How trust worthy are the dip switch OC for the NF980-G65

Love the idea of just flipping a switch to OC, especially for someone like me that lacks experience over clocking. Just don't know how trust worthy it is to do it this way. I did try the first level setting at 10 percent. Jumped my processor from 3.2 to 3.5 very effortlessly. Also automatically boosted my RAM. I was messing with RAM timing in the BIOS around the same time and when I restarted my computer the video wouldn't display. Had to reset the CMOS and set the dip switches back to default to get everything working again. Now I'm afraid to try them again.
Anyone else have any success using the dip switch OC method?

HI.  I have a 785gm-e65 board wht switches. I have tried all settings, but 20 % got me the blue screen right off.
I am at 15% 3.68gz. The front side bus is at 230 and the cpu multiplier at 16x. all settings did one step on the
memory speed, i did not try to change anything. I run flight simnlator FSX and it has 3 cores at 100% and am stable.
gonna leave it this way for now.  Klop :smiley:

    Yosemite mail v8.0 not showing how many messages are in a mailbox. For example inbox. Before upgrading it used to show how many messages you had in your inbox. anyone know how to switch "on" the number of messages? Or has this feature been removed?

    Agreed! This feature was very useful. If you find out how to turn it on, please let me know.
    Apple, there is plenty of room in the window header all the way across on both sides of the word "Inbox". It's important to know many messages are in the Inbox. It provides a progress meter when you're cleaning out mail and striving for inbox zero.

  • How much fast are the new iMac's?

    I've been looking at upgrading my G5 PowerMac for a while and now Apple has just updated the iMac. How much faster are the new models over the just superseded ones and my G5 (spec below).
    I mainly us it for my work with Photoshop CS2 and the G5 does a great job most of the time but is showing it's age. I was looking at the 2nd model but for not much more you can get the 27inch screen with better upgrade options.

    Hi Craig,
    even the very first 2006 released Intel iMacs were faster than the G5 iMacs including yours.
    See this Barefeats test http://www.barefeats.com/imcd3.html
    Check additional tests on Barefeats on older iMacs against newer ones http://www.barefeats.com/
    The new 2010 iMacs of any sort run circles around the 2006 iMacs, so you are in for a very pleasant surprise

  • Does the NF980-G65 support RAID arrays over 2TB?

    Looking to build a new machine fro Windows 7 (and switch to 64bit at the same time), and the NF980-G65 seems to be the closest board to my needs, just a quick question, does the onboard raid controller support raid arrays over 2TB in size? I had a look at the manual and it has a section on migrating an array to a size over 2TB which would suggest it does, but I would like some confirmation as to whether it does or not.

    I've run into this problem with some raid cards when building servers for work, as they were unable to address raid arrays over 2TB and would not allow the creation of the array, I am wondering if the raid controller has the right level of LBA to create a 2TB+ array. I am aware of the need to use a GPT partition to have a partition of over 2TB.

    I'm thinking of buying protection for the sides (also for the damned antenna issue)..is it worth it? How scratchable are the sides? Or should I just use strips to get rid of the antenna issue and not worry about side protection?

    ive bumped it a few times. no scratches that i know of (and trust me, Ive been checking)

  • Does the NF980-G65 support the newest AMD Phenom II X6 1100T Thuban 3.3G

    According to the CPU support list...
    http://www.msi.com/product/mb/NF980-G65.html#/?div=CPUSupport
    ...it stops at 1090T.
    Is that list up to date?
    Thanks

     It should run just fine with that CPU if you have the latest BIOS. Others have said it"s OK.

  • How much faster are the Quad-Core Macpros?

    Does anyone have any idea how much quicker a Two 3.0GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon will encode video in FCP, Compressor, and DVD SP, vs. a Two 3.0GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon?
    Thanks.

    in some areas motion in particular or exporting mpeg2 from fcp timeline, is slower on this 8 core than on the older dual2gig PPC. this machine has the Nvidea quadro FX4500 which one would hope is faster using motion but doesn't seem to be. that being said compressor rocks using temp Qmaster 4 instance like making 2 pass mpeg2 from a movie file, 90 min movie compressed in 40 min. photoshop and after effects rocks due to multiprocessor use and rendered timeline stuff though not always clean is much faster. having to render more than once and having to watch top to bottom from a QT export out of FCP ***** somedays. Over all it's worth it in my busy every day world

  • How fast/powerful are the brand new 8 core Mpros 3 GHZ

    can you compare them to the QUAD 2.5?
    any one who has one could you give me some opinions
    is it worth the buy or will waiting prove more satisfactory

    Hi,
    If you are compressing video the new Mac Pro is amazingly fast compared to the PowerMac G5 Quad. When compressing H.264 with Handbrake the Mac Pro 2.8 GHz is able to compress 139.85 frames per second. The PowerMac G5 Quad provides 29.92 frames per second in this same AMUG test.
    Scroll down to the energy section of the Mac Pro review for additional details.
    http://www.amug.org/amug-web/html/amug/reviews/articles/intel/macpro-2008/
    If all you are doing is web browsing and email it will be hard to tell the difference between these two computers. However, once you need CPU power for compressing video, the new 2008 Mac Pro will blow the Quad away.
    Have a fun!

  • How to auto fade or dip to black for many or all clips?

    I'm working on credits, 50+, and page down is getting old fast. I would love to just select all and apply a dip or fade, any suggestions?

    Select all clips, then go to Sequence > Apply Default Transitions to Selection. This assumes you've set your default transition and transition duration.
    Can't remember if this is default (I think so), but the keyboard shortcut is Ctrl+Alt+Shift+D.

    GOD its nice to have my 3000 dollor machine working again!
    The BIOS seems to be stable and my rig is running good, but i have already found a qwerk!
    i turned off coolnquiet, and turned off turbo core, and i have some strange clockspeeds!
    Core0 = 1600
    Core1 = 1600
    Core2 = 1599
    Core3 = 2400.1
    Core4 = 1600
    Core5 = 3400
    I have the Multiplier in the bios set to 17 which should be 3400 on all cores!
    So either the multiplier setting is screwy, or coolnquiet, or something else....
    The other cores do seem to flip to higher speeds and them back to 1600 at random, not specifically durring any loads....
    But other than that. Everything else seems to work fine?
    How did you get your hands on the beta bios? MSI told me that there was no beta. Do you have any inside info on when the official beta drops

  • How do I check the current number of users connected to the application?

    Hi there,
    I would appreciate that you advise me on how to know how many users are accesing
    an application I've got in production, powered by BEA WebLogic Server 6.1.
    In the Administration console, I go to the specific server, and inside the tab "monitoring",
    then "Performance", I've got some graphics showing the memory usage and throughput.
    But, where do I see the number of actual connection to the application?
    Thanks

    I am pretty sure that WLS doesnt give you the type of monitoring you require. You
    might have to check out one of the third party monitoring partners like Wiley or
    Precise.I guess that depends on how you define 'how many users are accessing' an
    application(s) - for example, 'OpenSessionsCurrentCount' can serve as a rough measure of
    the number of users currently using the web application. or, number of threads + execute
    queue length can give you an idea of current number of user requests executing/waiting
    to be executed at any given time, etc. WebLogic does provide lots of useful monitoring
    information, and the fact that it uses JMX makes obtaining this information very easy.
    Having said that I would like to ask a couple of questions.
    a) what is your app (EAR? EJB's WebApp?)
    b) why do you want to know, meaning as soon as you know how many what is the next
    thing you want to know/see?
    Cheers
