How to write a data type into an excel file?

Hi everyone,
What I am trying to do is to get some data from MS SQL then write into an excel file.
stmtExcel.executeUpdate("Insert into [Output$] (CustomerID, ProductID, [Date], OrderQty) Values(" + rsSQL.getInt("CustomerID") + ", " + rsSQL.getInt("ProductID") + ", '" + (rsSQL.getString("Date")).substring(0,10) + "', " + rsSQL.getInt("OrderQty") + ")");
There is no problem to write into an excel file, however, after all data is imported, excel sheet treats the the integers or dates as Text format. The funny part is, after I double click one of the cells with an integer value, that cell's format will be changed to integer, same thing happens with the date type.
I am wondering if there is any way I can write an integer or whatever type into an excel file, which excel can recognize their own types instead of Text format. Thank you so much in advance.
Sincerely,

Yes, use an API that supports such things, like Andy
Khan's JExcel:

%Thanks, duffymo. I haven't tried it yet, but according to the website, it seems that is possible! thanks again!

  • Writing multiple port data report into single excel file

    I'm working on a STTE automation of an power management unit in which data's from 6 different channels are received from the unit which has to be tested and then verified and co-related with the digital and analog inputs given by the user. So my question is finally how to write all dese six channel's data to a single excel file with multiple work sheets..... Like channel-1 one in sheet1,ch-2 in sheet2 so on.... (these data's from 6 different are received from 6 different serial communication port.)
     pls guide how to forward in the final report generation for abv mentioned requirement in labview

    As nyc mentioned you will have to use ActiveX if you want to do exactly what you discribed but if you're new to LabVIEW that can be a big step.
    In the VI you posted you write your data to xls file but the fact is that you use the write to text file function, so in the end your file is just a simple text file, and of course Excel can open this type of file.
    Maybe you could have your VI to write txt files and then have another bit of code that would transfert the data in each text file to differnt worksheet in a Excel file.
    Or maybe another option would be to write all your data to the same TDMS file (on channel per port) and then use the TDMS Excel Add in to generate an Excel file from the TDMS.
    Feel free to ask more questions :-o

  • How to migrate 'table' data type into oracle solution?

    Say, I have following sample code in Sql Server:
    Declare @v1 table(old_value int, new_value int)
    insert into @v1 select old_value, new_value from aTable where....
    declare cur cursor for
    select new_value from @v1 where old_value=...
    what should I use in oracle to convert above code? I was thinking about nested table, but it seems not very suitable here. Any better solutions out there?

    It's been a while since I've done any SQL Server development, but if I recall correctly, a table data type in Transact SQL is used for storing temporary result sets.
    In your example, you seem to be temporaily storing the results of a query in a Transact SQL table, and then opening a cursor to iterate over the results.
    In Oracle PL/SQL, there is usually no need to do this, just open a cursor:
    create or replace procedure test_proc as
    begin
    for curs_rec in (select old_value, new_value from myTable) loop
    ... process each row ...
    end loop;
    end test_proc;
    If you really want your results in an array which your code can iterate over, look into the BULK COLLECT clause of the SELECT statement:
    create or replace procedure test_proc as
    TYPE array_type IS TABLE of myTable%ROWTYPE INDEX BY BINARY_INTEGER;
    my_array array_type;
    begin
    SELECT * BULK COLLECT INTO my_array FROM myTable;
    for idx in my_array.FIRST..my_array.LAST loop
    dbms_output.put_line(my_array(idx).col1);
    end loop;
    end test_proc;
    Note that I have not actually compiled the above code, so there may be syntax errors :)
    Also, prior to 9i you can not BULK COLLECT into a table based on a rowtype (you need to created an array for each attribute).
    SQL Server also allows function which return table types. This is similar to PL/SQL pipelined table functions (available in 9i and higher - see the PL/SQL guide), which can be used to materialize rows which can be processed like any other result set.
    SQL Server also has a concept of temporary tables which is totally different than Oracle's temporary tables. SQL Server developers must often resort to using temporary tables in their stored procedures; in Oracle, this is rarely necessary.

  • How to set the Data types of the Excel sheet while exporting details to it.

    Hi All,
    We are trying to export some order details to the excel sheet from a jsp. It is working fine when the local system language is set to English.
    But when i change it to Russian. the details like Line Numbers(e.g: 1.1, 1.2, 1.3 and so on... ) are getting changed into some other data type(e.g: 01.янв, 02.янв, 03.янв and so on....).
    i guess this is mainly due to some data type mismatch, so i tried setting all the possible charset for response in the jsp, but could not succeeded.
    This is only for the details which or of decimal format, working fine for the details which are in String type. like Description, Item name etc...
    As it is high preference issue for our client, Please help me in this regard ASAP.

    How to write the data into EEPROM using Labview?

    You would need some sort of EEPROM programmer. Typically might
    communicate with it via serial. I don't know how you would do this in
    LV. You would need to have the command protocol for the programming

  • How do you save data into an excel file while myRIO is acquiring data? I tried saving it using "Write to file" but it doesn't work for some reason.

    I am acquiring cosine wave and a pulse wave as input and I want to store their peak to peak values into an excel file. "Write to File" is not working for it. Is there any other vi which can be used for data logging?
    Thank you for your help.

    Hi Ssheoran,
    Can you provide more detail when you say that the Write to File VI doesn't work? Is there an error given? Or can you just not find the file on your computer? Keep in mind using this file in a Real-Time VI on the myRIO will save files on the myRIO. You will then have to transfer to your PC. Please view the following video as a guide for saving files and transferring them to your computer: (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BuREWnD6Eno). Hope this helps.

  • How to save data into an excel file ?

    The attached zip file contains several VI's to read and write directly to Excel using ActiveX. There are several example VI showing how to use everything. This set is saved in LabVIEW 6.0.2.
    I suggest you unzip these to your user.lib directory so you'll be able to easily access them from the functions palette.
    I have not actually used these, but others that have say they have worked well for them.

    Using the Abort button to stop your VI is like using a tree to stop your car. It works, but there may be consequences.

    hi,
    you can use get_item_property built-in
    eg:
    declare
       l_item VARCHAR2(10);
    begin
       l_item := Get_Item_Property('item_name',DATATYPE);
    end;

  • How to get the data type of a variable

    Hi
    I'm new to java and I'd like to put some variables with different data type into the HashMap. But when I'm going to get the value
    of the variable I want to know its data type (int,String,long,float etc.) before I do some processing.
    here's my sample code:
    //start...
    Map m = new HashMap();
    String s1 = "String1";
    String s2 = "String2";
    int i1 = 5;
    int i2 = 10;
    m.put(1,s1);
    m.put(2,i1);
    m.put(3,12);
    m.put(4,s2);
    //end...
    when I'm going to retrieve the variable, I'd like to assign it to another variable with the same data type. but the problem is, before
    I assign it I must know its data type so that I could not have an error.
    thanks in advance

    I don't think you will be able to put primitives (ints, floats, etc) in, without wrapping 'em first (java.lang.Integer, java.lang.Float...).
    You can get the type with
    Object biggles;
    // Get biggles
    if( biggles instanceof String )
       System.out.println( "Biggles is a string, yeah biggles" );or with refection
    Class bigglesClass = biggles.getClass();
    System.out.println( "Biggles is of type: " + bigglesClass.getName() );

  • How to add TIMESTAMP data type in  Enterprise Architect...?

    Hi all
    There is no data type of timestamp in Enterprise Architech. There is only
    DATE type. I have ERD prepared from Enterprise Architech. How to modify
    DATE type to TIMESTAMP type.
    How to add TIMESTAMP data type in Enterprise Architect or in ERD ?
    Thanks in advance,
    Pal

    Have you asked this question of the vendor of Enterprise Architect? They may have a later version that supports the various TIMESTAMP data types. If your ERD tool doesn't support a data type, other than talking to the vendor or working around the problem (i.e. generate DDL to a text file and edit it before applying it to the database), you're probably out of luck.
