How uninstall WSUS server role from Windows Server 2008 R2 with database hosted on remote SQL server?

Hello,
I'm looking to uninstall the WSUS server role 3.0 from Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1. The thing is the database is hosted on a remote MS SQL server. I want to remove the database as well. I would like help for figuring out what I need to do to completely remove
WSUS and its database.
Any kind of help is appreciated! Thanks

Hi,
WSUS offers limited support for running database software on a computer that is separate from the computer where the rest of WSUS is installed. This section offers step-by-step
instructions for how to install WSUS in this configuration.
If you meet the uninstall issue with the normal uninstall, please post the detail information for us but if you just want to manage the WSUS related SQL data, you can refer
the following KB then delete corresponding database.
In the general procedure, you will create the related WSUS database as below::
Run WSUS Setup from the command line, using the SQLINSTANCE_NAME=servername\instancename command-line option, where servername is the name of the remote computer, and instancename
is the name of the SQL Server instance that you will use for WSUS.

    Event ID 7000:
The Windows Internal Database service failed to start due to the following error:
The service did not start due to a logon failure.
    Event ID 7041
The MSSQL$MICROSOFT##WID service was unable to log on as NT SERVICE\MSSQL$MICROSOFT##WID with the currently configured password due to the following error:
Logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer.
    Service: MSSQL$MICROSOFT##WID

This service account does not have the required user right "Log on as a service."
    User Action
Assign "Log on as a service" to the service account on this computer. You can use Local Security Settings (Secpol.msc) to do this. If this computer is a node in a cluster, check that this user
right is assigned to the Cluster service account on all nodes in the cluster.
If you have already assigned this user right to the service account, and the user right appears to be removed, check with your domain administrator to find out if a Group Policy object associated
with this node might be removing the right.
    I found following article:
"MSSQL$MICROSOFT##WID service was unable to log on as NT SERVICE\MSSQL$MICROSOFT##WID" error when you install WID in Windows Server 2012
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2832204/en-us
To work around the issue, use one of the following methods:
Assign the Log on as a service user right to NT SERVICE\ALL SERVICES in the GPO that defines the user right.
Exclude the computer from the GPO that defines the user right.
We moved the SCCM server to OU where no policies were getting applied and then applied the new GPO to that OU. Restarted the server and we were able to install WSUS role.

  • WSUS server role on Windows Server 2012 R2 - Supported SQL Configurations

    According to
this page the supported SQL configurations for WSUS on Windows Server 2012/2012 R2 stop at SQL Server 2012 SP1, but there is no mention of SQL Server 2012 SP2 being supported.
However, both the SCCM 2012 R2
supported configuration page and this announcement state that SQL Server 2012 SP2 is fully supported on SCCM 2012 R2 with no
known limitations. Bearing in mind a big part of SCCM is to perform software updates which in turn requires WSUS to be installed...
... Is SQL Server 2012 SP2 supported on WSUS 4.0 (aka WSUS server role on Windows Server 2012 R2)?

The only thing that mattered for the versions mentioned on TechNet probably is the date the articles are published. I'm no Microsoft employee so I cannot guarantee you support even if I trace back some Microsoft article that explains the lifecycle of MS
    products and support.
Fact is that MDT uses a database, SQL is a database server. SQL server has all kinds of compatibility modes to support databases dating multiple versions back.
Another fact is that a Service pack is an
update to the software (be it a large one) Microsoft will not break compatibility with their own products (and may others that relay on SQL server) by an update.
And a last fact is that in general, updates are required when you need support. After all, updates fix issues, and engineers generally don't like ghosthunting a bug that has already been patched.

  • How to import tables to target databse from a remote sql server

    Hi,
I have various remote database (SQL Server, Oracle).
I need to replicate those database in staging database and then from that database do a transformation to the datawarehouse database.
I created a source database and staging database in oracle 9i.
Using OWB i created a source module and imported all the metadata information from the remote(SQL) database.
Now i need to import all these stuff to the target database.(just a replica of the remote database in my local machine).
pls let me know how can i import the stuff into the target database without manually creating it.
What i am looking for is some sort of scripts where in i can just run them in the target database.
    OR
is there any other way were i can import the tables and the data into the target module directly?
when i tried to do this i got an error saying its a invalid oracle source?
Does this mean that i cannot import the stuff from SQL Server to OWB target module and then deploy to the database??
pls help me in understanding this?
    TIA
    shankar

In a nutshell, what you should do is:
    1. Import the source database structure into an SQL Server module or an ODBC source module (depending on whether you are using a transparent gateway or ODBC as a connecting mechanism between SQL Server and Oracle),
    2. Define the target database schema structure in an OWB's target module (in your case, since the source and target module are identica, you can just cut ad paste the source objects into the target module).
    3. Define the mappings (processes that extract data from the source and put them into the target) - in your case these will be straightforward, just 1:1 field mappings, since the source and target databases will have the same structure.
    4. Deploy everything to the target database schema - this will create the target schema objects (tables, views etc.) and install the scripts for data transfer that you designed when you defined the mappings.
    5. Finally, you can run the mappings that will transfer the data from SQL Server to Oracle.

    Recommend you
    Remove SUP
    Remove WSUS role
Delete the SUSDB on the remote SQL server
    Reboot the server
    Reinstall WSUS feature
    Reinstall SUP
Take a look at my blog on installing a SUP on 2012 from the section 'Install WSUS on the remote SUP server'

  • How to connect to remote sql server database?

    Hallo,
I am a new member, so please excuse me if my questions are dummy.
I am using CR2008 SP2 to make reports from sql server 2005 databases.
Localy there is no connection problem and everything works perfect.
I would like to establish a connection with a remote sql server 2005,
but i am not familiar with remote data retriving. which driver should i use? static ip? vpn? server ports?
Any answer will be really appreciated

    Hello,
This is more a question for Microsoft to see what and how they support remote connections to databases. As long as you have the connection made CR will not have any problems. You may find it is slow so optimizing your queries is highly recommended. Passing a million records through your web connector is going to take time.....
I've personally used a VPN connection and then set the ODBC or OLE DB connection info to my test server here at work and it worked fine. But they were small data sets.
    Thank you
    Don

How do I share files from Windows Vista to a Mac with Lion OSX?  I'm having SO much trouble with this!  Any help would be appreciated!!!

In a finder window, under 'shared' you should be able to see the windows computer name, click on it and connect to it. I am assuming here you have sharing turned on and permissions granted on the windows computer.
Will add a note though, I have frequently accessed files from a PC on the LAN using XP, not vista.
