  • Base Station Password

Hi, I just downloaded Mac OS X version 10.5.1. I am hoping that it is going to solve my problems with my Airport. I was excited to find that when I went into the Airport Utility that there was an update to the Firmware. But when I went up downoad it, it asked me for my Base Station password which I assume if the Key. But it doesn't accept my password. Is this indeed my Key to my network. If not, what is it? I know I am typing the correct password. I checked Keychains to make sure. I also verified that there wasn't a problem with my keychains. thanks Mark

    manofwow,
I hope you've found the answer to your question. In case others are searching and find your post, I am replying to it. The base station password is distinct from the network password. I forgot my base station password, and couldn't do the firmware update until researching how to reset it. See

  • Airport Utility Base station password

    Hello
I have the Airport Extreme router and I have also installed the Airport Utility programme on my win7 machines for convenience.
The win7 wireless machines including the Apple macbook always prompts for a password ( As I set-up Airport Utility to work this way ) but whenever I open the Airport utility which I have installed on the wired Ethernet desktop win7 machines, the Airport Utility never prompts for a password.
My question is can I force the Airport Utility on the desktop machines to prompt for a password ?
When I open the base station and select manual setup, then under base station I have un-ticked remember password in my keychain and then updated this, but whenever I reopen the Airport Utility the tick reappears and the Airport Utility opens without prompting for a password.
I must again stress that the wireless machines always prompt for the password.
    Thanks

Your desktop machine has already stored the Base Station password, so unchecking the box that tells the PC not to remember the password that it has already stored is not going to work.
I don't know where Windows keeps stored passwords, but if you do, you will need to access that file and delete the Base Station password there.
If you don't know how to locate the stored password file on the PC to erase the password, then the simplest thing to do might be to set up a new Base Station password, and make sure that the box next to "Remember password, etc" is not checked when you click to Update the new settings in AirPort Utility.

  • Disk File Sharing Switching from with base station password to with account

Ok, here's the situation. I have an external hard drive, with multiple partitions, connected to an AirPort Extreme (802.11n) and it is currently protected using the "With Base Station Password" option. I would like to switch that to the "With Account" option but when I do the files that are located on the disk no longer appear when a user connects. It will also work fine if I use the "With a disk password" option. So I am not sure why the files are disappearing for the users when they connect. Is there something that I am missing and is it possible to make the change.

    I have the same issue.
Plus, in my case, two disks appear on my desktop, even though I have no partition. One is named the same as my disk, the other is named the same as the user account for the disk on the Airport Extreme.

  • Time Capsule don't work when change base station password

    Hello.
I bought a Time Capsule in 8th April 2010. In August 2010 it begun report problems  (the message "Finishing backup..." always appeared and backup never ended, beyond Finder crashed all time with the pop up message error - 10810).
In January of this year, the device just didn't worked. Actually, when it turned on just the Airport function worked. In 29th of that month I receive a brand new TC after I went to technical support.
But, in 17th April 2011, it just didn't worked. At all. And, for my bad, at this time, the garantee was expired.
What I did? Well, I restarted it with default configuration (many times) until can access the hard drive. Even erase the disk (after restore some backups when I had the chance).
Well, after this, It works again. But the TC base station password now can't changed.
Actually it can be changed. But, if I do this, the TimeMachine don't get make HD TC's avaliable. And I just don't know why.
I say this because after I restored, manually, the base station password to this default settings (password "public", without quote), it returned works normally.
But I want change this password, because all my backups will be visible for that one's that have a Mac and access my TimeCapsule device.
I think this product is the greatest Fail of Apple. Many people reclaims about it, mainly for its short life and overheating.
Anyway, if there is any people that could help me, I'll appreciate!
I'm brazilian and I'm not so good in English. So I could make some grammar mistakes. Sorry about that.
By the way, if its possible, that one's that answer my question, please, don't use many slang.
    Thanks

The screenshots are here https://twitpic.com/4yeock and https://twitpic.com/4ytaks. Sorry for delay!
By the way, after I change the password for grab these screens I can not access my TimeCapsule HD again.
I'm trying (and trying, and trying, again and again) access it after restore to the default settings, but I haven't any sucess.
Ah. Now a message, like this "You are with the device default change. Are you sure keeping this?", appears when I try modify just the network password (keeping the original password device, that is "public").

  • Airport Base Station password

I've had my Airport Base station for years.  Now I'm trying to add a wireless printer, and I don't remember the original WEP password assigned to my base station.  Is there a way to find it, or can it be reset somehow?
    Thanks
    Bill

From Airport Utility Help using the search criteria "Reset Password"
If you forget your base station, Time Capsule, or network password
If you forget the password for your base station, Time Capsule, or network, you can reset the device and select a new password.
While the device is plugged in, use the tip of a pen to press and hold down the reset button for a few seconds. The device and network passwords are temporarily reset to “public.”
Open AirPort Utility, located in the Utilities folder in the Applications folder on a computer using Mac OS X, and in Start > All Programs > AirPort on a Windows computer.
Select the device you’ve reset, and then click Manual Setup. Enter the password if necessary. The default password is “public.”
Click AirPort in the toolbar, and then click Base Station.
Give the device a new password, and then click Update.
If you do not make your changes within five minutes after resetting, you must reset the device again.

  • Airport Base Station - Password Not Known

I bought an used airport extreme base station in the internet. The station works, I can go to the internet but I can't make any changes by the airport administration programm. It always asks me for a password which I don't have. What can I do?

I don't have an "Airport Extreme" to say first hand, but perhaps you could try resetting it…

  • How many base stations can form a WDS

hi, I am considering covering a very large area with very few users, so I would like to just have a central Extreme Base Station connected to the internet and maybe a dozen or so Expresses peripherally located as relays and remotes. I have been looking but can't find a statement from anyone on the scalability limits of these networks.
How many can be connected at one time?

You can set up a maximum of five nodes on a WDS - one main base station, and up to four relay or remote base stations.
If you need to cover a large area with multiple base stations, a WDS is not a good solution as pointed out above by Modem Geek. You should set up a cabled ethernet network connected to a cabled router as a backbone, then connect multiple base stations (each configured to function as a wireless network access point) to that ethernet backbone.

  • I forget my airport network or base station password

  • How Airports base station update Dynamic Global Hostname?

    Hello!
For several days, I try to run my own DNS server with bind9.
My Airport Express has a dynamic IP and I would like to be able to use dynamic DNS.
When you configure the DNS server on my bind9 (linux machine), Airport update the entries, but when I want to protect the DNS using keys (dnssec or rndc) my Airport can not update the entry (update denied). The DNS server is configured correctly, because I can update it via nsupdate from another linux machine.
    My Airport firmware is 7.6.4
Please help in solving this problem.

  • How do I find a hard drive connected to Airport Extreme Base Station?

*Apple Says:* "If your base station supports it, you can connect a USB hard disk to the USB port on your base station and computers on your network (both wired and wireless) can connect to it to access, share, and store files and data."
Cool. So I followed the instructions. The drive is recognized by the base station and listed in the Airport Utility. It looks like it's ready to go...
So... How do I access the drive? I don't see it on my desktop, it's not under network. I've tried "Connect to server..." and browsing, I can't see the drive, anywhere. Yeah, I've searched the crap out of this issue on google and this message board as well as apple support knowledge base. I'm sure this is a simple issue and I'm just missing the obvious. Help me out.

Hello Timothy Uhl. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Try the following to mount the disk...
o Click on the Desktop to enter Finder
o Go > Connect to Server...
o Enter 10.0.1.1 for the server
    o Enter Disk Password
    o Connect
If this still doesn't solve the problem, let's double-check your disk sharing settings...
AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) - File Sharing Setup
Either connect to the AEBSn's wireless network or temporarily connect your computer directly (using an Ethernet cable) to one of the LAN ports of the AEBSn, and then, using the AirPort Utility in Manual Mode, check these settings:
    Disks - File Sharing
o Secure Shared Disks: <With disk password | With base station password | With accounts >
(Note: Choose "With a disk password," or "With base station password" if you want to secure the shared disk with a password, or choose "With accounts" if you want to secure the disk using accounts.
If you choose to use accounts, click Configure Accounts, click the Add "+" button, and then enter a name and password for each user that will access the disk.)
    o Guest Access: <Not allowed | Read only | Read and write>
o Share disks over Ethernet WAN port: (unchecked)
(Note: Select the "Share disks over Ethernet WAN port" checkbox if you want to provide remote access to the disk over the WAN port.)
o Advertise disks globally using Bonjour: (unchecked)
    o Workgroup: <Windows workgroup name>
    o WINS server: <WINS server IP address>

  • Simple How-To # 1: Adding additional base stations

    That's all I need. A series of simple, step-by-step 'how-to's'.
I've been using Macs for almost 20 years, but find the instruction manual and software for the new Airport Utility [AEBSn device] to be particularly unhelpful.
I need to add an AX to extend the range of my network [and be able to use my brand-new printer]. The software seems to be instructing me to, "change base stations"? Why? The older Airport Admin Utility [supplied with AX's] did not use such counter-intuitive instructions and was much simpler to set up multiple base stations. What gives Apple?
Give it to me simple Apple, my brain cells aren't getting any brighter! Is there anyone out there that can post simple step-by-step instructions? I'm sure I won't be the only one appreciating that kind gesture.
    Anyone?

    AEBSn - WDS Setup
(Note: To facilitate the WDS set up, place the base stations within near proximity of each other during the set up phase, and then relocate them to their desired locations when complete.)
    Main Base Station Setup (AEBSn)
    - Click the AirPort status menu in the menu bar and choose the wireless network created by the base station you want to set up as the main base station.
    - Open AirPort Utility (located in the Utilities folder in the Applications folder on a Macintosh computer, or in Start > All Programs > AirPort on a computer using Windows).
    - Select the main base station, and choose Manual Setup from the Base
Station menu, or double-click the base station to open the configuration in a separate window.
    - Enter the base station password if necessary. If the base station is using the
default password of public, you will not be prompted for a password.
    - Click Wireless in the toolbar, and then choose “Participate in a WDS network” from the Wireless Mode pop-up menu.
    - Click WDS and then choose “WDS main” from the WDS Mode pop-up menu.
    - Select the “Allow wireless clients” checkbox if you want client computer to connect to this base station.
    - Click the Add button and enter the MAC address of the base stations you want to connect to this base station.
    - Click Update to send the new settings to the base stations in the WDS.
    Remote Base Station Setup (AX)
    - Click the AirPort status menu in the menu bar and choose the wireless network created by the base station you want to set up as a remote base station.
    - Open AirPort Utility (in the Utilities folder in the Applications folder on a Macintosh computer, or in Start > All Programs > AirPort on a computer using Windows).
    - Select the remote base station, and choose Manual Setup from the Base Station menu.
    - Enter the base station password, if necessary. If the base station is using the default password of public, you will not be prompted for a password.
    - Enter the same network password as the main base station, if necessary.
    - Click AirPort in the toolbar and click Wireless. Choose “Participate in a WDS network” from the Wireless Mode pop-up menu, and choose the same channel as the main base station from the Channel pop-up menu.
    - Click WDS and choose “WDS remote” from the pop-up menu.
    - Enter the MAC address of the main base station in the WDS Main field. The MAC address is also referred to as the AirPort ID and is printed on the label on the bottom of the base station.
    - Click Update to transfer the settings to the base station.
