How upgrade from os x 10.6.8 if my imac only has 1 GB
I want to upgrade my Imac's operating system to take advantage of ICloud. When I try to download Mountain Lion from the App Store, I receive the message that I cannot do so because I do not have enough memory. My Imac only has 1GB. Have just noticed this in a thread today. The link from Klaus1's post may allow you to use PDF and work on it. I haven't tried it but it may give you some extra ammunition. -
Upgrading from 10.4.11 to 10.5 on imac (intel)
I have an i mac (intel) running 10.4.11, have been trying to load new antivirus software and the files won't open because my system is not running 10.5. Howvere when I ask my system to upgrade it say no upgrades available and the apple site doesn't seem to have an upgrade from 10.4.11 to 10.5. HELP. Regards Peter
Firstly, you do not need any AV software. See:
Helpful Links Regarding Virus Protection
An excellent link to read is Tom Reed's Mac Malware Guide.
Also, visit The XLab FAQs and read Detecting and avoiding malware and spyware.
If you require anti-virus protection I recommend using ClamXav.
If you have an Intel based Mac then you don't want Leopard when you can skip right up to Snow Leopard or higher:
Upgrade Paths to Snow Leopard, Lion, and/or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You must purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
Snow Leopard General Requirements
1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
2. 1GB of memory
3. 5GB of available disk space
4. DVD drive for installation
5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
fees may apply.
6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
terms apply.
Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax. It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
Lion System Requirements
1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
or Xeon processor
2. 2GB of memory
3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
4. 7GB of available space
5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later
5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps.

When lightroom first arrived on the scene, it was in the beta stage and had unlimited free access. I liked it and when Lightroom 2 came out I upgraded from Adobe. That was on my old computer whose hard drive has failed. So now wish to install my Lightroom 2 on my new computer. It asks for the Original serial # which I do not have access to. Since my original version was a beta how can I get a serial # for a version 1.0 ?

I have been a long time user of Photoshop elements/Premier and I just loaded version 13 (from 12) and they have completely changed the functionality of the organizer! OMG!!!!! You can no longer move a picture easily in the albums and you MUST use one of the Adobe preset backgrounds for a slide show. Really??? Generally I like the templates for certain uses but I am creating long movies of travels. I do NOT want your backgrounds, but apparently I have no choice. And I can no longer interface with Premier - then why did you sell them to me as a package?
I am sure I can't get my money back because I did a direct download but I have uninstalled the program and gone back to version 12 - BUYER BEWARE if you have been using Premier with the organizer it will not work seamlessly. Such a disappointment because a good and generally well functioning program has been butchered. .I've just looked to buy iCab as people have suggested but reviews suggest it doesn't work reliably since IOS5.
Frankly I feel cheated and I've been a historic fan since having an Apple IIci 20 years ago. A major plus point in iPad usability has gone. Funilly enough I was about to recommend 25 iPads as Safari was so useable and the users I had in mind having seen my iPad were keen. But I couldn't hand on heart recommend iPads now and after seeing how Apple drops key functionality and usability wouldn't trust this supplier. Guess I'm glad I didn't recommend them and then have this happen.
And if I want tabs I'd have gone with Andriod for half the price.
It wouldn't be so bad if I could reverse the upgrade.
Anyone know how to cheat the system? -
Upgrading from Jaguar to Tiger on non dvd FP iMac
From my research of these discussions it seems like it should be possible to use the DVD drive in my wifes 15" powerbook G4 to upgrade my FP700G4iMac to OS 10.4 using something called firewire disk mode and a retail DVD of Tiger? (Seems that Apple no longer exchanges the DVD for CD's?) Can some one point me to a write-up on how to do this or otherwise explain it so I don't screw it up. It's also a mystery to me which upgrade method to use: Simple update vs. archive and install vs. erase and install vs. ??
Thanks,
RickHello.
Connect the two machines with a 6pin-to-6pin Firewire cable (example).
iBook: Insert the Tiger disc
iBook: Go to Apple menu > System Preferences... > Startup Disk > 'Target Disk Mode'. The iBook will restart in Target Mode.
iMac: Power on and hold the Alt ⌥ (Option) key down.
iMac: Select the Tiger Install disc to boot from.
iMac: Run the Installer for an Upgrade.
iMac: When you are at the OS X desktop eject the Install disc.
Disconnect the firewire cable.
iBook: Power down using the power button.
I'd advise backing up all your data before undertaking this.

I have an iPad 3 with the most up to date iOS, and am looking to be able to print directly to a mobile printer. I will be working in a remote area and will not have my computer with me, just the ipad. The printer is an officejet 150 mobile all-in-one with built in blue tooth. I can get it to work great from my laptop, but I need it to work from the ipad, any way of doing this? If so what print app will work? Or can you only print via wireless on select printers.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks. You must have WiFi and an AirPrint enabled printer http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4356 check to see if yours is AirPrint enabled or the manufacturer has an update to make it so.

Upgrading from old Mac to new- how to sync iPhone with new Mac?
Hi all,
My dad is upgrading from an old iBook to a nice new iMac. He has spent quite a few days tweaking his new iMac and importing old files and folders. The one thing we haven't yet done, though, is iTunes. He has an iBook G3 that he syncs his iPhone with, and he wants to be able to "move" his whole iTunes setup to the new iMac so that it picks up right where the iBook left off, without needing to reset the iPhone.
One thing to keep in mind is that the iBook had a tiny hard drive and thus the music files are actually on an external hard drive. I was wondering how to go about this feat. I read that using Migration Assistant deletes everything off the new Mac, so that's not an option at this point. Thanks for the help!If you had use Migration Assistant to start with it would have been easier.

Does the Technical Communication Suite have an installation application similar to the Creative Cloud Suite? If so, how do I get it? If not, how do I upgrade from version 4?
Thank you.Not sure what CCS has that you’re referring to, but TCS5 is out and can be installed via subscription or downloaded installer.

Upgrading from 10.2 to 11.1/11.2 plus OS upgrade
Hi Experts!
I need a little advice from you guys. I am planning to upgrade from Oracle RAC 10.2 to Oracle RAC 11.1/11.2.
I am not able to decide which one will be good idea that is upgrading to 11.1 or 11.2.
And on the top of it we are going to have OS upgrade from SuSe 9 to Suse 10 64 bits.
I did not find a good document on how to move from Oracle RAC 10.2 to Oracle RAC 11.1/11.2.
How can I achieve the high availability during the OS upgrade?
Do I need to take any action after the OS upgrade to relink the Oracle binaries?
Below are my environment details:
OS: Suse 9 64bit
DB: 10.2.0.4
ASM: NO
planning to upgrade on same server:
OS upgrade to: Suse 10
DB: 11.1.0.7 or 11.2.0.2
ASM: NO
Let me know if I need to post more details.
Thanks in advance.
MAWThanks for your reply Xaheer!
I would like to have my DB up and running on some other machine while the OS Upgrade is being performed.
I am planning for Logical standby (read only), switchover (read write) and redirect user connections to this DB.
Once the OS Upgrade is completed, I will perform a switch over and bring my DBs down for Upgrade.
My goal is to have minimum down time for the PROD.
Do you know any MOS note on how upgrade from 2 node RAC 10.2.0.4 to 2 node RAC 11.1.0.7 or 11.2.0.2.
I am not clear with 11gR2 Upgrade Companion.
Thanks again for taking out time in answering my questions.
