How upgrade 10.4.3 to 10.4.8

I have a 1/06 mini - not on the net (tho it could be hooked up I guess) - has 10.4.3 on it.
My wife want to buy Adobe photoshop elements which requires 10.4.8 to 10.5.2.
How do I upgrade the OS from 10.4.3 to at least 10.4.8? can I buy that from apple?

You're Welcome edwardh1!
"... why after upgrading is the puter so very slow when first starting the first time after the upgrade'
I suspect there are thousands of files that have been modified, and the first restart reflects that.
subsequent starts are speedy!
"...is there "a lot of difference" evolution wise between 10.4.8 what I have now- and 10.4.11?"
Review the info here PPC 10.4.11 Combo Update.
"...If I ever wanted to go to 10.5 what do I do- Buy a disc from apple?"
Yes, Mac OS X Versions 10.1, 10.2, 10.3, 10.4, and 10.5, are complete system upgrades that must be purchased.
Once an OS has been installed, the point upgrades, such as 10.1.x to 10.1.5 (Final) 10.2.x to 10.2.8 (Final), 10.3.x to 10.3.9 (Final), 10.4.x to 10.4.11 (Final), and 10.5.x to 10.5.6 (Pending), can be downloaded for free.
If your Mac meets the Leopard System Requirements, the Full Retail Version, of the Leopard Install DVD, can be purchased at The Apple Store (U.S.), Apple retail stores, and Apple resellers.
If you know what to look for, a Full Retail Version, of the Leopard Install DVD, can be purchased, sometimes less expensively, at some online Apple retailers, Amazon, eBay, FastMac, HardCore Mac, AllMac, etc.
Be sure not to purchase grey, upgrade or machine specific CDs or DVDs.
Leopard is on DVD.
The disc should look exactly like the images in the above links, and not say Upgrade, CPU Drop-in DVD, or "This software is part of a hardware bundle purchase - not to be sold seperately." on it.

Caveat Emptor!
If any are presently available, examine these items very carefully, and if in doubt, ask questions of the seller before purchase!
Leopard On eBay
Once Leopard 10.5.x is installed, you can use the Mac OS X 10.5.6 Combo Update, to upgrade to the current version.
You may also find this Leopard Installation and Setup Guide PDF useful.
The posted RAM System Requirement, is the bare minimum.
For optimum performance, more is recommended.
As a precaution, before upgrading the OS, you should create a backup of the entire system, or at least, any data you do not wish to lose or corrupt.
In addition to the Archive & Install procedure, there is also a Simple Upgrade, or an Erase & Install option.
Review the info here About Installation Options.
Specifically; "About Upgrade to Mac OS X
Upgrading to Mac OS X takes a little longer than installing it on a volume without Mac OS X, but it is the least intrusive way to install--most of your existing settings and applications are left untouched during an upgrade. In other words, you won't have to configure a lot of settings afterwards."

  • Lost adobe CS2 discs. How upgrade?

I'm retired & on limited income, thus I'm far behind in Adobe upgrades. I currently use CS2 Suite mostly Indesign, Illustrator, & Photoshop, for a book I'm writing that is currently at about 3500 pages. CS2 meets my needs and don't need to upgrade. However, I also have a hobby of photography and use LR 3.6, but would like to upgrade to LR 4. But to take advantage of LR 4 I need to upgrade my OS. I hate Win 8, but Win 7 Pro I'm told will run my CS2 and LR 4. I've saved up and got LR 4 & Win 7, but need to wipe my hard drive and reinstall the 32 bit disc. Problem: I can't find my CS2 discs! Can I not take the ones in XP download to external HD, then reinstall on Win 7? How does one do this? Or does one just forget the LR4 & Win 7? I can't afford to get another computer or upgrade my CS.

If you upgrade Windows XP to Windows 7, then your applications may still be activated and working.  But CS2 may only run under XP compatibility mode in W7.
I know that Microsoft says that you cannot upgrade Windows XP to 7, but here is an article that describes how to upgrade: http://www.pcworld.com/article/171432/windows_7_upgrade_guide.html
Note that you cannot upgrade a 32-bit OS to a 64-bit OS.

  • How upgrade to higher OS X

I have old mac book OS X wih old version 10.5.8, how can i upgrade with higher version in my computer for Mac OS X 10.6.8 or higher?

You'll first need to buy a copy of Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard. That's still available from the online Apple Store; for the US, see:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
If it's not listed on the web site of the Apple Store in your country, call the online Apple Store, they may still have copies of Snow Leopard available .
If they no longer have it available, you'll need to look to private sellers, and the prices are rising quickly. If you buy from a private seller, make sure you get the retail disk set (white label with a picture of a Snow Leopard), not the system disks from another model of Mac (grey label).
Once you have Snow Leopard installed, then you can consider whether you wish to upgrade to a yet newer version of Mac OS X; 10.7 Lion, 10.8 Mountain Lion, 10.9 Mavericks, as your system will support. Which of those if any your MacBook will run will depend on the specific model you have.
    Regards.
Forum Tip: Since you're new here, you've probably not discovered the Search feature available on every Communities page, but next time, it might save you time (and everyone else from having to answer the same question multiple times) if you search a couple of ways for a topic, both in the relevant forums and in the Apple Knowledge Base, before you post a question.

  • How upgrade os x mountain lion icant"

    how to free upgrade!!!

Clone backups are safest.  See my tip:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3761
All else being equal, multiple users should update without issue.  Of course you have to think about comptability of applications and drivers first.

  • Trying to determine how upgrades will affect performance

I'm very unfamiliar with tech talk, so if someone can please help me out and do their best to explain this in lay terms that would be awesome.
I am currently on the A0 cloud service instance and would like to know whether moving to the A1 cloud service instance would improve the speed performance of our web portal? I assume it would, but are there any metrics to quantify this? i.e. how much faster
    will the system be?
Will any other aspects of the website's performance be improved, and if so, what?
I'm trying to determine whether the upgrade would be worth the added subscription costs (price will go from $20 to $120 per month).
    Thanks!

    Hi,
Moving from A0 VM size instance to A1 VM size will surely improve the speed performance.
But the overall performance depends on many factors like network, website traffic , disk performance.
Along with increasing the size, buying more bandwidth could be a good move as well.

  • Thinkstation S30 how upgrade primary drive to ssd

    First time poster here..
I would like to upgrade my primary sata drive to a Samsung 840 1TB 2.5" ssd and using my old drive as a secondary data drive. I would appreciate if someone can please post a procedure on how to do it particularly setting up the ssd drive as the boot drive for Win 7 pro and which internal ports to use for sata3. Thanks
    My current configuration is:
    S30  Win 7 Pro E5-1650 32GB
    1 2TB SATA HDD
    Nividia Quadro 4000
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

If your intent is to migrate your current image over to the new SSD drive, and then blast away everything on your original drive and retask it as a data drive, it really isn't too difficult.  You'll need to use some imaging software to migrate your current image onto the SSD.  You'll want to connect the SSD to a red AHCI port if you want a SATA3 connection.  Also remember to go into BIOS setup and ensure the SSD is showing in the boot sequence.  Disconnect your old HDD and make sure your image on the SSD boots OK when connected to the red AHCI port.  Once you're confident your new SSD is working correctly, you can reconnect the old drive, exclude it from the boot sequence, and use disk management in windows to blow out the partitions on your old drive and format it for use again.  You can likely run the old drive either on the AHCI ports (red or orange), or the blue SCU ports.  Orange AHCI and blue SCU will be limited to 3Gb/s.  If it's a 6Gb/s drive and you still have a red AHCI port open, go ahead and use that.

  • Ipod nano 1.2 version how upgrade to higher version?

I recently received an ipod nano 1.2 version. iTunes purchased songs load into my ipod but do not play because they need a 1.3 version or higher to play M4P ACC (Protected) songs. How do I update the Ipod Nano application that I have to a higher version (1.3)?

In a link to compatible song formats, it says you need version 1.3 or later to play purchased songs that have an AAC format (protected). We are new to this, so that may be for a different type of iPod than the nano
That software is for the first and second generation regular iPods. All other iPod models come with the necessary firmware to play AAC files. You should be able to sync the purchased music to your iPod; if you can't, try the instructions in this article.

  • How upgrade DELL Precision workstation 490

    Hi!
I wish to upgrade my Dell workstation to be able to use PP 5 with HD footage.
First : as far as I know the mother card has a PCI express slot x16 but not a PCI express 2, will I be able to install a GTX 470
If the answer to first is NO, assuming I, presently have a Nvidia FX 550 will an increase of memory help, if yes up to which size.
    Thanks for your help
    Edgar

Gainward use to be an up and coming player in the West. For some reason they really stopped pushing in the NA market and I never was sure why. They seem to come up with some nice products so I wouldn't shy away from one. The comments on the PCI-E Gen 2 bandwidth is suprising since it is twice the bandwidth of Gen 1 and directly off the North Bridge. This lowers latency and bottlenecks. That might require further research.

Want to upgrade RAC 10.2.0.2 database (2 instances) to 10.2.0.5. DB size is 4 TB. Contains mostly .pdf files, reports. I do not have test/upgrade environment. How much time I can expect it will take?
How much the upgrade process depends of database size, in this case?
    I have fast boxes  IBM AIX 5.3 , 64 b.

    Appreciate your comments ...
Yes, sound stupid, regarding test environment, but in reality, is not that much:
-I do have "preprod" environment, (2 instances RAC) same releases of OS, OCW,RAC ... but DB size is 40 GB!!!  It has all the objects as production, but (again but) it does not have physical standby, as production has. This is not that unusual, knowing that production DB grows very fast, and very large, and business do not want to keep preprod, dev, test databases same HUGE size as production is. Savings ...
-My DB upgrade depends if application  running on top of it is certified for higher RDBMS release ... looks like they have some problems.
-Very encouraging sounds comment that DB upgrade does not depend that much of the DB size ...
    - i do not recall from where this info came, but I have heard that R 11.* treats PDF files in different way that R10 did it ... and because of that, process of upgrading big databases which have many items of that type (pdf) can take very long. Any idea about this?
-Brian, thx ... I'm trying hard to provide DB simmilar size in UPG environment and face all possible pitfalls before I go in production...thx for youe advice. I'm relly interested in how upgrade to 11.* from 10.* traets my pdf-s ... All my TBs comming from pdfs. Everi advice will be wellcome ...

Her customers are gardening and lifestyle magazines who publish her photos regularly as illustrations to various articles. She has a professional Canon EOS 1Ds MK III equipment and shoots exclusively raw. In a shoot around 300 to 1000 images are shot. The Lightroom catalog has around 20,000 images currently.
In Lightroom she uses mostly DAM and some basic development features, images are delivered either as raw of as JPEG images to the clients. Keywording is especially important. She has an extensive hierarchical list of plants most of them multiword keywords with spaces, and lots of other keywords indicating if images were sent to clients and other stuff.
The upgrade went just very well. I exported the catalog to a new intermediate catalog without previews, installed LR3 and imported this intermediate catalog into LR3 generating new previews from scratch. The hardware is modest, and some functional tests (especially switching images in develop, spot tool, and adjustment brushes) revealed that everything performs well enough.
Then she asked me where she would have benefits from using the new version. And then I told the whole benefit story, which can be read everywhere.
    - New process version, better details and noise reduction. She asked where she can see it? Hmm, I switched to 1:1 view changing the process versions, not really much to see on Canon 1Ds Mk III files. Even with noisier files, it was hard to tell, what has actually changed. So only a 4:1 view very tiny changes were visible. The impact on her business? Near to nothing as she does not print large. The differences would hardly be seen in the magazine prints.
    - Lens corrections and perspective control: does not really matter in garden photography, but she could see some occasional usefullness.
    - Publish services: no real need for it
    - Print packages: nope
    - Slightshow improvements: no use for it
    - Performance improvements: nothing visible
    - Effects: completely superfluous
    - New import dialog: at first glance a hindereance, as she has to get used to it
Then she asked: did they correct the keyword handling, when entering keywords witrh spaces? (You know the nasty bug, where keyword completion is broken at keywords with spaces). We checked (I knew it wasn't fixed), and of course she was heavily disappointed. Thus, after 2 years of development nothing new for her, keyword bug not fixed? Of course she said, that I should tell her, when keyword completion works, then and only then would she consider an upgrade.
So, despite all the bells and whistles about the new version, I doubt that for many photographers the benefits are really so overwhelming in the real world. It is a pitty that Adobe continues to neglect the DAM features (some fresh ideas for client management would be great), that existing features aren't consequently implemented (esp. the possibilities to query the catalog, and keywording), and that existing bugs are constantly ignored and not fixed.
So, please Adobe, get keyword completion fixed for keywords with spaces immediately !!! This is what professionals need. A catalog without reliable DAM features, renders the catalog concept to a great extend useless. Please listen!
Disclaimer: As I am not a professional for me the situation is not the same. I just report my experience I had, with a photgrapher, who needs a proper asset management. I recommended Lightroom to her because of the overall package (she moved from Cumulus), so I feel a little obliged to help her in this issue. In my case, as a user of a modest Lumix G camera system, I would consider the IQ benefits more signifcant. I don't know, if this is a general observation.
    Kind regards

So the over-riding conclusion from your experience with just one photographer is that Lightroom is 'useless', and this compels you to demand, in bold type, that Adobe must listen?
That Lightroom has issues and areas for ongoing development is obvious, and Adobe won't dispute this.  But rants like yours add nothing and are unhelpful.  Julie's response is extremely tactful and far more moderate than your post deserves.
    Dear Mr. Webster
I think when you post, you should definitely change your tone. Julie simply answered my original post by acknowledging the problem, your accusation that I did not use appropriate "netiquette" is ridiculous. Posts like yours are a real problem of this forum.
I simply gave a user story example to show that not for everybody the shiny advertised new features provide real benefits and that paying attention to a thorough implementation of features can be equally important. I think Julie has recognized this. And the issue is nothing for ongoing developments. Lightroom supports keywords with spaces, so it has to be done consequently. Keywording is essential for DAM. If keywording gets too tedious or leads to wrong keyword assignments, then DAM is really pointless.
The intention of my post was to point Adobe to an apparently small problem, which has quite a big impact to people, who depend on good DAM features. The issue is nothing new, existed since the first release of Lightroom, but nothing was done about it, unfortunately. Now that Lightroom addressed keywords with spaces even with a new preference setting, it was fair to assume, that they had done something about it with care. This isn't so obviously. The issue was discussed in previous threads, but did not get any visible notice from Adobe. I am glad that this has changed now with Julie's post.
In no way did I say that Lightroom is useless or even that I regard it to be so. I merely said that the catalog concept is to a great extend (not completely) useless, if its implementation is sloppy. DAM starts with data entry and only after doing this, you can use it to your benefit. Therefore it has to be efficient, which currently is not. Lightroom is criticized by a large number of users that it is forcing them into a catalog system instead of just providing access to the file system. Long existing bugs like this, likely proves them right in their view.
The competition (I mean complete workflow solutions) is not really better than Lightroom with respect to DAM features, however, my take is, that the developers should be equally ambitious with the quality of the catalog system as they are with IQ, especially if the achievements in IQ are apparently less relevant to owners of high end camera systems. (I could be wrong with the last statement, but it would be interesting to hear if others have similar observations).
    Kind regards
