Using the text search tool

I usually supply my clients a link to a selection of photos to chose from. When they are happy, the email me a list of photos. _MG_1234, 1345,1456 etc etc.
So I make a coffee and click the Text Tool and if I accidently forget to select Filename Contains from Contains all when I start entering the list of numbers....
umbrella of pain just sits and spins.
It usually spins for 15 to 20 seconds per 4 digit filename I enter.
I now just make a long list in textmate 1234, 1345, 1456 and paste them in hit enter and go for a coffee.
This seach is not just depressingly slow its an utterly appalling search.
Yes I get the right images, but at searching is so so slow.
I've only got 74,000 file on a server, obviously the database on my mac's hard drive.
The catalogue is optimised every 2 weeks or so. I'm not running photoshop, Indesign nor any processor intensive software, infact usually 25% of 2 cores is max what I use lightroom so the poor old thing has a chance.

Any thoughts on how to speed this up apart from buying a G5 with a rocket.
I wondered whether this was a feature request asking for speed, but this would join a queue for a damn better dam.
This is really not acceptable. I love lightroom and it saves me 100's or hours a week, unless I search for a list of photos, then it just crawls like a mouse swimming through cold treacle.
This is also not just a rant, though it has every right to be. Any suggestion would be appreciated.

If you navigate to www.google.com on the BlackBerry Passport, scroll down and choose the option that states to "View Google in:" and choose the Classic mode.
Once you select that, Google changes from the mobile view to the Desktop view. Do you see your options available there?

How to unpartition D and its recovery partition and add to C using Windows 8.1 tools

I have a new Fujitsu Lifebook, Windows 8.1 with a 600gb disk and when I go into Disk management I see the following partitions in this order.
Healthy (Recovery Partition) 768 mb 100% free
Healthy (OEM Partition) 768 mb 100% free
Healthy (EFI Partition) 260 mb 100% fre
C: Healthy (Boot, Page File, Crash dump, primary Partition) 340 GB 88% free
Healthy (Recovery Partition) 350 mb 100% free
D: Healthy (Primary Partition) 340 GB 100% free
Disk Management does not let me free up the second recovery partition (between C: and D:) so I am not able expand C: after I free up D: because they are not contiguous. How, using Windows 8.1 tools can I safely expand C: so that it'll be 680 GB (taking
the space from D:)?

Apache Lucene in Struts application

I am developing an web based application(developed in Struts) which allows users to upload lot of documents. We need to provide a search engine for the application. MS SQL Server 2005 is the database.
All the document related data (like document type, document location etc) are stored in the database. The actual document is stored in UNIX file system.
I would like to know if I could use Apache Lucene for the search engine that we intend to develop. I have been searching for a sample implementation of lucene with rdbms.
Any information on how we can attain this will be appreciated. Any good references will also be helpful.

The problem am facing is that, I could not find any sample implementation of Lucene with rdbms.
In my case, when a user uploads a document (say, talkit.doc), we first add an entry into database identifying the file name and its actual server path. The file is then saved into a unix server directory path. When a user searches for a document (say, "talkit" is the String user enters). I will need to search in the database to check if there is any data like "talkit" and then I also need to search into the documents in the folder for the string.
Am not sure, how I can implement Lucene in this case. Any help ?

Adobe Reader 9 - Search tool problems

Hey guys,
I have recently downladed a whole load of pdf. documents which I need to analyse. They are a set of old news papers which have obviously been scanned in, and I need to search for specific information within them.
The only thing is, whenever I use the Adobe search tool, the search engine always comes up with "no matches found"! This includes searching for real basic things like the headline of the newspaper or even the title itself!
I really need to be able to search this documents as I have about 500 of them and going through them page by page would be like being at the dentist with no anathestic!!!
Any thoughts you guys have on this really would be greatly appreciated.

In order for them to be searchable, you would need to run OCR on them and you can't do that with Reader.
There are numerous tools to do OCR. Try Google.

How do I use the cookie cutter tool?

I have a lot of questions to ask on how to use this program. I have Adobe Photoshop Elements 8, and I can't seem to get the tools to work. I click things on and nothing happens or I get a buzz indicating that whatever it is I want to do, I can't. I went to the cookie cutter tool and clicked that on. I figured out how to pick a shape, but then what? No matter what I clicked, nothing happened. How do I get it to work? I have a book called 'Teach Yourself Visually Adobe Photoshop Elements 8' and the pages are very clear, but whatever options are given in the book, I can't find in my program. I am sure part of the problem is that i have this program on a Mac. Maybe the Mac version doesn't work like the PC version. I can't seem to find any directions for this. I clicked on help and it brought me to a web page for Mac Photoshop Elements 8, and I did a search for 'cookie cutter' and nothing came up. I also looked at all the options available for help and didn't see any 'cookie cutter' tool instructions. How can I learn how to use this software? Thanks for any help.

I don't remember what the directions were yesterday, when I was experimenting with Photoshop, but I believe that the directions told me to use the custom shape tool, but I couldn't find it. It said to click on the rectangle, and a menu would come up, but no menu came up. So I thought I would just experiment and click on 'cookie cutter' and see what would happen when I clicked on it. I tried using some keyboard shortcuts to see what would happen (just trying to figure out how to get something to work) and at the web site for Photoshop for Mac, it said to click 'Q' (I can remember what was supposed to happen), but I clicked 'Command' and 'Q' at the same time and it closed the program! The web site didn't say which other key to use with the Q, and nothing happened when I just clicked the Q. Another thing I was trying to do was to make something in Photoshop (this was on another web site) and I had to go to 'window' then the next step was to go to 'channel' and click it on. I went to window and there was no 'channel' in the drop down menu. There were other options, but no 'channel'.

You can't add a new contact to specific group and there is no app for this. 3rd party apps don't have access to private iPhone APIs with security concerns being a primary reason, which such a function would require.

Make the Forum Search Tool useful

The current Forum Search Tool is nearly useless. Please add the following features to make it a functional tool:
1. Logical operators - i.e. allow the following searches: cow AND chicken, cow OR chicken, cow NOT chicken (or -chicken)
2. Quoted text to search for exact phrases - i.e. allow the following search: "my chicken says moo"
3. Results with date ranges - i.e. allow the following search: weird chicken, Results before 04/01/2012 or after 04/01/10 or between 04/01/2010 and 04/01/2012
4. Mix it up! "My chicken says moo" AND "purple chicken feed" -cow, results after 12/23/2012
5. Search in one forum only - i.e. allow the following search: "chicken says moo" ONLY in the "Farm Animal Behavior" forum
6. Search ONLY in posts (answers and/or questions) made by a particular user - i.e. allow the following search - "purple chicken feed" posted by user "Farmer Brown" ONLY
7. Do NOT include variations of words that you "think" might be "helpful". Right now a search for the word "running" yields results that contain the following words: running, run, runs. Weeding through all the useless
"helpful" results is a huge waste of time and makes it difficult in the extreme to actually find "relevant" results. HINT: There might be an actual REASON why we want to search for "running" and
NOT "run" or "runs".
8. Please make the default operator AND instead of OR when more than one search word is used. Adding more terms to a search tool should produce FEWER, MORE REFINED RESULTS instead of MORE, IRRELEVANT RESULTS. Very few people ever want
to search on a single word only. This is especially true in a technical reference environment!
9. Sometimes I WANT a word spelled exactly as I typed it. If I get results that I do not want because I misspelled a word, I can just retype the search. If you FORCE me to use your spelling, this makes my search completely useless. Please
give us MORE options rather than less!
10. Remove search result highlighting. We don't need the words we just searched for being blasted at us in highlighted bold.

I can easily search .JSP files by NWDS's Search tool, but I have a hard time to search Java files by this tool. Can anyone guide me how to search Java files which contain a specified string by using Search tool in NWDS? or any other tool?

Hi Jin,
You can search Custom Java files with NWDS Search tool for specified string. But not standard Java files.
Suppose you have extend z_userR3 base on UserR3 and contains string some help then you can click on search in NWDS
Then click on File it will open Search box with 4 tag
1. File Search
2. Help Search
3. Java Search
4. Plug-in Search
Click on File Search tab and provide the text in Containing text input box and give java file name with wild characters like *.java
Select Workspace under Scope and hit search button. It will search string in your custom Java file. This method will not search string in Standard Java classes of SAP.
If you want to search in standard SAP java classes then you should know about what you are searching i.e. whether it is field, Method, Package, Constructor and Type select proper radio button under Search For box then tryo to select proper radio button under Limit To if you want to search everywhere then select All Occurrences. You should select Workspace under Scope.
Suppose nothing comes after selected Type then go for other option one by one Method, Field etc...
Expert people will give you more information.

Reply: Cor-el > Excellent!! Thank You. In Tools, Add Ons, Extensions there was a Default Tab enntry which was the culprit. Am running W7 so the XP Tools, Options, Advanced , Use Hardware acceleration when available, wasn't of much help here, however I did fix a problem on another computer running XP with that same fix. Create Search tool - how?

Hello,
I would like to develop a search tool, as in, I already have a jsp page which displays a table containing usernames, phone nos etc..
Now I would like to set up a search tool wherein if a user inputs a username, it should search from the table and diplay that particular username's entire record of data.
How can I go about this? Also, on the google, I was not able to come up with proper keywords.
Kindly guide me further.

How can I use ONE Text search iView to event/affect mutliple Result Sets?

hello everyone,
i have a special situation in which i have 6 flat tables in my repository which all have a common field called Location ID (which is a lookup flat to the Locations table).
i am trying to build a page with a free-form text search iView on Table #1 (search field = Location ID). when I execute the search, the result set for Table #1 is properly updated, but how do I also get Result Set iViews for Tables #2-6 to also react to the event from Text Search for Table #1 so that they are updated?
i don't want to have to build 6 different text search iViews (one for each table). i just want to use ONE text search iView for all the different result set tables. but, in the documentation and iView properties, the text search iView doesn't have any eventing.
if you have any suggestions, please help.

that should not be a problem, since you are detailw with result sets and detail iviews because custom eventing can be defined for those iviews.
Yes, it says "no records" found because an active search and record selection havent' been performed for it (only your main table does).
So, yes, define a custom event, and pass the appropriate parameters and you should be fine.
Creating a custom event between a Result Set iView and an Item Details iView is easy and works. I have done it.
See page 35 of the Portal Content Development Guide for a step-by-step example, which is what I used.
For my particular situation, the problem I'm having is that I want the Search Text iView's event (i.e., when the Submit button is pressed) to be published to multiple iViews, all with different tables. Those tables all share some common fields, which is what the Search iView has, so I'd like to pass the search critera to all of the iViews.
