user. I have just installed Logic Express and I am trying to get my Yamaha O1X mixer/ interface to work. I have the MLAN Tools installed and I can load a demo song into Logic. The meters on my Mixer are moving, I just cannot hear any sound. Doesanyone know the correct way to set this up to work correctly??
I Mac 20" Mac OS X (10.4.9) Intel Dual Core 2.46 Ghz with 2GB Ram

Answer these questions for me:
Is the Monitor A/B switch green or off?
Do you have the faders 1/2 raised on the 01X in the INST tab, and is the Stereo fader raised?
Where is your amp/speakers connected to on the O1X?
Should be connected to monitor L/R out with the A/B switch off (not green).
If you load the logic demo are the meters moving?
Is Logic selected as your DAW on the O1X utility tab?
In your AMS settings....MLAN should be selected for the inputs and outputs
Make sure you did This!!!!
To monitor your computer's audio outs via the 01X go to the surface of the 01X. In the upper right click INTERNAL MODE (2nd button from left, top of the 01x next to REMOTE).
Go to the right of the 01x there are 5 white buttons for
AUDIO/INST/MIDI/BUS/AUX/OTHER. Choose INST - bring up the faders on Channels 1 and 2. Pan them left and right by clicking PAN (one the surface of the 01X in the PAGE area once, then using the knobs beneath the green screen mLAN 1 and mLAN 2 and spinning the knobs left and right), and control your master volume with the master fader. Use the headphone volume to adjust output level.
Very important......if you did all of this, play a song from itunes see if there is audio if not you have something connected wrong.
If you get it from itunes and not logic....then we need to look at logic!
You need to run logics setup assitant and make sure in the controller setup the O1X is showing! Click rebuild defaults in the controller tab of logic....you should see the faders move!

I have been using an M-AUDIO usb interface for garageband for the last year,i recently installed logic express 8 and i just can't get any sound whilst trying to record,logic displays a signal in the channel strip but no sound comes from my monitors,only when i plug the ear phones into the interface can i hear what i'm recording.I've tried every trouble shooting option in my apple pro training book like monitoring and audio preferences.I've contacted M-AUDIO but they just put me on hold as if there really busy!!!
in the end M-audio emailed me and blamed logic,they told me to contact apple,W@**ERS!!
I'm new to this apple discussions business and hope someone can help!!

Welcome to the wonderful world of M-Audio!!! Now, what you are doing is perfectly NORMAL. You need to hook up speakers to your audio interface. Where the little diagram says so:

See? The reason this is so, is because when you are using this interface, you are BOTH using the inputs AND outputs. Logic always works like this, it is a requirement to use "a full-duplex sound card" which means a sound card that has inputs and outputs.

Is macmini enough for a musician that works with logic pro and 10 plugin softsynth at the same time?

I use to work with a music platform like garageband or logic pro and at the same time I am working with a lot of plugin software like toontrack, ik multimedia, musiclab, native instruments etc. On my PC which has the same specification as macmini i7 2.3GHz this was a big problem especially when I was selecting effects like reverb, chorus or compressor so I had to export tracks all the time. What is the minimum specs that I should have to work without any problem? Any help will be appreciated.

For what you want the Mac, the Mac mini is OK. It has got a quad-core processor that will give you the performance you need and 4 GB of RAM that you can extend to 16 GB, apart from a removable hard drive.
The problem is the GPU, but as the applications you are going to use don't require the best GPU, it will work properly. If you want the Mac mini, go for it. An iMac may give you better performance, but the Mac mini is correct.
If you buy it from Apple, you have 14 days to return the Mac mini if it doesn't work correctly with the apps you need

How netflow works with ASA Firepower and Virtual Defense ?

In the discovery rules of the Virtual Defense, i can see that's it's possible to configure netflow source. I have a pair of Cisco 4500X as the core switch L3, and would like to send a flow to the IPS.
I configure the switch like that :

SOLUTION!
Install a second NIC bind vmnet0 to eth1 instead of eth0
Details:
Goal was to have the Host OS (Ubuntu 8.04) which is running an Apache web server also serve as an e-mail gateway (SpamTitan) since on a heavy day the web server might hit 5% CPU.
Why but a whole new machine, right?
When it did not work right away I went into troubleshooting mode and tried several different things as mentioned above. Which led me to the idea to create my own VM of SpamTitan and bind it to a different NIC.
Before I went that far I tried reassigning vmnet0 from eth0 to my newly installed eth1 and running it. That seems to have done the trick!
So now the setup is:
eth0 192.168.2.4
eth1 192.168.2.5
vmnet0 192.168.2.6
With vmnet0 bridged to eth1
Why is it working now and not before?
I am unsure. It is not a Linux thing because I tried both Windows XP and OS X 10.5 with the same result. I think it has more to do with primary network and associated services than Host OS.
If anyone has any insight please let me know. Otherwise I am going to chase it down later.

Old USB Quattro interface--will it work with Logic Express 8?

I have an old m-audio USB Quattro interface (4in/out) which I used with Cubase years ago. I have it hooked up to my wife's intel iMac with more than enough RAM. Logic seems to run fine, but I get a very weak signal through the interface. Apparently I have the correct driver. I don't mind buying a new interface if this one is not going to work, but the hard part may be in determining whether or not it will work. M-Audio doesn't seem to know (I'm less than thrilled with their support). Any experience or thoughts on this?

Groove Agent 2, can it work with Logic Express 8?

I have Logic Express 8, and Steinberg Groove Agent 2. I was able to install it, but when I open Logic Express 8, Groove Agent 2 is not in my list of instruments.
When I installed Groove Agent 2, it did not ask me for my activation code, which I thought was strange.
Groove Agent 2 is an AU.
I have a White MacBook, 2.1 Intel, 4gigs RAM, and Leopard 10.5.8

I used to use GA2 on my PC (before I became a Mac user). Once I bought my Mac I got rid of my PC.
But the disc I have for GA2 has both the PC and Mac version on it, so it was working on my PC, but not on my Mac.
When I try to start it use it as a standalone on my Mac, it starts to load, then a message window appears and says: "No protection device is connected".
I never had this problem when I used to use it on my PC.

I have a desktop for my normal use of Adobe Creative Cloud for Photoshop and Lightroom. I have my lightroom catalog on a separate external drive. I just got Surface pro 3 to do Adobe on it. I am now confused on how to work on Surface and how to access my Lightroom catalog.

Just install Lightroom on your Surface Pro, plug-in the external drive, and double-click the LR catalog file.

Getting Apple Loops to work with Logic Express 7.01

i have logic express 7.0.1 and loads of apple loops. Cant get them to appear in the loop browser in Logic express. Can anybody please help?
