How was this done - movable shape that changes percentage

I saw a presentation that had a pointer that the user could smoothly drag along a horizontal line, and when moving the pointer, the percentage underneath the pointer automatically changed. The pointer can be moved horizontally along the line, but cannot be moved vertically.
How was this done --- Is this something that can be accomplished in Captivate, or was it done in another program and inserted into Captivate? See two examples below.

AFAIK this can be done in Captivate, if you include some widgets (thinking about the Slider component widget of InfoSemantics). But widgets are not compatible with HTML5 output.
For HTML5, Edge Animate could produce that kind of interactivity as well, and you can embed an OAM package in Captivate, using the App packager in CP7, and right away in CP8.

Hi Alex,
this tool is usually called the Blur or soft-focus effect (translated from my German PS). Many programs offer this brush for applying to the effect. Often you can select the photo, create a soft edge selection and then make the selection using filter blurred or you yourself blur some of the image areas.
And we have the tool "Unsharp Mask". For this purpose, only the original image and a blurred version are required. The layer structure, however, shows good results only if your program supports 32-bit color depth, like Photoshop.

There is a "flash" that goes down the sholder of a man in this Flash intro page. It is a series of jpg images. Do you know how this can be done or which program was used? I want to chage the page of it.

Hi Steve,
I'm pretty sure it's done with a mask. You have the man picture layer and the border layout masked by a symbol (maybe a square or rectangle) above it.
If you want to know how to use mask in Flash, just ask Google. There is a bunch of tutorial on the web.

Why is this drop shadow being cropped? IDCS4ME WinXPSP3

Hi,
I cannot figure out why this drop shadow is getting cropped.
Attached is a CS4 file with an embedded graphic. A drop shadow is applied. When this file is exported to PDF ("press quality"), the drop shadow is getting cropped, as you will see on the PDF attached. Why oh why?

Thank you all. It is weird. I'm still not sure if it's a corrupt Photoshop file or an InDesign bug, or a user error?
Anyway, adding spread did help, but at the cost of slightly changing the quality of the shadow. I couldn't get a vector mask to help (I just added a "show all" mask). But cropping the top-right corner as Peter Spier suggested works and is the least invasive treatment.
I've got 3 more similar characters on the original page, all created by the same person with the same workflow, and none of them display this problem.

These type of transitions are the easiest. Let me explain how
it works.
From frame 1 to 10 you have some motion tween - fading in.
Than from frame 10 to 20 fading out, or motion out, like in
your example motion out.
On that 10th frame there is an action that picks a variable
and go to frame in a
movie clip accordingly. All the button does is sets variable
and play
the timeline, than timeline frame 10th action call the
content and while
the fading is done, the content has been changed.
Button :
on (release) {
_root.pa = 2;
_root.play();
than frame 10
MovieClipWithContent.gotoAndPlay ("p" + _root.pa);
Inside MovieCLipWithContent make labels p1 p2 p3 p4 p5 p6 p7
and so on....

How Was This Icon Created?

Hi,
I'm fairly new to Photoshop and would like to find out how an icon was created on a website I've found. It's the small 'heart and bandage' at the top of the page. If anyone can help I'd be very, very grateful. This website is something to do with Surviving Infidelity

Make the heart with the Custom Shape tool.
Add a Gradient Overlay (radial).
Make two little rectangles and align them at right angles with the transform tool.
I gave them a drop shadow to make them stand out better.

How to create drop shadow preset?

I have now spent an entire day searching and trying to create a preset for fcpx. On most of the effects I use, i have the option to save as a preset. BUT with the drop shadow effect, I doesn't.
On the instructions in the help section for editing a FCPX effect, it claims you need to either right click or control click the effect in the media browser, and then select "open a copy in motion". This works on any effect BUT Drop shadow! lol.
So I then with my limited knowledge of Motion 5, tried to create a FCPX effect on my own. I created a new FCPX Effect, Then in the HUD I applied the drop shadow with the settings I needed, and saved it. Then in FCPX I applied it to the track, but nothing happened. I am lost, and need help. I ahve to apply a drop shadow with 50% opacity, and 30% for blur to over 600 clips in over a month. I can't do it manually and then adjust the parameters manually for each one. PLEASE HELP!

The Drop Shadow is actually coded with FXPlug, it is not a straigth Motion template. Any effect or template that is coded can't be opened in Motion.
When you create your own, you need to publish the parameters you need access to.
I think what you need to look at is the Paste Attributes function. Select a clip in your Timeline that you've applied the Drop Shadow to and have tweaked it. Command-C to copy it. Select all the other clips at once, in the Edit menu select "Paste Attributes", then specify only the Drop Shadow effect. Poof, done.

How to get drop shadow text in windows version of LabVIEW 2009

In the lower left corner of the attached JPG you can see that "Instrument Cluster" has a drop shadow. I created it by accident and would like to use drop-shadow for control names, but I cannot figure out how I did it. The only "Style" options in my Text Properties drop-down menu are Plain, Bold, Italic, Underline, Outline and Strikeout.
The Help file implies that it can be done in MAC OS. I just did it in Windows.
Does anyone know how?

How to add DROP SHADOW

I posted earlier but figured I'd give it another shot due to the flood of other posts. Has anyone figured out how to add a drop shadow (preferably to video clip with an alpha channel, but other applications such as psd files, etc. would good to know for as well). I mean, if iWeb can have drop shadows, SURELY Final Cut Pro X does...right?

The solution is do do it in Motion. Only took me a minute to figure it out.
Basically, you create a "Final Cut Effect" in the project browser of Motion, and take a clip (any clip will work, it seems), scale it down to 50% or whatever, add the drop shadow (easy to find), and hit Save.
Motion will tell you it's "publishing" it, and ask you for a category. I created one with my name.
Go back to FCPX, my new category appears instantly in the Effects browser, and there's my shadow effect in that category. Drag your newly created effect to the clip you want to effect, and there you go.
The nice thing is, having your own saved effects makes it easy to be consistent when you want to apply that effect to several things.

Multiple drop shadows/duplicate effects.

I'm creating a UI template. Lots of buttons and lots of text on the buttons and I want the text to remain editable, but with multiple effects on the text, sometimes, a dupicate effect even.
The text is white on a blue background. I want a dropshadow, no blur, 1px up vertical, overlay. I want another drop shadow, no blur, 2 px up vertical, overlay. I want it to pop out a little bit to match my buttons.
The problem is when I use two of the same effect, it for some reason applies the second dropshadow the the first dropshadow, instead of to the original text. Does anyone know a workaround for what I'm trying to do?

The only thing I can be sure of is the key to manipulating multiple everything applied to an object is the Appearance panel. Select a piece of your text and check the Appearance panel. Everything applied to it will be there in stack order. You can rearrange the order and hierarchy. The keys to your effect application sequence and its results will be there.

Every time I save a file "save as" my folders, etc. come up scrambled. I want them to be alphabetical every time. How can this be set? or done?

Sure EVERY TiME you save you can click on details then name and then 3rd click to bring it up alphabetical ( which may be backwards Z-A) then save. And then the next time you save you can do again. I want it to always, forever come up alphabetical like everything does on my computer when i save things.
